GM Soul |
Good Morning/Afternoon/Evening,
Congratulations to all who have been accepted!
This is where it all begins, the introductions, getting to know each other, as well as where we will start and how I take care of certain rolls.
My true name is Elijah, but most people call me Eli. I am the father of one crazed yet gorgeous two-year old daughter, and work with taxes and escrow accounts for mortgages! I'm an aspiring author hoping to finish (and publish) my first book soon, and an excited GM almost all of the time!
Upon agreement, we will start this module a couple days ahead of the ceremony, not only so that (if you want to) your characters can get to know each other and the town itself, but also so that Mayor Uptal can make the first of many visits to your character and personally invite you to the "Rite of Passage".
When it comes to certain rolls, I tend to roll Initiative for everything and put it into a nice template. Similar creatures are the kind I tend to roll initiatives together, UNLESS one happens to stand out. Other than that, I put the extra potential rolls that characters can do in spoilers, and thus if you roll high enough, would be able to see its contents. I trust you all be able to have self-control if you can't see the Spoiler :P (or at least separation of in and out of character knowledge).
For those of you who have played this module before, it might be a little different. I have added some encounters and changed some, specifically for the reason that I am not only demented, but understanding that there are six of you. I will give you a run for your money, however I will not be out to kill you specifically.
All in all, I want this to be a wonderful story that in someway, I hope to write into a short one myself to show my future readers! (fingers crossed).
Fiila |
Hi there, I'm your pre-existing witch Fiila! I like herbs, clothes, and...oh, I see dead people!
Looking forward to this and am glad we are starting a few days ahead of time.
I will be headed to gencon next week so after wednesday morning my posting may be erratic due to lack of connection/time/computer but I will post as I can.
Gnawl Rapwood |
I am Gnawl Rapwood, future leader of the Rapwood tribe and soon all the other nearby tribes! I have been called by Apsu to create a home for all kobolds, and keep them safe. So I must win their respect with a daring quest and come back victorious (I am fully aware it's not really dangerous, but they don't have to know that). They are not quite as refined as me, but they will behave themselves per my instructions... being able to glare them into submission helps too. I will do my best to lead us to victory and resist the racial inclination to slay any gnomes we meet on sight.
Havarus |
Greetings one and all. I am Havarus, the bastard offspring of an Incubus and a Khellid slave. And while I have gone to great lengths to be a good person, my father's blood still keeps me from achieving greatness. Let us see if adventuring will redeem or damn my soul.

Gnawl Rapwood |
Greatness! Gnawl shall lead you to greatness!
You have mighty blood in you, yes? Mighty blood flows through kobolds! It is your birthright to power! Take hold of it! Are you not one of the most handsome members of Kassen!? Are you not a brave and noble being!?
...no, really, I'm asking. As a kobold, I have no idea what you bigger races find attractive. You have no tails, no fringes, no scales, so it can't be those...
Manduzi Royavoso |
Moon Papa disguised as Manduzi Royavoso here
A druid-taught Cavalier devoted to the Green Faith, he'll be a capable front-liner along with his canine flanking partner Zandu, as well as being capable of sneakiness/ wilderness survival / nature and geography knowledge!
Manduzi is a native Varisian and exhibits the carefree and restless attitudes many of his ancestors are known for. He prefers peace to conflict, but also recognizes there is sometimes a need for conflict to ensure balance.
I foresee this is an interesting blend of faiths and outlooks.
Nice character selections, GM!

Thank you Manduzi :)
One of the major things I wanted to do was pull in characters that not necessarily contrasted one another, but had their differences in beliefs because sometimes it leads to wonderful character development.
Just as Havarus said about he and the Chellish Paladin, Uriel:
"Gods help us if we are grouped together"
Your dream has come true, as well as mine!
EDIT: Changed pulled to "Pull" ... Grammar and Spelling

Interesting you mention tails, most of my kind have one. Thank the Gods I'm blessed to not have one.
*EDIT* And in your question of whether or not I'm attractive, I have caught the eye of a woman or two, especially the little girl I helped save from her burning house when she came of age. But I've never been with any of them. I don't need to risk passing on the corruption that lies within my blood to an innocent child.
Havarus |
Good point, you and me are the strangest two besides the kobold. I imagine most of us know of you and probably each other better due to the age difference. I doubt any of us know the kobold at all.
I might have served him once or twice at the Seven Silvers.
Gnawl Rapwood |
Welp, that turned into a book. Sorry, but I just like the idea that Gnawl is trying to integrate a couple more kobolds into the town, just to get them adjusted to the place.
Also...
NO! You MUST pass on your power! You are the mightiest! You owe it to your kin to make the strongest hatchlings you can! MAKE THE HATCHLINGS!
Havarus |
*Throws his hands up in the air at kobolds statement* What's the point?
Hello Malagaar, I'm Havarus. You'll do fine, we've got your back.
GM Soul |
I find it odd of myself, in that I wrote my piece for Havarus at approximately 5-6 AM Central time, yet I do not remember doing it.
I tend to wake up late at night for an hour or so and then fall back asleep. Nonetheless, you guys should see a pattern and expect a post every morning or so from me. It's usually the best time for me to post. :)

Really loving the writing thus far. I feel like this should be a lot of fun!
As a disclosure, I have been reading the spoilers thus far, since it's just separate scenes of roleplaying, and I promise to keep knowledge of mine and Manduzi's separate.
But yeah, If you'd suggest I didn't do that, just let me know, thanks!

