Dejik |
Dejik moves her bow to her off hand, draws the wand of Protection from Evil, and casts it on Sarkast. Then she steps behind the group so she can reach either Ayesha or Ronan next.
GM SpiderBeard |
Jinxx and Sarkast are all better!
One of the statues suddenly moves - seeing the group watching it, the now-obvious gargoyle lets out a roar before flying away from the chapel and the group. A second, disturbingly familiar roar answers it from the courtyard.
That roar can only be the roar of another nabasu.
Nilus Romani |
It seems we are seen... Nilus stands and prepares for combat.
Sarkast |
Jinxx and Sarkast are all better!
Did I have to spend the mythic point for the surge?
Knowledge (planes): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21
"That sounded like one of the bat-winged demons from yesterday. Take cover!"
Sarkast looks around to find any terrain advantage.
Are any of the walls climbable?
GM SpiderBeard |
I should give you ALL the information sometime. Yes, you passed but you needed the surge. DC was 18. The walls here are DC 20 for a climb check, there's a lot of stuff to grab on to and they're crumbling.
Sarkast |
Knowing the flying beasts may be on their way, Sarkast circles around to the side of the wall and starts to climb, hoping to get some cover from their view and negate some of their height advantage.
As long as we aren't in combat yet, take 10 for 21 climb to just get to the top of the wall; his idea is to hide there, then pull up onto the wall once the demons reveal themselves.
Dejik |
On Dejik's next action, she'll channel positive to give everyone but Sarkast the benefit of Overflowing Grace: Creatures at full HP affected by your channel gain +1 sacred bonus to atk, skills, abil checks, saves, for 1 min.
Sarkast, you're out of channel reach, but remember you have Protection From Evil for 1 minute.
Nilus Romani |
Nilus holds Radiance out, and it begins glowing with its inner golden light. He moves forward, ready to do battle with the evil creatures within Moved myself on the map a little
GM SpiderBeard |
Dejik, did you cat protection from evil on everyone? You seemed to indicate that was the plan but didn't follow up.
Sarkast scampers up the side of the wall and flatterns himself against it, bracing a food against a crumbling bit of masonry so he can leap up to the roof. Suddenly there's a rush of magic and another, familiar roar sounds out. You finally see the bat-winged figure of the nabasu clear the roof of the barn and make for the party. Also, running down the narrow space between the buildings is a babau, one of the acid-coated demons you fought back in Kenabres!
Summon: 1d100 ⇒ 14
Summon: 1d3 ⇒ 1
Dejik immediately chants a spell to her goddess and the party is filled with a surge of holy energy.
Babau: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
Nabasu: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24

Jinxx: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Sarkast: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
The nabasu continues to fly right for the group before it rears back, casting a foul spell! The babau charges right under it, wielding a glaive and snarling at Nilus.
Everybody except for Sarkast and Jinxx must make a DC 21 will save vs compulsion or be paralyzed! Protection from evil provides a +2 bonus to save and a free reroll. An additional +1 to saves is from Dejik's channel.

Dejik cast protection from evil on Sarkast, then channeled to give everyone else Overflowing Grace: Creatures at full HP affected by your channel gain +1 sacred bonus to atk, skills, abil checks, saves, for 1 min.
Will save: 1d20 + 11 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 11 + 1 = 25
Dejik shudders as the spell washes over her, but she suffers no other ill effects. She checks her companions to see if they are all right.
Dejik delays. If anyone fails their save, she'll try to help them break the paralysis.
Ayesha Jalal |
will: 1d20 + 5 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 5 + 2 + 1 = 16 plus mythic surge 1d6 ⇒ 6 Huzzah!
Ayesha felt the paralyzing power of the Nabasu wash over her. Not this time! she thought as she concentrated on keeping her mental walls strong. She could feel Darb N'ssiar aiding its strength to hers and finally the world came back in focus.
Free of the spell, she took up her longbow and focused on the dragon scale in her hand. She felt a slight bend in arcane forces as the bow became attuned towards a good alignment. Smiling to herself she plucked an arrow from her quiver and sent it winging on towards the flying demon. Only towards, though, since one of her shawls caught on the lower end of the bow and jerked her aim well off target.

