Trig's frantic communication with the whale, Reva's gory death, Saphren's next move, and Zoso's never-ending volley of arrows that don't quite hit the mark no longer matter.

With the eyes of an eagle and a hatred for drow burning deep in his heart, Lyr puts an arrow right through the eye of the drow priestess, killing her instantly. The battlefield suddenly goes silent. Her spell still in effect, the priestess collapses on the surface of the water, dead.

The whale listens to Trig's words, and with the priestess dead, it seems to believe her. Saying nothing, it vanishes beneath the water, and swims out to the ocean.

Saphern drag's the drow priestess' body to shore and dumps it unceremoniously on the dock before going in to recover Reva's body, which he treats with tenderness and concern. Carrying her to the others and carefully setting her down in as natural a position as is possible with her wounds he intones. A brave warrior for a true cause. Does anyone know what her wishes would be? Should we endeavor to return her to life?

Looking to know these answers. If there is a way you would like her to be laid to rest or revived Zoso is open to that as well. Debated a Knowledge Gm Preference check ;)

.

As a note, I'm going to auto-identify low-level magic items since you have enough spellcraft checks amongst you to reliably succeed. I have put together a 'story thus far' section because the RL time between chapters means the narrative threads may be forgotten.

Riddleport is not exactly a friendly town for Iomedeans - the deities worshipped there are the likes of Calistria, Desna, and Norgorber. However, Zoso is aware of a few shrines and temples. It is unlikely that there is a clergy powerful enough to resurrect the dead, but such services may be available from other religious institutions - for a cost.

The group set to work retrieving the body of the drow, and the body of Reva. Saphren's own skill at swimming makes the retrieval not too much of a problem. Reva's body and possessions are recovered, the same with the drow.

Loot:

On the drow are the following items:

- wand of cure light wounds (32 charges)
- 2 scrolls of charm monster
- 9 doses of drow sleep poison
- +1 banded mail
- +1 heavy steel shield
- +1 flail
- masterwork hand crossbow
- 10 +1 hand crossbow bolts
- a cloak of resistance +2
- a silver circlet

As well, a small unlocked box is found on the main platform. Within are the following, labeled in Undercommon which Lyr can read:

- 2 potions lesser restoration
- 3 potions remove paralysis
- 5 potions cure moderate wounds
- a potion of neutralize poison

Finally, a huge chest is found. Saphren opens it, and a mystery on the island is solved. The missing skymetal. Within the chest is the following:

- 53 pounds of noqual, a type of skymetal
- several high-quality outfits that are likely quite valuable
- a silver scroll tube that contains maps of Devil's Elbow, Varisia, and more interestingly the elven city Celwynvian. The map shows several key drow encampments and patrol routes and would likely be of great use to the Shin'Rakorath.

Finally in the chests are three books wrapped in silk and leather written in Undercommon.

The first is Tsalkaean's Bestiary, a detailed exploration of the denizens of the Darklands, granting a +2 circumstance bonus on Knowledge Dungeoneering checks to identify monsters.

The second is a well-read book called Thoughts on Varisian Customs written in common.

Thirdly is a journal, similar to the one kept by Depora, the drow the group slew in the tunnels beneath Riddleport so long ago. The prietess you slew was called Shindiira Misraria, and while Depora's journal did not mention Shindiira, this journal talks about Depora a great deal. The following information is gleaned:

Leafing through, the journal mentions Shindiira's excitement at being accepted into House Azrinae, and her frustration and eventual hatred for Depora. Apparently the two were competing for the companionship of a leader of above-ground drow efforts in Celwynvian, a male named Nolveniss which lead to their split. Shindiira's plans were simple - with her rival slain she would return the sole victor with a working weapon that could call down stars, a fourtune in skymetal, and several akata. The journal also repeatedly mentions some plan of Nolveniss' experiments ominously called The Armageddon Echo - apparently a result of his experiments, but nothing clear.

