I am not well versed at charging, but I am thinking the elephant is in the way, right? If not, then I will draw my nodachi and charge at the large snake. But, assuming I am reading the situation correctly, I will instead take a 5' step, throw a javelin, and then draw the nodachi.

Conlaoch, seeing the elephant panic, can do nothing other than try to defeat the source. He quickly steps for a clear line of sight and throws his javelin.

Out of Combat!

With the snakes gone, the mahout is able to calm the elephant before it throws the Count and Baron off of it.

Both men commend the party for quickly dealing with the crisis.

A few hours after the encounter with the snake, the party reaches a place where a small stream crosses the trail. Baron Rudyahm explains that this is the stream he and his friends were following when the tiger ambushed them 5 years ago, and thus this is where they should break off from the trail to find the tiger’s territory.

Count Matsanda declines to accompany the party and the baron any further. He states that he and the porters will take the elephant half a day farther down the trail to a hunting lodge outpost, where they can wait in safety for the baron to finish his hunt.

After following the stream for an hour, the group reaches a small clearing. The jungle opens up into a wide grassy clearing bisected by a shallow, burbling stream. In the center of the clearing lies the partially eaten carcass of a gaur. Its throat has been torn open, and the grass all around the dead bison is covered in dried, sticky blood.

King Hurley:
You occasionally spot the shape of some large animal in the jungle. Whenever you pause to take a second look, it is gone, but you have the definite impression that something is stalking the party.

Baron Rudyahm proclaims that this is where they should set up their ambush for the tiger. He explains that the kill is fresh, which means the tiger will likely return to finish its meal later that night.

Searcing the area, oddly, you do not find any tiger tracks, only hoofprints, which the baron judges to be antelope tracks.

KN: arcana DC 20:
Rather than antelope, you think these tracks are of some kind of leucrotta.

The aging hunter instructs the party on how to set up machans—a type of portable hunter’s blind—in the trees around the clearing. The machans are mounted 20 feet up in the lower branches of the trees and camouflaged by branches and leaves.

A machan can hold up to three medium creatures comfortably, though it is not sturdy enough to provide effective cover during combat.

Once the machans are in place, the baron directs the party to climb into the machans and wait for the tiger to return. He warns the group that they should avoid descending once night falls, lest you wish to come face to face with the angry tiger in the dark.

Ascending the rope ladders to a machan requires a successful DC 10 Climb check, and climbing the tree without a ladder instead requires a successful DC 15 Climb check.

15 ft, so 1d6 of damage.

Damage to Hurley: 1d6 ⇒ 5

Hurley begins climbing down the ladder, misses a steps and falls to the ground!

Thorson climbs down and fires an arrow into the darkness...

Pierre starts climbing down, but makes no progress!

Devram climbs down the ladder and peers into the darkness!

Waki lights a sunrod and tosses it into the darkness, creating a radius of light!

Conloach moves toward the Baron!
