Thaddeus Claville |
Mutt's last post shows a bit more verbal puissance than I was expecting. Not saying it's OOC, you can play him however you want. Mostly I'm amused as it reminded me of this comic.
GM SpiderBeard |
I'm a big fan of the eloquent barbarian deal. You can't really pontificate about ripping out your opponents entrails unless you've got some vocabulary to go on.
"Mutt" |
Well, I don't know if Mutt would speak like that since, you know, low intelligence and all. But, I can just hand wave it to say that his former master tried to 'civilize' him.
Mostly, I was just trying to sound awesome and battle hungry. Kind of like Iron Bull from DA:I.
Thaddeus Claville |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
10 isn't a low intelligence, it's thoroughly average. And it wasn't Mutt's declaration of battle that I noted, but his observance of Fiona's talents that seemed awfully verbose.
I like the idea that Mutt's former master trained him to be more fluent for pre-match trash talks, though.
Fiona Sun-Touched |
Just waiting on our GM. :)
Is it just me, or does Mutt have a bit of a crush on her?
"Mutt" |
I like the idea that Mutt's former master trained him to be more fluent for pre-match trash talks, though.
A very large, greasy looking man walks up to Mutt, who's currently bound in chains. "Alright, you savage dog! If you are to make me profit during your fights, then you need to be eloquent in your words before, during, and after combat! To demean your enemy! To humiliate him!" He starts pacing back and forth, continuing his speech. "That is part of tournament fighting! For when all is said and done, it is a show! A grand spectacle for his higher borns and those who are in a position of grand power, such as myself! It is very amusing to watch you savages beat each other with steel. However, it says something when one such as yourself can verbally attack your opponent. It shows that you are capable of showmanship! And who would the people look at in awe for teaching you this? Me! The great Fastelli! Soon to be one of the greatest crime lords and champion of the tournament business in all of Kaer Maga!" He then turns to Mutt. "Do you understand?!" Mutt just continues to stare at Fastelli with an impassive look on his face. Fastelli just sighs and pinches the bridge of his nose. "*sigh* Of course not. It seems like it has gone over your head. Let's start with the basics."
Is it just me, or does Mutt have a bit of a crush on her?
Maybe... ;) If it does come to that, it's most likely not going to happen this early in the AP.
Then again, Mutt hasn't met a Shoanti skald, who's inspiring and bringing forth his rage and is kicking thug a** with him.
When it comes to his rage, he's used to tapping into it himself. So, meeting someone who can bring that rage forward and not suffer fatigue is making him curious. He's like: 'What is going on here? Why can't I figure this out?! I NEED TO HIT SOMETHING BECAUSE I'M CONFUSED!!' Part of his thinking is that, since Fiona can bring out his rage (something he's used to bringing out most of the time during a fight), she must have some sort of spell over him.
Also, he seems much happier and upbeat because he's in combat. By the time it ends, he'll be his grumpy and dour self... for the most part (he still wants to take Fetch in).
Fiona Sun-Touched |
Y'know where my song comes from now? :)
Fiona Sun-Touched |
It's from Metal Gear Rising--specifically, the Bladewolf DLC. "The Hot Wind Blowing."

Incidentally I just finished Planescape Torment after having not played it for like, ten years. Thanks for reminding me! :D
Fiona Sun-Touched |
:)
Just waiting to see if this thug is being truthful.
"Mutt" |
Should we continue preception checks? I get a bad feeling about this. I could intimidate the truth out of him.
Fiona Sun-Touched |
GM, how wide is the alley? Would I be able to get around him to keep him from running away?
Fiona Sun-Touched |
Mutt, I was kinda thinking that you could 5' step in front of Beltias. That way, we could both flank him.
Fiona Sun-Touched |
You can expect at least one post from me this evening.
I'll be out for this afternoon because it's my birthday today. :)
Thaddeus Claville |
Spiderbeard, got some questions/discussions on our week of downtime. Didn't want to clutter the board proper with it.
First off, where was the group staying? Or, I suppose more relevantly, Thaddeus? Related, how much lawn does the Gold Goblin have? (I'm considering Old Horn's dwellings, or at least where he can munch on grass during downtimes?)
Second, Thaddeus would head back to St. Caspieran's Salvation to check in on things, as well as the blind bird man. The gang may have gotten rid of the Splithog Pauper, but the priest being a drunk has Thaddeus suspicious. Also, he intends to honour his promise to check in on the old man and his birds, and make sure he's got what he needs.
Thaddeus, aside from learning the blind man's name, also wants to learn about how well his pigeons know the city. Thaddeus doesn't have that much business sense, but even he could see the potential of a cheap messenger service.
How many duties does Thaddeus have during normal days at the Gold Goblin, at least for the first week? I want to have a general idea of how much free time he has.
In case anyone is wondering, Thaddeus' alingment being listed as neutral is how I start most of my characters, and then I determine their alingment after I play them for a while. I'll probably change it up soon.
