He looks at the lizard thing currently slipping on the floor, and decides to try and keep it there.

Bofur rushes forwards, levelling his crossbow and firing at the blue troglodyte. His bolt slams into the cave wall, but doesn't manage to hit anything.

Kwava moves up behind the group, firing his own arrows, both slam into the grey troglodyte, and it goes down!

One skids, but gets off of the grease while the other attacks Variel.

I tried to demoralize them the last turn. If it didn't work, then that's fine.

Mutt is joyous as his sight returns. "I can see!" He glares at the red tinted troglodyte. "I can fight!" He then runs for the enemy, moving past the others, swinging his greataxe! The flames on his arms seem to roar brighter and hotter and the electricity at his face increases and crackles, as if responding to his anger.

Thaddeus shuffles over. It's hard to get a good look at anything past multiple moving figures, but he still tries to get a bead on that one stalactite still conscious, at least for now.

He conjures elemental energy into his hands, wiggling his fingers before rubbing his hands together. He pulls them slowly apart, and the space between his hands fills with snow, changing his rubbing motion into a rolling motion. Getting a suitable-sized lump of snow, he tosses it at the still conscious stalactite monster.

FREE: 5-foot step right.
STANDARD: Cast Snowball at still-awake Sentinel. Ranged Touch attack.

Thaddeus gets a decently-sized enough lump of snow out of thin air, but unfortunately his aim is off and his snowball flies off into the cavern. Bofur's bolt also misses the sentinel by a mile. Kwava is far more fortunate, and he kills the sentinel.

Thaddeus' sling stone bonks off of the awakening sentinel as Fiona bursts into song and Mutt fails to kill a troglodyte. Variel's whip does the job, however, as it wraps around the neck of a trog and brings it down to the ground before he jerks it back with a satisfying crack.

Bofur's bolt slams into the remaining sentinel, killing it instantly as Kwava fires at the green trog.

As Fiona sings, violet motes of energy surround her, and the other party members in the throes of her song. She opens her eyes, and a violet glow engulfs her vision.

She raises her earthbreaker and swings it, while the motes leap forth as well to strike!

Everyone affected by my Raging Song gets an additional slam attack at +5 that inflicts 1d4+3 Negative Energy damage on a successful hit. This attack applies to all foes they're adjacent to.

Sorry for being late.

Mutt smirks as the lizard man goes down. He then decides to try something risky. He moves around the troglodyte (being careful not to get hit)... and steps into the grease trap.

Mutt watches in confusion as little tiny orb... things come out of his greataxe, one of them attack. He sees that they seem to be coming from Fiona. "What are these things?!"

Thaddeus feels the song trying to spur him, energizing him, though he quickly pushes it out of his mind, preferring to keep a clear head. Though he does curiously looks at the little motes that surround everyone else, leaping to attack nearby foes.

He sees the last lizard-thing getting surrounded. Deciding his already abysmal aim won't be helped trying to target it without hitting any allies, Thaddeus settles for mumbling some words and touching Bofur on the shoulder, to give him a small bit of guidance.

Okay NOW you fall.

Mutt sweeps by a trog and then collapses to the ground, swinging up and missing wildly at the trog while the trog also parries Variel's attack.

Thaddeus grants BOfur a quick boon to his next attack, and the dwarf fires off a crossbow bolt which slams into the trog's chest.

The healing energy seems to burst from Thaddeus' hands, so much so that even he jumps back in surprise. The effect is immediately apparent, as Mutt's injuries knit together quickly.

"Whoa! Dat... was more 'den Ah was expectin'!"

As Fiona mentions her own bit of confusion with the spirits, Thaddeus dwells on them, trying to help enlighten the group.

When Fiona explains the motes, Mutt snorts and crosses his arms. "Great. So, now I'm on fire and spreading lighting and now we got little spirit things helping us." He approaches one (if any are still lingering) and begins to poke at it in curiosity.

The mote puffs out of existence as Mutt gives it a poke. Some things are not for Mutt's mighty brain to comprehend. The troglodytes themselves are naked except for their clubs and have nothing of value.

You push northwards a small ways and the cave opens up to the left and right.

To the left is the guardroom the troglodytes emerged from:

This small, close side cavern is heavy with a reptilian stench.
A number of pieces of bone and shiny bits of quartz lie on
the floor.

To the right is a midden:

A foul fishy odor intermingled with the sickly-sweet smell of rot fills this small, cramped chamber. The floor here is uneven and ankle deep in fish scales, bloated clumps of pallid fungus, and a mixture of sludgy and gristly bits of bone.

As the group heads northwards, Thaddeus wracks his brain about the strange nature of Fiona's spirits. He recalls reading a book on it at the Cypherlodge. His own style of spellcasting is similar as well.

