Kawrock would absolutely know what an elephant is, not only being from Tien Xa but also because he has a banging knowledge nature skill.
The hangman's tree has weird grappling rules. THe idea is the vines grapple you at a distance, and then pull you in 5' per round. But you could also reasonably attack the vines, and there aren't rules for that. So I had to wing it. It's dead anyways ;)

I haven't had a lot of spare time to make posts during the past couple of days. My apologies for that! I will resume posting tomorrow.
Eldon Appleton |
It took a bit longer than I expected, but I'm back! :)
Eldon Appleton |
I've been coughing and feeling icky the past couple of days. I'm going to bed early today and will resume posting tomorrow.
Vladlena |
hope you are better soon
GM SpiderBeard |
And another note, I expect posting will be slow for these next two weeks. If people can't post, no biggie.
Vladlena |
Christmas is a big distraction.
Vladlena |
Merry Christmas all.
Vladlena |
Happy new year from Australia
Vladlena |
Hey, look at this. I wish i could afford something like that.
Eldon Appleton |
Happy new year!
Arval and I played on a flat screen a while ago and it worked awesomely! It's just the table part that we're currently missing during tabletop games.
GM SpiderBeard |
Happy new year! And that game is sweet. I want to move to a flat screen, although a guy I game with works at a geography tech place, and so has a giant map printer. So that and pawns keeps me going :)
GM SpiderBeard |
I maaay have just snagged all of those beautiful shattered star maps you made for my game. Thanks! :D
GM SpiderBeard |
Okay, game is on hold for just a second. Wren, can you articulate what you think went wrong? I'm happy to let people re-do actions since this is an issue of the format hampering party discussion, rather than that discussion not taking place.
Wren the FeatherMage |
Since you asked...
Uh, the usual PbP stuff went wrong...communication that is more easily handled if we were Face2Face gaming. It can be a bit harder to coordinate when everyone is slower in posting and distracted and unclear when they do.
I thought only Kawrock was going out (in whatever form) he was going to take and set fire to the demon-wolf building and try to get them out to face the undead.
However, it's very clear that Kawrock didn't describe that well (or was on a different plan), nor describe his form, nor trying to be unseen. I can't speak for what Kawrock intended, though. His post is pretty sparse...so I can see how you described it the way you did.
In F2Face, we would have discussion about trying to pen in fire-resistant (immune?) wolves into a confined spot...and found a different plan.
In short, the problem occurred because of sparse posting, insufficient detail in the posts, and some people thinking different things were happening.
To fix it, people need to post more often and be more clear with their intents and actions to be sure we're all on the same page.
Btw, Wren/I made mistakes here as well. I could have made more an effort to organize a plan, but sometimes I want others to lead and participate.
Vladlena |
I do not think much of the current idea.
The undead are 200 feet away, so if we just set fire to the mill they will simply relocate. Or move to the inn next door. Zombies/skeletons won't catch them if the wolfmen don't won't to fight. My impression was we would force them out and destroy them. One door is all they have to exit. We bottleneck them there and hammer them. Once we have killed them we have reinforcements to take on the way.
If all we are going to do is set the mill on fire and nothing else, we may as well let kawrock do it by himself, with the rest of us hiding in the inn, or even back with the other werewolves. As he flies, they won't track him (remember that they have scent ability). I don't think that it will achieve much, unless the gm is feeling very generous.
I feel a direct attack, setting the mill alight, getting the demon wolves in a bottleneck (remember, one door) and hammering them is a better idea, then pulling back from the undead hoard. Lena can slow the undead with black tentacles, if needed. It does require a high fire power approach, with all spell casters committing. We have a strong evocation focus in our party, we should use it.
Of course, I'm ok if the party decides against that. But i think the bold path is better than dragging it out.
Arval Beyondane |
@Lena I didn't get that at all from what you posted :/ I thought we were going to do a sneak attack and lure them out, letting them think it was their enemy that attacked. You only posted the following as your plan:
then let's burn them out. Mills can be rather flammable.
Just before attacking, lena casts shield on herself, and sights the mill. fireball i think. Through a window if I can.
I also think there is a huge flaw in your plan, and that is an army of skeletons in our back. We kill the demon wolves, are weakened, and the whispering way finishes us off. The same plan we had for them.
I would also like to clear our current location. I said it might be a good idea to go east of the broken tower. We haven't decided yet on where we are currently going, or staying if we stay inside the inn.
On the fixing part, I don't think people will post more often. The posts do need to be more precise and clear. And Wren, I don't think you're to blame here because you didn't make the plan more clear. We are with 6 here, well... 5 and a scatterbrain ;P
Vladlena |
Well, "burn them out" means "make them flee a burning building into our waiting swords."
I agree the plan was not well articulated, but the plan can still be done. It is a factor of time. Undead like zombies and such are mindless, so the leaders need to take note. 200 feet is a minus 19 on perception chexks so thay may not notice for a few rounds. Then they must travel the distance. That gives us up to a minute to take out the demon wolves. Then we break contact.
Interesting idea. if the leaders of the undead hoard can be so easily distracted and send all of it to a burning building, then we now know how to hit their base. light a fire and wait for them to leave.
Arval Beyondane |
The last might work but is very risky on our part.
So you want:
+-14 rounds to kill the demon wolves
Run, heal and circle around the broken tower
Set the tower on fire and wait for the bosses to come out
Kill them and the hoard of undead, assuming the last die with their masters.
If I get it right.
Eldon Appleton |
What I get from the post Kawrock just made is that he's acting according to the plan to set fire to the mill while we wait in the inn. I think we need to discuss the plan a bit more before we settle on anything, but I still think that's the best plan.
The Demon Wolves will be forced out of the mill, and (as we've already seen happen) the Whispering Way will react by sending skeletons their way. I expect the skeletons to arrive by the time the Demon Wolves have actually all managed to get outside, or to at least be close to the mill.
In the best scenario the wolves and skeletons end up fighting, and what remains is a weak bunch we can easily sweep up. Who knows, the Whispering Way may expend even more resources if it looks like the Demon Wolves are winning the fight. That'd get us in an even better position.
In case the Demon Wolves decide they'd rather flee from the skeletons than fight them, we can exit the inn and attack them from the opposite side of where the Whispering Way's skeletons are coming from. Thus effectively flanking the Demon Wolves with our other enemy. (Assuming the wolves won't just scatter, but packs are known to stay together so I doubt that.)
After this we may have to reevaluate how we deal with the actual members of the Whispering Way based on how things play out exactly, but if everything plays out as hoped the Demon Wolves and the Whispering Way's skeletons will be done for. If so, I suggest we then (after healing up) march toward the Way's tower with our wolf allies, have Kawrock set the tower aflame just before we arrive, and intercept the Way on its way out.

