Davo knows that these oozes are immune to cold, but vulnerable to fire. Fire does make them split, as do slashing attacks. They are highly volatile and leave volatile residue on things they hit.

Perhaps Davo didn't hear the parlay, or perhaps his gnomish fury is too great.