Finally, the two journals together give a clear understanding of what has happened over the past while in Riddleport:

The Story Thus Far:

- House Azrinae has designed a weapon using ancient magics of some sort to call down meteors from the sky to Golarion

- Agents, lead by a male named Nolveniss are operating out of Celwynvian organized a team to go to Devil's Elbow to set up the weapon for a test run

- Nolveniss is also working on something ominously called "The Armageddon Echo"

- Shindiira and Depora were sent to set up the weapon, which they did by inscribing glyphs in these caves after imprisoning a siren, a note says the glyphs were destroyed when the meteor hit

- Once the glyphs were finished, Depora left for Riddleport

- In Riddleport, Depora set up shop to study the Cyphergate beneath the Gold Goblin and harvest a chunk of for unstated reasons, while also using Saul Vancaskerkin to send supplies to Shindiira

- While searching for a star to call down, a large manner of strange aberrations occurred, most notably The Blot

- The star brought with it the akata, the strange alien life form which propagated by implanting its larvae in its victims

- Shindiira had charmed Clegg Zincher, the Riddleport gang leader, to capture akata above ground so she could return with them

- Victorious, Shindiira was preparing to return to Celwynvian

With the dead collected Saphren turn to his wounds. Can anyone heal these cuts or do I need to drink this potion? After his wounds have been closed he looks over the loot and the clues. [b]I can't read these demon scratchings. he complains before setting down the books and looking over the weapons.I could use these bolts and the sleep poison. he notes. I already have a good quality hand crossbow though. The cloak would be a nice upgrade but I guess all of us could benefit from that. He picks up the enchanted heavy flail and swings it about awkwardly before setting it down with a frown and then a shrug. Ungangly, isn't it. he comments. Eying the potions he asks who should carry these guys?

After opening the chest he examines the high-quality outfits for both value and to see if they might be useful in their own rights.

While you stew over division of loot and what to do with Reva's body, you decide to continue exploring the cavern. After all, there is word of a siren and these glyphs that apparently called down a meteor!

In the eastern section of the cave you find a tunnel which has completely caved in. To the south of it is a very sturdy, and new wooden door covered in spidery runes. Lyr translates them:

Runes wrote:
A great undead peril lies beyond this barrier!

The barrier looks like someone sturdy enough could pry it open.

Lyr sighed. He had not known Reva long, but he felt her death was his fault. His spell had not effected the beast in the water. If it had, she would still live.

He shook his head and went to stand guard as the others regrouped and mourned their friend.

Zoso passes on what he knows of the few shrines and temples, offering his help in anyway they needed. He then pays his respects to Reva for their short time and lets her close friends perform their rituals and rites.

Zoso moves to guard a different path while he waits, contemplating Reva's death, House Azrinae, Celwynvian, and the ominus "Armageddon Echo." 'This is shaping into quite a tale indeed.' he reflects on it all. ' They said they had lost another companion yesterday as well.. Going through such trials, and what I have witnessed, these are unmistakably souls of a a high order. I have found the beginning piece of what I have been looking for and it gravely seems we are destined to enter the kind of judgments that bring timeless heroes enlightened victory.' Lastly he sets out penning a new tune in his mind, insofar as to hum it softly as experimenting with melody.

Leveled, recovered 4 arrows. Turns out I only shot 7 at that drow woman, felt like sooo much more.

.

Seeing the door with its clear markings of danger, the group finds a comfortable spot in the cave and beds down. Despite the horrors of the past day and the death of Reva, the cave that the drow prietess had staked out is unmistakeably beautiful, and the roar of the ocean and calls of the sea birds make for a pleasant night's rest.

The group awakes the next day rested.

Let me know about your next actions, if you're going through the door in search of the siren or if you're going elsewhere on the island. I'm going to just arbitrate that you have one more day until the Flying Cloud returns for pickup.

Before bedding down Saphren pays his respects to Reva's corpse, speaking to her quietly as if she were only resting. He repositions the body to make it look more comfortable and checks to make sure her weapons are in good repair and close to hand.

When he returns to the group he says We have to raise her. Her work in this world was not done and I know she would not wish to go before hIomedae without completing what was assigned to her. I think her gear and her cut should come close to covering the cost but if it does not I would like to pledge some of what we have found here today to cover the rest. What do you all say?

Changing the subject he asks I'm not too sure about this Siren. If legends are true then it might not show proper gratitude if we freed it. What do the rest of you think? We do have another day before pickup I say we at least investigate after we deal with whatever undead is behind door #2.

.

