Are there any penalties/consequences to attacking the dolls because they are in the same space as Silas?

Velika moves into the dining room toward Dain, "So, no ... " but she is interrupted by Dain's shout and continues to follow him into the next room.
Oh! How cute! Silas is playing with dolls!"
She continues to move more slowly into the Boudoir, trying to avoid the feeble attacks of the statues.

Holys moves toward the disturbance, furrowing his brow in momentary confusion at the strangeness of the sight.

Will check in a couple of times today in case we get another round in, otherwise that may be it from me until January 4th. Will try and check in in the interim if possible.

Silas turns to the two attacking Velika and slashes at one with his blade while snapping at the other.

Silas easily slashes one of the tiny dolls off of Velika.

Trying to free Velika up, Dain stabs at the remaining doll that is harassing her.

Both Dain and Tilver destroy one of the little dolls.

Velika takes a five foot step back and shoots at one of the dolls on Silas.

Velika's arrow destroys one of the maddened little dolls. In a last ditch effort, the dolls claw at Silas and Dain's eyes, all the while emitting a faint high-pitched keening.

Silas snaps at the one hovering around him and slashes at the one darting around Dain.

Tilver moves into the room and tries to knock the doll off of Silas. "These are creepy little animated objects, nothing more!"

Silas and Dain destroy the dolls climbing on each other!

Silas rubs his hand over the place where one managed to bite him. "That was...unexpected. I am not sure what it took to make so many of these little creatures, but I question the value."

"I guess they made ok watch dogs -i doubt there's anything in this house that didn't hear that noise they were making." Dain waves Silas over, "Let me examine your wound, just to make sure it wasn't poisoned or diseased."

It's just a scratch.

Velika will cast Detect Magic and look around the room.

Dain peers intently at the scratch on Silas' forearm, then mutters a quick spell. "Hmmm...the spirits say the wound is clean." He looks around the room, "Let's see if these vicious watch dolls were guarding anything."

Dain and Magill proceed to search through the room thouroughly - looking under the beds and behind the old tapestries on the walls.

Cast Detect Poison on Silas; search room

Perception - negative level: 1d20 + 12 - 1 ⇒ (5) + 12 - 1 = 16

Turns out this room is empty save for the animated dolls.

It's worth noting that the spiral staircase in the other room continues upwards. As does the ladder in the turret.

There is a change in the air. The house's hot and stifling atmosphere is replaced by a chilly breeze. A deep male voice sounds somewhere in the house. “I must feed….”

"That sounds...ominous." Silas begins moving towards the door and says, "Do we want to use the stairwell or the ladder?"

"I admit I'm intrigued by the ladder."

Tilver looks around the room for a moment as the voice speaks. "Oook, what the hell was that? Where did it come from?" He grips his spear tightly.

"Hello! Who are you?" he yells out.

He sighs and nods towards the stairs. "Let's take the staircaae. If something is up there waiting to feed, I want to be able to hold a weapon."

Silas nods at Tilver, "You can climb the stairs later. Being armed if there is something here ready to feed on us makes sense. I think that it will let us into the tower without needing to go up the ladder though." Silas turns and heads up the staircase to the third floor.

Silas and Tilver ascend the stairs, Dain, Velika and Holys following behind. The odd-shaped room in the northwest corner of this level is filled with overturned furniture— tables, chairs, divans, braziers, and more. Broken bits of crockery and various utensils and items lie scattered across the floor. A heavy purple curtain blanketed with mold and mildew covers the exit to the south. An iron spiral staircase leads
down to the floors below.

The room is also filled with rats, both normal and dire. They scurry about the refuse and disarray, but attack en masse. One of the dire rats is blood red with a mane of grasping tendrils around its head.

The rats are quick and swarm forward to attack!

Note that Tilver's only access to the room is through Silas and those below cannot come up while Silas and Tilver are on the stairs (the spiral staircase is too narrow to allow the usual movement through another's square.)

Silas attacks the dire rat next to Dain to free up his longspear and then steps a bit further into the room.

Silas's falchion sweeps down in a single arc, severing the huge rat's head from its shoulders.

Tilver, go!

Tilver jabs his spear at the rat near Silas. He quickly moves towards it, yelling at the others. "Hurry, get up here!"

Attacking the different rat directly south of Tilver, then 5 foot step towards it.

Tilver's attack is a feint only, allowing him to move up to the top of the stairs.

The rats swarm forward, biting and clawing. The strange tentacled rat hisses at Silas and throws itself forward, but is the great mass of creeping rats that do the real damage.

Velika hears the clash of weapons and immediately starts to sing an encouraging song. Unable to do more to help this round, she moves down to make room for Holys to get by her on the stairs.

Gripping his spear in both hands, Dain hurries up the stairs, wading into the mass of rats and stabbing at the largest one in range.

Okay, then it's rat B that's injured.

Silas tears into the swarming rats around him.

Dain hops off the rat covered stairs. He lands on a clear spot of floor and lunges at one of the large rats.

Silas fights the many rats around him, a snarling, hissing ball of fur and claws. Dain steps back and impales one of the larger rats, killing it instantly.

Holys begins to chant, little wisps of flame forming around his fingertips. "Tilver! Run! Back up!"

Waiting for Tilver to move before calling the boom.

Hearing the warning, Tilver quickly backs away, using his spear to avoid any attacks.

Withdraw towards the corner.

Continuing to sing, Velika moves up the stairs to stand behind Holys.

Holys Concentration check (DC 17) and: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9

The sorcerer has no opportunity to back up... if he does, he'll be down the stairs and not have line of sight. He tries to cast burning hands, but a rat crawls across his face at just that moment, and he shakes with revulsion, ruining the spell!

The spell ruined, he backs down the stairs to get away from the rats.
