Perfire Ridal |
Perfire mumbles in his sleep 'No... no... not spiders again'
Lilika |
Lilika hurries over to the secret door and readies an action to stab whoever comes through it...
Readied Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22

Extra Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
How many acid darts did she end up using to kill the skeleton? Or did it take all five?
GM Tarondor |
She destroyed it with the first blast.
The door slides open revealing only darkness, but in the half-light from her own party's torches, the half-elf can see three skeletal figures with swords and shields as well as a darker, shadowy man-like figure beyond.
"Slay them, my slaves," says a voice that feels like rancid oil sliding down your spine. "Slay them for our lord Klarkosh!"
Lilika stabs out with her dagger, ramming it home into the breastbone of one skeleton. Its eyeless skull turns to face her and the its brethren pile through the door.

The shadowy figure waves its hands and utters a spell of doom!
Lilika, give me a DC 15 Will save. And, for the sake of the campaign, I hope you succeed!
Perfire, you need to succeed at a DC 10 Perception check to wake up!
Perfire Ridal |
Perfire starts awake at the shadowy figure's command to it's minions. Seeing Lilika engaged with a number of bony foes, he calls upon his reservoirs of arcane energy and focuses it at the feet of the skeletons.
grease underneath the skeletons and the two squares behind them. DC 15 Reflex
Lilika |
Will Save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25
Shaking off the effects of whatever foul spell the man hurled at her, Lilika opened up her mouth and screamed: "ENEMIES! WAKE UP!"
Wymond Dwerryhouse |
Wymond is already out like a light after helping the party finish setting up camp, snoring like a sawmill. But when Lilika screams for help, Triath is already awake and nudging him to get him up. Not wanting a repeat of what had happened the last time they'd camped in this place, he'd fallen asleep in his armor, and when he awakes, he grabs his bardiche and begins to hustle over to the skeletons.
I assume my getting up and getting over there will consume the duration of my turn?
GM Tarondor |
Wymond, sleeping in medium armor means you don't gain the benefits of rest. Unless previously stated, "sleep" means sleeping in light armor or no armor. Also, you'll still need a Perception check on your turn to wake up.
Lilika feels her muscles tense up, but she overcomes the paralysis and continues to move. Slippery ectoplasm oozes up from the ground and two of the skeletons crash to the floor.
Skeleton B, Reflex: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (10) + 0 = 10
Skeleton C, Reflex: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (3) + 0 = 3
Wymond, Triath and Yirrik, give me DC 10 Perception checks. Then go! Lilika, too!
Wymond Dwerryhouse |
Should I retcon it and say he took off his armor, or just go without rest for this? So far we're two for two on times we've camped in the Spire where we've been attacked.

"huh? Wha? " Yirrik mutters, before the meaningo of Lilika's shout penetrates the fog of spidery dreams that had been filling Yirrik's head.
Sitting up , he flings off his bedroll and leaps to his feet, snatching up his sword and axe.
Wymond Dwerryhouse |
So Triath and me have woken up, but should I start without armor or without rest?
GM Tarondor |
Wymond: Over time, you'll get attacked a lot in the Spire, at least when you haven't cleared out an actively hostile level. Probably a good reason to find a secure shelter when you can. Maybe you'll have to retreat out when you sleep or accept the occasional combat in your undies.
It's a megadungeon - some situations are gonna come up!
For now, let's assume you were actually trying for some rest (otherwise why stop?) and are not in your armor.
_____________________________________________________________________
As Lilika battles skeletons, her companions snort into wakefulness.
Wymond, Triath, go!
Wymond Dwerryhouse |
Thanks for the clarification! Though I'm at least wearing clothes under the armor. ;)
Wymond grabs his bardiche and begins shuffling over to the ambushing undead, Triath scuttling after him.
I can double-move around the cage, correct? Since I'm not in armor, I can move at full speed!
GM Tarondor |

You go with your mental visuals, I'll go with mine. I'm picturing fuzzy socks and boxers with red hearts. :-)

Yes and no. Arming yourself is a standard action. Rising from prone is a move action. And you're done.
GM Tarondor |
The figure in the shadows intones a spell in some unearthly tongue and summons a ghostly bastard sword, the ectoplasmic twin of the one he carries, which floats over Perfire's head and slices down to attack, smashing into the little sorcerer's shoulder with great force!

Perfire feebly attempts to fend off the floating sword's strikes with his arms as he gets to his feet. He ducks low as he scrambles to the corner of the room, away from the weapon, doing his best to dodge.
'Help!' He shouts, knowing his friends are probably already springing into action.
Yirrik Roone |
Yirrik takes in the skeletons scrabbling about on the ground, then Perfire's plea brings his attention around to the halfling.
"Coming!" he exlaims , then runs over to engage the phantom sword.

Sure, go!
Sorry, Yirrik! Not your turn yet! But I'll process your turn right after the skeletons.

The skeletons don't bother trying to rise and just keep attacking Lilika, not capable of knowing or caring how it hampers their attacks. The druidess gamely deflects or dodges all their attacks. Meanwhile, Perfire's blade rings off the eldritch flying weapon and he learns he can neither damage nor thwart the spiritual weapon.

Triath, meanwhile, moves over to Perfire and makes some sort of muffled grunt before his snout starts glowing and he nuzzles it against Perfire.
Triath uses lay on paws on Perfire, which spends 2 uses of my lay on hands.

GM Tarondor |
The skeletons are prone, and thus have a -4 AC to melee attacks. Thus, Wymond's attack is enough to hit.
As Lilika continues her desperate defense against the crawling skeletons, Wymond rushes forward and slams his bardiche down , severing one skeleton's spine. With a sigh, the bones settle into the grease, unmoving.
Triath squeals, moving forward to nuzzle Perfire's hip with his snout. Strangely, the sorcerer feels a blessed warmth spread across his body, soothing his injuries.
The shadowy figure lowers a mailed fist to point at Wymond and intones a blasphemous curse, causing the paladin's ears to ring and his eyes to water.
Meanwhile, the glowing sword slices down, nearly killing Perfire!

Should put me at 3 hitpoints? ouch indeed, that spiritual weapon has it out for me.
Perfire lets out a small, weak grunt as the magical blade cuts into him again. Sadly, the addled paladin strikes his own ally Yirrik. Luckily, the blow is wildly telegraphed and Yirrik manages to roll with it, taking little damage. Wymond's fuzzy head clears as suddenly as it clouded, leaving him with he results of his attack.

GM Tarondor |
Like Lilika, Yirrik is armed with a shortsword. It does no damage to the skeleton.
Yirrik's blade slides right through the skeleton's ribcage, sliding off its ribs.
The dark and alien presence in the northern hallway raises a shadowed hand to point at Yirrik. "Flee," it says, its voice a sepulchral rasp.
Yirrik, give me a DC 14 Will save.

He then backs up, and turns around and begins to run away....
Perfire Ridal |
Perfire steps forward and offer Wyomond his small club. 'Try this?'
Wymond Dwerryhouse |

Lilika's sudden change of tactics tears the skeleton to pieces, leaving a blast shadow on the wall behind it and dripping bits of bone piled against the wall.
Into that hell of acid steps the shadowed Master, its face revealed in the eerie emerald reflections of light bouncing off the Emerald Spire. It is a skeleton itself, dressed in ancient finery. "You are strong," it concedes, its hollow voice tolling like a drowned bell.
"It will be my honor to destroy you." With that, its eye sockets blaze with an unholy light filling each of you with an unnatural fear.
