Hey there! Go ahead and check in. Gameplay thread is open to dot.

As I told D-Kal, I'm running this for two other groups on the PbP boards. My first group is five months in and we have about another 4-6 weeks left. My second started a few weeks later, but they have been going at a slower pace. So I would say, expect 6-8 months to complete. I'm assuming you guys want to report this for PFS credit? (Campaign mode)

I will say this is, in my opinion, an awesome module. It has a little bit of everything. There can be a a great deal of sandbox-y RP. I'll leave it up to you guys to decide how much or how little you would like to do.

As far as what goes, I'm fine with pretty much anything. As far as I'm concerned, whatever you guys want to do to have fun is cool. Preferably Pathfinder material only, due to me not owning any third party stuff.

An example, the first table I'm running, we started as a way to test the ACG classes from 1st to 7th level, and one guy is playing a kobold, while another is playing a skinwalker.

Three players could make it a little harder, but if you guys want to do, say a 25 pt buy or something, that'd be fine. (Consider me your facilitator of fun as well as the GM.)

I saw mention of Gestalt, and though I know the term, I admit to not knowing what that translates to for RP classes.

D-Kal knows me fairly well and I am always on the boards. (Enough to know the Rainy Day Ninja was going to be the third player before he jumped onto the thread.) I typically post a few times throughout the day, but there are times I get busy with work and can only post in the evenings and maybe during lunch, but in the past, typically run fairly fast, efficient games.

So, I have to ask, are all three of you brothers? I know RDN has stated the Jiggy is his brother, but I remember a recruitment thread about a year ago where RDN stated D-Kal was his brother as well. (Like I said, I'm always on the boards.) Also, not really any of my business, just curious.

RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2013 Top 16

Yeah, I think we want to do this for PFS credit. And yes, the 3 of us are all brothers.

I'm leaving to go to Chicago in an about an hour and will return Sun. evening. I'll be able to post from my phone while you guys decide on concepts and whatnot.

Also a quick note about PFS chronicles. This one, your supposed to wait until finished with the entire module, then apply all four Chronicles at once (if able). Just so you know, as you think about what PC your applying them to.

I'll link the relevant post from John Compton when I return tomorrow night.

The Exchange

Jiggy should play a kobold or reptile and RDN should play a ninja.
Makes sense to me.

Thanks for running Tektite! We'll sort out what we're playing here I guess.

The Exchange

Oh, and fyi, gestalt (as I understand it) is just picking two classes at each level and gaining the class features of both. You take the better HD, BAB, and saves. While stacking class features can be quite powerful, you still only have up to full BAB and your action economy doesn't change, which means that generally you are considered 1.5x as powerful as a normal PC.
However, I do not believe we are going this route. I think we're just planning to do the 3 of us as normal PCs and tough it out.

So, what do you guys want to do for:
Stats?
--point buy?
--rolling scheme?
--heroic NPC stat array?

Races?
--anything from ARG?
--custom 10RP races?
--monster races? Dragons?

Starting money?
--average for class?
--max for class?
--150gp?
--roll?

And I assume we're doing standard 2 traits.

Grand Lodge RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32

Okay, I know I expressed (to D-Kal, at least) a disinterest in gestalt, but suddenly it's tickling my fancy a bit.

Something about making custom races with gestalt levels kinda makes me giggle...

Grand Lodge RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32

Oh, and a note to the GM: for some reason, I can't check paizo.com Private Messages from home. I can get on the boards from home, I just can't read PMs. So if you ever need to contact me during the weekend and it can't wait until Monday, probably best to post here.

No problem. I'm back after an interesting weekend of travel and probably totaling our vehicle, though everyone is fine and no injuries besides some soreness.

As I said, I'm fine letting you guy's decide build parameters. For my other tables, we did the standard PFS build, but without restrictions on races or archetypes. With only three, I could see, at minimum, doing a 25 pt buy with max gold, but then again, if your looking for a challenge....

Grand Lodge RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32

If we did decide to do gestalt, dibs on fighter/wizard.

The Exchange

GM Tektite wrote:

Man, Chicago really is dangerous. Hope that all works out.

Jiggy wrote:

Fighter/wizard? Please, that's so obvious. If we did gestalt, it would be the perfect chance to play a real character. You could make a barbarian/alchemist Mundo, a rogue/gunslinger [*any given action hero*], a samurai/elemental wizard dark jedi, a ranger/inquisitor master hunter, etc, etc.

Actually it happened only an hour from our house. We then rented a car and drove the other four and half hours to Chicago. My fault, pulled out into traffic and didn't see a car coming. Lucky I didn't pull out an instant earlier or I would have been hit in the driver side door by a car doing about fifty. Ouch!

Warpriest/monk?

Cleric/cleric?
Sorcerer/oracle?
Ninja/Dawnflower Dervish?
Fighter/fighter?

The Exchange

You can't gestalt with the same class. Don't be crazy.

Grand Lodge RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32

Hey, I've never done this before.

RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2013 Top 16

Gestalt is OK; we should all do gestalt with Gunslinger as one of our classes.

But I don't want to get into custom races and stuff.

The Exchange

Well nobody would make you. You can play whatever race you want.
I don't think we should all gestalt gunslinger though. That sounds nutty.

Grand Lodge RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32

Yeah, I'm not feeling very gunslingy, gestalt or otherwise.

