Standard cold iron weapon cost, since I like to think your GM isn't a complete a$$#0!e. ;-)
Edward W.Fell |
"How much for this?" Vojtek holds up the heavy flail with interest.
cold iron is double the cost of the weapon so base is 15g so 30g for the flail, and 12g for the handaxe
Ali, if you need funds for a MW Cold Iron elven blade I will loan you what you need if your short on funds it would be 460g for one
Davosh the Wanderer |
Davosh looks about at the arms, and passes. "A wand of curative magic would suit me better."
GM thunderspirit |
You guys got the wand you commissioned from Old Mother Theodora after bringing Lady Argentea back. Is that all spent?
Also, an elven curve blade is a two-handed weapon.
Ali'yanah D'ohr'hein |

appriciated--but besides what DMTS said, I'll use arrows for fey. and, if no one else wants one of the 2 remaining weapon blanches, I'll grab the additional one. In fact, we should just get all three that we can.
GM thunderspirit |
Ready if you guys are.
Vojtek Wartooth |
no Vojtek not "4million xp and the decapitated head of The White at the end of his sword"
Shut it...
Ready.
GM thunderspirit |
Will allow a ret-con if a) Davosh wants to get something else in town and/or b) someone wants to commission something in cold iron from Iskar. I'll presume Ali got all three blanches and used one for arrows.
Assembled and steeled in their resolve, the five of you walk through the swirling cylinder that is the portal to find yourselves instantly transported thousands of miles north to the Hoarwood Forest in the land of Irrisen.
It is significantly colder here than it was in the Border Wood. In game mechanic terms, the subzero temperatures force Fortitude saves every 10 minutes rather than every hour spent unprotected from the elements. (I believe you all have cold-weather outfits and/or feats/traits to help with that, but I'm double-checking right now.)
You find yourselves on a forested hillside where you can see the faint and distant lights of a village several miles away. To make matters worse, Edward and Vojtek (who can both Take 10 on Survival to hit the DC) determine that a snowstorm appears to be headed this way. The distant village may indeed be the only shelter you can reach before blizzard-like conditions overtake them.
As in the Border Wood, snow covers the ground, reducing overland travel rates by half. During combat, entering a snow-covered square costs 2 squares of movement.
Stumbling through deep snowdrifts, you soon happen upon a band of local travelers, perhaps peasants from the nearby village. However, their wagons are off to the side of the trail as they have come under attack from a giant insect!
What would you like to do?
RAGING VOJTEK!!!! |
Vojtek flies into a rage and charges, quickly sending up a spray of snow as he plows forward into the fray!
I'll assume this is coming... By the way, if anyone's initiative changed as a result of the plus 2 ability score it is NOT reflected below.
Initiative!
Ali: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
Kappi: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
Vojtek: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
Davosh: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
Edward: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10

Dungeon Master S |
Kn: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14 BAH![/dice]
I'll cast Guidance on Ali before she does anything.
[ooc]No purchases for me, beyond wanting to start making scrolls.
Kappi Matarito |
Round 1
Kappi moves up next to Ali. Flanking with Vojtek, the rogue brings his short sword to bear on the giant bug.
1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 3 + 2 = 16
Short sword w/ sneak attack damage 1d6 + 2 + 1d6 ⇒ (3) + 2 + (6) = 11
GM thunderspirit |
Nope, no snowshoes. Heldren's not used to winter snow at those levels. May be able to find some here in Irrisen, though.
bug init: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
people init: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (14) - 1 = 13

Davosh casts guidance on Ali!
Vojtek rages and charges! Go ahead and roll, White Walke—, er, Stalker. ;-)
Kappi moves up and gets into a flanking position! His blade hits!
11
Waiting on Vojtek's charge attack!
Ali'yanah D'ohr'hein |
Seeing her friends charging forward to engage the bug, Ali calls out to the peasants WITHDRAW!! Get out of there, let us handle this thing!!
ROUND 1
ali shifts over a bit, drawing her bow and a normal arrow on the move. Her hand flashes blue-white as the Ancients' Guidance helps true her aim as she fires...
Attack: 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 3 + 1 = 17
Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8

