Leaving the Wisp, you find Drang is no longer on the street corner, apparently deciding not to wait for you.....
Created in 4330 AR, the Wall of Names resides on the grounds of the Grand Lodge in Absalom. The monument is a curving wall of black glass that stands atop a small hill at the western edge of the lodge’s grounds. Trees surround the hill, providing ample shade and privacy for those visiting the wall to remember fallen comrades. Carved into the wall are the name and date of death of every Pathfinder killed in the course of duty since the wall’s construction, and most entries also include a sentence or two summarizing either the agent’s greatest accomplishments or how she died.
Searching the Wall, you are able to find the names of the three false Pathfinders and their epithets.
Doulgonlir Caskmail
Deceased 4332 AR
Travelled to distant Jalmeray.
Failed to maintain the necessary Sixteen Poses.
Hollis “Evil Grin” Thorne
Deceased 4331 AR
Wrote in solitude for 101 days.
Lived a long life of silence and serenity.
Karina Clamp
Deceased 4330 AR
Sought to brave the Path of Aganhei.
Spoiled rations and wastefulness ended that dream.
As you look at the names, you note that 'Sixteen Poses', 'silence and serenity', and 'rations and wastefulness' are underlined.
Reesa |
Lol, I'm terrible at puzzles. Any Knowledge skills relevant? heres a roll. 1d20 ⇒ 7
Djezet Hammerhand |
Djezet gives a humph! sound. "Sounds like the stuff the Irorans are always prattling on about."
Stag the Bold Strider |
"To the Stonemason!" Stag yells as he runs off with the bottle of wine still in his backpack!
Reesa |
You have to actually put a rank in the particular skill to be considered as trained. Just having it on your list, without putting a rank in doesn't count as trained. at least, I'm pretty sure that is the case.
Djezet Hammerhand |
Actually I think bards can make the roll no matter but Reesa is correct for any other character. Since it says or you'd have to just choose one, not get three separate rolls.
Djezet ponders the names and descriptions but can't make heads or tails of them.
Kiddrik Brown |
Know (religion): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22
Kidd lifts his hat to scratch his head. ”Hey, I recognize some’a this … the underlined parts are the same as the portfolios of failed aspirants to that Starstone test. There’s a Shrine of the failed somewhere, right?”
I paraphrased a bit, so feel free to read the spoiler yourself in case my paraphrasing clouded the meaning.
Reesa |
"do you think that Shrine might shed some light on what those underlines mean? If so, maybe we should go there first."
Stag the Bold Strider |
Did anyone flag down Stag?
Stag looks around as he realizes that no one is behind him. "I thought we were going running to the stonemason's quad..."
"Where'd they go?"
Reesa |
Lol, I assume someone would have yelled as you as we diverted course, Stag.
"So who can we talk to around here that might explain the clues back at the wall? Anyone ever been here before? Those guards didn't seem likely to help.
Djezet Hammerhand |
"No, the guards didn't look pleased to see us. But about them?" Djezet makes his way over to one of the people tending the shrine. Alloy follows closely behind. "Hello! We were wondering if you could be of help to us."
Diplomacy aid: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17
Reesa |
Diplomacy 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14 +2 from Djzet's aid.
Reesa approaches with Djezet. "He's quite right. We have a couple questions, and were thinking you looked quite qualified to answer, if you'd be so kind."
Stag the Bold Strider |
Assumptions!
Stag wanders around, returning to the area where he began his jaunt to the find the stonemason, but his fellow Pathfinders are noticeably absent.
"Maybe they went to Korvosan Fried Cockatrice... do you think that is still open?" Stag wonders out loud.
Joesef Deadwillow |
Yeah, could you help us? We'd really appreciate it if you'd take a moment.
Diplo Aid: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
Djezet Hammerhand |
Will: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Djezet thanks the attendant and then stands studying the shrines for a few moments. "Although I don't see how this helps," he mumbles after the man walks away.
Dalangi |
Will save: 1d20 ⇒ 9
Dalangi watches in rapt silence. Looking about his surroundings he notices that one is missing. Where did the loud one go.....
Reesa |
Will save 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15
"Well the shrines are pretty, I suppose, but I can't figure out what they have to Dow its us."