What appears to be happening is Fiona's song has stirred the spirits of the land. Spirits are difficult to define, but to the Cyphermages they're the manifestations of the natural energy of the world. They are nonentities to most people, particularly city-dwelling humans, but to the Shoanti they are essential to the shamanic tradition. To commune with the spirits requires a natural understanding, even just a subconscious one, of the energies and flow of the world.

Or the short version, the little dancy lights are always here, and everywhere in fact, and really like Fiona's song so they decided to help.

Mutt stomps into the guard room, and looks around a little bit. There's not too much of note, it stinks heavily of troglodyte, and there are several bottles of wine that look like they have been pilfered from your cellar.

As Mutt looks around, he spots a small bag beneath some hides. Opening the bag, he spots several gemstones.

There are a variety of gems, cut and uncut. Their total value is roughly 800 gold.

As the last enemy falls and Fiona's song ends, Variel feels the battle energy drain from him like a physical thing. He rests a moment and recovers his wits, then realizes he is bleeding.

Satisfied with his recovery, he sheathes his sword and recovers his whip, then joins the group in continuing the search.

With the incantation, his eyes dilate a bit and he seems to take in his surroundings a bit better. Heightened Awareness, +2 to Perception and trained Knowledge skills for 30 minutes.

As the group passes the midden, he takes a moment to kick at it. Take 10 for 22 Perception.

Bofur peeks around the corner, and is dismayed to see a large number of troglodytes cavorting in a wide open area.

Well, of course. We get as much information from him as possible. When that's all dried up, then we get him. Also, Mutt is a destined bloodline bloodrager. The elemental effects are somewhat foreshadowing the types of spells I'm going to take (mostly damage spells and spells that give him more power in combat; though I am also taking some utility spells). Also, I'm planning on taking the elemental totem rage powers.

We do seem to be a little low on Trap Detection and Disarmament, so solid choice. Though I was sort of hoping you'd keep putting ranks into Knowledge (Nature) and Survival. I branched out my Knowledges this level, with the justification of all the time in the Cyphermage's Lodge perusing their library. Granted, we've spent a lot of time in the city, so I can see why you haven't invested anything this level.

Ranger/Rogue? Considered retraining into Slayer from Advanced Class Guide, since that's advertised as a Ranger/Rogue mashup? Spiderbeard seems like he'd let you retrain if you'd ask. But if you're satisfied with how it's going, or the rogue is a quick dip, then disregard.

And I can't deny a bit of nervous curiosity as to what you mean by 'darker level.' But I'll likely see what you mean by that in-game.

Thanks for the tips Thaddeus. I wasn't familiar with the slayer and it has some very attractive customization options. However, I really just wanted the rogue's trapfinding and disable and the sneak attack was a nice bonus. Unfortunately, the slayer doesn't have it. (Frownie face) I may take a second level for a rogue talent and to get evasion faster, but in fact I'm enjoying the ranger path.

Obviously we keep the cure potions, and probably will want to buy more with proceeds of what we sell.

Variel could use either armor. Who else wants either one?

Variel can take 10 for 22 Perception to identify the potions with Heightened Awareness.

Everything else should go to outfit the militia, then sell the rest and divide the proceeds. Once we have a number, I may want to do some shopping ahead of the sewer crawl.

Seems we have a bit of a battle for the armour. Mutt wants the Chain Shirt, and I believe Bofur has expressed an interest in the Leather. And Variel would like either. (And, to be honest, I think Fiona could use one as well.)

Not sure how everyone wants to settle this. Looking over what's been equipped, I see Variel has a magic shield already, so I'm somewhat inclined to say he's already magically protected. Bofur has studded leather, Mutt has a chain shirt, and Fiona has hide armour.

Does nobody want the Masterwork hand axe? That'd be a solid backup weapon. Or the three throwing axes? Always good to have a standby ranged weapon.

Similarly, nobody wants to upgrade to chain mail?

Spiderbeard, we may need a bit more time for distribution and selling. After I determine what everyone is taking, then I can liquidate it, and divvy up the loot, and then we can go shopping. And then dive back down into the basement.

But I'd really also like a masterwork earthbreaker... then I could get it enchanted. :)

Well, Mutt would like the +1 chain shirt to improve his AC and to reduce his ACP. In exchange, he'll put his normal chain shirt into the loot pile.

Also, he might want to take the masterwork handaxe. He'll then put his normal handaxe into the loot pile.

Next, he'll take the throwing axes and maybe give the +1 dagger to someone else if necessary. I like the damage output better on the axes than the dagger.

I had Sam and Zhen upgrade to heavy steel shields and chainmail. I don't know if Spiderbeard took those out already. I'm also upgrading Twitchers to the same (provided he still has the gear he had before). That way, all of the bouncers will be equal in terms of gear and the like.

