I am away at the moment, but will be home Friday night TST*
Luisila doesn't level up, but I won't have her completely updated 'til I get home. Hope that won't slow us down, GM Tektite.
I am thinking of buying (and have the funds for) a Jingasa of the Fortunate Soldier, a second +1 Evil Outsider Bane arrow and a Pathfinder's Pouch (6167 gp).
Ernest Kalthet |
But wasn't the one-off joke that you were me in disguise? (Ref: Something about lowering water level with pits.)
But no opinion here on a 6th, though its statistically better, iirc?

Hi, Bray! Are you 7th level yet?
I believe Port Godless will be Luisila and Varg's tenth mission together.
That's a bummer if Neb's too busy, but I reckon he knows where to find us for a game later on.
I am OK with a sixth if we're taking a vote.
Linnea Joculus |
To paraphrase a movie that really freaked me out as a kid, "Sometimes... six is better."
I think waiting on a sixth is a fine idea.
Luisila |
*Closes an eye* "Pet Sematary?"
I found Stephen King pretty late. I read his short story collection Night Shift in a big, old empty company house at a fairly remote location while working as a student ... bad move.
"And now for something completely different!" Luck bonus to AC. Does it affect touch, FF, neither or both?
Apart from her spell list, Luisila is updated.
Shan Pangu |
I'm sorry to say, but I'm out. If I wasn't out before, I'm defiantly out now.
But to answer Luisila's question, Luck Bonus to AC effects both Touch & FF.
And that's the bottom line.
'cause Nebten said so.
glass breaks and drops the mic
Luisila |
It's a 5-9 so you're fine, Cleaver.
Neb, hope things settle down for you soon.

So rebellious!
Though noting that Ernest is up-to-date and "don't forget that AC bonuses that aren't Shield, Natural, or Armor also go to CMD!" As for a 6th, I know during Desmond's Dwarftown Dungeon Delve, Sethious asked me a few times where along the line they were for getting back in purposes.
Linnea Joculus |
"don't forget that AC bonuses that aren't Shield, Natural, or Armor also go to CMD!"
How was I not aware of this? I need to update some of the CMDs on my characters!
Also, Ernie - Desmond's Dwarftown Dungeon Delve? I'm having a hard time trying to determine what this is referring to?
@Luisila - I haven't read much new stuff from King in a while. I hear his latest is good. I do think his short stories are overall stronger than his novels. He doesn't end his novels well.
I recently discovered his son, Joe Hill. He's got 2-3 novels and a short story collection: 20th Century Ghosts. A fantastic collection of stories. And his novel Horns is good - I'm intrigued by the casting of the movie adaptation and interested to see how it turns out.
Luisila |
And you, Sethious!
"don't forget that AC bonuses that aren't Shield, Natural, or Armor also go to CMD!"
Thank-you, Ernest!! For me I think it’s a case of being new to the mid-levels of the game, combined with a thick rule book. I find I am much more likely to remember a rule after seeing it demonstrated in gameplay (or after making a mistake with it) than just by reading it.
Hadn’t heard of Joe Hill, Linnea. Thanks, he’s going on the list!

I just really like alliteration.

10th mission together! Wow...how times fly!
Luisila |
Hi guys, I believe our party is Barbarian 6, Bard/Lore Warden 6, Sorcerer 5, Wizard 6, Cleric 7, Cleric 7.
APL = (Math is hard): 6 + 6 + 5 + 6 + 7 + 7 = 37 / 6 = 6.17 = low tier
We have plenty of combat support, but I am a bit concerned if we have enough damage dealing up front. Am I worrying about nothing?
I think the key to victory in a tough fight is based on Ernest/Lin’s battlefield control + Varg’s greataxe. (Especially true if the opposition has SR)
I have been thinking Luisila’s combat role might be to buff Varg initially and then try to ‘tank’ for him and Linnea. Her melee damage is pitiful though. This would also mean she would not be providing archery or spell support. Anyone have any thoughts on this?
Ernest Kalthet |
Ernest is actually pretty mobile with the teleportation subschool, but might actually bother with his Mage Armor wand in this one (which will be made noted as available to the group after the briefing.) The only subpar situation I'm seeing is a Dragon, with Flying / Good SR / and Big Melee, but that doesn't seem likely at this level/region. Barring SR, we've got a lot of magic Missile wands to help. Buying a few scrolls of Fly and getting them to folks who can get that on Varg will solve 9/10 problems, in my opinion. I'm probably going to buy 3, and if there's any left at the end, it'll go into my book.