My expectations of you all as players includes understanding of curiosity, and that if you do read the spoilers, to be able to keep in-character and out-of-character knowledge separate, as you have said.
If you can do that, I have no issues of you reading them. :)

Understood!
If it becomes too tempting for me I'll cease and desist haha

Haha! It's no problem at all. The writing here is just fantastic and I'm enjoying writing every bit that I do.
I believe we're down one person. Oh Uriel!! Come back to us! We miss you!
@Gnawl - You're fine! You helped me out by incorporating Malagaar in, so no worries!
Uriel Leveton; "Blade-Bearer" |
I am here, I just haven't found time to post yet. I'll put up my first gameplay post within the hour, I just need to finish up posts for the games I DMing here on the forums. Two of them are in combat, so my posts get pretty lengthy, detailing what NPCs and enemies are doing.
I apologize for the delay, I'll be joining in shortly, as well as putting up my background so that people can read a bit about me. Also, would the Paladin mentor likely be the man who has been training Uriel in the way of Paladinhood and the faith of Iomedae?

No worries! I assumed that everyone had other PbPs to tend to or DM so I'm not so impatient!
The Paladin mentor would more than likely be the man who had been training Uriel, however if that man is not the one you'd like (Especially with his devotion to the Lastwall), feel free to make your own up.
From what I've been told of your character, he seems to have been showered in gifts from his mark and trained specifically under Iomedae, only to be assigned to the Paladin Mentor, Sir Dramott, once he got older, but I'll allow any tinkering or overhaul that you deem necessary.
Uriel Leveton; "Blade-Bearer" |
His association makes no difference to Uriel, it just probably means that he is expecting Uriel to eventually take up a post at Lastwall when he comes of age. It wouldn't be surprising, as Uriel's life is rife with promises of "when you come of age", one of them being the ceremony.
The short version of Uriel's background is that he was born with the holy symbol of Iomedae gracing the shoulder of his shield arm, with the local church believing it to be a sign that he had been chosen by the Inheritor for some great purpose. As he grew older, he was apprenticed to Sir Dramott for instruction in both combat and edicts of the faith, and was constantly showered with gifts by the church and his sponsors from Lastwall, who had been contacted by Sir Drammott. He has been sworn to serve in Lastwall once he comes of age, and his completion of the rite of passage marks that occasion.
I'll let you know when I get the full version up on his profile.

I am excited to see the full story and also how Uriel reacts to when he sees the true meaning of becoming a Paladin of Iomedae rather than receiving those rifes of "When you come of age".
Manduzi Royavoso |
Your last post has me a bit confused Soul, who is gawking at me? Is she a local or a visitor?
Not Soul but
it's Asina Silvers, daughter of Trelvar Silvers, who owns the Seven Silvers inn.
There's some good info about the townsfolk in the campaign tab
:)
GM Soul |
I should probably look at both tabs before I post in the future... Thank you for the cover Manduzi!
Yeah, while I was home, I even included a map of Kassen in case anyone wants a reference. Keep in mind though, The Roll20 Link I gave to each of you via PM is going to be the most updated software as I have access to it anywhere.
It has journal entries and such that include all of the information put as an insurance on the Campaign tab. Things such as handouts will ESPECIALLY be shown there as it would be easier to do from work.
GM Soul |
Going into our first weekend, I'd like to say I'm pretty happy with how smooth things are going! I wanted to ask a couple of questions that base off of your guy's experience with this module.
Who here has played this Module before? If you have, are you okay with me adding and changing a few things in the module to make it more dynamic, or would you like for me to stay close to the book?
How is this pace of roleplaying and storytelling for you guys? Are you itching for more combat or is this fine the way it is? This question is in conjunction with the first as I initially planned to make it more dynamic from the original book. Thank you in advance for your input, and as its given, I shall adjust!
Fiila |
Never played this either though I have read through the first couple of encounters when studying a replacement gm for a game. I didn't get very far and heck if I know whether there was much changed or not that time.
As for the pace, while it is a bit fast for what I am used to, it's a good starting pace and will slow down soon enough, they always do. Still, this many posts in 24 hours is a good sign of a steady progression of the game.
Uriel Leveton; "Blade-Bearer" |
I'd prefer if the pace of the game was a little slower, if only so it was a little easier for me to get in while we start. That's really more of a "my fault" thing though, and otherwise the pacing is fine. We'll slow down a bit once we get into a set pace, but that's fine with me.
GM Soul |
I appreciate everyone's honest comments. I'll look to slowing the pace. I know I can guarantee a post per day during the weekdays as I go to work in the morning. If more posts are needed, I'll supply as so.
It's good that most of you haven't played this Module, at least not in a while. That means I can throw some surprises you won't find in there. :)
Fiila |
Honestly I doubt you need to slow the pace just yet, you'll find it will slow itself down fairly quickly and stay pretty steady from then on.
Manduzi Royavoso |
I'm gonna hold off on my posting, until we can allow Uriel a chance to get in on this.
Maybe him along with our scaly friend and resident lore warden could dip into the Seven Silvers to have a drink with us?
Uriel Leveton; "Blade-Bearer" |
Ugh, sorry. Life has been happening. I'm working on posting now before I go to bed. My laptop's LCD screen is cracked, and I'm looking at my warranty, replacement, repair, etc.

I definitely understand Uriel! Life happens! We're all just holding back a bit just so we don't go too far before you'll be in. :)