+1 to Arval, Eldon, & Kawrock. Let's do this.
+1 to Lena for explaining things and discussing the plan.
+1 to all who agree to post more clearly and pushily when you post to help make things happen.
GM SpiderBeard |
Okay, and before I get on this - the party with the lone exception of Kawrock remain locked up in the Inn?
Vladlena |
The last might work but is very risky on our part.

Not exactly. More like 4 to 5 rounds, not counting the time to set the inn on fire. Also its a mill, not a tower.
Vladlena |
It seems so.
Few points
If the demon wolves retreat, neither we nor the undead would keep up, with exception of kawrock, and possibly wren, due to flight. Wolves move fast, so they go full wolf to book. We have two halflings, and a dwarf with 20 foot moves btw. Also we would have to have time to exit ourselves to engage. Unlikely that we would catch them between uscand the undead. Smart wolves would leave and come back later. Of course they msy be dumb.
Hiding in the inn means if discovered we would find it hard to escape. I note one door. It is likely the inn would be investigated by the undead. It is right next to the inn.
If the mill catches fire, if we remain in the inn we would be in additional danger. The inn is only 5 feet from the mill (see map), and fire spreads quickly.
Wren the FeatherMage |
Just wanted to say that I saw and read the above, and understand that both plans have a lot of whatifs and couldhappens, but think the current plan is the better one. If the DWolves run off, great. If they come to attack us in the in, great (because chokepoint).
We'll see what happens.
Vladlena |
Ok, no problem. Game on.

Hey Wrenlings--
I'm headed down to Mexico for the next 9 days. Since it's the beachy, resorty part, they offer and should have ample wifi and whatnot. However, there are no guarantees, like some orange baboon erecting an expensive and entirely unnecessary digital wall to keep internet traffic from going to and fro Mexico...
...anyhoot, if I fail to post in a timely manner, feel free to GMPC me.
Vladlena |
Well, if the wall (which is really ahead of schedule, according to the tweeter in chief) is built while you are there, I have heard the Mexicans have built a ladder. And the usa paid for it.
Eldon Appleton |
I have heard most Mexicans actually enter the USA by plane, and that walls don't tend to stop planes. Could be wrong though, about one of those things.
Whiskeyjack Dunaldthal |
FYI, I am going to be travelling Wed-Sun on a business trip, and I might not be able to post during that time.
If I am in your game, please GMPC me if needed. If I am running your game, be patient until I can return to regular posting.
GM SpiderBeard |
I'm out for the weekend at an ice fishing stag party. If I survive, I'll be posting again come Monday. Have a good weekend!
GM SpiderBeard |
I survived and back to regular posting. Also, totally forgot to put the homonculus on the map. It's there now.
