This is where we can discuss things out of character.

Male Half Elf Oracle 4 (Streets) - HP 27/27 - AC: 18 / T: 13 / FF: 16 - F: +2 / R: +3 / W: +6 - CMB: +4 - CMD: 16, Speed: 20, Init. +2 - Perception +10 (+12 w/ familiar)

I just read the sidebar on page 10 of the Ptolus player's guide that talks about Imperial Identification Papers. Do we all automatically have these?

Half-elf Fighter 1/Lamplighter Investigator 3 [hp 30/30; F+4, R+5, W+5 (+2 vs. enchantment) | AC 19/12/17 | Init +3+1d6 | Perception +8, Sense Motive +6; Low-light vision] [Inspiration remaining: 4/5]

I just realized Tilver has the ability to use inspiration for free on his initiative checks. I've added it to his stat line/sheet (Init: +3+1d6), but I thought I would highlight it here for our good GM.

Dain Slumsaint wrote:

Yes. As natives of Ptolus, you all have papers.

Tilver Arnholm wrote:

Interesting. I'll look that up later, but good to know.

Female Gnome Bard 4 - HP 30/30 - AC 18/T: 14/FF:15 - Perception +2 - F: +2/ R: +7/ W: +4 (+2 vs. Illusion) - CMB: +2 - CMD: 15, Speed: 20, Init. +5, Perception +2, Sense Motive +10

Looking around at the Paizo site it seems that the general feeling is that a bard can cast spells with verbal components while maintaining a bardic performance. But it doesn't seem to be explicitly spelled out in the rules. What is your opinion on this, Scott?

Yes, I agree. It would be a poor character otherwise.

Male Litorian Bloodrager 4 (Steelbood- Silver Draconic Bloodline) - HP 39/40 ,- AC 22/T: 12/FF: 20 - F: +7 R: +4 W: +3* - CMB: +7 - CMD: 20, Speed: 25, Init. +2, - Perception +7 Scent; Rage 7/11

So I guess it would be good to know is Tilver skilled at dealing with traps? I went with the Bloodrager and currently it is not his forte. I can work on improving that when we level if needed.

Male Half Elf Oracle 4 (Streets) - HP 27/27 - AC: 18 / T: 13 / FF: 16 - F: +2 / R: +3 / W: +6 - CMB: +4 - CMD: 16, Speed: 20, Init. +2 - Perception +10 (+12 w/ familiar)

Yeah, it looks like he has a slightly better Perception than Silas, but he has the Trapfinder class trait and a pretty good Disable Device too (you can click on a character name or portrait and see the character sheet).

So Tilver has that angle covered.

Male Litorian Bloodrager 4 (Steelbood- Silver Draconic Bloodline) - HP 39/40 ,- AC 22/T: 12/FF: 20 - F: +7 R: +4 W: +3* - CMB: +7 - CMD: 20, Speed: 25, Init. +2, - Perception +7 Scent; Rage 7/11

Yeah, I thought of that and actually looked myself after I posted. It might be good for him to check things if we think it will be trapped. Especially as I lack the ability to find magical traps.

Female Gnome Bard 4 - HP 30/30 - AC 18/T: 14/FF:15 - Perception +2 - F: +2/ R: +7/ W: +4 (+2 vs. Illusion) - CMB: +2 - CMD: 15, Speed: 20, Init. +5, Perception +2, Sense Motive +10

So, I had rearranged some skills when we got our background skill points and I added Know (Religion) - but I realized that I didn't update my sheet (just saw that when I went to make this recent roll).
Scott, let me know if you want me to not use it for this encounter/adventure/whatever since it's kind of 11th hour to let you know about it.

Nope that's fine. Nobody gets screwed over a clerical error.

I'm a GM... you get screwed for no reason at all. :-)

Male Human Sorceror (Gold Dragonic) 4; - HP 26/26 ,- AC 13/T: 12/FF: 11 - F: +5 R: +4/ W: +5 - CMB: +2 - CMD: 14, Speed: 30, Init. +8*, - Perception +7

As a bit of advance notice: I'll be overseas from Dec 27-Jan 3 inclusive, and it is probably that I won't have reliable internet access during that period. I'll check in if I can.