Sarkast |
How tall is the wall, and how safe does it look to move across? I'm trying to judge Sarkast's actual distance from the Nabasu if he tries to throw a spear, and how close he can get. With +14 Acrobatics and +11 Climb, Sarkast is pretty good at moving on difficult surfaces.
GM SpiderBeard |
The wall of the stable is peaked and around 40' high at the peak, 30' high at the base. It looks like the east wall has crumbled and the roof is thankfully tile rather than thatch. However it is precarious and an acrobatics check would be required to really move across it with any speed.
Jinxx takes off from the ground, his newly grown, angelic wings making the bizarre creature with its extended neck and slavering fangs look even more like the invention of a deranged madman.
Nilus rushes in at the babau as he enchants Radiance before the glaive cleaves down, brutally wounding the babau. He wrests his glaive free before any of the acid manages to harm the magnificent weapon.
Nilus' Reflex Save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
Jinxx moves 80' into range with the babau - as you double-moved in a straight line you can count that as a charge. They are both 50' off the ground. Dejik still has her action, everyone made the save!
GM SpiderBeard |
Whoops. Sarkast, should have looked at where you are. The outer wall for the stable is 20' high. The top is flat and easy to run along, although a basic acrobatics check is required for anyhting high speed or going along the narrow wall to your east.
Dejik |
Seeing that her friends shook off the spell, Dejik uses the wand to cast Protection from Evil on Ayesha, then tries to spread out so the nabasu can't target them again.
Sarkast |
OK, I'll need you to adjudicate how far I can get. I'm not sure if pulling up onto the roof is an action, and/or how much of his movement it uses up, but the goal is to use both actions to get as close as possible to the Nabasu, then use Fleet charge to get another move action and a free attack that bypasses DR. I doubt that he can do all of that without being spotted, but just in case I'll throw a Stealth check in to see if he can catch it looking the other way. ;-)
Sarkast bursts up onto the roof and begins running nimbly along the roof toward the Nabasu, drawing two spears. With a final push, he throws one spear, trying to catch the demon by surprise.
Stealth: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (20) + 12 = 32
Climb (if needed): 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (10) + 11 = 21
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (15) + 14 = 29
Fleet charge ranged attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21
Damage (bypasses DR): 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Sneak attack (if I'm amazingly lucky): 3d6 ⇒ (4, 6, 4) = 14
Because Fleet Charge bypasses DR, the thrown spear will be a normal one, the other left in hand is a cold iron.
GM SpiderBeard |
You can move your full speed while stealthing at a -5. Fleet charge is a little different, but it's NOT at a run. So... you rolled a 20. What the hell.
Sarkast leaps from his hiding spot, landing solidly on the roof before he takes off, his feet a blur as he races silently across the roof towards the distracted and surprised nabasu. His spear lets fly, and hammers solidly into the astonished demon who lets out a shriek of rage!
Jinxx soars towards the nabasu, biting at it with his elongated neck but the swift little demon avoids the attack.
"YOU! You are the ones who killed my mate! Your souls shall be MINE!" the nabasu shrieks in a horrid voice.
Maintain Altitude: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (12) + 15 = 27
Frustrated by the proximity of Jinxx, the nabasu desperately tries to avoid the creature as it dives at the group.
Coming 20' above the heads of Nilus, Dejik, Ayesha, and Ronan it rears back and its red eyes flare before foul energy passes over the group!
The babau retaliates against Nilus, attempting to wound him with its own longspear. One hit scores solidly!
Attack: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (16) + 12 = 28 Damage: 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13 Damage: 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
Nilus takes 11 damage. Jinxx can make an attack of opportunity. The nabasu is now 20' above the ground. And Ayesha, Nilus, Ronan, and Dejik must make a DC 18 fort save or gain a negative level! You can all go.