I'll make edits to the initiative spoiler...
New and Improved Initiative:
Davosh = 19
Kappi = 18
Vojtek = 15
Ali = 11
Edward = 11
RAGING VOJTEK!!!! |
Round the First
Vojtek blasts through the snow and hacks his massive great sword down on the insect's carapace with a splintering skllurch. Ichor flies and the snow is stained a filthy green.
Power Attack with Greatsword: 1d20 + 8 - 1 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 8 - 1 + 2 = 24 for 2d6 + 11 + 2 ⇒ (1, 2) + 11 + 2 = 16 damage.
Note -2 AC for the round.
GM thunderspirit |
Vojtek's greatsword takes one of the mandibles off the insect, and it drops its meal/prize as it chitters in pain!
The commoners, almost as uncertain about these newcomers as they are about the insect, freeze in place and look about at each other. They appear unwilling to surrender their unconscious companion!
Ali's arrow and Edward's blade finish the beast!
Out of initiative!
As the great insect falls, two of the commoners rush to the fallen one's side, while another moves to inspect the wagons. The last looks on with a mixture of fear and wonderment at their odd saviors.
Kappi Matarito |
Kappi studies the commoners, 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10
Then realizing he us stareing he feels he should speak to break the silence. So, how are your travels in this strange winter weather? Then awkwardly adds, Other than giant deadly bugs...
Davosh the Wanderer |
As Kappi makes conversation, Davosh will perform triage, Heal: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
GM thunderspirit |
G$$~*$n postmonster ate my post. AGAIN. >.<
As the barbarian flops into the snow and Edward and Kappi cautiously approach to address them, one woman looks at her ragtag companions and steps forward.
Your arrival is velcome, she says carefully with a slight smile, her Common thickly accented from the northeast; and ve are grateful for your timely assistance. I am Nadya Petska, leader of this gathering. She slightly inclines her head as Davosh makes to help the fallen man. Ve are all in your debt, foreign friends. To whom do I speak?
Vojtek Wartooth |
Do they sound like they are from the North as in from Vojtek's region?
GM thunderspirit |
Do they sound like they are from the North as in from Vojtek's region?
Hmm...have we ever established where Vojtek was from?
I'll presume his tribe dwelt on the edge of the Lands of the Linnorm Kings near the Crown of the World. Which makes Vojtek more or less Ulfen and/or Erutaki.
Long story short: Vojtek would grok the dialect, though it's from considerably further East than his corner of the world.
Edward W.Fell |
My Lady I am Edward Fell, though all of us hail from parts all around Golarian, we are here on business from the town of Heldren. Before we get into to much conversation, is anyone injured or in need of healing? I offer my services to help anyone injured or sick.
assuming I'm able to help everyone in need
We are traveling to Whitethrone, we have business there. Might you know the way, or where we may get some supplies. Heldren was in the middle of summer.
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11 +1 if someone will give me the guidance of the ancestors or an assist or two.
GM thunderspirit |
I am not familiar vith Heldren, but I know of Whitethrone vell enough, Nadya says, careful to lean close and speak softly, almost in a whisper. I vill say you should be careful vat you vish for.
Straightening up, she continues in a louder voice. Ve are most grateful for your offer to help more than you already haf, and leads Edward to the fallen man alongside Davosh.
Davosh the Wanderer |
"I am called Davosh."[b] The warlock continues to help the man as he speaks, [b]"I am a voice for the Ancients. My friend Edward speaks true. I am happy to help how I can, but I would ask for your direction in return. Where were you and your band headed? Mayhaps we can talk and travel."
GM thunderspirit |
Edward and Davosh manage to get the fallen man back onto his feet as Nadya slowly answers Davosh's question. Ve vere...returning vith a shipment of food from the east. The Realm of the Mammoth Lords. She looks to the sky with a frown. Bad veather is approaching. Ve should seek shelter soon.
Davosh the Wanderer |
"We will join you in this shelter. Where to?"
Survival: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (3) + 0 = 3
Kappi Matarito |
Sharp ears perked at the mention of needing shelter from the impending weather, Kappi is on it.
Survival 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Perception 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25
Wait uhh, what should I be looking for...
GM thunderspirit |
Worst. Survivalists. Evar. ;-)
GM thunderspirit |
Nadya appears not to notice your flailing about and confidently leads you and her group to a small hollow with a small copse of evergreens to help protect the camp. Irrisen is quite unforgiving to the ill-prepared, she says as the snow and wind progressively get worse while she frenetically directs a whirlwind of activity about her. As the party lends a hand, Kappi and Edward marvel at her intricate knowledge of cold-weather survival, and even the normally sexist Vojtek has to admit her ability.
Less than an hour after camp is completed, the winds pick up to a near-constant howl and the driving snow forces everyone inside the sturdy structure that was no more than a pile of wood and canvas a short while before. A small fire burns near the entrance, its smoky product whisked outside as the wind whips by. Nadya settles in with a mug of brewed tea and a bowl of thin stew. Vat brings travelers to the wilds of Irrisen, I must ask?
Vojtek Wartooth |
Vojtek is not sexist!
Vojtek looks on with pride as the woman of the north shows her skill in establishing a camp for the men. He hopes the Ali makes note of Nadya's attention to her responsibilities for future campsites. The barbarian is melancholy for the loss of his village and the strong, hardy and useful women The White took.
What news of The White? Vojtek asks the northerners. If he is met with curious stares, he begins to tell his story.

LMFAO!
Vojtek's inquiry receives only blank stares from the peasants, but their eyes grow wide as his tale unfolds.
Nadya pays close attention as Vojtek describes his winged nemesis, though she tries to seem as though she has not noticed, and she says nothing.
