Eldon takes his crossbow of his back and pops out the regular arrow that was loaded on it. He reaches into his backpack and takes out one of the +1 ghost touch arrows the party retrieved from a certain tomb a loooong time ago. As he loads the magic arrow onto his crossbow, Eldon takes a big step toward the doorway.

"Do not fret! I carry with me one of the magic arrows I obtained way back, when I was asked to investigate Harrowstone!"

Nice catch on the old equipment Eldon.

Arval attacks the spectre in front of him brutally - his enchanted sword feels partial resistance as it cuts through the incorporeal undead. Combined with Wren's magic missile, he manages to slay the creature.

Lena waits, unable to find a clear line of sight to the spectre due to the crowded doorway. The spectre swipes at Kawrock again, but the tough tengu resists the drain on his life force!

Alas the spectres guarded nothing except their privacy, and you move on to the last area of the top floor - the master bedroom.

You move to the double doors, and after listening, discover nothing.

A large four-poster bed sits next to a wide fireplace. The bed has been stripped of covers, but its rotten feather mattress still remains and bears a large, dark stain in the center. The wooden headboard once depicted a scene of ships battling upon the waves, but is now cracked with age and the elements, and large gashes further mar its surface. A wheeled chair with a moldy seat and warped wheels stands at the foot of the bed. A stairway winds up to the east into the dome above the manor house.

As you step into the room, you notice something strange. It's hard to focus on them, but out of the corner of your eye horrific, deformed hounds seem to shudder into existence. It is hard to look at them, as if reality itself is fighting against their presence. Your mind reels. However, they are going to eat you, and the fight is on!

Knowledge Planes DC 22:

These strange creatures are Hounds of Tindalos. Extraplanar predators from beyond the bounds of known reality, typically an accident of reckless summoners. Their mere presence can drive someone mad.

Knowledge Planes DC 27:

Hounds of Tindalos use dimensional space in strange ways, and can only teleport where there are fixed angles. Their gaze can rip people apart, and are immune to mind-affecting spells and poison.

Seeing Wren squawking about gave Whiskeyjack a bit of a headache. The attic has nothing nasty in it, and Arval heads in to explore the place. It's a small space along the edge of the dome, cramped and crowded with boxes of old personal paraphernalia, which is now ruined and worthless. A small window provides a view of the grounds behind the house.

However, Arval does find a book, wrapped in a blanket, and hidden among the crates.

The book is old, and bound in cracked hide so thick it may be that of a whale. Within the book is an ancient, strange language.

Ancient Azlanti, or Linguistics DC 30:

This is the Book of Abstruse Geometries. Leafing through it, it is a tome crammed with secrets of dimensions and spaces beyond conventional mortal understanding. It is infuriatingly vague, full of riddles, allusion, and formulae. Within these secrets are hints towards the vistas found there, and the creatures that dwell therein.

Furthermore, this is a spellbook with the following arcane spells:

- contact other plane
- phase door
- planar binding
- symbol of insanity

Finally, it contains elaborate instructions for the summoning and binding of dimensional shamblers, strange extraplanar vagabonds who are notoriously difficult to summon. Formulae exist for the summoning of dozens of different varieties of the creatures.

Reading this entire book would take at least a week's worth of time. It is likely valuable insights on the Dark Tapestry and its inhabitants could be gleaned from study.

All that remains now is the cupola atop the manor. As you try to figure out the book, the area around you seems to thrum with power and the massive menhirs grow warm.

1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25 Linguistics

Wren examines the book, but can't make feather nor talon of it. She packs it away for later examination...possibly with a scroll of read languages or the like. I think she can take 20 with Linguistics to eventually decipher the book, but should take some time.

She nods happily in Kawrock's direction as if she might be happy for the help.

It's hot? Magic, maybe. Cast detect magic and looks at the menhir. She feels the thrum of power, and gets jumpy.
Ah, any magic here is likely to be nasty, I think. We should back off. Kinda now.
And she starts moving away a bit.

Not waiting to find out Kawrock listens to Lena and starts bolting for the door.

Sorry for missing a day, life is b!*$!&% insane. Azlanti is ancient Azlanti. Like the distinction between Latin and Ancient Latin ;)

Wren tries to figure out what is going on with the menhirs. There is obviously some sort of very, very old magic at work here. However it doesn't seem like they're doing anything. Just sort of responding to changes. Perhaps opening the book, perhaps something else. Despite Wren's own considerable arcane knowledge, she can only speculate.

The only area left to explore in the house is the widow's walk in the dome up top. You all file up the stairs, and swing open the trapdoor.

A railed widow’s walk stands atop the manor’s dome, looking
out over the surrounding marsh. The bricks lining the floor of this cupola are sunken as if from a great impact. In the center of this shallow crater lies a mangled and gore-spattered corpse in the shredded remains of red and green finery. A trapdoor provides access to the house below.

The widow's walk was weirdly proportioned so I've turned it into 3x3 squares - also so I can fit y'all up there. Map updated.

He says while facing the other way, looking out over the swamp.

"Perhaps this one made the giant angry?" Kawrock offers as a theory. "So did we find anything that leads us to our missing sausage effagie or are we just taking the hatchling back?"

Wren recoils from the shattered and wrecked corpse.

"W'Jack, what happened? Who...?" Wren asks, wondering what happened in this manor of ill life.

"All this gore reminds me of the first time...blahblahblah...so shy, harding wanting to remove her...blahblahblah...and inserted it a bit too rough...blahblahblah...wrong edge forward...blahblahblah...couldn't sit for a week!...blahblahblah...and I said 'MOM!, it's my body and I can do what I want with it!'...blahblahblah...and that's *the* best recipe for ratatouille."

You take a look over the body with the help of a light spell. It has been a long day and the sun has set during your battles indoors.

It looks like he was killed rather unpleasantly by falling from a great height. Whiskeyjack also notes that he looks a great deal like the cleric that almost killed him, as well as a vizier that you fought in the temple. Like a relative, perhaps the son of the cleric.

Kawrock's brief scrutiny of the book shows the symbols to be a close match - these were for summoning, and in some way related to the dark tapestry.

A dark shadow passes overhead, momentarily blocking out the light of the stars and the moon.

Whiskeyjack stepped back from the bosy and pulled out his flask. Tipping it upward, he looked skyward for just a moment. That was all the time it took to see the dark shape blotting out the sky above. The brief spate of darkness above was enough to tweak every danger sense Whiskeyjack had.

"Back inside, quickly! There be somethin' flyin' abou' up there. If'n i' weren't responsible fer killin' this one, I be eatin' me helmet."

Whiskeyjack ushered the others towards the trapdoor.

Move it, folks!

After connecting the symbols to some sort of dark tapestry he begins to scan the skies just in time to see the dark shape pass in front of the moon. Given the size he has no problems listening to Whiskey Jack's advise. "Wren or Eldon if either of you know about summoning magic perhaps we can use this book to figure out what that is out side."

Kawrock is willing to translate the book to aid Wren or Eldon with a knowledge check.
