"Mutt" |
Hey, quick question. Since I'm a large creature, would I be able to meet with the others downstairs? Or am I too big?
EDIT: Nevermind. I just looked at the map.
Thaddeus Claville |
Spiderbeard has stated he's not using the map for this fight. Everyone is just on the first floor as a placeholder.
GM SpiderBeard |
Yeah, no map. And Mutt - you can but you'd be subject to squeezing rules which means if you're caught on the stairs it's awkward.
"Mutt" |
Okay. Sorry about the map. Squeezing would require an escape artist check, right? Also, is it okay if I redo my move to squeeze through the opening to the floor with the others?
Fiona Sun-Touched |
Geez, did Fiona do something to make RNGesus mad?
Variel Duardlon |
Just realized I forgot to mention I was at Paizocon all weekend! Catching up now!
Fiona Sun-Touched |
Has anyone heard from Grunyn?
Thaddeus Claville |
I checked all his other accounts, and he hasn't posted in any of them in quite a while, either.
Don't tell me we're going to lose two dwarves!
--------
Spiderbeard, question: So how much damage have I suffered? Due to the recent mix-up of events and tower tumbling, I'm not sure if I've taken anything. I thought it said that I took some, but then you made the Acrobatics check to negate it. Or did I?
GM SpiderBeard |
No activity in two weeks. He's got a month before removal, I'll send him a pm in case he checks in. Thaddeus has not taken any damage. He made his acrobatics check (which I made for you), and then the subsequent one to avoid more damage.
GM SpiderBeard |
Hi guys, I'm going to make the difficult decision to put Gunryn on ice.
That said, because his app was so good, he was so intent on putting in the time for the game, and because he posted about family issues that have kept him from posting I'll keep a seat open for when he can regularly return. So he's not removed, but he's on hold. If he can come back, we're going to increase group size to six.
So that said, please welcome Roycilo to the game! I just send the PM. We haven't had any discussions about class or character yet.
Fiona Sun-Touched |
Hi, Roycilo! :)
Variel Duardlon |
Hey there, Roycilo! Welcome to the looney bin! We pride ourselves on having an atypical party. ;-)
Thaddeus Claville |
Greetings, salutations, and all that, Roycilo.
As for what to play? Well, we've got a Bloodrager, Skald, Inquisitor, and Witch, and have/had a Warpriest. The one gap I'd say we could use is a skill-focused character, especially on the rogue essentials like picking locks and searching for traps. But that's just my vote. If you have another concept you're just aching to play, I'm sure we can accommodate.
Did you have a few ideas bouncing around in your head?
Roycilo |
Well, I was talking to the GM, and I was originally thinking someone skill-based, but I actually decided on a spellcaster. That said, I'm taking a few skills that are going to be roguelike for party assistance purposes. I'm almost done, and will likely be finished by tomorrow.
I'll be able to cover the classic rogue skills, and still be spell support.
GM SpiderBeard |
Hey guys, just want to pipe in and apologize for the hamfisted way I pushed you past Gunryn's vanishing. If you so wish we can backtrack from centipede mountain and allow you some time to react, look for clues, and RP regarding his disappearance. If not we'll keep going but consider this an official My Bad.
Fiona Sun-Touched |
I'm fine either way as well.
GM SpiderBeard |
We'll push on for the sake of pacing then! Any future player departures (OF WHICH THERE WILL BE NONE) will receive a more dignified exit. :D
Thaddeus Claville |
I have a bit of a favour to ask you all. I'm considering applying for other PbP games here, and I want to make a resume' of sorts by referring to my posts, to show what I can do.
What posts of mine from here do you think show high quality RP, which is what most potential GM's would be looking for? Or perhaps some other good quality, like rules knowledge and application. You don't have to find the exact post, just mention 'that one post where you did that one thing,' and I can dig it up myself. I should be able to remember it.
The posts I was first going to use are the posts where I just wrote a lot, but didn't really interact with other players at all. That shows I can write well, but not necessarily RP well. Hence why I now ask the people I play with which posts stand out.
GM SpiderBeard |
Hey Thaddeus, I can dig some good ones up from yours and 'favorite' them. You can then just click my profile to see them. I've run a bunch of recruitments and I don't think I've seen someone do that, but it's a good idea.
Fiona Sun-Touched |
By the way, Fiona's a full-blooded Shoanti, not half.
She'd better not hear of what Shorafa thinks of her. ;)

New 2nd Level Spell: Honeyed Tongue: May roll 2 Diplomacy checks and take the higher result for 10 minutes/level!
New Class Feature: Spell Kenning!
--At 5th level, a skald is learned in the magic of other spellcasters, and can use his own magic to duplicate those classes' spells. Once per day, a skald can cast any spell on the bard, cleric, or sorcerer/wizard spell list as if it were one of his skald spells known, expending a skald spell slot of the same spell level to cast the desired spell. Casting a spell with spell kenning always has a minimum casting time of 1 full round, regardless of the casting time of the spell.

Caster Level 5th! Concentration +7!
New 1st level spell! True Strike!
New Feat! Arcane Strike!
New Class Feature!
Improved Uncanny Dodge!
At 5th level, a bloodrager can no longer be flanked. This defense denies rogues (or other classes with the sneak attack ability) the ability to sneak attack the bloodrager by flanking him, unless the attacker has at least four more rogue levels (or levels in the class granting sneak attack) than the target has bloodrager levels.
If a character already has uncanny dodge from another class, the levels from the classes that grant uncanny dodge stack when determining the minimum rogue level required to flank the character.
I decided to continue to route of the bloodrager. For a while, I was thinking about dipping into occultist (for some reason).
"Mutt" |
Yeah, I was thinking about multiclassing into occultist (with abjuration and transmutation implements), if only to have things get weirder when his axe and armor start talking to him. However, I can't see how to make an intelligence based class work when Mutt has 10 Int.
