Edward Round 3 actions
I'll help you Kappi, and Ali, they both look a little singed from the lightning
Edward switches his life link to Ali (Ladies first), and readies a bow shot if the wind wall comes down.
Longbow readied shot: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 7
Free action Drop life link with Vojtek, Move establish link with Ali. Standard Ready attack. Ali +5 hp, Edward -5 26/31hp
GM thunderspirit |
Edward moves his links of life about and waits...
Vojtek (or some reasonable proxy)!
Edward W.Fell |
Vojtek actions (I hope I'm reasonable)
The snarling Vojtek shoves his swrod into a crack in the ceiling, and then pushes off the bookcase with his corded thighs giving him the momentum for this powerful, but yet suprisingly graceful attack. Those same thighs spreading wider and wider in an impressive display of flexability. Thus allowing Ali to attest to the fact that the raging Vojtek does wear a loin cloth, but doesn't really care if the attempted functionality of the garment does it's job or not. It wasn't and now she has that mental image for the rest of her life.
Vojtek's junk...err body collided with the sylphs. His thighs wrapping around her and locking in place faster than you can say venus fly trap. It was then that the northman pulled with all his might and the sword came free from it's stone sheath. The northman allowed himself to fall backwards put himself parallel with the floor, so his sword would have enough room to cleave her in two, and possibly his lower legs if he didn't release his Vojtek fly trap grip from her.
The silly Sylph tried to punch Vojtek, and he snaps at her hand trying to get a taste of her flesh.
Vojtek's Greatsword: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30
Damage Greatsword: 2d6 + 11 ⇒ (4, 5) + 11 = 20
Bite: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
Bite Damage: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
I didn't roll a jump check since his base skill meets the requirement. I'm also not sure if this qualifies as a 5' step so I included the bite check as part a full attack action if allowed. Just to be clear, there isn't any grapple attack, this was just flavor to explain why he has to stay suspended since he doesn't have running attack (or whatever the feat is called here).
Crit Confirm: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17
Crit damage: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (17) + 11 = 28
Edward W.Fell |
nice colorful post.
That is some amazing crit damage
Ha it is amazing damage!! I just realized that I rolled a d20 for damage, but then again I do feel like I channeled my inner Odric in doing it :D
Crit Damage redux: 2d6 + 11 ⇒ (6, 3) + 11 = 20
GM thunderspirit |
Now THAT'S a crit! :-)
Vojtek leaps into the sylph's personal space, which she finds offensive, at least for a few seconds until the Northman's greatsword separates her right half from her left.
Out of combat!
At his glorious moment of furious triumph, Vojtek suddenly realizes the flaw in his masterful plan as he hurtles over the side of the aerie opening and falls to the ground some 60 feet below!
falling damage: 6d6 ⇒ (5, 3, 1, 6, 4, 2) = 21
As he painfully pulls himself from the snow and ice on the ground below, he notes that the sylph's backpack caught on his arm as he bisected her. Inside he finds a potion bottle with a raven symbol on the outside.
Davosh the Wanderer |
Identification of Raven potion: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (16) + 11 = 27
"Vojtek, you have stumbled upon an interesting notion.... hmmmm I think I'm going to try to learn to fly. That'll be very useful methinks." Davosh makes sure his Big Eye is nice and clean, and searches the rest of the Aerie.
GM thunderspirit |
Hard to Spellcraft something that's 60 feet away, Davosh. :-P
Davosh finds bird poop.
Lots of bird poop.
Additinally, among the mess that was once the party's adversary, Davosh takes 20 and locates a wooden carving of a leaf with a drop of water rolling off the end.
He also finds a silver necklace with a star-shaped diamond pendant (worth 500 gp), and a trinket similar to the ones you've used for the teleporter crystals. Her blood-stained belt pouch holds eight platinum pieces.
Edward W.Fell |
I feel as if I left my buddy down... let me see if I can mitigate some. DM can I make a reflex save / acrobatics to first stop the fall (like catch the window jam or lip) failing that how about an acrobatics save to lessen the damage?
