Kawrock of the Phoenix Clan |
Kawrock flies after the fleeing troll and continues to harass the creature with fire bolts from the air.

GM SpiderBeard |
Corrected Arval's hp.
Whiskeyjack and Arval swing out mightily at the troll in front of them, and it finally collapses to the ground from the last attack, the flames from their weapons sealing its fate.
Kawrock swoops around, sending out another bolt of fire. The huge troll is an easy target and it shrieks and cries as it is burned.
The final troll is fleeing. Let me know if you wish to pursue. Otherwise, combat ends.
Vladlena |
Where is it going to go? lena wonders as she looks at the fleeing troll. Before it was the schloss and its defences. still, we'll find out if they were besieging or defending the place.
Looking back at the trolls she casts a spell, detect magic, examining them for magic. Once done ( and aquired) she says, dump them into the water below. It should finish them.
She looks down. a nice drop.
Wren the FeatherMage |
Wren squawks about, clucking and looking for more trolls and other monstrous beings. She grouses about her rumpled feathers and tenderized flesh.
"These trolls remind me...blahblahblah...the more seductive, the bigger...blahblahblah...not just zombies, but zombie escorts...blahblahblah...lots of time in Kaer Maga...blahblahblah...but huge engorged pineapples...blahblahblah...and that's when it was time to pick flowers," Wren explains.
She pulls out her unused Wand of CLW and asks someone to use it on her.
1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9 CLW
And then she sees to Arval's wounds.
1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9 CLW

End of Combat
The final troll manages to pop out of the cramped path and runs screaming off into the distance while Wren gets her wand used on the rest of the group.
The gateway leading to Schloss Caromac remains open. The perfectly still golem dog lies at the opposite end of a precarious bridge, and shivering at the edge is one lone goblin who did not manage to run.
He looks at all of you and screams again.
"DON'T EAT ME!!"
Kawrock of the Phoenix Clan |
Kawrock flies down to receive some of the healing offered. Then takes to the air again to scout out the rest of the castle from the air.
Perception: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (11) + 13 = 24
Sorry Wren most of my damage wasn't fixed up from a previous encounter. Going back over the last fight Kawrock only took 7 damage from a troll hound. So feel free to take back some of those charges.
GM SpiderBeard |
Kawrock spreads his wings, soaring through the air as he looks over the crashing waterfall and the bizarre home built over it as the goblin collapses to his knees, still begging not to be eaten.
Three buildings, all in all, make up the Schloss Caromarc.
Immediately north of the gatehouse, across the guarded bridge is a fine, fortified manse. It appears to be in good condition. Through the windows he can see bedrooms on the upstairs, and living quarters int he downstairs. On the top floor is a balcony before a closed door.
Across a narrow walkway north of the manse is a workshop which has had a massive hole blown in its side. Inside are the remains of an alchemist's workshop. It looks like a stone bridge once connected it to the westernmost building, but it has collapsed and a rope bridge now stands in its place.
To the northwest is a squat stone building with an impressive tower arching into the sky. A spiral staircase is attached to the outside of the tower, dangerously at the edge of the crashing waterfall.
Finally, to the northwest across the waterfall an exposed, winding, narrow pathway climbs the bare rock face to a strange series of four interconnected towers that appear flooded. Slightly west of the four towers to the north a grand stone bridge arches over a gorge to a stack of rock, upon which perches a high tower topped with a lightning rod.
Whew. I have updated the map, changed the obscured top floors, exposed the workshop, and added some annotations so you know what is what.
Kawrock of the Phoenix Clan |
Kawrock lands next to the group and shift back into his normal form. "Looks like there are several buildings past this gate house. One of them appears to have a partially exploded alchemy lab." Kawrock goes on to explain what he saw from the air.
Wren the FeatherMage |
Wren looks at the exploded workshop from a far, eager to look inside.
Does it look like the workshop was blown in or blown out? Silly question, I'm sure...but you never know.
Wren follows Kawrock and the team as they move up to explore.
"Well, we should keep moving. No telling if that troll will come back with friends."
GM SpiderBeard |
Blown out. An explosion from within took out the wall.
The group make their way to the bridge. The goblin who had been cowering simply bolts away from the group, and runs screaming into the distance.
A slender stone bridge arches gracefully over a roaring waterfall here, linking the gatehouse to a fortified manor house clinging to the cliff on the far side.
As everyone begins to step onto the bridge, the golem hound raises back its head and begins a loud, rhythmic barking.

Lena looks at the goblin. Run away. We won't hurt you unless you stay. So run.
She looks over the bridge. Oh, a golem dog. We fought one of those before, didn't we? I wonder if someone is selling them?.
She shakes her head
from what I remember, my spells are useless against that thing. It's up to our thumpers. Wren, don't waste your magic on it.

As Wren steps out onto the bridge and moves closer to the hound, it stops barking and then silently attacks!
That said, her general knowledge of the arcane leads her to believe that she is currently being eaten by a variant flesh golem. She can't recall too much more about flesh golems aside from their general immunity to magic. However, Wren and the rest of the group are far quicker than the hound, and can react before it does!

