Searching the room, the two bodies each possessed mwk studded leather, mwk buckler, brown access card, 2 silverdisks, and 10 gp.

A search of the large machine to the south reveals dozens of fragments of strange, partially completed devices lodged within the machine. One of these items looks useful. While investigating the northwestern desks you discover a white access card that slipped behind a monitor centuries ago.

Maruf searches about through what he determines is mostly junk, as he doesn't recognize anything but the basic armor and such. He does take interest in the white access card though and says, "Excellent! Let's put this to good use. If this doesn't get us through the highest security in this place where we can get the flame restarted, I'll kick something!"

After the Cobbler has rummaged through the items in the room and claimed the card, Richard packs up the armor and bucklers and stows it in his magical haversack.

"Only one door unopened. I guess that's where we should.. uh, Maruf, you're still bleeding. Maybe we should patch you up first?"

Richard digs out a scroll and casts a spell of healing.

I got wanding, too, to save other resources, although Maruf using an extract is probably safer now than later.

"Yeah, I've been askin' Torracha for more lightning since we've explored here. Hope that there's SOMETHING that we can push to get the fire goin, like a button or something..."


After healing and readying yourselves, you head to last unexplored portion of the deck. You find two sets of double doors, both locked, but as if by premonition, Maruf tries to white access card, opeing both sets of doors.

Inside, panels of blinking lights and machinery line the walls of this chamber, but the true spectacle here is the massive machine of metal that looms against the far wall on a ten-foot-high platform. Two immense cylinders of pulsing violet light throb at the machine’s core, while above a thinner cylinder extends through the ceiling. Ladders to the north and south provide access to the machine’s platform, while at the center, a smaller machine with several metal spikes protruding from its heart extends from the larger one. The entire room vibrates with a roaring thunder, and the air feels strangely alive, almost as if it were vibrating as well.

Inside this room is also a robot and a purple-haired woman, circuitry traces faintly scrawled across her flesh. She turns as you enter and draws a pistol-like weapon. "Don't come any further." She says flatly. As if to accentuate her point, she casts a spell, creating a clap of thunder around the party!

Maruf finds the burst of sound comforting and not even as loud as his voice! Tossing a bomb, he hits the robot, sending puff of smoking rolling out of its metal exterior.

"Please stop!" Richard begs the woman. Though he knows how hard it can be to get through to most androids on an emotional level, he can't help but try. Even Alpha, who is an ally, seems intent on dealing with her in a lethal way, so the best he can hope for is to disable her before that happens.

Taking aim again, he fires another pulse from his stungun. However, in sterling himself against her negative energy he tenses up and jerks the trigger erratically.

@Kharax: I wondered that myself, but I don't see anything in the channel description that says it requires a somatic or material component, and the pinned condition only mentions spells and SLAs as requiring a concentration check, so I'd say, yes, you can channel while pinned.

First off, level up to 4!

Alpha and Richard discuss the working of this room and come up with its probable intent. While talking, Richard remembers the android woman muttering the name Hellion when she was channeling energy.

This is a reactor and its integrated power transmitter They are a priceless, immobile technological artifact. The reactor appears to only be working at half power, and a fraction of that power is being siphoned off to somewhere near Scarwall. In its currently activated state and damaged condition, it could potentially explode, leveleing Torch and scorching the lands around it.

This event can be avoided by resetting the reactor’s fail-safe and putting it back into dormancy. There’s a very small chance every time the reactor takes some damage that its safety protocols automatically kick in to trigger the fail-safe.

The simplest way to engage the fail-safe is to deactivate the power transmitter built into the side of the reactor. Destroying the power transmitter works, but each time the device takes damage, it will likely blast a 5-foot radius around it with electricity.

A safer method is to deactivate it is to disable the transmitter as if disabling a lock, though it would appear to be a very complex task. Fortunately, partial instructions to disarm the transmitter
and engage the fail-safe appear on the device’s damaged monitors written in Androffan,

Richard reads over the androffan instructions. "I think I understand enough of this to figure out the fail-safe. Maruf, watch for any surges or sparks while I work the controls."

Activating Luck twice 6/7 uses. Ive got masterwork tools, but I don't know that they apply here. Add +2 if they do.

After a couple tries and rereading the instructions, Richard and Maruf are able to deactivate the transmitter and reset the fail-safe, right before Maruf was about to start clawing it pieces!

As the fail-safe restarts, you can hear a dull roar above you. Leaving the complex, you see the fire has restarted!

Returning to Torch, the town council gratefully rewards the party for your actions, with thanks and the promised reward of 4,000 gp. Word of your triumph spreads through town quickly, and you soon find that paying for drinks or rooms is unnecessary—at least for a few weeks. It’ll still be some time before Torch is on its feet again, though.

After some further investigation, you find your time in the town is drawing to a close, for Meyanda, the android, was nothing more than a pawn of a greater enemy. The mysterious Hellion still dwells in Scrapwall, and Torch’s leaders fear that if nothing is done to defeat this so called Lord of Rust, it is only a matter of time before its attentions turn to the town once again!

Once more, the town asks for the heroes of Torch to intervene.

And that finishes Book 1. Of course, Additional Resources has been updated and no chronicles....

I'll look for a replacement for Maruf and hopefully we can't continue with much pause.

Thank you for the game so far :) Nice to play a far different PC than my norm; my weakest area is arcane casters.

This is also a great bit of downtime if you need me to start crafting stuff! I can make Wondrous Items and craft non-magical weapons and armor which we can enchant later, saving some of the cost at least.

Maruf snorts in surprise as he hears the flames roar back to life above. "Well! HHRRRYYYYKKKK! I guess that means the economy will be turning back around. Time to set up shop and settle down."

While meeting with the council Maruf stays quiet until the end when he asks for a spare shop-front as his only reward, leaving the gold to his companions. "Should you need your shoes cobbled, you know where to come. And I'll keep the potions brewing for when you lot nearly get yourselves killed. HHRRRYYYYAAAAAKKKKKK!!"

With that, the hunched tiefling stalks away to set off on his new journey of setting up a quiet life in Torch away from his dreaded wife.

Thanks a lot for the good times everyone! I really love Maruf and hate to put him to rest but maybe I will resurrect him some day for another campaign if I get the chance. I hope he provided some entertainment along the way. And thanks to the GM for getting us this far! Good luck to you all on finishing the AP! I will stick around for a few more days before hiding the campaign from my tab.