Davosh may I take a look at that?
know Relig: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
I'm sure you already know, but that sure does look like a holy symbol to Gozreh one of the nature deities.
Edward then looks around and in his pack. He pulls out a grappling hook. Looks like I misplaced the rope that was attached to this. Anyone have some for our barbarian friend?
Damn looks like I forgot to buy rope lolz. I will figure out how much healing I need to do after we figure out Vojtek's final damage.
GM thunderspirit |
You didn't do anything wrong, Edward.
You created a very cinematic scene; I took that proverbial football and ran with it. A touch of comic relief at the end of a tough combat, if you will — I kinda pictured him as Wile E. Coyote running off the edge of a cliff. When I made the post, I checked to ensure V could take 10 and auto-make the Acro check to mitigate some of the falling damage (he could, which is why it was 5d6 and not 6d6), then double-checked the dice to be sure it wasn't enough to kill him. And I also inserted a relatively easy way back up (that's a GM hint, BTW). :-)
GM thunderspirit |
Vojtek uses the crstal to get back ;-)
Vojtek uses the teleporter to make all the molecules in his undergarments leap simultaneously one foot to the left. ;-)
GM thunderspirit |
Vojtek drinks the contents of the potion bottle, hoping it's a fine ale but disappointed somewhat to learn it's merely a potion of levitate. Still, he makes his way back up to the aerie to join his companions.
The fall cost Vojtek 19 pts; not entirely sure how much else the swarm and the sylph dealt him.
There are two doors in the tower, plus the teleport crystal (for which you think you've found a key). Kappi checks out the left door and opens it to reveal a bedroom furnished with a comfortable-looking bed heaped with thick blankets, a pair of bookshelves, and a trunk. A mobile of ice crystals carved to resemble birds hangs from the ceiling, glinting in the light from frost-covered windows.
The trunk is unlocked and contains numerous light, flowing garments and a pair of fur-lined cloaks. None appear especially valuable.
Edward W.Fell |
Ok so it looks like a total of 40 HP to be healed I will use life link and then heal myself with the wand
For those of you that are injured, lets rest a few minutes so I can get you healed up.
Edward takes each in turn, Ali, Kappi, and Vojtek and heals their wounds, then uses the wand on himself.
Wand CLW-self: 1d8 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 1 + 2 = 10
Wand CLW-self: 1d8 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 1 + 2 = 10
Wand CLW-self: 1d8 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 1 + 2 = 8
Wand CLW-self: 1d8 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 1 + 2 = 5
That is 35, I will keep the 5hp damage to myself. so 26/31 hp remain.

Kappi doesn't hear anything. He does perceive that the door appears untrapped; it is locked, however.
Ali'yanah D'ohr'hein |
Healing: since Ali is only lightly wounded, she'll wait to be last--and lo! Five HP is all she needed...whoda thunkit???
Do a quick Detect Magic of the bedroom, then cover Kappi as he takes care of the door.
Kappi Matarito |
The Varisian rogue unraps his tool roll. Taking a second look at the lock he considers which tools would work best. Perhaps the number 7 iron for this... . Kappi says as he chooses a pick and starts at it. The rogue hums a tune as he works.
Disable device/open lock 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (1) + 11 = 12
clearly not the number 7...
GM thunderspirit |
Kappi is likely unsurprised to see the #7 iron snap in inside the lock as he attempts to pick it.
Davosh the Wanderer |
Davosh looks with sadness at the lad. Lockpicking is such a useful skill, and the warlock hates to see his friend defeated. "If it's not jammed, try again with the blessing of the Ancestors. If it IS jammed, try again with the foot of the Vojtek."
GM thunderspirit |
It is, in fact, jammed.
Vojtek's foot makes it decidedly less so in short order.
Inside, dozens of stacked crates fill this angular storage room; the near wall has several sacks of Purina Raven Chow grain. Atop the highest shelves stand what appear to be several miniature dollhouses.