Male Human Sorceror (Gold Dragonic) 4; - HP 26/26 ,- AC 13/T: 12/FF: 11 - F: +5 R: +4/ W: +5 - CMB: +2 - CMD: 14, Speed: 30, Init. +8*, - Perception +7

Back finally, will try to post tonight and if not then tomorrow. Happy new year all!

Please excuse a slowdown for a few days. My mother-in-law is in the hospital recovering from heart surgery and with my wife at the hospital, I am attending the kids full time in the evenings.

Male Human Sorceror (Gold Dragonic) 4; - HP 26/26 ,- AC 13/T: 12/FF: 11 - F: +5 R: +4/ W: +5 - CMB: +2 - CMD: 14, Speed: 30, Init. +8*, - Perception +7

Thinking of you all. I hope she has a smooth recovery.

If there's something I can do to help, like do a grocery store run for you, please let me know!

Half-elf Fighter 1/Lamplighter Investigator 3 [hp 30/30; F+4, R+5, W+5 (+2 vs. enchantment) | AC 19/12/17 | Init +3+1d6 | Perception +8, Sense Motive +6; Low-light vision] [Inspiration remaining: 4/5]

I'll be traveling for the next two weeks. I should be able to post daily from the hotel with few distractions, but just a heads up if you don't hear from me.

Have fun gallivanting on Uncle Sam's dime!

Male Human Sorceror (Gold Dragonic) 4; - HP 26/26 ,- AC 13/T: 12/FF: 11 - F: +5 R: +4/ W: +5 - CMB: +2 - CMD: 14, Speed: 30, Init. +8*, - Perception +7

I'll also be away from Thursday 19 until Fri 27/possibly Sun 29. Will try and check in if I can but not sure if I'll be able to.

Enjoy!

Half-elf Fighter 1/Lamplighter Investigator 3 [hp 30/30; F+4, R+5, W+5 (+2 vs. enchantment) | AC 19/12/17 | Init +3+1d6 | Perception +8, Sense Motive +6; Low-light vision] [Inspiration remaining: 4/5]

Traveling today and tomorrow. Please run Tilvaer as needed

Female Gnome Bard 4 - HP 30/30 - AC 18/T: 14/FF:15 - Perception +2 - F: +2/ R: +7/ W: +4 (+2 vs. Illusion) - CMB: +2 - CMD: 15, Speed: 20, Init. +5, Perception +2, Sense Motive +10

Sorry I was MIA for a while there. Was a bit under the weather but am better now!

Male Human Sorceror (Gold Dragonic) 4; - HP 26/26 ,- AC 13/T: 12/FF: 11 - F: +5 R: +4/ W: +5 - CMB: +2 - CMD: 14, Speed: 30, Init. +8*, - Perception +7

I'm back on the East Coast now, will catch up with the game play later today! (Note I won't be able to make it tomorrow for Iron Gods, Tarondor, not sure if you were intending on playing. Will be back to normal schedule for next session.)

Female Gnome Bard 4 - HP 30/30 - AC 18/T: 14/FF:15 - Perception +2 - F: +2/ R: +7/ W: +4 (+2 vs. Illusion) - CMB: +2 - CMD: 15, Speed: 20, Init. +5, Perception +2, Sense Motive +10

I made a "Party Storage" button on Velika's profile that shows what party treasure I've put in the bag of holding. Just wanted to let people know so they could reference it when desired.

Male Human Sorceror (Gold Dragonic) 4; - HP 26/26 ,- AC 13/T: 12/FF: 11 - F: +5 R: +4/ W: +5 - CMB: +2 - CMD: 14, Speed: 30, Init. +8*, - Perception +7

Thanks for keeping track! I appreciate it. That's a good idea.

Half-elf Fighter 1/Lamplighter Investigator 3 [hp 30/30; F+4, R+5, W+5 (+2 vs. enchantment) | AC 19/12/17 | Init +3+1d6 | Perception +8, Sense Motive +6; Low-light vision] [Inspiration remaining: 4/5]

I'm heading out tomorrow on a week long trip. I don't expect to be able to post. I'll see you guys later!

Male Half Elf Oracle 4 (Streets) - HP 27/27 - AC: 18 / T: 13 / FF: 16 - F: +2 / R: +3 / W: +6 - CMB: +4 - CMD: 16, Speed: 20, Init. +2 - Perception +10 (+12 w/ familiar)

Have fun!

re: The Cobbledman

Phew, what a fight! For what it's worth, the previous group I played with talked their way past the Cobbledman. I know you tried. I seem to recall someone rolling "20" on a Diplomacy check back then.

