Yeah you guys are in our prayers.
By the way... I was in Chicago 2 weeks ago and managed to not get murdered. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised.
Ali'yanah D'ohr'hein |
well, DMTS, maybe there's a sliver lining. If her nose bleeds again and someone asks what happened, she can reply with my stock answer: "You should see the other guy!!"
GM thunderspirit |
That's impressive, Vojtek. Unless you were only near the airports, of course; they tend to keep the guns out of there. ;-)
LOL, Ali. I'll mention that to her. :-)
Vojtek Wartooth |
Nope we went all over. Saw a sign that said Chicago, went up a tall building and stood in a window box at 1300 feet up, paid way too much to visit Navy Pier, ate at white castle. Pretty comprehensive I'd say haha.
Vojtek Wartooth |
I will be incommunicado from 27 September to 11 October. I got an all expense paid trip to Ukraine. Good times. Anyone on here can autopilot Vojtek but for goodness sake someone make him bite someone!

And you were worried about being shot in Chicago? LOL
Best of luck on the trip. We'll be sure to offend Ali regularly for ya. ;-)

Good Luck S. May the Force be with you.
Thanks for the donation BTW GMT!

Hey, that's my paternal grandfather's home...you should look up "Susalka" during your plethora of free time.
I wish you peace and a boring time, my friend.
Kappi Matarito |
From September 20-27 Ill be down in the Carribean. I'll be shutting my phone off for a week, so unless I find a free computer to use I won't be posting.
Adam and Chris already know this, but anyone can feel free to post for Kappi.
GM thunderspirit |
I'm okay putting this on hold, too, if you guys want. Next up is delving into the tower, which will essentially wrap Book 1. I do not enjoy botting players myself as a GM -- feels like I'm just narrating a,story then.
Thoughts?

Vojtek's trip is cancelled, so let's push on!

Deadly Aim is like Power Attack, you'll have to announce that you're using it at the start of each round.

You could default to using it and "turn it off" when you don't want it (that's what my gunslinger does)...
GM thunderspirit |
Yeah sorry forgot to update this thread. Press on!
Good to know you won't be invaded (sorry, "peace-kept") by Russian troops.
Kudos to Edward on the Diplo check. Made me rewrite a whole chunk. LOL
I'll get an update up sometime today/tonight.

Guys - sorry for sporadic and unreliable posting. School is absolutely crushing me.

My turn to be AWOL, I'm afraid. Work is kicking my tail this week. Hoping I can catch up by this weekend. Sorry.

No problem. It'll give Castamir time to build the mother-of-all-bluffs!
Ali and I are at an all day seminar tomorrow (for those who know we're training with Bill Chun Jr (son of Honsuki's author) and Thomas Mitose, James Mitose's grandson.

S, I thought Thomas was James' SON, not grandson...

You know, I've been thinking. I don't think it's unreasonable to think a raging barbarian could stop to listen for a surrender. I mean, a barb CAN end his rage at will...is it really unreasonable to think he couldn't pause for a moment *during* his rage?
Davosh the Wanderer |
Barbarians are not (necessarily) berserkers. Barbs can end their rage at will, and can still communicate tactically with partymates.
GM thunderspirit |
Mechanically, I agree with both those statements.
RP-wise, it's Adam's vision of his character. Nothing says he has to be a reasonable Barbarian; goodness knows, I've met plenty of unreasonable non-Barbarians at the gaming table. ;-)
Ali'yanah D'ohr'hein |
ok, just sayin' that he doesn't necessarily have to ignore tactical suggestions while raging. :-) Now we know that if he does, he's chosing to. heh.
GM thunderspirit |
And then you can blame/mock/ridicule him all you want. ;-)
(Okay, not really. Your GM does not encourage that sort of thing.)
Vojtek Wartooth |
No but stopping rage causes me to be pooped. I can only rage cycle once per day at this point. Just seemed like a bad plan at this point tactically. Also, Vojtek has "house and home defense" issues stemming from his past.
Ali'yanah D'ohr'hein |

Not true...from the site's Barbarian rules:
"A barbarian can end her rage as a free action and is fatigued after rage for a number of rounds equal to 2 times the number of rounds spent in the rage. A barbarian cannot enter a new rage while fatigued or exhausted but can otherwise enter rage multiple times during a single encounter or combat. "Just seemed like a bad plan at this point tactically. Also, Vojtek has "house and home defense" issues stemming from his past.
My point was, calling upon a barb's inner rage doesn't necessarily wipe out all rational thought and all self control--unless that's the way you wanna play it, of course. there's nothing stopping you, mechanically, from responding to a tactical suggestion (like "give him a chance to surrender") with somethign other than continuing the attack, savvy?
if you thought it was a bad idea, then I have no problem with your ignoring it. If you thoguht you had to because of barb rage...that's where my issue lay. So, I believe we're all good.

