Kramac |
you rolled a d12 forr thee confirmation rooll, not a d20
Flyndyngylyn |
Argh! I fat-finger a lot when I post from my phone, but must've really had a brain fart there. Thanks!
Confirm: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (9) + 11 = 20
GM supervillan |
Flyn, you can only fire two arrows on a full attack, which will restrict you to a 5' step. Do you prefer to full attack, or move and shoot once?
Flyndyngylyn |
Argh again! Sorry, had yet another brain fart. 5' step and full attack...fixed my position on the map...
GM supervillan |
Crit does not confirm. Too much cover.
Carrick evades a shadow-trap and shouts a challenge at Arastrax.
Flyn launches more cold iron arrows, and the prone babau demon dissolves into an acidic puddle.

Dorje gracefully mounts the stage, and strikes the babau. Unfortunately, he does not harm the demon, and his fist is coated in the monster's acidic slime. Dorje reflex save vs slime: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14
Dorje suffers acid damage: 1d8 ⇒ 5
Round 3
Qatala closes in on the prone figure of Arastrax.

GM supervillan |
Kuuma hops onto the stage and bites Arastrax around the throat, giving him a shake. Arastrax chuckles, then blood bubbles up out of his mouth, he chokes and goes limp and quiet.
Carrick is up.
Carrick Castermill |
Carrick rushes onto the stage, smiting the last babau with Iomedea’s holy power and takes a mighty swing.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
Mw. Longsword + Smite Evil - Power Attack v. Purple: 1d20 + 10 + 4 - 2 ⇒ (3) + 10 + 4 - 2 = 15

Move to move; swift Smite Evil; Standard attack
GM supervillan |
Carrick mounts the stage and lunges at the babau, but he is off-balance after his jump and his lunge goes wide.
Kramac I've positioned you on the ground, rather than up on the table, since you didn't attempt a jump or climb check. These checks are easy, if you want to make one, but you are wearing full-plate (albeit mithral).
'Arastrax' bleeds, his blood pooling and running through cracks in the stage. The blood looks oddly dark...
And then, something emerges from underneath the stage, next to Carrick. A winged shadow, possessing teeth and claws. "A-hahahahahaha! You cannot kill me! Arastrax of the Onyx Alliance is immortal!" The cold voice echoes in all of your heads.
Arastrax bites at Carrick: bite, flank, vs touch: 1d20 + 11 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 11 + 2 = 22damage: 1d8 + 1d6 ⇒ (4) + (1) = 5 The second die is cold damage.

Damage (Magic, Cold Iron, Ghost Salt): 1d8 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16
GM supervillan |
Nice move Flyn.
Flyn switches target to the shadow-creature. His two arrows tear through the monster, dragging pieces of shadow with them. Full damage.
The monks are do less well. Qatala, I moved you 5' on the map so you could full attack per your post. Although Qatala's chain whip lashes through the shadow time and time again, it has no effect. Incorporeal halves damage from magic, and then the creature has DR. Dorje's fists are equally ineffective.
Round 4
The babau tries to destroy Carrick!
purple bite vs Carrick, flank: 1d20 + 12 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 12 + 2 = 26damage, sneak attack: 1d6 + 5 + 2d6 ⇒ (2) + 5 + (2, 3) = 12 hit

Kramac has Cold Iron weapons...does anyone else besides he and I?
Dorje Wangchuk |
I don't have it.
Kramac |
Carrick has smite evil, which lets him overcome the DR. So... technically no, but he can overcome the DR.
Kramac will direct Kuuma to shift and make room for him on the stage, then leap up to join the fight.
acrobatics, grand lodge objective sheet boon, ignores armor check penalty: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 6 + 2 = 28
Knowledge Planes, Monster Lore: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 5 + 2 = 9
Once deftly mounting the stage Kramac will attack the remaining Babau with his cold iron double chicken saber.
Attack, outflank, divine favor, power attack: 1d20 + 10 + 4 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (20) + 10 + 4 + 2 - 2 = 34

Damage, sneak attack, divine favor, power attack: 1d6 + 5 + 1d6 + 2 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 5 + (2) + 2 + 4 = 19
Crit will provoke from Kuuma, which then gives him an AoO from paired opportunist.
Attack, Paired Opportunist AoO, outflank, divine favor, power attack, paired opportunist AoO: 1d20 + 10 + 4 + 2 - 2 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 10 + 4 + 2 - 2 + 4 = 28
Damage, sneak attack, divine favor, power attack: 1d6 + 5 + 1d6 + 2 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 5 + (5) + 2 + 4 = 19
Kuumaa |
Kuuma shifts to the north, then bites the Babau once Kramac is in position.

trip!, outflank, power attack: 1d20 + 8 + 4 - 2 ⇒ (19) + 8 + 4 - 2 = 29
Kramacs critical strike throws the Babau off balance, allowing Kuuma the opportunity to get another bite in against the now prone demon.