He was -slightly- enhanced to make up for your numbers (and how much more deadly Pathfinder characters are than 3rd Edition characters), but Tilver's (and Velika's!) crit would have ended him either way.

Male Litorian Bloodrager 4 (Steelbood- Silver Draconic Bloodline) - HP 39/40 ,- AC 22/T: 12/FF: 20 - F: +7 R: +4 W: +3* - CMB: +7 - CMD: 20, Speed: 25, Init. +2, - Perception +7 Scent; Rage 7/11

He definitely hit hard. That opening crit was a bit worrisome.

Half-elf Fighter 1/Lamplighter Investigator 3 [hp 30/30; F+4, R+5, W+5 (+2 vs. enchantment) | AC 19/12/17 | Init +3+1d6 | Perception +8, Sense Motive +6; Low-light vision] [Inspiration remaining: 4/5]

That's right, we made him a friend, though i don't remember him being so monstrous with two heads. I didn't realize that he wasn't supposed to be a social encounter.

Definitely scary. I really didn't want to use my last 2nd level spell on another Cure Moderate Wounds (I have other spells, really!), but after that crit it seemed necessary.

Male Litorian Bloodrager 4 (Steelbood- Silver Draconic Bloodline) - HP 39/40 ,- AC 22/T: 12/FF: 20 - F: +7 R: +4 W: +3* - CMB: +7 - CMD: 20, Speed: 25, Init. +2, - Perception +7 Scent; Rage 7/11

It didn't seem like something that we could talk by to me. Interesting that he can be reasoned with.

Male Human Sorceror (Gold Dragonic) 4; - HP 26/26 ,- AC 13/T: 12/FF: 11 - F: +5 R: +4/ W: +5 - CMB: +2 - CMD: 14, Speed: 30, Init. +8*, - Perception +7

Likewise!

He wasn't evil. He's essentially Frankenstein's monster. There is a clue to this in Maquent's journal. He's enraged when anyone gets on the bridge, so you have a very tiny window for diplomacy and need to roll well. I think 95% of encounters with the Cobbledman would go the way this one did.

Male Human Sorceror (Gold Dragonic) 4; - HP 26/26 ,- AC 13/T: 12/FF: 11 - F: +5 R: +4/ W: +5 - CMB: +2 - CMD: 14, Speed: 30, Init. +8*, - Perception +7

Hi all: crazy time at work and some issues here, may be intermittent for the next couple of days.

I owe everyone an apology for my slow posting. Personal issues plus tax time mean I'm very busy. I'll get back at it tomorrow.

Male Litorian Bloodrager 4 (Steelbood- Silver Draconic Bloodline) - HP 39/40 ,- AC 22/T: 12/FF: 20 - F: +7 R: +4 W: +3* - CMB: +7 - CMD: 20, Speed: 25, Init. +2, - Perception +7 Scent; Rage 7/11

Life happens. Hopefully nothing too painful happened with the personal issues.

Male Human Sorceror (Gold Dragonic) 4; - HP 26/26 ,- AC 13/T: 12/FF: 11 - F: +5 R: +4/ W: +5 - CMB: +2 - CMD: 14, Speed: 30, Init. +8*, - Perception +7

I agree; take care and I hope all works out ok.

Male Human Sorceror (Gold Dragonic) 4; - HP 26/26 ,- AC 13/T: 12/FF: 11 - F: +5 R: +4/ W: +5 - CMB: +2 - CMD: 14, Speed: 30, Init. +8*, - Perception +7

Holys attempts to cast Vanish defensively:

Concentration: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15 (+4 level, +4 CHA) vs. DC 17:

Failed so spell fizzles.

No move action.

Spells remaining/total:
2nd (2/4)—scorching ray
1st (2/7)—burning hands (DC 17), mage armor , protection from evil, ray of enfeeblement (DC 15), vanish
0th (at will) —acid splash, arcane mark , detect magic , flare (DC 16), light, open/close (DC 14), prestidigitation, read magic, resistance

Male Human Sorceror (Gold Dragonic) 4; - HP 26/26 ,- AC 13/T: 12/FF: 11 - F: +5 R: +4/ W: +5 - CMB: +2 - CMD: 14, Speed: 30, Init. +8*, - Perception +7

As a heads-up, I will be away from next Sat 22 March to Sun 7 May inclusive. I probably won't be able to post, though I'll check in if I can.

