Kaelic |
Kaelic frowns a bit and turns to Juma. "I bet he peed in it." The little gnome then shuffles along towards the passage Dagon discovered. He could swim, sure, but his necklace keeps him nice and airy, so he just worries about getting there.
Swim if needed: 1d20 ⇒ 19
GM Tektite |
Swimming across, everyone joins Dagon on the northeastern edge of the pool. Going north, the party enters a small room containing a couple statues of monks in various stances. Continuing north, you enter a similar room with similar statues. A corridor leads east fifteen feet to a door.

Kaelic |
"I don't think this one counts as 'hidden', Juma." Kaelic says, noting the door quite obviously placed at the end of the hall.
GM Tektite |
Going through the concealed door, you enter a small, squarish chamber with a door in the western wall. taking the western door, you enter a long, rectangular room. Three fifteen-foot-diameter platforms lie in this room, each rising three feet high. In the center of each platform, a globe-shaped container of murky liquid sits in the embrace of an octopus-shaped brass cradle. Each globe is about two feet across-the two westernmost globes are intact, and a dark indistinct mass floats in the center of each. The eastern globe has been shattered, and a large stain has spread out around it on the floor. Along the wall near the eastern door sits a tiny wooden cabinet with a message scribbled on it front. A similar one sits beside a western door, on the far end of the room.

Knowledge(whatever) on the liquids: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18 or 19 on Planes or Arcana
Dagon reads the inscription on the nearest cabinet.
Linguistics, if necessary: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (10) + 11 = 21
Kaelic |
"What's it say, Dagon? Anything helpful?" Kaelic asks, trying to identify the sculptures as possible magical foci or holy symbols.

Juma shrugs. "Sure, why not?"
He then walks up to the cabinet and tries to smash it.
Staff (2HPA): 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (2) + 12 = 14, Damage: 1d6 + 17 ⇒ (1) + 17 = 18/Fire: 1d6 ⇒ 5
Kaelic |
"Okay you guys, I really doubt this is the puzzle. There was probably something useful inside the cabinet, yeah?" Kaelic says as he watches Juma assault the furniture.
Juma Salvadore |
"Whoah! I felt it too! Half-man, stay away from the furniture or it'll attack your half-brain!"
Juma continues hitting furniture with a stick. Do I need to keep rolling as I batter this cabinet to pieces?
Kaelic |
"Juma, open it to see if--" Kaelic sighs and resigns himself to watching the burly fighter brawl with the supposedly "evil" cabinet. "Yes, you look like the smart one right now."
Juma Salvadore |
"You know," Juma replies as he continues swinging his stick at the cabinet, "For a spellcaster, you don't know magic very well. This cabinet is the material focal point for a mind-affecting magical discharge—probably something from the Enchantment school of magic. It appears to be set to an interactive trigger condition, as Dagon felt the magic when he tried to read it and I felt it when I took my first swing. In effect, it's a magical trap or long-duration hazardous spell. As is typical for this type of arrangement, the integrity of the magical energies involved is dependent upon the cohesion of the material focal point: in this case, the cabinet. As such, eliminating the material cohesion of the trigger point should in turn disrupt the magical integrity, rendering the trap inert. Hence, smashing. Learn to magic, noob."
Kaelic |
Will: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
I can only get that close with a double move. Less if there's difficult terrain.
"Yeah yeah, I can't hear you over the sound of LET'S BREAK THIS THING TOO!" Kaelic says as he springs into action.
Dagon Nommo |
"Gah, it's trying to get in my head again! Kaelic, burn the cabinet! No one smash the globe; that's what it wants!"
Dagon casts a spell on himself, hoping to keep the voices out of his head.

Juma moves over to the gnome and knocks him on his back.
Staff Trip: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (2) + 18 = 20
If Kaelic tries to stand, I'll take the AoO to disarm him. That'll provoke because I don't have Improved Disarm, and if he hits me (with -4 due to being prone, making it unlikely) the damage will apply as a penalty to this disarm attempt (which is against his prone CMD):
AoO Disarm: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (17) + 16 = 33
If he does other things that provoke (such as picking up a fallen weapon, I'll take further AoOs to trip him or, if already prone, further disarm him.

Maffei watches in stunned silence as everyone begins destroying the furniture in the room. Juma and Kaelic manage to smash the globe, shattering the glass and spilling the briny liquid on the floor.