I'm moving this weekend and won't have internet until Monday. Feel free to talk things out during that time.

.

With nobody arguing with Saphren's idea, the group gets to work breaking down the door. After some brute force from Magnus, the door is ripped open to reveal the following:

This large chamber rises to a height of roughly thirty feet near the center, where a very small hole acts as a natural skylight. Relatively quiet, with the constant crash of the ocean muffled by solid stone, this cave seems an ideal lair. Moisture-slicked mildewing tapestries and animal pelts cover nearly every inch of the walls, indicating that at one time this chamber did serve as home to some kind of creature.

As you cautiously move in, a ghostly, bird-like creature with the head of a beautiful woman appears before you. She cries out in a woeful voice:

"Where is my Yaris?! What has happened to him?"

Knowledge History or Local DC 20:

Yaris was the founder of the failed settlement of Witchlight, from which a few of you took a ride down a rolling watch tower. Yaris threw himself from the eastern tower after his beloved was murdered by a lynch mob. This is very likely his beloved.

.

She moans miserably, clutching her face in her hands.

"Aye the fool people killed me, blamed me for their failing community. My poor, poor Yaris. I knew he was long gone but was confused. I have felt him. I feel him now. He is so angry, so bitter. He still stalks this wretched island. Please, find him. Let him go from this world and I will go with him. I have things of value to you, I am sure."

She turns, facing southeast.

Making sure that no one else from the camp can overhear Saphren offers I think you know what the story is Zilcher. We killed all the dark elves, but at great cost. We know you were charmed by them and even have proof. Reva gave her life in the fight that freed you from their slavery. Now no one else needs to know you were helping these enemies that are trying to literally destroy our world as long as you are capable of showing some gratitude and help out getting Reva returned to life. What do you say? Here is your chance to be a hero. The green skinned half orc looks at the man waiting for a response.

Clegg looks at the group uncomprehending for a bit, and an internal struggle seems to take place.

Clegg blinks as Saphren proposes the gold price for resurrecting Reva.

"Thing is Saphren, you've already done the deed and I have no idea why I'd be interested in this information. I tend to agree to services rendered before these services are rendered. I ate a huge loss going against you and Saul, and I'm eating another huge loss with this errand out to this godforsaken island. I got - what - a pound of noqual? Where'd the damn star go?! Let me explain it a little more clearly Clegg. While you are right and that deed is done you have a chance to show some real gratitude and cement a future relationship with our group. Failing that we might feel compelled to cover our own costs in some less pleasant way. You know what our group is capable of and I hope you would like us as allies rather than enemies. I know some crime boss is going to dominate back in the city and from my point of view you are no worse than the others. And if your gratitude extended to having Reva brought back then its likely we could find you some of that noqual you want so bad.

Can we maybe roll a group diplomacy roll or something to see what type of deal we might can cut here and move on? While we are trying to get some value from the huge favor we did for Clegg, we are also offering future contacts such that at least he knows what's going on and could call on us if he needs help. And unless someone objects we are offering to sell him the noqual for a reasonable price. Plus Saphren is trying to hint that there could be trouble for Clegg if they are not compensated unless he feels that such a threat would be counter productive.

.

Brenna:

In your wanderings along the wild Varisian coast, nothing has ever quite stuck with you like the stench of Riddleport. The corrupt, chaotic city has a perpetual rank of rot and excrement which makes the fact that thirteen or so thousand people live here all the more unbelievable.

It took a good week to get here after deciding to head in to investigate the Blot, and just a few days ago you saw it with everyone else. A star fell from the sky, streaking towards Golarion with incredible intensity before hitting some place out at sea. And as it fell, the Blot vanished.

Making haste for the last day, you finally found Riddleport in a fever about something called 'skymetal' and with its entire pier ruined and hundreds of ships destroyed by a tsunami. It was almost impossible to get information, but thankfully, you had a contact. The other fever that had overwhelmed the city was one of dark elves. Evil creatures of myth and legend were in fact real, and one had been involved in a battle atop the Cyphergate before falling to die in the streets.

Kwava the elf is a strange ranger from the very far south - some place called Mwangi. By sheerest accident, you were both in the same town during an orc raid and the two of you (and his hawk, Ganmeed) completely wiped out the raiders. He was a little strange and stilted, but fought like hell and promised work if you ever met him in Riddleport. Something about a renegade elf he was hunting.

