"The medicine is still good for a cur like you!" he roars at the end of his spell, his finger pointing at the anti-plague spilled on the floor. "LICK IT UP!"

Doom: A shaken character takes a –2 penalty on attack rolls, saving throws, skill checks, and ability checks.

Donnell quickly exchanges the vial in his hand for an extract, which he quickly sloshes into his mouth before spitting rapidly expanding strands of goo at Devargo.

Did they Sneak Attack me from being Flat-Footed? I'm a barbarian, I get uncanny dodge. Looking at the numbers, I'm guessing the damage is only 5. Unless they sneak attack for some other reason.

Thod was somewhat tense, as a good guard is trained to do. He raised his eyebrows at Sevenspawn's declaration, honestly quite impressed at his words. Which ones he picked out. He couldn't quite understand what was going on, who had betrayed or ratted out who.

But then there were declarations of war, and everything went out the window. And some thugs came in the door. One managed to get a strike on Thod, but he whipped around (I assume) to dodge the worst of it.

Thod turns to the goons behind him, giving a hearty laugh. "FINALLY! Diplomacy I can relate to!"

Thod rages, uses his move to activate Guarded Stance, (+1 Dodge AC) uses Power Attack, and swings at the thug to the right with his halberd.

Attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13
Damage: 1d10 + 13 ⇒ (2) + 13 = 15

I have moved Sevenspawn to the side of the door, one square diagonally back, so that he's against the wall for cover from the thugs and can touch either Raven Six or Thod for buffing. Just wanted to mention it as I'd forgotten to move before now. Also, Spiderbeard -
has the hag's effects on SS worn off?

@Sevenspawn - nope! Stat damage wears off (slowly) overnight or with lesser restoration spells, which you can cast but may not have memorized.

@Donnell - You cannot cast, and use adhesive spittle in the same round. Standard to cast, standard to use.

@Thod - you are correct sir. 5 damage only.

Thod's ire, and joy is awakened as he realizes that this group is finally, FINALLY dealing with diplomatic situations in a style he approves of. He turns around and completely skewers a thug with a halberd, killing him instantly.

Sevenspawn calls upon the Everbloom, and the Goddess smiles upon him today. A new society is built from the ashes of cruel power-mongers like the King of Spiders. He screams as he is doomed by the gods.

And then again as Raven Six throws a bomb at him. You hear shouts as reinforcements start to run in, although not as many as Eel's End would normally have. The plague has affected everything.

Seeing that nobody is approaching him, and he's a sitting duck, Devargo snarls and lunges for Raven Six with his spiked gauntlets. She is grazed by them, but thankfully the poison doesn't cause any malfunctions.

Standing behind Raven Six, Sevenspawn touches her on the shoulder, casting Aid to help her in her endeavours.

Aid grants the target a +1 morale bonus on attack rolls and saves against fear effects, plus temporary hit points equal to 1d8 + caster level.

He continues to present his holy symbol, digging into the arcane might of Milani once more as he looks to Thod.

Thod sighs as puny mortals charge for him, and he sends another thug to an early grave. Devargo continues to snarl and attack while his thugs run up to Thod, one of which gives Thod a hearty wallop with a club. Raven Six gets cut again by Devargo, and once more she resists his poison.

Raven Six grunts at the injury, but once again swings her mace, seeking to hammer Devargo into the floorboards!

Seeing her attack miss, the Alchemist hisses between her teeth - and whips a black vial out of her sleeve, tossing its contents back in one gulp! The effects are immediate and startling; Raven Six grows several inches in height, her body filling out her robes and armour as her hair grows wild, curly and red!

"Right then," Raven Six says, a merry grin on her lips and battle frenzy in her suddenly blue eyes as she takes her mace in a two-handed grip. "ROUND THREE!"

Move action to drink mutagen. +4 to Str. -2 to Int. +2 to AC.

Still standing behind Raven Six, Sevenspawn touches her back with his previously hit-or-miss wand and heals her.

He gives a slight nod to it and scans the room - especially upwards - for Devargo's pets - preparing to alert the others if he sees something.

The spiders are all running around chaotically, but none of them seem large enough to cause any significant damage.

However, he does notice something interesting. The outline of a trap door on the floor, which Devargo is currently standing on.

Donnell and Raven Six both msis their attacks while Sevenspawn keeps the group healed up.

Thod continues swinging away at the thugs, though he is distracted when Raven Six grows to giant size. His eyes widen in surprise, especially as she suddenly takes to combat like... well, like he does.

Thod executes another thug, and seeing that there are not nearly as many guards as normal. The thug staring at Thod takes a moment to reconsider his life choices.

Snarling, Devargo swipes at Raven Six and takes a step back once more. This time his attack misses, as Raven's concoction makes her skin as tough as leather!

The thug facing Thod sees his boss cornered, and realizes that there's not too much help coming. Everyone is sick and dying.

"I... I..."

His face screws up into a scowl. "F~&+ YOU BARVASI AND F$@@ YOUR STUPID SPIDERS!"

