Walren sighs. "Don't know much 'bout the interior. No one comes back. But there's quicksand I hear, and the weather's crazier than a nest of gugs. This island, it twists things, so even the wildlife's a bit mad. I'd be on yer guard for just about anythin'."

Walren leaves to direct the course and then grab a little sleep. True to his word, the morning brings you to a sheltered bay where Walren orders the barge to be anchored. His men lower a small boat and Walren himself rows you out toward a lonely stretch of beach. Even as his words echo, you spot swirling black clouds begin to gather over the island, as the future promises more foul weather. Walren points toward the beach. "This useta be a place called Fort Landing. There's ruins there that might shelter ye a bit from the storm. Good luck, you lot. May the gods watch yer backs."

Bonekeep Slides

As you stumble ashore, you find yourselves standing in the ruins of Fort Landing, an ancient stone fort, long ago lost to the many terrors of the island. The wind, sand, and storms have scoured away anything organic, such as wood or rope, leaving behind a sandblasted set of interconnected walls that now form a sort of ruined maze. Just inside those walls, you find the remnants of a recent firepit—as well as the first evidence that the Isle of Terror isn’t friendly: two fresh graves, shallow and ringed with stones, have been dug near a wall, out of the elements.

As the thunder rolls above, a hard driving rain begins to fall. The maze of stone walls, some with roofs still intact, seems to be the best spot to wait out the rain.

When his own eyes fall upon the graves, Ferabras considers them for a long moment, the driving rain momentarily forgotten, "I've no wish to disturb the rest of those who lie here, but I wonder who they could have been. Someone in this place cared for them enough to lay them to rest, even decorate their graves a bit."

Soran, judging by the firepit, you're only about three days behind whoever was here last, probably the Razmirans. The weather is witch-odd here, and you think the storm should blow past in a couple hours.

Zolarus, you don't discover anything new about the graves without disinterring them. However, you believe something or someone in the storm is watching you. You catch glimpses of red eyes, about the height of a wolf or large dog, a few times during the downpour.

The storm does indeed blow past in the span of the hour, leaving behind a humid and hot feel to the air. The sun is soon out again and Soran spots signs of passage to the east. Deeper into the jungle you head, following the signs of the Razmirans' passage.

A half hour later you come across the ruins of a small building in the jungle. It's mostly fallen down, but while passing through it, you hear howls echoing from the jungle all around and spot red eyes emerging from the shadows: terrible black-furred wolves lope into the clearing, looking emaciated and foul!

Even before he gets close, his stench precedes him—it’s not only as though he hasn’t bathed in years, but that he seems to have actually gone out of his way to cover himself in the most horrible smells the Isle of Terror has to offer: a blend of rotten eggs, human waste, and decaying organic matter. An arrow is lodged in the back of his right leg, but seems to cause him no pain as he sloshes through the waters of the swamp. Suddenly he stops. A barrel stands at the back of the cave, in which he’s piled an assortment of tubers, leaves, and dried meat of indeterminate origin. He stuffs both backpacks full of food, straps the broken shield on his back and the broken short sword at his waist, and grabs the waterskin. "Ready now. Ready for adventure!"

Zolarus hands him his masterwork cold iron longspear after noticing the poor condition of the man's equipment.

Use this instead. It has served me well in battle.

He is innocent until his actions proven guilty. There is always a risk when placing trust, but he knows this place better than we do. We eill likely encounter danger at every twist and bend.

He whispers back.

Dusan looks attentively at Zolarus' weapon, but politely declines. "Couldn't, couldn't! This," He pats the broken short sword, "is a replica of the Pale Maiden, you know. Too many memories, too many!" He looks around. "Ready to go go go? Or could rest here. Safe, you know."

Dusan begins to wail and cry, but he takes off, heading into the interior of the island.

You march through swamp and low overgrown brush. Dusan leads you unerringly, avoiding quicksand and bogs and always muttering to himself.

That night you make camp. Any watches?

If the GM ever asks if there are watches, then the answer is always yes. ;)

Soran trudges through the wilderness following Dusan, but also making sure that he isn't leading them in circles or into a trap.

The young woodsman keeps an arrow ready, wary of the wild nature of the island. He tries to pry information out of the addled pathfinder every now and then as well.
Dusan, how did you survive out here? It's hard enough to survive in the wild in a... "normal" wilderness. This place must have been terrible on you.

When the group arrives at a decent campsite, he circles the perimeter, looking for possible threats from wild animals, such as tracks or droppings. Once satisfied that he knows what to expect, he returns to the group.
We need to set up a watch. I can take middle, since I don't have to prepare any magics in the morning.

Mikail follows along with the group, but once he sees the man's poor conditions, his misgivings begin to fail. He scans the detritus and broken items, and then approaches the man. "You have done well for yourself here.. but we will make sure that we get you off this island when we go." he says. "Your miseries are over.. we will make sure you get home to your family."

As the group departs the cave, making keeps his eyes open, making sure that no surprises befall the group and their new charge.

Dusan stares hard at Soran and Mikail, looking blank, then begins to sob. He cries for a very long time before finally falling asleep. Once asleep he looks peaceful, the mad wrinkles falling from his face.

You set a watch over night, but it passes quietly. The next morning, Dusan is up early, moving around the perimeter of camp. If you ask him what he's doing, he sniffs the air. "Smells like lizard. Riled up riled up lizard. Not happy. Make musky smell when they're not happy. Easy to avoid, but right in the way. Can't go 'round, can't go away. Must go through. Yes. Through. Be ready for lizards."

Soran, watching Dusan you believe he must have been trained in wilderness survival. He shows a lot of old tricks you've come to associate with those who know woodcraft. He doesn't seem to think much, it almost seems instinctive to him now. Still, you figure you could learn some handy tips by watching him.
