Mr. Hammerfist |
I was going to post this in my recruitment thread, but since it was sort of directed to Hammerfist, I figured I'd say it here, rather than potentially spoil something.
I really like the Confirmation, but I sort of wish the Chronicle was worded differently. In my mind, Master of the Fallen Fortress, First Steps 1, and Confirmation make a nice PC story arc.
** spoiler omitted **
I agree MotFF, 1st Steps, The Confirmation makes a nice intro story arc. We're actually going to be running that setup a bunch at KublaCon for new players.
Reynaldo Li |
I like MoFF, so any arc that includes that is just fine with me. :-)
Tek, if you haven't seen what Walter Johnson posted (IIRC, borrowed/lifted greatly from Chris Mortika) as a nice little intro to MoFF as a PFS mission, check it out. I don't remember if it's on the VO boards or the regular ones.
EDIT: can't find the thread I found it in, but here's Chris' original post on it.
EDIT 2: Aha!
Lia the Huntress |
Not for me. I'm going to start taking levels in Father in July, so no conventions for me for the next few years. Will be hard-pressed enough to make it to our local GenghisCon and TactiCon. So if anyone's in the Denver area, come by in February and September! =P
Reynaldo Li |
Congrats, Sior! Get prepared for the ride of your life, man.
As it happens, my wife has some work stuff in Denver long about June. We need to take in a Rockies game, but after that... :-)
Lia the Huntress |
Thanks! =) Always knew my first child would be a girl. Just knew it.
You could head down to the Renaissance Festival. Or Comic Con! All happening in June. (Be sure to check out Enchanted Grounds coffee shop and "game emporium"!)
Ares Aeroflot |
No cons for me either at least not until fall. Work schedule too crazy this year for my project. I just realized it has been a year since my last f2f game day or local con. Nothing but PbP. I missed out on going to Paizocon by one weekend last year. My work trip to Seatttle was a week too late. :-(.
GM Tektite |
Shut the door! Congratulations Sior! You know, I have three girls myself, ages 7, 5, and 2. They're a blast. I honestly don't know what I would do with boys. My first, I thought I might want a boy, the second, I was ambivalent, and the third I just wanted another girl. I unashamedly admit that they have me wrapped. Daddy's girls and all that.
My only piece of advice would be to start practicing functioning on only a couple hours of sleep. The first eight weeks are...daunting, but after that it quickly gets easier. My wife and I were beside ourselves with the first. We lived in Seattle, away from any family and were quite overwhelmed. That was the impetus to move back to Indiana, but by the time we were arranged to move, it had already settled down and I would have chosen to stay in Washington if we could have. (I admit we were very uptight first time parents, though most everyone is.)
By the third, we were just like, eh, she's fine. It's ok if she ate that cracker after the dog licked it....
Lia the Huntress |
Thank you! It's been hell not being able to say anything, but we were sort of waiting to know the gender before shouting it from the tallest buildings, which is exactly what I feel like doing! My wife has already accepted the fact that she'll be a daddy's girl, haha.
Thanks for the advice! I think I'll have a better time of that than the Mrs. I already don't sleep much. Work, yes. Sleep, no. We are in a similar boat where her folks are a state south of us in NM and mine southwest in AZ. No real family close by, just friends.
Anyway, I didn't mean to derail the conversation. Go conventions! Whoo!
(Side note, I saw ratfolk was up for grabs for GM boon. Now I REALLY want to go!)
GM Tektite |
No worries on the derail. I never tire of talking about my kids, as just about any parent.
Last year I signed up to GM six slots so I could get the Suli boon, but had to drop my Sunday slot after I learned my kid's first soccer game was that Sun. (I coach and asst. coach the two oldest's teams.) So this year I went for the brutal schedule and signed up to run the first eight slots, taking Sat. night off and Sun. So I have a chance to play Bonekeep 3 in slot 9 Sat night, but who knows. Last year, I was so tired by Sat. I gave my ticket to slot 9, Bonekeep 2, to another player at my Slot 8 table so I could make the two and half hour drive home and get home before 3:00 am. and get up a couple hours later to coach a bunch of 4-6 yr old girls running pell mell around a soccer field. I'll buy a ticket and see how I feel this year.
Pirate Rob |
Last time I passed through Denver, the people were really nice to me, especially Drogon (Enchanted Grounds)
I was like I'll be in Denvner and am free Friday during the day, is somebody up for running a game?
4 hours later Drogon tells me he's set up a table 11am for me with a GM, has put up an advertisement for my players and expects it to be full by the end of the day.
---
My current GenCon plan is to GM 7 slots (all mornings/afternoons) and play in the 3 specials.
Lia the Huntress |
Pirate Rob, that was a fun game. Words of the Ancients, I believe. I died to those blasted beasts in the top level like most everyone else, hahaha.
3 specials? There will be 3 specials this year?
Pirate Rob |
So Gencon has Bonekeep 3 [5-9] (Which is listed as a GenCon exclusive). Smart money has it eventually becoming the new 4* VO exclusive.
It also has 2 specials, one wrapping up Season 5 in the Worldwound.
Legacy of the Stonelords [1-11]
At long last, the Pathfinders have reached the lost Sky Citadel Jormurdun only to find it already occupied by fiends and subterranean foes. The Society must mount an epic offense to explore the immense subterranean city while simultaneously driving off the squatters within. If they succeed, the Pathfinders may discover that the greatest prize is not the mountain fortress itself but the treasure that lies at its heart. The adventure concludes Season 5, Year of the Demon.
The other:
The beginning of Season 6 Gen Con Special, The Paths We Choose, scheduled for Thursday night, will help us kick off Season 6 by showing off the achievements of many of the factions' Season 5 goals. As a tease, here is the short description as it will appear in the Gen Con catalog:
The failure of Mendev's wardstones set in motion not only a new crusade, but also catalyzed a change in the Society's various factions.
More information on the factions and surprises upcoming will be offered in a series of blog posts later this year. This special is designed for levels 3—7.
Lia the Huntress |
So Bonekeep 3, assuming the 1-11 is an interactive like Siege of the Diamond City was, and the Season 6 Gen Con special... Sounds like a really fun time. Wish I could make it! You lot will have to keep us informed!

