RAGING VOJTEK!!!! |
Sorry for absenteeism - real life is kicking my arse.
Round the First
Vojtek eyes the stinky corpse suspiciously, so much so that when it begins to shamble the barbarian feels no distinct surprise. He expected the worst and was not disappointed. With a clinical detachment he watched, unsure of the correct procedure in a situation like this. He had been raised to respect the dead, but this malevolent abomination seemed like a prime candidate for a healthy walloping of disrespect.
When the undead struck Kappi, Vojtek suddenly realized the gravity of the danger involved. He watched Kappi's life force as it siphoned into the corpse's cold emptiness. The lad seemed... diminished... after. The vitality and verve were tarnished and dimmed.
Vojtek's fury at the insult to his mate's person surged to the surface and the man's violence seemed astonishing in contrast to the subdued and drained Kappi.
Power Attack with Greatsword: 1d20 + 11 - 1 ⇒ (7) + 11 - 1 = 17 for 2d6 + 11 + 3 ⇒ (4, 3) + 11 + 3 = 21 damage.
[ooc]Maybe a lucky hit?[ooc]
GM thunderspirit |
Real Life Comes First [tm], compadre. Always.
Vojtek's attack roll needs some revision, though, since you guys are 4th level. And the revised roll of 16 will miss.
GM thunderspirit |
Ali armors up with arcane magic, and moves forward!
Vojtek takes a mighty swing, but his decision to surrender accuracy for muscle does not pay off this time!
Round 1
baddie — Kappi's tasty life force, yum
Ali — cast, drop, move
Kappi — crit!
Davosh — is my eye evil, yes I am
Vojtek — mighty Vojtek strikes out
Edward — TBD
Edward is up!
Kappi Matarito |
posting for Edward
The Oridan knocks an arrow and draws at first sign of danger. He whispers a prayer to Apsu as he watches the terrible power of the wight attack Kappi. Then with both Kappi and Vojtek out of the way Edward loosens his arrow.
Long bow 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15
Arrow 1d8 ⇒ 4
GM thunderspirit |
Oops, I did not see that you'd posted for Edward...I was looking for a post from him and not you.
Edward shoots and misses!
Round 1 recap
baddie — Kappi's tasty life force, yum
Ali — cast, drop, move
Kappi — crit!
Davosh — missy fortune
Vojtek — mighty Vojtek strikes out
Edward — pew & miss
Kappi's ploy does indeed draw the thing out, and it lunges for the one who hurt it most...which is, well, Kappi.
attack roll 1: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
attack roll 2: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
slam plus cold: 1d4 + 1 + 1d6 ⇒ (4) + 1 + (1) = 6 plus one negative level if a hit
Davosh's misfortune hex is a lifesaver!

ROUND 2
Current conditions: Shield +4 AC; weapon imbued to +1; Elemental Touch (fire) round 1 of 4
Ali casts a quick spell, setting her hand alight. She touches the crosspiece of her sword, subsequently setting it alight. Then, she slams it in the monster's face.
concentration: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16 <--vs. DC 14 SUCCESS
Spell: Elemental Touch (fire)
Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8 <--wah-WOOOOH
Damage: 1d10 + 4 + 1d6 ⇒ (3) + 4 + (3) = 10
Davosh the Wanderer |
Davosh gives the cackle as only he can, extending the hex. He then looks at Ali and touches her with the Guidance of the ancients.
Kappi Matarito |
Round 2
The young rogue lets out a cry as he is struck a second time by the wight. His voice wavers and sounds weak, Its killing me
Now flanking with Vojtek, Kappi desperately strikes back. Fearing his doom the lad flails worthlessly with his blade.
Attack! 1d20 + 9 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (1) + 9 + 2 - 2 = 10
sh sword flanking 1d6 + 6 + 2d6 ⇒ (4) + 6 + (1, 6) = 17
Davosh the Wanderer |
Vojtek froths at the mouth as he brings his blade down in a wide arc, hoping for maximum damage, but caring little for precise aim 1d20 + 11 - 2 ⇒ (11) + 11 - 2 = 20 DMG: 2d6 + 12 ⇒ (2, 1) + 12 = 15
Kappi Matarito |
Vojtek froths at the mouth as he brings his blade down in a wide arc, hoping for maximum damage, but caring little for precise aim d20+11-2 [dice=DMG]2d6+12
probably doesnt matter but did you add the +2 for flanking with Kappi?
GM thunderspirit |
Furthermore, due to Davosh's misfortune (and none of your own), the frost wight did not his Kappi last round...unless an 8 hits his AC, in which case we probably need to talk about proper PC building. :-D
Ali misses!
Davosh cackles!
Kappi whiffs!
Vojtek ends the threat!