Luisila |
Thanks for that, Ernest!
Brachus can also cast Fly. I might pick up another Oil of Bless Weapon for 50gp and give it to Varg.
I'll ponder tank/buff spells and finalize my spell list straight after the briefing if that's OK, GM Tektite.
Brachus |
You want to synchronize spells again Luisila ?
I think I'll take Dimension door for my 4th lvl domain spell..and then take a blessing of fervor and maybe a freedom of movement?
Luisila |
That would be great, Brachus!
Blessing of Fervor seems like an awesome spell. Freedom of Movement too! Though, I will try to cast mine on Cleaver to prevent him getting slowed down.
If you have 2 x Sound Bursts, I might replace 2 x Bursts of Radiance with 2 x Grace. I’m thinking that spell might be useful to help flank with Cleaver or to retreat and heal if I get hit too much.
Chelsea is a blaster, so I don’t think Burst of Radiance will be missed.
I’ve dropped Prayer for Magic Vestment as one of my third level slots. Hmm … your third level slots look solid. Might have to get by with Bless, Blessing of Fervor and Inspire Courage from Lin.
Are you somewhere in Europe, Brachus?
Criticism from everyone is welcome!
Brachus |
Yes, The Netherlands (or the country that has Amsterdam in it) if that tells you anything.
I forgot you also get another lvl 1 spell at lvl 7..so I've added a sun metal spell as well..just in case we run into a troll or something.
You might want to keep 1 burst of radiance..I think it blinds creatures? If something is blind it normally can't make AOO's anyway so that should help with setting up flanks as well (or getting away from stuff)
Luisila |
Yes, The Netherlands ... if that tells you anything.
Natuurlijk! ;)
You might want to keep 1 burst of radiance.
OK, I think I’ll do that.
I could take another shield other instead of a second sound burst..try to spread the damage around a bit?
You make a good point … if you’re happy to share a hit with someone and … channel the following round(?)

That's the plan...off course the plan might blow up in my face if we get hit by fireballs and I end up taking 1 and a half as much damage as someone who has more starting hp's then me ;)
Linnea Joculus |
Sorry everyone. My summer job started this week and going from 10 months behind a desk to racing all over a construction site has taken a toll. Count on me posting more often as my body adjusts to more physical activity.
Professor Snouts Oinkerton |
As a reminder/notice, Thursday (which is today, for reference) continues to be my "kill PCs with pirate-y things" night. We're in book 6, and I just took a day making an 18th level NPC with PC wealth. Fun fact: 530,000 gp is a lot to spend on one man and is extra gross on a Barbarian.

*Confused* "But today's Friday, Professor." ;)
Please don't kill, Sethious!

I ran Severing Ties the other day for a combat-loving party of four Level 2’s.
There will be spoilers … they will be spoilered.
★ Thought the bar games were OK, but were looking for a bar fight
★ Said the Calistrian temple was lame (!!)
★ Steamrolled the reefclaws in 2 rounds AND their best meleer missed the whole thing because he was on his as$ at the base of the Besmaran temple’s stairs
★ The scout triggered the basilisk trap, made his save and warned the others. They tumbled through successfully … but I had their attention.
★ In the SAW room there were two cleric-rogues. The party rolled low to hit while I had the enemy do 1d6 negative channelling. They were worried for a while.
★ After Zynep’s firetrapped barracks, I hit them with the Stone Guardian. Dropped two into negatives in as many rounds. The ranger wasn’t doing much damage and withdrew with a few hp left. The remaining guy held his nerve and made a clutch high roll. If he had missed that roll – it would have been a TPK for sure.
After that … there was laughter, back slaps and joking throughout the rest of the scenario. I stopped ‘GMing’ for a moment every so often and just listened to all the fun they were having.
So … to all my online GMs. Although you can’t hear the laughter, please know I appreciate all the effort you put into running the games for us.

I bet if I had LoS, I'd be able to Counterspell this lady at least once, even without Improved Counterspell.
I'm just happy that I get 100% Secret Monkey Squad that'll either get stuck in Webs or somehow pour out of nowhere for maximum amusement.

No worries, Linn! I’m thinking Tektite’s tied up with GenCon + RL stuff anyway.
School must go back soon too, huh? It’s getting lighter earlier here … summer is not too far away. So that’s something to look forward to. Oh, wait …
Professor Snouts Oinkerton |
I really am still unhappy at the unallowance of the Circlet of Speaking. I know it's to prevent "Avoiding Handle Animal checks" shenanigans, but Snouts would be doubly as fun if he had one.