Round 1, Init 12
Seeing the beast get very agitated, probably because of something Arval did, Wren squawks like a chicken avoiding the fox in the henhouse, retreating as fast as her flapping arms and legs will move her.
"It's going to get me! It's going to get me!"

Arval remains where he is and stands ready to chop at the dog should it come closer.

Pretty much. But with more high pitched screaming and squawking. Wren is a delicate ol' bird.
Wren tries to unruffle her feathers, greatly annoyed at the big, barky dog.
Eldon Appleton |

Eldon, his rapier now sheathed, places his hand on his chin and nods. "Aha, another one of those doggies. Just to make sure you all remember how to deal with it, I'll remind you of the incredibly useful information I gave you earlier."
Eldon then starts repeating the same anecdote about his granny's dog, convinced that it'll help the others to defeat the creature on the bridge.
Inspire Courage +2 is up!
GM SpiderBeard |
The golem dog charges straight down the bridge, and leaps through the air hammering itself into Arval's chest! Arval goes flying backwards, slamming into Lena and nearly taking the small halfling off of her feat.

I KNEW there was something I missed. Also, the fire blessing would be out. Kawrock's flyabout took more than a minute.
Whiskeyjack and Arval both swing out as the hound charges in. Arval scores a solid while Whiskeyjack's two swings bounce off of its tough exterior.

Kawrock of the Phoenix Clan |
Kawrock looks over the sides of the bridge. "Perhaps we should fall back and fight this thing in doors to avoid getting knocked off into the water below." Kawrock says as he moves back inside the tower.
GM SpiderBeard |
Eldon maintains his inspire courage. The hound hops over the gap in front of Wren, turns, and hammers itself into Arval once more!
CMB: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (12) + 13 = 25
It hammers its head into Arval once more, knocking the big warrior back. However, with the boulder-like dwarf behind him, Arval simply crashes into Whiskeyjack without enough force to move them both. The waterfall churns, a straight 100 foot drop below.
Another AoO from Arval and everyone is up!
Eldon Appleton |
"...with that said, I went on stage and told the best story I'd ever told. A feat I've repeated many times over since, because I increasingly become more epic with the day. The story was called 'Eldon Appleton and the epic tale of his epic prowess,' and everyone present was greatly inspired, moved, and impressed!"
While chatting Eldon moves behind Arval, convinced he can keep Arval in place with the same ease Whiskeyjack did a moment earlier.
Inspire Courage +2 continues.

Blinking as he's knocked back as well, Arval swings out mightily, his sword cleaving upwards into the golem hound's tough flesh. His sword rips straight through, sending the top half of the flesh golem sailing through the air, and to the river below.
End of Combat
GM SpiderBeard |
The golem dog is appropriately chastised, and the bridge now allows for unimpeded access to the manor house.
The arched bridge ends at a small cobbled terrace with a curious looking
iron door depicting a scowling sun being devoured by ravenous clouds. To the left, two hundred feet below, a huge waterfall plummets into the depths.
Vladlena |
that's a long drop. Let's not make it.
GM SpiderBeard |
Guys, I just did some calculations, consulted some entrails, heard the voices of the spirits, and saw that the crowd flew west. DING! that golem dog was enough to put you at level five!
Wren the FeatherMage |
Guys, I just did some calculations, consulted some entrails, heard the voices of the spirits, and saw that the crowd flew west. DING! that golem dog was enough to put you at level five!
I thought we already were level 5. :)
Wren chirps happily as the golem dog is dispatched.
"Can this really be the way that Stitches came? Do you think the trolls would let him pass?" Wren wonders, looking over her companions for injuries.
Wren does a quick inspection of the door for magical auras (with Detect Magic) and then allows others to open it.

She still grips her wand tightly in hand.
GM SpiderBeard |
Level six then. :P I'VE HAD A DAY.
Wren casts her detect magic and notices a magical aura. After a short wait there is clearly a magical aura on the door.
There is a powerful summon monster IV spell on the door, set to summon an air elemental. It appears to be activated by touching the door.
Wren the FeatherMage |
"It's evil! Don't touch it!" Wren says pointing at the door even as she continues her scan of the aura.
1d20 + 12 ⇒ (16) + 12 = 28 Know (Arcana)
"Conjuration magic! It'll summon something...we should be cautious," Wren states. "Especially on this narrow bridge with a long long drop!"
Wren begins to backtrack to a wider and more protected part of the bridge.
Moved Wren indoors.
"I can try to open it at a distance, if we don't have other options."
Open/close at a range of 55' or so.
Arval Beyondane |
Typos everywhere! Yaaay level 6!!!
"If it's magic I'm not going close to that door..."
Arval says as he stays at a safe distance.
"This is a nasty and weird place, no wonder the thing looked like he looked if he came from here..."
Vladlena |
Yes we are now level 6. Do we level now?
Lena's eyes light up with understanding.
whiskyjack, you're a warpriest, think like a war. Or more precise, a siege. The trolls held the gatehouse, the inner keep is held by the golem dog...and whatever scared wren on the door. Hmmm.
Lena casts detect magic and walks up and looks at the door.