The Exchange

Alright, to spur action, I hereby propose the following:

  • 15-point buy
  • Gestalt (your choice on classes, favor thematic over munchkin)
  • 12RP custom races or any existing race
  • Avg starting gold (for either class)
  • No magical crafting
  • No synth summoners
  • Characters due by EOD Saturday

15 points seems a bit light, especially with two classes making demands on our ability scores. Can we make it 20 instead?

Seconded.

OK, I'm thinking Merfolk Dirge Bard/Mysterious Stranger. Thoughts?

Very well then, changing to 20pt buy, the rest stands.

1. I think you're crazy for playing a Merfolk

2. Guns don't work well underwater
3. I smell a munchkin.

1. Crazy? Or crazy-awesome?

2. I can have an underwater crossbow as a backup. Plus, I don't think we'll be underwater that much.
3. I promise all my stats will be between 10 and 17.

I'm thinking custom-race ninja/sorcerer themed around tricks/shadows/sneaky-ness.

The Exchange

If you make a darkvision race you could have some fun with nightmare fist. It's not really optimized, but it's kind of cool.
For that matter, if you just went Drow you wouldn't even need sorcerer. Just use "recharge innate magic" as a rogue talent or even from potions.

RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2013 Top 16

Or, I could try my Undine Zen Archer/Pistolero. Gun fu...

I keep picturing you guys pulling the merman around in a water-filled tank cart.

The Exchange

I actually have a rather humorous character with a crab animal companion. Crabs can only stay out of the water for about 12 hours, so he carries around a collapsible tub.

Zen Archer/Pistolero sounds pretty interesting, though I admit Bard has a lot more party play. I'm a fan of the Arcane Duelist archetype myself.

RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2013 Top 16

How about doing the Dirge Bard/Mysterious Stranger as a Dhampir instead? A bit more on-theme, I suppose.

The Exchange

Ooooh, I like that. Very nice.

The Exchange

Any updates?
The sooner you guys get something set in stone, the sooner I can figure out what I'm doing.

D-Kal wrote:

Back at ya.

The Exchange

Oh. Well, since you were talking about going skill/arcane/melee, and RDN was proposing skill/arcane/ranged, I figured I'd do tank/divine/melee.
My current concepts are a Rage Prophet (mad dog barbarian, oracle) or a Dragon Cleric (fire/scalykind domains, some fighter levels probably).

If you have Inner Sea Combat, there are a ton of archetypes. Spellscar Drifter...

The Exchange

I'm having a tough time falling in love with my build concepts. Mostly there's just So. Much. Power. Suddenly I want to do one of these:

  • Keep gestalt, but everyone plays goblins
  • Keep gestalt, but everyone plays kobolds
  • Ditch gestalt & custom races, but everyone gets a halfling or gnome sidekick (NPC stats/levels) (yes, Jiggy, I know this is like what you said).

As a sidenote, why is there not a minstrel NPC? Something like the aristocrat, but with inspire courage/competence and only light armor/simple weapon proficiency.

Grand Lodge RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32

We could go hardcore and do NPC classes with basic NPC stat arrays. Dibs on adept.

The Exchange

Haha! NPC classes, basic NPC stat arrays, all kobold.
Dibs on the minstrel.

Grand Lodge RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32

Seriously though, I too am feeling a bit of option paralysis. Maybe let's tone it down to ordinary races and non-gestalt, maybe with a high point buy for stats and/or some other minor boost?

RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2013 Top 16

Non-gestalt, 25 point buy, one bonus feat?

Heh, you guys are funny. How about this.

25 pt buy:
Max gold for class
Any class or archetype (including early entry in PrC)
Any race in the ARG:
One extra Feat at Level One consisting of- (might sound familiar D-Kal?)

  • Acrobatic
  • Alertness
  • Animal Affinity
  • Athletic
  • Deceitful
  • Deft Hands
  • Hermean Blood
  • Nature Soul
  • Persuasive
  • Prodigy
  • Scholar
  • Self-Sufficient
  • Skill Focus
  • Stealthy

Edit: The feat thing is just something we use in some of the AP's we play. I'm completely fine with just any free feat.

The Exchange

No sidekicks?
I'm good with RDN's proposal as well, but it practically railroads me into playing a nine-tails kitsune.

EDIT: Ninja'd!
I would add Endurance to that list myself.

The Exchange

Hey, why didn't I think of this before? We should just gestalt with an NPC class. That makes it easy! Do you want:
Magic? - adept
BAB? - warrior
Skills? - expert
Nothing? - commoner

I could definitely see an adept rogue, a warrior wizard, an expert fighter, and a commoner monk (that would be RDN).

The Exchange

Some possible party combinations:

Adept Rogue*
Adept Wizard
Warrior Druid

Warrior Bard*
Aristocrat Sorcerer
Warrior Cleric

Adept Fighter
Warrior Witch
Adept Ranger*

Expert Oracle*
Adept Barbarian
Warrior Wizard

Adept Gunslinger
Adept Alchemist*
Warrior Inquisitor

*the trap monkey

Grand Lodge RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32

I like the gestalt-with-NPC-class idea.

The Exchange

Then what do you want to play?
Have a preferred combo or party combo?

RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2013 Top 16

Gah, not NPC classes!

The Exchange

Welp, that's a consensus.
Still on track for EOD tomorrow?