Carrick Castermill |
Standing by to see if Kramac + Kuumaa drop the babau before posting, cause what I do will be different depending on what happens.
Carrick Castermill |
Excellent!
Good work Kramac, Kuuma! Nice shooting Flyn! Carrick shouts as he carefully retreats from harms way, not wanting to let on how badly hurt he is. He lays on hands on himself to bolster his strength.
Quickly, I have oils! Bless Weapon and Magic Weapon, it doesn't look like we can hit it without them! Flyn keep on shooting! By Iomdedae we will not fall this day. He them drops his pouch to the ground.
Lay on Hands: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 4) = 6
Full - Withdraw; swift LOH; free - drop Belt pouch (if allowed).
Always forget this, but the LOH should also cure the nonlethal damage
Flyndyngylyn |
Gotcha...so one of us can strike for full damage, two of us can strike it for half-damage, and Qatala can maybe strike for damage if she rolls damage higher than a 10...hope it doesn't have too many hp...
GM supervillan |
Carrick you can drop your belt in your starting or finishing square. Mark the map to indicate where you've dropped it.
Much like the battle against Olaf it seems that Flyn's deadly archery has the enemy's focus. The shadow-creature is no longer laughing. It screams, and in the blink of an eye it flies through Dorje to reach Flyn. "You WILL die today!"
acrobatics to avoid AoO: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (6) + 14 = 20 Fails: both Dorje and Qatala can take AoOs against Arastrax, but I don't think either of them can hurt it.
Wall of fire: Flyn takes fire damage: 1d4 ⇒ 4
arastrax bite vs Flyn, charge, vs touch: 1d20 + 11 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 11 + 2 = 16damage: 1d8 + 1d6 ⇒ (7) + (2) = 9
arastrax claw 1 vs Flyn, charge, vs touch: 1d20 + 11 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 11 + 2 = 32damage: 1d8 + 1d6 ⇒ (1) + (2) = 3
arastrax claw 2 vs Flyn, charge, vs touch: 1d20 + 11 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 11 + 2 = 22damage: 1d8 + 1d6 ⇒ (5) + (1) = 6
The monster's claws and fangs pass through Flyn, freezing and rending.