Finally, I would like to at least get a masterwork greataxe. I could use a better main two-handed weapon and have it be enchanted in the future.

After what happened with Twitches and a little past experience, I would be inclined to agree. I have a healing witch in a WotR game. I was in the medical wing of the base and I used some healy myrrh to heal everyone using the smoke from it. Through all of my heal checks and techniques, I healed almost everyone in the room.

Oh, forgot to update the list. Readjusted, as the prices GM gave were the purchase prices. Taking out the Leather Armour, as both Bofur and Variel have made a claim for that.

Sam, Zhen, and Twitches didn't have any shields beforehand. They also had studded leather armor. Again, I don't know if Twitches still has his own gear or if it's at his home or what.

Even with a search I can't find the ID roll for the vials. They also aren't potions - knowledge nature or alchemy.

But I'll give it to you to make life easy. The vials are a knockout poison, delivered by injury. After being hit, someone will fall unconscious for at least a minute, if not horus.

Also, how much do we get each? I'm calculating about 516.67 gp each. But, I don't know if we gave half to the bouncers or not. If we hadn't, then I'm giving the bouncers about 30 gp each from my share.

My mistake, Mutt, it wasn`t a MW Greataxe, there was a MW Battle Axe. So disregard what I was babbling about. Bofur, I see you use a Battle Axe. Did you want the Masterwork one? I know you have a in-character attachment to your current one, but I'll assume you took it anyways. For now, at least. We can sell it later if you want. Or, rather, don't want.

Okay, so, Mutt, there were six sets of long swords, chain mail, and heavy steel shields. You indicated that Sam and Zhen would take Chainmail Suits and Shields, and throw their former Studded Leather suits onto the pile. Hence why there were six longswords, but only four suits of armour and shields. Now, I'll just assume that Twitches still had his studded leather somewhere, and we upgraded him likewise. (That is, he took a suit of chain mail and a heavy steel shield, dropping the four to three.)

So that leaves us with...

If we set aside the previous NPC cut, that leaves 125.5gp. Let's make this easy and each take 20gp more and give the remaining 25.5gp to Kwava, who is an NPC with PC class levels. Any objections?

So after all of the selling and purchasing, I have in total 253 gp, 14 sp, 7 cp. the reason that the gold is so high is that I had over 200 gold before we sold the stuff. I think I'll make some more purchases.

Spiderbeard specified that Kwava declined a share of the loot. (At least, that was the idea I got.)

310/2 = 155. 155/8 (Plus a bunch of roundings and recalculations) = 19 GP, 6 SP for all PCs. (Each bouncer gets 9 GP, 5 SP. To make the math easier, I divided the remainder from the initial division and divvyed it up amongst the PCs only.)

I got quite a bit of wealth as well, but I need to save it up. Scrolls don't come cheap. And then there's the real loot for wizards. Headbands, metamagic rods, Real ARCANCE POWER!

It was +1 Leather, not +1 Studded Leather. It wouldn't improve Bofur's AC, but it would reduce his Armour Check Penalty.

Since nobody has made an active bid for them, I'll just say it now. Bofur and Mutt, each of you can take a Potion of Cure Light Wounds. As well, Bofur might as well take all the poison vials, as nobody else has expressed an interest in them.

I'm thinking next level up, I'm going to swap out my Slumber Hex. I took it hearing that it was a powerful option for witches. And I agree. Honestly, I'm starting to feel it's too powerful. And too boring.

For early levels, it wouldn't be so bad, but since it lasts longer the higher level Thaddeus is, (And the save DC increases as well) it'll just get more and more powerful. As well, I'm starting to feel like the smart option every battle is just trying to put everyone to sleep. And, to be frank, that just gets boring for me, and perhaps the other players, and I bet it's frustrating for the GM.

I have a in-story rationale for how Thaddeus would lose access to the hex, but wanted to let everyone know, and perhaps to apologize if the hex was starting to annoy you, as a player or a GM.

I see what you mean. I actually agree a bit - a spell that powerful at first level shouldn't scale like it does. The regular sleep spell is capped by a HD total so it's an instant win at level one and useless shortly thereafter.

That said, it's kept Thaddeus as a very, very useful low-level caster and now that we're getting into the more fun stuff you can branch out. So no issues here.

If I was to rewrite that hex, it'd have an HD cap or some equivalent.

I wouldn't give it an HP cap, as that's one reason I almost never bother with Sleep or Deep Slumber with other spellcasters. Ditto the scaling save. What I would change is the duration or how many times the Witch could do it in a day.

But houseruling is for another time. For now, like I said, next level up I'll swap it out.