Male Human Sorceror (Gold Dragonic) 4; - HP 26/26 ,- AC 13/T: 12/FF: 11 - F: +5 R: +4/ W: +5 - CMB: +2 - CMD: 14, Speed: 30, Init. +8*, - Perception +7

(Reminder I'll probably be absent from tomorrow. I think we should probably flee this encounter.)

Male Half Elf Oracle 4 (Streets) - HP 27/27 - AC: 18 / T: 13 / FF: 16 - F: +2 / R: +3 / W: +6 - CMB: +4 - CMD: 16, Speed: 20, Init. +2 - Perception +10 (+12 w/ familiar)

Well, since we are trapped in this house, fleeing won't be an option unless goat-head's movements are restricted in some way.

Male Human Sorceror (Gold Dragonic) 4; - HP 26/26 ,- AC 13/T: 12/FF: 11 - F: +5 R: +4/ W: +5 - CMB: +2 - CMD: 14, Speed: 30, Init. +8*, - Perception +7

I am hoping they are!

Female Gnome Bard 4 - HP 30/30 - AC 18/T: 14/FF:15 - Perception +2 - F: +2/ R: +7/ W: +4 (+2 vs. Illusion) - CMB: +2 - CMD: 15, Speed: 20, Init. +5, Perception +2, Sense Motive +10

I don't think we can flee. But if it helps, I always have several new character ideas (I love making new characters!) so if you guys want to use me as a meat shield, I'll take it for the team! :)

Male Litorian Bloodrager 4 (Steelbood- Silver Draconic Bloodline) - HP 39/40 ,- AC 22/T: 12/FF: 20 - F: +7 R: +4 W: +3* - CMB: +7 - CMD: 20, Speed: 25, Init. +2, - Perception +7 Scent; Rage 7/11

Silas would be highly opposed to using Velika as a meat shield.

And to slightly change one of the greatest quotes of all time,"We have not yet begun to fight!"

I didn't know you had so few magical weapons. Well, no punches shall be pulled. Fight on!

I found an old discussion from Monte Cook's boards in 2007 where some guy named Tarondor said:

Tarondor wrote:

My 4th-level party is exploring Pythoness House. Tomorrow, they will probably encounter the Rhodintor. This thing is CR7! It will almost certainly kill them all. At the very least, it will kill most of them.

Was this not a TPK for everyone?

It wasn't, but I note that I had five players back then and the rhodintor took two of them down (but not out), and everyone used Hero Points like water. So... maybe use 'em? Or run?

Female Gnome Bard 4 - HP 30/30 - AC 18/T: 14/FF:15 - Perception +2 - F: +2/ R: +7/ W: +4 (+2 vs. Illusion) - CMB: +2 - CMD: 15, Speed: 20, Init. +5, Perception +2, Sense Motive +10

We have hero points?!?

Velika Wondercraft wrote:

I can't seem to find where I listed the character creation stuff. Anyone know? I think I was planning on NOT having Hero Points, but this reminds me of just how much they're needed in Ptolus.

So, yes! Everyone has two. Go nuts!

Male Litorian Bloodrager 4 (Steelbood- Silver Draconic Bloodline) - HP 39/40 ,- AC 22/T: 12/FF: 20 - F: +7 R: +4 W: +3* - CMB: +7 - CMD: 20, Speed: 25, Init. +2, - Perception +7 Scent; Rage 7/11

I am pretty sure we didn't have them at the start. But I will happily use them.

Fun Ptolus Hero Points story. Tim (Tilver) played in my first face-to-face Ptolus game. At some point in the Banewarrens, his character ran up against a fire giant who hit him hard enough to kill him. He spent two hero points to avoid death. So I ruled that instead, the giant had merely severed his sword arm.

So this seems like it might be a real setback for a martial character, but a few weeks later, the faction of angels to whom the team was allied contacted the character. One of the holiest of their angels had been killed ages before and only his arm survived. They offered to graft the angel's arm onto Tim's character in exchange for handling some small matters the angels didn't want to touch...