Hey superfriends - The extreme pain is over for now. My 1 week school intensive is over. Of course they post the final exam, which I'm told is a massive paper, on the blackboard this weekend so I might be less than Johnny-on-the-spot for posting for another week. It all depends on what the final looks like I guess.
School was so much easier when I didn't really care about anything except graduating!
GM thunderspirit |
Good to know, V. Hope you're gettin' something from all that fancy book lernin!
FYI to all — I always (well, almost always, which is to say when I don't forget, LOL) make the maps so that anyone with the link should be able to access it.
However, for those of you still having issues with the maps (keep in mind there was no map for the Edward vs Sertane fight, but there was one for the guard combat at Nadya's home): PM me an email address — if you log into Google and/or use Gmail, that one for certain — and let's see if sharing specifically with that email fixes the issue. If it does, great; if it doesn't, we can explore other map options.
Editable via layers (images stacked on top of each other) or similar feature; easy to figure out for a n00b like me, and accessible at work by your GM.
Edward W.Fell |
Not sure if it will be blocked at your work ot not, but here is an awesome tool to use for campaigns. It is called Roll20.net. It is a virtual gaming table top. Complete with die roller. Full map controls differet layers, assign specific token control, many different lighting choices. Such as dynamic lighting, Assign individual aura's to tokens... check it out.
If you want to create an account there, I can assign you as a GM of one of my campaigns so you can check it out. The basic features are free, but if you want to be able to access it from tablets or use advanced features there is a small recurring charge.
Which will also give us the option if we want to set a time to play out a scene it has voice and video chat built in to enable it to feel like a gaming table.
Dungeon Master S |
Those are all blocked on my government issue computer.

Like Roll20 a lot.
Can't use it at work.

Okay, guys, was hoping to get something else up yesterday, but events conspired against it and, well, I didn't.
We fly out to Orlando this afternoon (my bride has a conference at the House of Mouse next week) and I know for certain I won't have time to do anything until at least Tuesday, if not later.
I thought I'd already posted this, but apparently not, so sorry for the late notice.

With that we are sitting at 4,240xp, need 1,720 for next level.

Nice, I will probably be traveling to Jax Fla in the beginning of Nov for the weekend. Probably get there Friday eve, and leave Sun afternoon.

Posting will still be sporadic through Saturday. However, working under the presumption that something is better than nothing... ;-)

Diplomacy adj Hatch attitude: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12
Edward is fine for trying to bluff our way past the guards. He realises that we can't fight our way to the objective.
Roll for Bluff/Disguise assist whatever is needed: 1d20 ⇒ 4

500 xp for the guards, and 1000 for not having to face the ice golem at all. :-)

You can stop this from happening. To do so, you must find Baba Yaga. Only the Mother, the Queen of Witches, can defeat Elvanna and undo what her daughter has done. To find her, you must use her Dancing Hut and follow her. It is a powerful artifact that can cross great distances, even travel between worlds. If you can control the Hut, it can take you to Baba Yaga.
Finding the Hut is not difficult — Elvanna stole it and has put it on display in Irrisen's capital of Whitethrone, as a symbol of her power. But securing the Hut will perhaps be a different matter entirely.
This is basically a rough outline of the entire adventure path. :-)
The journey to Whitethrone awaits you in Chapter 2...just as soon as you infiltrate the Pale Tower and reveal its secrets!

Will be out of town till at least Sunday evening will be in Jacksonville Fla for the weekend. Please autopilot me. Use the bow to stay at range, if DR is a problem use smite, keep the healing up using life link. then heal self with Lay on hands to myself as a swift action or with spells all healing to me receives a +2/die due to fey foundling.
GM thunderspirit |
Haven't forgotten about you guys.
Had two conventions this weekend — not an experience I recommend, TBH — and wound up pinch-hitting in a GM slot I should've had off (and thus been able to address this) due to another GM essentially bailing on a promise. Household needs and sleep deprivation caught up with me last night and work has me pretty much buried today. (You know, the whole "apart from the unfortunate shooting incident, how did you like the play, Mrs. Lincoln?" situation.)
I should be able to post something tonight. My apologies for leaving things hanging all weekend, guys.