Drop the wand of Protection from Evil, 5 foot step, draw wand of Bless Weapon, cast it on her quiver (which still includes 3 demon bane arrows). The nabasu is still too far away for her to see it.
Sarkast |
Sarkast continues running along the edge of the roof, then as he nears the edge, he turns and leaps.
I apologize now for the shenanigans. ;-)
1. Spend 1 ki point to increase movement to 40' for one round.
2. Move action to the edge of the roof. Draw second cold iron spear while moving.
3. Spend 1 mythic point as a swift action for Fleet Charge
3a. Spend another mythic point to activate Chance Encounter to take 20 on an acrobatics check for 38 to leap. Because of the ki point, this falls within a single move.
3b. While in midair and adjacent to the nabasu, attack.
4. Cannot fail the DC 15 Acrobatics to avoid the first 10' of falling damage; the next 10' deal 1d6 nonlethal damage. Since only nonlethal damage is taken, he doesn't land prone.
5. Standard action to throw spear.
nonlethal falling damage: 1d6 ⇒ 3
Fleet charge attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10 Damage (bypasses DR): 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Acrobatics to avoid AoO from falling past Nabasu (-10 for moving more than half speed: 1d20 + 14 - 10 ⇒ (17) + 14 - 10 = 21
For AoO, Mythic Mobility increases AC by 6
Regular attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24 Damage (cold iron): 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Shouting curses in Kellid, the scout flies off the roof, narrowly missing the demon in the air. Landing underneath it, he throws one of his spears up at the demon. "Die, foul beast!"
That would have been truly epic if the first attack had landed!
Nilus Romani |
That was truly an awe inspiring post with a ton of convoluted rulesets you merged masterfully into a kickass action. Bravo Sarkast!
Jinxx |
Jinxx dives down at the nabasu, and this time bites and claws and gores the thing. 20' above Sarkast

GM SpiderBeard |
Sarkast races along the wall, rocks crumbling and skittering beneath his feet before he leaps into the air. The red outline of the sun catches him briefly before he lands directly on the nabasu, slamming a spear into the creature. It lets out a shriek before Sarkast tumbles to the ground.
I reward insanity so I'll give the nabasu a penalty to maintain altitude thanks to Sarkast plunging down on it from above.
Fly: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
However, it pinwheels in the air and manages to regain its balance as Sarkast falls to the earth, rolling on his shoulder to come up quickly.
Jinxx folds his wings and plunges down at the nabasu, biting and clawing viciously. Only a single claw manages to hit, and worse yet, the demonic hide of the nabasu shows resistance to Jinxx's attacks!
Back on the ground, Radiance flashes in the strange light of the Worldwound and breaks right through the babau's spear, and slams into its neck! The horrid, acid-covered demon's head flies off, thunking against a wall. The head and body burn up and vanish as the summoned creature is returned to the abyss.
The nabasu, plagued by Jinxx and pole-vaulting rogues, flies away from Jinxx, and wheels to target Dejik with a spell, shrieking its rage. A vile black ray flies towards the oracle...

Drawing upon her newfound powers once more, Ayesha enhanced her bow to deal more damage to demonic creatures. Smiling, she set an arrow to her bow, knowing that the good-aligned weapon, in conjuction with the new enhancements would pierce the demon thoroughly. She drew and loosed in a single motion, letting her magic guide the shot.

If either of the cold iron spears landed within 5 feet, then 5' step and pick it up. Otherwise move action to get to one of them.
Dejik |
Reeling from the effects of the spell, Dejik snarls at the demon. Your days of feeding on mortal souls are ended. She draws two of her remaining arrows from Aravashniel and takes advantage of Ronan's spell to send both of them hurtling towards the demon.

Is Fly on the Summoner list and can Ronan use inspired spell (or whatever it is called) to cast it on Nilus?
GM SpiderBeard |
I think Ronan made Fly using advanced evolution, not the fly spell but could be wrong. Also, great attack rolls, crappy damage!
Fly: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (15) + 15 = 30
Fly: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (20) + 15 = 35

Casting glitterdust. DC16 to avoid blindness
Dejik |
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18
Probably not worth a mythic point since Dejik takes a penalty for not being able to see it...
Dejik scans the sky for evil auras (Detect Evil).
Nilus Romani |
Nilus scans the area, he knows that there were other evil auras in the Chapel.
GM SpiderBeard |
Ayesha's spell sparkles through the air, and no evil auras are seen where the nabasu should be. It seems truly gone.
Dejik |
Dejik picks up the wands and puts them back in her belt. Nilus, you said there were some evil auras behind the chapel door?
Nilus Romani |
Yes Mistress Dejik. They are still there.... Nilus says, holding Radiance at the ready, expecting the Demon to return at any moment.