Qatala |
Qatala will try the AoO
nine section whip: 1d20 + 11 - 2 ⇒ (14) + 11 - 2 = 23
damage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14 magical adamantine bludgeoning
Qatala |
As that has no effect she will cast Bless
The caster and all allies within a 50-ft. burst, centered on the caster
Bless fills your allies with courage. Each ally gains a +1 morale bonus on attack rolls and on saving throws against fear effects.
This is the faith spell as a psychic.
Flyndyngylyn |
Qatala, wouldn't your whip give the demon 2 damage? Magic hits it, assuming DR10, leaving 4 damage that's halved to 2 because it's a shadow/incorporeal...isn't that right?
Flyn shudders, takes a 5' step back, and fires two more ghost salt/cold iron arrows at the shadowy demon...
Using Perfect Strike
Longbow: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (7) + 11 = 18
Longbow: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (15) + 11 = 26 (re-roll via Perfect Strike)
Damage (Ghost Salt, Cold Iron, Magic): 1d8 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12
Longbow: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (8) + 11 = 19
Damage (Ghost Salt, Cold Iron, Magic): 1d8 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13
Along with Kramac's and Qatala's attacks, hope that did it...now we wait and see...
GM supervillan |
Flyn centres himself, blotting out the sounds of the battle, the burning pain of the fire and the deathly chill of the shadow-creature's touch. His aim is true, but the monster remains!
Two hits for full damage. I've placed you in a space where you can 5' step to. Getting on top of a table takes an acrobatics or climb check.
Qatala's whip-chain passes through the shadow, to no effect. Damage is first halved by the incorporeal trait; then DR applies. It's horrible. This is a very unusual combination, hard to overcome.
Kramac hops over onto a table, whilst Kuuma drops down to the ground. Together they press an attack, but they cannot harm Arastrax. I'll allow the 5 step off of the stage onto the table. Neither of them is using a magic attack. Whilst Kramac's weapon is cold iron, it isn't magic so it can't harm the incorporeal enemy.
Carrick and Dorje still to act!
Flyndyngylyn |
Then I'm the only one that can hit it...and I'm going down this round to the wall of flame whether he hits me or not. Well, I guess maybe Carrick can hit it since he can overcome the DR but he'll have to use the magic oil...
Kramac |
Herp Derp, dumb mistake on my part. I can go get the oil of magic weapon and use it to make my CI weapon magic...
Not sure how much our GM is willing to put up with in terms of table talk, but I might toss Dorje / Qatala my weapon (its a monk weapon, so they can both use it), and I'll pick up your bow and quiver.
Carrick Castermill |
Carrick pulls an oil of bless weapon from his pouch, and applies it to his longsword.
Hang in there gang!
Move to retrieve, standard to apply
Bless Weapon - This transmutation makes a weapon strike true against evil foes. The weapon is treated as having a +1 enhancement bonus for the purpose of bypassing the DR of evil creatures or striking evil incorporeal creatures (though the spell doesn’t grant an actual enhancement bonus). The weapon also becomes good-aligned, which means it can bypass the DR of certain creatures.
Hopefully this will help - but I'm out of smites.
Dorje Wangchuk |
Dorje realized that he is helpless against the shadow but still went down the stairs down to Kramac to act a living target for the shadow.
Dorje before move action uses 1 ki point to cast barkskin on himself. AC 23
GM supervillan |
Carrick applies a blessed oil to his longsword...
Dorje rushes to his comrades aid, hoping to make himself a target...
The poor soldier who had been possessed by Arastrax gives a death rattle, and departs the mortal realm...
"A-hahahaha!" The evil spirit laughs again. "It's been fun, mortals!" Arastrax flies straight up, and through the tent itself. It does not return. You triggered a morale condition.
Wall of fire: Flyn takes fire damage: 2d4 ⇒ (4, 4) = 8 Dorje takes 1 non-lethal fire damage.
Combat (sort of) over! However, Flyn has collapsed and is close to death. You'll be able to rescue him and drag him away from the shadow-fire wall so I'm not going to need any more dice rolls from you. You'll all stay out of the range of the wall's damage until it runs out in another 30-odd seconds.
Congratulations pathfinders! You have defeated the demons! Around you the battle subsides, as Hellknights and spellcasters destroy the rest of the demonic army. I'll wrap up with more details in my next post tomorrow night.
Carrick Castermill |
Carrick stands mouth agape as the demon departs, before attending to Flyn and the other's wounds.
That was unexpected, I mean, I was on guard for someone or something to try to disrupt the weekend, attack by demons was not what I suspected. He remarks as he works on the recovery efforts.
Flyndyngylyn |
Flyn slowly stirs. "I feel medium rare..."
As he gets his bearings, he sits up and nods to Carrick, "I owe you once again, my friend...what happened with the demon? Even with four ghost salt arrows, I couldn't drop him..."
Carrick Castermill |
Surprisingly it fled, Carrick tells Flyn. It seemed to have us on the ropes, so perhaps we are all fortune this day. I long to track this Arastrax down and vanquish it for good. Carrick says with resolve in his eyes. Before extending a hand to help Flyn up off the ground.
Flyndyngylyn |
Curious...if I may ask, what was the morale condition that caused him to flee?
Kramac |
Nor was I expecting demons! I expected the Aspis to show up and cause trouble! They are always up to no good! Or failing that, more followers of Groetus. They are almsot as wicked as the Aspis snakes.
Kramac shouts this all over the roar of fire, while dragging Flynn's body away from the flames where he can be properly seen to. Once Flynn awakens, Kramac joins in on the conversation with Flynn and Carrick.
Medium rare? So you're overcooked then!
After Carrick gives Flynn his accounting of events, It had us on the ropes?! Bah, we had it on the ropes good friend! His companions were all dead and banished, while we all stood! I am confident that had he not fled, we would have defeated him.
GM supervillan |
Although the wall of shadow-fire closed off one escape route, other guests cut holes in the pavillion and fought their way out past various minor demons.
The Hellknights, despite lacking their normal equipment, exact a heavy toll from the forces of Chaos. They are exemplary in their courage and prowess.
Vroclaw of Brevoy, high priest of Abadar, banishes many demons and heals the wounds of those who do battle with the unholy foes.
The bride and groom fight side by side, Damian with sword and Michellia with spell. Although they are both wounded, they survive the battle.
Rubaani Shafar's mercenaries bore the brunt of the initial assault, and many of them lie dead. A dozen wedding guests have also been killed, although you might imagine that many of them have the wealth and influence to afford a return to life.
Hamaria Blakros is distraught, although relieved that her daughters and her new son-in-law have all survived. This was not what she wanted the wedding to be: her fears have been realised.
All of the demonic attackers have been routed or destroyed. The mood is somber. Hamaria ushers the guests back to the pier, where the Sterling Sapphire is making ready for an immediate departure back to Absalom. The Blakros matron recognises your central role in defeating the demonic assault. She and other guests are very grateful, and you are rewarded with various gifts. Rubaani Shafar insists that a portion of her pay for protecting the wedding goes to you instead; she feels responsible for the loss of life that occurred.

When you return to Absalom and the Grand Lodge, Ambrus Valsin greets you.
"Word has already reached me. A tragic turn of events. But you have done well. Exceptionally so, I might add. I knew I sent the right people! Not only did you repel an attack by the Onyx Alliance, but you also garnered influence with numerous persons of note. I am proud of you all, Pathfinders!"
Flyndyngylyn |
Flyn nods to the Venture-Captain and bows. "Thank you, sir...by your leave, I think I'll head to the Wounded Wisp now and have a drink...or three..."
Dorje Wangchuk |
Dorje deeply bows.