Now I'm thinking about possibly multiclassing into spiritualist, just because that class interests me. Also, I can probably come up with a story angle from it.
EDIT: Now I'm thinking about trying to pull off both. Decisions, decisions.
Ellesbeth Alianna |
Sorcerer 5!
No BAB or Save changes.
One more 2nd level spell per day.
One more 1st and 2nd level spell known:
Monkey Fish and Communal Protection from Evil
Scorching Ray as a Bloodline Spell.
HP +6
Skills:
2 Class + 1 Int, +1 Human
One each into Acrobatics, Bluff, Disable Device, and Knowledge: Arcana.
Feat: Silent Spell
"Mutt" |
So, random question. Should I take a class dip into occultist and/or spiritualist? I mean, my bloodrager effectiveness would go down. But, it could open up some possibilities.
With the occultist, I may be hurting a lot because it's an Intelligence based class and Mutt only has an Intelligence score of 10. However, my thought process is that if I take the abjuration and transmutation implements, I could be effective as a tank. It would also be interesting to have Mutt's weapons and armor talk to him.
With the spiritualist, it could be slightly more effective due to the fact that it's a Charisma based class and Mutt has a Charisma score of 12. It could be beneficial to have another person to flank and get damage. For emotions, I was thinking either anger or dedication. I'm leaning more towards dedication. I would need to invest more levels into spiritualist for the phantom to be more effective.
Let me know what you guys think.
Thaddeus Claville |
Eeeh, personally, I can't say I'm a fan of either option, and think you should just stick to Bloodrager. Bloodrager is already a Barbarian/Sorceror multiclass, trying to multiclass in a hybrid class seems kind of redundant and a bit of a mess. And neither of the abilities you mention sound terribly useful as a dip. Mutt is already dealing with having powers beyond just hitting things really hard, do you really want to throw more weirdness into the mix?
I mean, if you do, I'm not going to stop you, but I think just sticking to a single class is the better option, at least without a good bit of planning.
=====
Side note: I'm going to increase Thaddeus' listed size from 5'10 to 6'1. I envision him, and describe him, as being tall and lanky, and 5'10 seems just a little too short for me. Just a slight change on my character sheet to warn everyone about.
"Mutt" |
Hey, everyone! I just wanted to say that a Curse of the Crimson Throne game that I'm in is in need of some more players. If you are interested, the link to the recruitment thread is here.
Thaddeus Claville |
I am honestly surprised that it's being considered a good idea. Just seems like a natural progression to me. We learned Akata melt in salt water, and we have seen that bathing in salt water can 'disinfect' the wounds. (As a dip meant Mutt didn't have to check for all the injuries he took.)
I'm curious if the module mentions the possibility, or if Spiderbeard is winging it.
EDIT: And Thaddeus going for salt water was more giving Fiona time and space to work her charms on the guard.
GM SpiderBeard |
Spiderbeard is winging it, the module doesn't mention it at all. And yeah, in retrospect it's pretty damn obvious.
Variel Duardlon |
That's when things get fun - when the players go off script and the GM gets to figure it out. ;-)
Variel Duardlon |
Spiderbeard, there is a bit of cheese I forgot to ask you about:
1. Solo Tactics says that my allies count as having my teamwork feats for the purpose of my receiving benefits.
2. My familiar is an ally who is usually in my square, which counts as "adjacent".
3. Profit!
The cheese is that having a familiar means I can pretty much always count on getting my teamwork benefits, since I'll always have an adjacent ally. The cheese gets particularly smelly for things like Escape Route (which I currently swapped out), since if he rides on my shoulder, he is continuously adjacent, and there is an argument that says I never provoke AoO's from movement. I personally don't allow that particular combo, but there is a vocal group supporting it. I'm on the fence about other feats, so I figured I'd mention it and let you think about it.
GM SpiderBeard |
I'm going to say no because of Lash's size. He's too small to have that sort of impact. Part of the spirit of a feat like escape route is that you're using the presence of your allies and their threat to find a way through your enemies. A tiny creature can't threaten outside of his own square.
Or at least that's how I'm rationalizing it. It's not in the spirit of the teamwork feats is the real reason.
Variel Duardlon |
That's why I asked.
And you'll notice I called it cheese to begin with. :-)
Thaddeus Claville |
So, treasure from Clegg Zincher:
-Devil's Elbow treasure map
-Business Ledgers for Clegg Zincher's business.
- 2,240 gold (in platinum)
- 35 pounds of noqual ore he's managed to collect so far
- Eight beryls, four rubies, and a black pearl worth approximately 820 gold
- a pickaxe +1
- 2 potions cure moderate wounds
- 2 flasks acid
- 20 alchemist's fires
- +1 studded leather armour
- amulet of natural armour +1
- belt of giant strength +2
Bolded treasure is the stuff we should divvy up now.
Belt of Giant's Strength should obviously go to one of the front liners. Mutt seems the obvious choice, unless somebody else thinks they can put it to better use.
A frontliner that doesn't get the Belt should get the Amulet of Natural Armour.
Looking through everyone's gear, I'm not sure anybody would want the Studded Leather. Mutt has a +1 Mithril Chain shirt, Fiona has chainmail, and Variel has a MW Chain shirt that provides the exact same bonus already. At best, it's PJ's for Fiona. (Since you can sleep in light armour without penalty.)
Anybody want the +1 Pickaxe? An odd weapon, but still a Martial weapon.
Two potions of CMW. I think one should go to Mutt, and one to Ellesbeth.
I'll take a flask of acid. As for the Alchemist's fire, I think everybody should take at least two of those. We can leave the rest here for the Mages and thugs to use, honestly.
