Dang Besh, you make my head hurt.
Saphren looks to Besh to see what he might do before closing with the unknown creatures. What the heck are those? he asks as he readies his weapon.
Do they appear incorporeal?
Beshtori Sankral |
Sorcerers are garbage when it comes to Skill points - Beshtori knows a lot of Arcana and Planes, but has no knowledge of Religion, sadly
Flinching away from Saphren's question, Beshtori squeaks: "I ... I really don't know. Fire-shadow-clouds? Smoky-sulpher-demons? I... I'll try something..."[/b]
BEsh makes a few arm-swirling gestures, ending with the universal finger-waggling "rain pours down" gesture, but all that happens is that four balls of energy appear above one of the clouds before dropping into it.
Magic Missile: 4d4 + 4 ⇒ (1, 4, 1, 2) + 4 = 12
unfortunately, most of Beshtori's spells are fire-based, which I'm guessing will be less effective here.

Saphren, seeing Besh target one of the things, springs forward and cuts at it before spring back.

Saphren swoops in and and out of the cloud and immedaitely feels scalding pain, but manages to get a solid hit in and escape before any damage is done. Beshtori follows up with a magic missile, and Lyr blasts one with holy light. The blast shadow shrieks but continues onwards!
They swiftly rush in, and Saphren is scorched with a claw while Brenna barely blocks the attack on her. The smoky clouds around the blast shadows envelop the group, obscuring sight and causing burns.

Lyr Scarheart |
I really wanted Zoso to break into a modified version of the opening verses of Drop It Like It's Hot.
Lyr knew the smoke and ash surrounding the Blast Shadows were the biggest danger about them, and he doubted the rest of the team had any ice spells up their sleeves. He drew an alchemical flask marked with a snowflake and tossed it like a grenade.
Tossing Alchemical Ice in the square between and to the right of Red and Blue, catching both in the splash radius.

Lol, I debated it hard. In book 4 I plan to sing from a larger and less limited cannon.
Brenna Eklund |
"Explode when killed? Really?" says Brenna with a sigh. She keeps her axe and shield up and prepares to move to intercept the shadows if they close in on the party.
Since my bow will probably not be super-useful, Brenna will smash into Blue and knock him down.
Overrun: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (17) + 13 = 30
My goal is to intercept them so they can't get into the middle of the team and then explode/do area damage.
"Back it up, I'll try to tangle them up so they can't get up and explode on you guys!"
GM SpiderBeard |
It has perpetual concealment, no AoO. Speaking of which, please roll miss chances on your attacks. The plain (yellow) one is damaged.
Lyr's alchemical ice explodes, causing distress to both of the blast shadows. Brenna then charges headfirst into the blast shadow, smashing it to the ground.

As Beshtori mentally reviews zir spells available, tears of frustration begin to well in zir eyes; fists clench at zir sides.
Slowly at first, but with increasing speed, ze pushes off with zir right foot, spinning in place on zir left. Faster ze spins, becoming a blur. Suddenly, ze stops - arms outstretched, palms out - and a wave of magical force slings out to the rest of the group.

KABLAM!!
Saphren leaps in, slices clear through a blast shadow, and leaps back. Then it explodes with a surprising violence. The blast nearly knocks Brenna off of her feet, and even nimble Saphren catches the full force of the blast. She then turns, taking out her anger on the blast shadow behind her with several vicious swipes. Lyr and Zoso then let out a volley of arrows, most of which slam into the blast shadows. Beshtori's magic missile serves as a solid followup. The blue-tinged one seems about to fall apart.
The shadows rush in on the group, and Beshtori is repeatedly slashed once more! Brenna manages to avoid the worst of the attacks from her blast shadow, but most of the group is singed by the smoke.
Beshtori is critted again and takes 29 damage. Lyr and Zoso take 5 damage. Brenna takes 23 damage. Saphren takes 19 damage. Everyone is up! The explosion of the shadow that died was a 30' radius give or take.

I rolled Saphren's reflex... and thought I rolled Brenna's AoO but did not. Brenna - feel free to take an AoO before your action. Blue is no longer prone. Recognizing a stiff breeze can kill blue.
GM SpiderBeard |
I mentioned the switch a few months ago (or I hope so) - it helps with flow of action. I can switch back if you want. @Brenna - overrun has to be a part of a move. You can trip, disarm, sunder as an AoO but not overrun.

Remember you can all move your tokens. Otherwise I guess.

Brenna elects not to blow up the blast shadow, and quickly just moves out of the way as fast as possible. Beshtori, seriously injured, books it down the street the opposite direction. Zoso then fires off a flurry of arrows destroying not one, but both remaining blast shadows.

Lyr and Zoso in particular are both rocked. Saphren manages to avoid the blast of the second blast shadow exploding, being out of range of the first. The smoke slowly clears the area, and you are finally out of danger.

Lyr gave Zoso a flat look while wiping soot out of his eyes and brushing himself free of ash and dust.

Gather Info: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23
Although the echo elves in the city mostly ignore you, the loud explosions and huge battle with the blast shadows has attracted attention. However, the rubberneckers (those few that remain in the city) eventually move on.
Lyr's Survival: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (14) + 21 = 35
Although the bright spots of blood have ceased, it's no matter for Lyr to pick up the trail of the drow who came in through the portal. You continue to strike into the southeast of Celwynvian, marveling at the sight of a 10,000 year old elven city, perfectly 'restored' for lack of a better word - right before it gets destroyed by a gigantic meteor.
It takes around an hour more of travelling through the ancient city to finally come to what appears to be your destination, an obvious place to study the Earthfall: the Celwynvian Observatory.
Standing in the center of a small, well-kept park is a tall and imposing building made of black and white marble and decorated with beautiful celestial patterns. Four low domes adorn the building’s corners. A tower rises from its central portion to form a large domed structure from which three ornate telescopes protrude from balconies.
Double doors on the north side appear to be the only entrance.
I need to make a map again for this. So bear with.

"Of course not." Lyr said, touching the wabd to Saphren.
Im using the wand. It's just faster for each person to make their own rolls than for me to guess how much each of you need.
GM SpiderBeard |
Let me know how you intend to approach the building while I solve hte map problem. Have had a busy few days so I may not have something until the weekened, but will do my best.
Saphren |
Lets circle around it once from a distance. Saphren plans. Then approach from the back. Once against the wall we work our way around to the double doors if we find no other way in.
Does it look like there is a way in where the telescopes protrude? Any windows? The rogue has slippers of spider climbing and likes to use them. :)
Zoso Cendele'tiqile |
Zoso marvels at the old city as they walk through it, taking notes and making sketches the entire time they travel to the observatory.
"Sounds good to me. Hey, uh no matter what happens in there, can we try to keep the telescopes intact? The Shin'Rakorath would kill me if I didn't make some observations.. This truly is living history. Too bad we have to destroy it."
GM SpiderBeard |
Whew, OKAY. Sorry hell out of a week. We have a map now.
Spotting the observatory as the obvious location fo the tracks, Saphren leads the group in a slow circle around the building. Frustratingly, there does not appear to be a second entrance. There are massive, glass windows at the rear of the building, but they are too high up from the ground to look into them without climbing.
Map is updated. FINALLY.
