AWESOME!!!
With my new laptop I can actually move my guys around on the battle maps!! I guess our old computer was just too outdated and crappy. I've been doing 98% of my posting from my phone, I guess I'll have to do my action posts from the laptop as much as I can. (Adam and Chris have been kind enough to move my guys around for me for the past few years, thanks guys!)

Yay! Ain't technology spiffy? LOL

1250 xp for the ice troll.

Okay, I am in a bit of a quandary here.
My base rule in GMing things is usually: you can't go back in time. I said that to Davosh, in fact, in this very encounter.
Yes, I've retconned a thing or three in this — Vojtek frothing at the mouth at a fallen foe, for instance, or redoing a move action, or something important yet relatively unimportant in the scheme of things. (I know that's an oxymoron, but I hope you know what I mean.) JMSO, those are okay uses of a retcon — they advance the narrative and add color to the PCs.
At the same time, it feels (and please believe me when I say that I'm reasonably certain this isn't the case, but y'all need to see part of my perspective) like Ali doesn't want to be slammed by the elemental surprise and be stuck between it and the guards. And JMSO, that's not an okay use of a retcon.
Lastly, there's the factor that I apparently misunderstood Ali's post to be something it wasn't intended to be. I will certainly own that.
I've thought on this probably more than I should have today, LOL. :-)
So, first and foremost: anyone posting an out-of-order action is requested to put that action in a spoiler. Something to the effect of the following:
"The spiders care not of your allegiance, they care only for your flesh!"
Davosh concentrates on the spiders to cover the two guards like water on the shore.
Red and green guard each take 1d6 ⇒ 2 damage. They need to then make a fort save DC 11 or take 1d2 ⇒ 2 STR damage from their venom*. They also must make a DC 11 fort save or become nauseated.
(I'm implementing the same rule for readied actions, except including a tag to indicate what triggers the readied action.)
Second, I want to find a reasonable way to to accommodate everyone in this situation. So if anyone has ideas, please post 'em for discussion.

Also: Happy Thanksgiving!
Davosh the Wanderer |
Completely reasonable, and something I'll likely use in my own PbPs. And Happy Thanksgiving!

So retcons are still basically ruled by the DM as okay or not right? I will go along with whatever the DM says but I may be shaking a box of cereal on my head in protest of the ruling.
All out of order posting should be done in the form of a spoiler. Ok, sounds reasonable.
GM thunderspirit |
Ali, consider this permission to retcon your action.
Ali'yanah D'ohr'hein |
Vojtek Wartooth |
I initially support this. I reserve the right to RETCON later.

Random thought here: how about, instead of tagging things with the round sequence (since the way it usually works amounts to you guys-them guys-you guys-them guys and so on), we go with "Davosh's second round" or Ali's third round" or something like that? Then it should be a little easier to go back and see who still has to act.
Thoughts?

Completely unrelated — this thread is gold.

Felt like excrement most of this weekend (stepkids kindly shared their plague), so just now catching up on things. Waiting for Vojtek, looks like, before I can summarize the round.

Haven't forgotten about you guys.
Had two conventions this weekend — not an experience I recommend, TBH — and wound up pinch-hitting in a GM slot I should've had off (and thus been able to address this) due to another GM essentially bailing on a promise. Household needs and sleep deprivation caught up with me last night and work has me pretty much buried today. (You know, the whole "apart from the unfortunate shooting incident, how did you like the play, Mrs. Lincoln?" situation.)
I should be able to post something tonight. My apologies for leaving things hanging all weekend, guys.
You can sleep when your dead..... :D
No worries Holiday time is busy for most, hope it starts getting calmer for you
GM thunderspirit |
2500 xp for the guards/sgt & water elemental.
Vojtek Wartooth |
Merry Christmas all... hope the random loot tables were good to you.
GM thunderspirit |
Hail and well met.
Did we get XP for the first floor? :-)
Welcome, Mister Venture-Lieutenant. ;-)
Answer: yup.
Davosh the Wanderer |
Thank you sir! Just to confirm, what do others have for the total? (I can't get there from here right now)
Edward W.Fell |
Hey we should all have 5,040 xp.
Here is a link to the sheet
GM thunderspirit |
Thanks for bearing with me, guys. Procedure went pretty smoothly, so far all is well.

Heading out of town to a convention this afternoon; if y'all are ever in the Midwest during winter (and really, why would you be?), check out Winter War in Champaign-Urbana — it's one of the oldest conventions in the area, running its 42nd consecutive time this year.
I'll be on the thread on and off throughout today and might get a chance to look at it this weekend, but I'll be back online regularly Monday or Tuesday.
Davosh the Wanderer |
Have fun! My next convention is Boston's TotalCon, time to get going on that 4th star.
FYI Mike (Ali) just told me that paizo.com is now blocked for him at work. Any ideas for a work around? I use Wayfinder on my phone. It's a $1 app and makes phone posting much easier. It doesn't help with maps, but it's totally worth it.
GM thunderspirit |
Try the secure site: https://secure.paizo.com/paizo/messageboards. It works around some blockers.
If not, I'm amenable to moving to another site if that's a better choice. Ideas welcome.

FYI, Q9 on the map is a kitchen with a spriggan encounter that's boring, so I'm skipping it.
500 xp for the doppelganger, with a 250 xp story award for seeing through the Lady Argentea ruse.

Sweet I hate boring encounters.
DMTS does that include The Dining hall and Capt Henstrig?
Vojtek have you updated your Attack and Dmg numbers to denote the + 1 Great Sword? I assume that you took that treasure.
GM thunderspirit |
DMTS does that include The Dining hall and Capt Henstrig?
Upon reflection, it does not, thanks for the nudge. :-)
The dining hall was worth 1500 xp.
Kappi Matarito |
Sweet thanks...
And on another note... .I am soo happy we got to complete the adventure... Kappi and Vojtek are killin me here.
To funny
I like my Thorgrym character in our other pbp game, the serious, quiet Ranger. But in some ways Kappi is a lot more fun to play, especially w/ Vojtek as a comrade.
Davosh the Wanderer |
I'm going to be at Total Con this weekend, and somehow I got roped into to GMing every single slot. Ah, life of a VL....
Anyway, my posting my be spotty. I trust everyone here to post on my behalf.

Toughest thing for any VO is learning how (and when) to say no. (Still a work in progress for me, LOL)
Have fun!