He angrily pelvic thrusts at his former boss before he turns tail and bolts.

Thod lets the goon run. They were so easy to kill he was starting to feel bad.

He then turns to Devargo. "Never killed a king before. Don't know why I said that, 'cause I ain't gonna kill a king soon, either."

Not sure if that's high enough for the pit trap, but it is high enough for the lever.

Thod was about to charge, but remembers seeing Devargo's hand resting on something deliberately. Dwarven suspicion manages to get through his normally boisterous mind. He instead loops around, moving around Raven's rather sizeable form to get at Devargo from the side.

MOVE: Maneuver around by going through Raven Six and Sevenspawn's spaces.
ATTACK: Swing at Devargo. Full power attack and everything.

Devargo lets out a proper scream of terror as Thod charges for him, avoiding the trap door before almost falling the criminal mastermind with a powerful blow!

A crossbow bolt then flies in, and Devargo slaps at his neck, wobbles a little... but keeps on fighting! Finally, Raven Six moves in for the kill, but doesn't know her own strength and her attack misses wildly.

Devargo realizes that he's in a very, very bad spot. Swearing, he yanks the lever beside him, causing a trap door to open up. Making an obscene gesture to Sevenspawn, he leaps into the trap door into a pit below!

"LOOK OUT CHITTERS WE'RE PAYING A VISIT!"

He plunges into the darkness. Thod looks down and sees a room absolutely choked with cobwebs. Devargo has landed on his feet. Three large spiders skitter around the room, as well as a... strange-looking creature. It looks like a man with a spider's face. If that man was really, really, really fat.

Knowledge Dungeoneering DC 13:

The creature is an ettercap, solitary, cowardly hunters who live in forests eating whomever comes by. They notably have the ability to control spiders and love setting traps.

If you wish to pursue you can jump down the trapdoor. As well, there are stairs in this room which lead down to the same area.

Sevenspawn grunts at the response, having moved up to the trap door.

"Prepare for the Everbloom's blessing," he says to the others, closing his eyes and producing his holy symbol in his hand as he heals the team.

He opens his eyes. "We must go after him, of course." He begins to speak lowly, preparing another spell.

Whipping out a vial that emits a faint blue light, Donnell hucks it at an angle into the pit under his friend's feet so that they won't be affected by the glow unless that's not possible, in which case he'll throw alchemist's fire.

Within Thod's mind, a short battle rages. He sees the King of Spiders flee down a pit, now joined by some... ugly thing. And a lot of spiders. As well, he sees wisdom as his allies simply shoot and drop bombs down the pit. Really, there's nothing stopping him from just standing at the top and throwing javelins, or just poking with his halberd, safely out of range as the pit fills with firebombs. Perfectly sensible and reasonable.

But it's not fun.

"GRRRAAAHHHH!!"

In a moment of boisterous, bullheaded stupidity, Thod leaps down into the pit to continue the fight up close and personal.

I fail the DC 15 Acrobatics to not take damage, but by jumping intentionally, I do turn the first 1d6 into subdual. I'm guessing it's a 10 foot drop?

Or, more accurately, Thod runs towards the pit and lets gravity does its thing. Unfortunately, he had a bit too much forward momentum, and ends up landing hard on the ground on his face. He quickly picks himself up, giving a boisterous laugh.

Not sure where I'll land moving into the pit. Below Devargo, or on top of him? Either way.

Sevenspawn sends forth a burst of the Everbloom's healing magic while Donnell and Raven Six encircle the trapdoor and start hurling bombs down. Raven Six's bomb connects solidly with Devargo, who shrieks as the area goes up in flames, burning off the webs.

Donnell's bomb then goes off in an insane flash of light, brightening the dark area. Chaos immediately breaks out as the spiders and Devargo are affected.

Then Thod lets out an almighty holler as he cannonballs into the pit, landing right on his face, but thanks to Devargo's complete confusion, he manages to get up without provoking an attack!

Devargo is completely stunned by the bomb and just babbles like an idiot. Two of the spiders successfully kill themselves thanks to the fire, and gnawing off their own limbs. The ettercap bangs its head on the floor while the giant spider leaps onto its back, failing to do much damage to it.

Thod laughs boisterously and continues his assault, swinging his halberd in very unprofessional (But very painful) ways. He really gets into the fight, pressing the assault into Devargo, looking energised as he attacks.

Sevenspawn's crossbow goes wide, and Devargo deflects Raven Six's bomb, which goes off adjacent to him, good enough to hurt Devargo, the ettercap, and Thod. Donnell's alchemist's fire follows Raven Six's attack, and smashes onto Chittersnap, who does not catch fire.

Devargo screams again at the bomb and spins to leap at Thod. He lunges through the air... and lands perfectly on Thod's glaive. Thod roars, and flips Devargo overhead, pinning him onto the ground and killing him instantly.

The ettercap and spider are still very much in the fight though, and Chittersnap lets out a "DAAAAADDYYYY!!!" as the morbidly obese ettercap wails its misery. It wobbles over to Thod before leaping at him in a rage. Thod catches a claw as the ettercap swipes wildly at him. The huge spider then rears up, and Thod is covered in sticky webbing.