You now find yourself in a strange location for this elf - a casino called the Gold Goblin. He has set himself up in some smuggler's tunnels beneath Goblin with several bottles of extremely nice wine. The two of you are drinking and talking. An enormous arch of the Cyphergate plunges through the ground just three feet to your left.

"It is good you are here Brenna, your muscle will be needed. My companions are now at the island where the star fell to investigate the drow. We will find out shortly if they have returned alive and if they have, I believe there will be very interesting work for you."

Okay, using the notes from discussion to resolve this conversation as I see the direction for he group here.

The group takes a moment to confer before returning to Clegg. The huge man grins wickedly as the fib about the noqual is admitted to. He doesn't seem to mind.

"Hah! So it's true! All right you lot. You're in luck because I know how well you fight and know damn well that I can't take what I want by force. That noqual is power, and I want power. You make a good argument either way. I'll pay to bring your friend back and buy the noqual off of you for two thousand gold. But I expect that information to be forthcoming. If there are dangers to my business in Riddleport, I want to know about them. Do we have a deal?"

Saphren smiles at the man and nods I thought you might come around. We've a total of 56 pounds of the green crystal like metal. With what you already have you should be able to corner the noqual market. He extends his hand to shake with Clegg. Now we have a promise to keep to a ghost and I bet you have camp to break and a boat to catch. We shall see you back in Riddleport.

"I wouldn't have expected to find good wine in a dive like this," Brenna says to Kwava with an arched eyebrow. "So what's the deal you have for me? This entire town is going crazy over skymetal and svartalfar. Since you aren't an opportunist, Kwava, I'd say it has to do with the latter, but might stumble over the former."

"Clegg, I think a lot of what Saul told us about you may have been lies. You're a scoundrel but you're alright, when you're not being mentally controlled by dark elves from the bowels of Golarion that is."

Brenna:

Kwava sips the wine again, taking a little while before responding.

"Well, right now, we are waiting. I work for a society called the Shin'Rakorath. Many years ago, Golarion was plunged into an age of darkness where the sun was blocked. My people - the elves - escaped Golarion, leaving to a different world. Some remained though, and were driven underground by the dark. These elves became evil, and twisted and we call them drow. The drow remain deep below group in the Darklands and are only known as myths to most surface dwellers. But something has changed, and they are coming to the surface to work their evil. My society is convinced they wish to bring a second age of darkness."

He pours another glass. His speech has a lilting quality to it.

"We have one such drow as a prisoner. She was in this very chamber, studying the Cyphergate for reasons opaque to me. But she was part of a larger team which was based out of an island near to Riddleport. On this island, the drow managed to create a weapon which brought down a star from the sky. The Blot was possibly related to this weapon. My companions have traveled to Devil's Elbow to stop this, and their ship is due to return tomorrow - hopefully with them."

He points a finger at you.

"There will be more work after this, and we need strong people. The Shin'Rakorath are scattered and there are few of us. We must work through others. The drow wish to destroy you, and everyone that you know and love and so I ask that you help us stop them in whatever comes next. Of course, some payment will be provided."

Clegg stares daggers at Trig before barking a laugh. He grabs a sheet of paper, scribbles over it, and then presses it into a letter with a seal. He then writes a second one.

"Take this to the Temple of Calistria, and then this one to my arena. The tiefling who runs the place owes me a favour. She will bring your friend back. Your payment will be provided to you in Riddleport. I don't bring chests of platinum with me when I travel usually. Now let's look at that noqual and get off of this miserable island."

You have a final opportunity to conduct any further business on Devil's Elbow, including investigating the wraith and deciding if you want to do anything about or with the akata.

DM SB:
"I've heard a similar story about how the world will end in eternal winter when the sun is blotted out of the sky, and dark things will crawl out of the earth to destroy all the people. It sounds like we're on the same page here," says Brenna. "Did you learn anything useful from the prisoner? Where is your team headed next?" She pauses to sip the wine, and notes someone leering at her, which causes her to lower her head slightly and deploy The Glare.

Then she leans back casually and awaits Kwava's reply.