Starting in the next day or so I'm putting together a small group (2-5) to play Microscope as a pbp. It's a GMless cooperative world building RPG. No experience is necessary, the Amazon reviews are pretty good if you're curious about the concept.
If any of you are interested I'd be delighted to have you along.

Looks interesting Pirate Rob! Will have to pick it up.

Just in case I wasn't clear, owning the book isn't at all necessary. It has a nice little section on how to teach the game :)
Pirate Rob |
Here is the opening post for Microscope, I'll be adding more shortly. So far I've got 3 of us and am hoping to get one more player.
Reynaldo Li |
Sigh...I was minutes away from posting last night, when my 2 yr old woke up. Inconsiderate toddler! ;)
Haha!
But they're only that age once, m'friend. Try to let 'em take your time. :-)
Reynaldo Li |
No problem. I'll be near , if not in the Smokeys this weekend, as we're going to Knoxville to see the in-laws for Spring Break. That almost always entails a trip to Gatlinburg so my wife and her mother can go to the outlet malls in Sevierville. At least there is the Smokey Mountain Knife Factory and the Bass Pro Shop for me and the kids. Though we may go to the park, since my 5 yr old is currently fascinated with Native Americans after learning about them around Thanksgiving. She thinks "real Indians" still live in the "Smoke Mountains".
Haha, that's great. :-D
I do enjoy visiting the Smokeys (tourist trap of Gatlinburg notwithstanding). Very pretty out there.
Of course given my druthers, I'd live on the Atlantic Coast, in one of the Carolinas.

Heck ya! I had a buddy, then a sister-in-law who lived in Charleston. I absolutely loved going down there. We actually looked for jobs there when my wife was job hunting
Ares Aeroflot |
We are visiting the area with my sister from Knoxville for Spring Break. We did not stop in Gatlinburg as yet. Drove thru yesterday on way back to Pigeon Forge from the national park. My wife and sister are on their 3rd trip to the outlet malls in Sevierville while I am at the local park with my boys. Weather is nice so nice just to be outside.
Reynaldo Li |
This winter steeled my resolve to move south. >.<
My youngest stepchild is 13 in June, so I'm definitely here for a bit. But in five years, I'mma be looking in earnest, lemme tell ya.
Reynaldo Li |
Quick note: I'll be out of town for a Convention from Thursday Night (3/27) - Sunday Night (3/30)
Curiously, so will I (though mine is Thursday morning).
I suspect it's a different one, unless you've made your way back to the Midwest. :-D

I'll be at [url=http://www.conquestsac.com/]ConQuest Sacramento.[/ooc]
I'm getting to play Midnight Mirror & Broken Chains, and I'm GMing 1st Steps, Where Mammoths Dare not Tread, and The Elven Entanglement.
Reynaldo Li |
I'm at GaryCon in Lake Geneva, the town where this whole gaming stuff started. :-)
GM Tektite |
I'm back! Shew! It was a good, but tiring weekend. We had a much stronger turnout than expected! Which is awesome because I have had very little success organizing FLGS gamedays in the area, but crossing finger, that's going to change.
Most likely won't get us updated until this evening, but the wifey went out of town for work this week, so my evenings will be free to spend catching up and getting ready for the PbP Gameday!
Reynaldo Li |
Know what you mean. Sometimes with organizing you just try something — anything — and see what happens.
GaryCon had 25 tables scheduled, and we actually ran nearly 50. O.o
Also, this happened Friday night, right in front of the "homage to Gary" table. :-)
Lia the Huntress |
Lia is leveled, I just have to input the information on her profile here. Soon as I finish my homework tonight. So tomorrow evening at the latest. (It has been a VERY busy week and weekend...)