A voice sounds out right beside Sevenspawn, startling him. "Well aware of that. Sorry for not helping out. It makes things simpler."

BOOM

Raven Six hurls another bomb, which slams heavily into the giant spider, killing it outright!

Donnell leaps into the air, the emaciated little halfling showing some incredible athletic skill as he swipes out with his shortsword, freeing Thod from the spider's webbing.

Roaring as he continues his spectacular rampage, Thod lunges for the ettercap, stepping back for space.

Thodulate!: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14 Damage: 1d10 + 13 ⇒ (2) + 13 = 15

His attack pierces the enormous, bloated ettercap which lets out a shriek, collapsing. Spinning his glaive around, he slams it into its abdomen. It chitters wildly and lets out a daaaadddyyy... before it dies.

Sevenspawn does indeed start, but doesn't turn his attention that way immediately. He nods once as the action continues. "Understood. I trust that you will report that he attacked us first, and his death necessary in his madness."

As the ettercap dies, Sevenspawn loads his crossbow again and looks to Raven Six. She is a disturbing sight, and his face belays this, but still his friend, however new.

"No. We loot the place, bottom to top." He looks to where Parni roughly was standing. "If you feel there is something owed for egging him on, I will willing try to make amends to your people. But perhaps the knowledge that Eel's End is ripe for a new leader - a position I am sure the Society can fill - is enough...?"

Glancing around for the invisible Parni, she adds: "Here, miss. Your people do a bit of alchemy on the side, right? Little helpmeets for jobs? Wouldya pass the word that we're looking for folks with the knowing of the Art Alchemical to help brew antiplague? Might be longterm jobs in it for those as want them, if all goes right. More to the point, we might need ya to pass the word not to hit the workhouses when they go up. They're for the good of the whole city, after all."

Raven Six doesn't look particularly monstrous. ^^ Just taller, more muscular, and with different colour hair and eyes. Think less Mr. Hide, more She-Hulk. :D

Muttering under his breath: "...which is what we should have done the first time we came here..."

That's cool! . I like to play SS's reactions to other PCs as much as possible as my way to recognize everyone's character efforts. Raven Six is already odd-looking; I was going for a "she's more odd-looking than ever" kind-of-thing. Great character!

Parni fades into existence, and with a little flip she hops down into the den.

"So he had a tubby ettercap controlling the spiders for him. Was always wondering how he did that... hrm."

She clambers her way back up, and settles down in his makeshift chair as she looks at all of you. "Well now, that was fun. Frankly, I don't blame you for losing your temper. He threw first, that's all I care about. Frankly I could have tried to put him down myself but if my hands are clean of the fight it's... easier. We stay neutral."

Parni looks over the place, pursing her lips. "I think you also killed his supply of shiver by blowing up those spiders. Still though, he runs an okay brothel and a fine casino. Hrrm..."

She looks at the four of you. "You go loot and use what you can. If you want to offer us control of these fine establishments, then perhaps we can help with your antiplague scheme. If you don't mind all of your alchemists being poisoners." She grins.

Like kids in a particularly creepy candy store, you pat down Devargo, his guards, and grab everything you can. You find the following on the King of Spiders himself:

- 1 potion cure moderate wounds
- 1 potion invisibility
- 4 doses of spider venom
- +1 studded leather armor
- 2 mwk spiked gauntlets
- 79 gp
- a couple of keys

Exploring the rest of the main boat you find Devargo's bedroom, which loses the spider theme to be a clean room with a nice four-poster bed. A sea chest is within the room containing the following:

- a jasper studded amulet (500 gp)
- a gold necklace fitted with emeralds (600 gp)
- a mother-fo-pearl horn (50 gp)
- a ring of feather fall (with a cameo of a dragonfly in jade)
- a scroll of blur
- an elixir of love
- two pouches of dust of disappearance
- 600 gp

Further into the ship, you find a high-quality, fully working alchemy lab. Here is where the greatest supplier of shiver in the city did his work. As well as the lab, you find six doses of shiver.

Elated with finding the alchemy lab, Donnell looks for any alchemical or poison formulae that might help with his own research. On finding the shiver, he will gruffly turn to Raven Six: "Destroy that filth. Or, if you must, keep it for your experiments, but keep me out of it."

Having finished off all significant threats, Thod beats his chest a few times, giving out a sound halfway in between a boisterous laugh and a scream of victory. He walks upstairs, carrying corpses and crushing a few straggler spiders along the way.

Upstairs, he gives Raven a bit of an askew glance.

"You're, uh... Lookin' a bit different there, Rave. Sounding a bit different, too. Didn't know you had such a warrior's spirit in you. Like my grandfather always said: 'Thod, you're as ugly as a rock, and twice as dumb.' No, wait, that was what he told me after I smashed the kitchen table. He said 'Thod, a good woman is like a battle axe...' Uhh, something about a sharp edge?"

As expected, Thod forgets what he was talking about, and starts trying to remember childhood memories.