GM SpiderBeard |
Sorry Thadd, I've glossed over a few things that were put in detail to the others.
1. Thaddeus has a room at the Gold Goblin upstairs.
2. I'll describe what you see in game with St. Caspieran's.
3. It's six hour days every day of the week except for Sunday, and the shifts are evening shifts. Although you can apply yourself to it as much as you want.
"Mutt" |
Hey, guys. I'm still here. This RP post is taking a long time to write. Hopefully, I'll get it done soon.
Also, I don't know what to buy. I don't think I can upgrade my weapons yet. I might wind up buying some potions. Or maybe I can buy some things for Fetch. Any ideas?
Fiona Sun-Touched |
Buying potions would be a good idea--just make sure you don't go overboard if you want to save some stuff for Fetch. :)
"Mutt" |
Don't know if I should get a potion of enlarge person. I know that when I get spell casting, that's one of the first spells I'm taking.
Thaddeus Claville |
Hmm, Enlarge Person is on Thaddeus' spell list, so he could cast it. Bit risky right now to try and teach Old Horn the spell, (It's how Witches 'scribe spells into their spellbooks.') as I only have a 55% chance. Still, I'll keep it in mind.
If the adventure doesn't provide an answer, I'll look up how carrier pigeons work, so the onus doesn't fall on you to research everything.
GM SpiderBeard |
Thaddeus - you are right. Carrier pigeons have pretty spectacular range though. You can basically get anywhere in Varisia that isn't blocked by mountains, but that includes the two big cities; Korvosa and Magnimar. Feel free to consider them an asset you can use.
Variel Duardlon |
Thaddeus: Variel is a bit circumspect about it, as he's essentially on a covert mission for Kyonin to make sure that the Blot isn't a either plot by the humans of Riddleport to do some dastardly magic or a foothold for more demons to come through. You might catch him watching it at times, though, and if you do your own research we'll probably eventually bump into each other.
Thaddeus Claville |
Variel: Fair enough. For now, Thaddeus is mostly just trying to get settled in and adapting to big city life at the moment, so I'll hold off on any partnerships. (Beyond alredy being part of the group.)
"Mutt" |
Any recommendations on rage powers to take as a primalist and which bloodline powers to replace? I've heard that the beast totem line is pretty awesome.
GM SpiderBeard |
Just to settle this in discussion - who gets the +1 dagger? Mutt or Variel? I will allow for arm wrestling, negotiations, IOUs written in blood, or slapsies.
GM SpiderBeard |
On the build advice, think about the fighting style you want for Mutt, the role he has in combat, and how it all plays together.
Like do you want to soak damage or deal damage? Do you want to pounce on someone and rip them apart? Or do you want to keep on with the big axe and send heads rolling?
On a pure min/max perspective, beast totem is all about Greater Beast Totem, a level 10 rage power that gives you pounce (full attack after a charge), which is amazing. In a PbP game, it's a long time before you see that level though.
Fiona Sun-Touched |
I'm planning on taking the Spirit Totem tree as I level up. Raging Song + Lesser Spirit Totem = more DPS for everyone who accepts it. :)
Thaddeus Claville |
How early in the morning did Saul give us our mission? I haven't written down Spells Prepared yet, so I'd better pick them now. I want to know if Thaddeus had enough forewarning to prepare his spells in anticipation of trouble.
Bofur II |
Hi all, we're leaving for holiday in Italy early tomorrow (CET). and returning on 23 August. We've been informed that the wifi at our rental flat is down, so I don't know how often I'll be able to check in. Please run me as an NPC until I'm back. I'll add my new purchases to my character sheet. Bofur's got Rapid Shot and decent aim but no Precise Shot (yet), so he'll switch to his battle axe if he can't get a safe shot in. He has favored enemy (human), so don't forget his +2 attack and damage (and tracking, etc.).
Fiona Sun-Touched |
Do we have the 500 gold this guy claims Saul owes him? If we do, I think we can still get inside.
If we don't, and I say that we do, would that count as a plausible bluff, GM?
Fiona Sun-Touched |
So, should we just start knocking the door in? Or should I try a different tactic to get us in?
Fiona Sun-Touched |
Well, I tried to be nice. Guess we're doing things the hard way.
Fiona Sun-Touched |
Out of curiosity, would I be able to cast grease on the door to make it easier to bash open?
Fiona Sun-Touched |
Fiona SAID "Break the door down..."
Thaddeus Claville |
Well, I tried to be nice. Guess we're doing things the hard way.
Worth a shot, I figured. This isn't the dungeon environment, after all. Might have been a chance we could talk or bluff our way in.
We would have alerted them anyways smashing the door down, (Which, unless the front door just looks solid, would more than likely have taken more than one round.) so trying the diplomatic route first didn't cost us much of anything.
"Mutt" |
Should I coup de grace the baboon? Part of me says to do it, another part says to leave it be, and a third part says to adopt it like Fetch.
Heh, I now imagine Mutt adopting all of the animals. :)