Out of combat!
Davosh the Wanderer |
Davosh quickly goes over to Kappi and grabs his face to check his teeth like a farmer checking a horse's age. "Are you okay boy? Edward check the lad!"
Davosh continues to man-handle the rogue until Edward takes over. After that he pokes at the undead thing for a while, looking for anything interesting.
Davosh the Wanderer |
I know we're waiting for triage on Kappi, but to keep things moving, let's take the time to search this room. Taking 20.
GM thunderspirit |
Oh, those negative levels never stick around... ;-)
Kappi will get a saving throw tomorrow to shake it off.
Thoroughly searching the rest of the temple, you find an ancient stairway behind a locked door that leads to a small crypt below, likely the lair of the frost wight. Under a loose stone you find a small stone coffer in the cavity beneath, which contains a scroll of hold person, a scroll of resist energy (cold), a bladed belt, a ring of feather falling, and two sizable fire opals, along with 220 gp and 37 pp.
Davosh the Wanderer |
Davosh looks over the treasure; touching it, smelling it, and even licking it occasionally. "The scrolls are useless to me, though I could probably finagle them. Best to give them elsewhere. I suggest Kappi take the ring, as he's the one most likely to fall into a pit full of rusty spikes and poisonous snakes who will bite him so full of venom that he'll make a green puddle after his tetanus-wracked body slides down the spikes.... The money might do us well in the city. I have things I want to buy."
Appraise the opals, 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
GM thunderspirit |
Oh, yeah, sorry...that was a cut-and-paste.
Kappi, a bit spooked by Davosh's matter-of-fact description of his demise via trap, nevertheless guesses each fire opal to be about 250 gp each.
GM thunderspirit |
Arcane or divine on the scrolls?
Under the circumstances — they're only on Edwards' Oracle spell list, AFAICT — we'll say they're divine.
Davosh the Wanderer |
I'll be stoked to get into the city, though I'm not sure Kappi and Vojtek will be able to handle the citizenry here...
Kappi Matarito |
Though a little greener than usual at Davosh's colorful description of poison. He is non the less interested in the featherfall ring. He even tries climbing up the wall and jumping off to see if the ring's enchantment takes effect.
GM thunderspirit |
Kappi floats down like, well, a feather.
The second floor is only over the other side. You've seen everything in the temple.
Davosh the Wanderer |
"I think we need to head into the city..." Davosh lets the words hang. He begins walking. He doesn't stop talking however, but the conversation is one-sided.
Kappi Matarito |
Kappi floats down like, well, a feather.
The second floor is only over the other side. You've seen everything in the temple.
The Varsian lad's spirits are lifted greatly by his new magic ring. Vojtek seeing his young friend's glee at floating down safely gets an idea in his head. Moving abruptly he picks up the skinny lad and spinning once hurls him up in the air like a sheep toss.
A quiet exclamation of joy as he sails into the air then again floats to the ground. Seeing his friend's joy the barabarian feels he did his good deed for the day.
He hurries after Ojos Locos.
Ali'yanah D'ohr'hein |
Ali lets go with a peal of delighted laughter at the childish antics. Satisfied with purging this place, she follows Davosh's the Slightly Tweaked to the city
GM thunderspirit |
Update should be coming later today.
GM thunderspirit |
As you traverse the road, it gently rises toward the high cliffs you periodically can see in the distance.
Rounding a bend, Kappi gasps and hustles everyone off the road and points up ahead — where a group of humans and a large, white wolf approach. They appear to be a patrol. Above, a quartet of prey birds can be seen circling about.
Davosh the Wanderer |
Davosh dives off to the side. "Kappi, how far?"
Is this the same day?
GM thunderspirit |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
They are about 150 years away. And we'll say it's the next morning.
</kind and benevolent GM mode>
GM thunderspirit |
He does!
Fort save that Kappi really, really wants to make, please.
Davosh the Wanderer |
Nice roll Kappi!
Stealth: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14
Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
What can we tell about this patrol?
GM thunderspirit |
Success! This morning, Kappi awoke and felt much better after his encounter with the frost wight. Back to normal, even; the negative level is shaken off.
No Stealth check needed just yet.
The patrol appears garbed in the same style as the ones who came to find Nadya in Waldsby. Periodically, you can see the birds descend to the group of humans, then take flight again. All seem to defer to the wolf.
GM thunderspirit |
Well, the white wolf is about 7-8 feet long, probably 4 and a half feet tall at the shoulder, and looks extremely solid. Ali might defer too.
Or she could make a Kn (arcana) check to figure out what it is.
Davosh the Wanderer |
I searched the thread to remind myself of how the last patrol went. I don't remember it going well, but I don't remember if it was combat. Alas my search-fu failed.