Kappi climbs up and discovers that they are exactly that. Inside are squirreled several valuables: a +1 silver dagger with a hilt carved to resemble a blue-eyed winter wolf; a jade bracelet in the shape of a scaled four-legged serpent creature with horns jutting from its head like a crown (DC 22 Kn (arcana) check will identify the creature depicted); a pair of fine porcelain dolls; a silver medallion decorated with sapphires; a gold signet ring (DC 25 Kn (history) check will identify the sigil); and three blue quartz crystals.
Total 1100 gpv, not including the dagger.
The dollhouses are the proper size to house the atomies found in the mess hall downstairs.

Arcana: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (20) + 11 = 31
History: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (17) + 12 = 29
INT: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
I'll share if successful. "Well done friends. Now the question remains, what is beyond the pale? I mean, mirror?
GM thunderspirit |
The jade bracelet is an imperial sovereign dragon. (There's no real bearing on this AP, but it does harken back to Jade Regent, which Neil Spicer wrote book 6 of. Nice Easter egg!)
The signet ring is old and tarnished, but Davosh can make out the signet of the Jadwiga Tashanna, dating back to the Witchwar some 500 years ago. (Another Easter egg, this time for part of the inspiration for this AP.)
And the Int check result ins in the spoiler in my previous post. Davosh recalls that atomies have the ability to speak with animals, so perhaps they lived here because they could speak with the sylph's ravens.
Edward W.Fell |
Edward is out standing guard with Vojtek while Kappi and the rest search the room. Lets get moving, there can't be that much left of this place. Check your armor, check your weapons, gather around for a quick blessing, and then lets go.
We use the crystal that we haven't used yet. I guess same order.
GM thunderspirit |
The group activates the crystal and steps through to find themselves back on the second floor of the Tower.
It seems that the crystals are connected to one another and go to each other.
GM thunderspirit |
Ali, Davosh: either of you guys wanna chime in here with a Spellcraft check?
Davosh the Wanderer |
Sorry, yes I do! Spellcraft: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (17) + 12 = 29 After giving it the Big Eye, Davosh looks about at his partymates, "It seems that the crystals are connected to one another and go to each other.
Ali'yanah D'ohr'hein |
Sorry, yes I do! Spellcraft=29 After giving it the Big Eye, Davosh looks about at his partymates, "It seems that the crystals are connected to one another and go to each other.
Ssssoooo...
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20
...does that mean we could pick where we go while using these crystals?
GM thunderspirit |
Think of them as regular doors: in each direction, they only go to one place.
Davosh the Wanderer |
"I agree lad. I worry though, if this room was of particular horror for our little friend.... hmmmm. Is anyone still wounded?"
Davosh eyes everyone briefly before weighing the souls of Vojtek and Kappi. "They work both ways, might we try porting in, then out immediately in order to reconnoiter?"
GM thunderspirit |
Anyone still wounded can retcon to make sure they're not if desired.
Have Kappi, Vojtek, and Ali leading the way into the room. Who has the key?
GM thunderspirit |
Noted. Swamped at work today so may not be able to update until this evening.
GM thunderspirit |
As Kappi steps up to the crystal and inserts the key, suddenly both ice statues that flank the red carpet animate and come to life, moving to attack the rogue!
These are animated objects. They have construct traits.
Because they are made of ice, they are immune to cold and vulnerable to fire.

Ali and Edward are up!
Davosh the Wanderer |
Knowledge: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (11) + 12 = 23
"Lads bring the fire! My spells won't work on them. It's sinew and steel that'll bring these down!"
Davosh, knowing full well that his spells this day will avail him not looks about the room for any type of furniture or objects that lend themselves to battle field control or advantage.
The warlock actually shuts his Big Eye to a gimlet state and uses the vision of mortal men to find an advantage.
GM thunderspirit |
Letting it slide this time, Davosh, but: I usually don't allow a Kn check until it's your turn, and especially not to share that Knowledge. But it's fine for now.
Davosh the Wanderer |
Oops! Sorry!