Kiddrik Brown |
Will save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
Kiddrik nods his thanks to the guardsmen then ambles over to the shrines, looking at each in turn. "Huh," he mutters, a confounded look on his face, "I got nothin'. And I got no idea what any o'this has to do with what we found back in those notes. Should we go check out those other leads? The stonemason and the gnome?"
I, much like my character, got nothing. Maybe we'll get more information elsewhere?
Stag the Bold Strider |
Stag finds the group, a bucket of fried cockatrice in his arms. "Mmpfh... You guys find some... Mmpfh... thing? To the Snarf... stonemason's?"
Djezet Hammerhand |
Djezet nods in agreement with Stag. "We've found nothing here. Let's hope our visit to the stonemason's mausoleum yields something better."[/b]
Dalangi |
Dalangi peers into the bucket as his sharp teeth glisten in the darkness. Ah... welcome back. Did you find any useful information?
GM Tektite |
1d4 ⇒ 3
Deciding to follow up on other leads, the party heads to the stonemason's mausoleum. Details left by Selmius Foster indicate the location of Arkath’s burial site: a plot of land in Eastgate operated by the Church of Abadar.
As you approach, you see a gaurd pacing the grounds. Looking up, he hails you. "Abadar's blessing on you. What is the nature of your business?" The guards says with deliberate succinctness.
Kiddrik Brown |
Kiddrik gives his winningest grin, removes his hat, and dips an awkward bow to the priest. ”The honor’s ours, mister priest. I always like to see one of Abadar’s lookin’ after the remains a’those that have passed on. Can always count on it bein’ kept all proper and respectful-like. You do a good thing, sir.” He casts an appreciative eye over the surroundings grave markers, ”A good thing, indeed.”
Let’s see if we can get him to like us more, shall we?
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16
Kiddrik nods along at Reesa’s response, but he shoots her a sideways glance, looking slightly uncomfortable.
”My friend here is right. We want to look in on a stonemason who is resting here, but to be completely honest, it’s more than that. We’re from the Pathfinder Society, and we found some old notes just this mornin’ that don’t look too good for this stonemason. Fact is they indicate that he took somethin’ to his grave that weren’t his to take. Some kinda key or somethin’ that should'a been reported through the Society to be best used by everyone. Divination magic showed he has the key, and we want to see if we can find it. Get to the bottom of all this.”
He pauses, looking earnestly at the priest. ”We want to do all this respectful-like, though, and we were hopin’ you’d help us out. Wanna do things right, ya know?”
Can I get some AA's on this, folks? :D
Djezet Hammerhand |
Diplomacy aid: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
"Doesn't our position in the Society grant us some authority here?" Djezet asks gruffly.
Reesa |
Aid Another Diplomacy 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
"We are simply looking to help out the Society."
Joesef Deadwillow |
Yeah, we're on a mission! We're doing good things and stuff and you seem like the kinda guy that likes to do good things.
Diplo Aid: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
GM Tektite |
The man give Djezet a sidelong, incredulous glance, shaking his head. "I'm afraid not." He says, stroking his chin. Nodding to the party, he says. "Walk with me."
"As a servant of Abadar, I cannot condone tomb raiding, as your society is well known for." He says, each word measured and deliberate. He arches an eyebrow at you to make his point. "If what you say is true, though, then by Abadar's judgement, it would not be defiling the dead's possessions, but repatriating a misplaced object." He then pauses, as if weighing something in his mind, then sighs. "You have one hour and you must see me before leaving, is that understood?"
GM Tektite |
The guard nods and points. "Right behind you."
Entering the masoleum, you find the interior of Arkath’s sarcophagus is
empty save for the stonemason’s long-dead skeleton. Searching, you discover a small silver coin in the skeleton's mouth.
Dalangi |
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
Hmm this seems to be a Pathfinder Coin. I have only heard of these spoken in the shadows. It is said that if placed above a wayfinder that it will release a prerecorded message.
Dalangi grasps he pathfinder coin in his clawed spindely hand. Might one of you carry your wayfinder with you?
Reesa |
Reesa completed the Confirmation and received all the boons, so she has her own Wayfarer that she volunteers.
Kiddrik Brown |
Kiddrik gives Reesa a lopsided grin, eager to see what the coin does. As he waits, he leans his longspear on a coffin to pull out his journal and charcoal, ready to record the spoken message.
"Ready when y'all are."
Stag the Bold Strider |
Stag munches away at the deep-fried food as he watches the rest of his team examine some silver coin they found.
