Finarin Moonstep |
Ok so I was at work when combat began, and as we all know I cannot access the MAP, so not to RETCON or anything, but was Finarin and Ibid adjacent to each other when Shira threw the bomb? I thought, but could be wrong, that we were a square away form each other. Or does the splash cover a 10' area?
Ibid. Oxley Abel |
crap, I don't remember where I was... :(
GM Silbeg |
you were adjacent. That is one thing I am sure of. However, it has been pointed out that I messed up with the bomb's save. So, Finarin's damage will be corrected.
Screaming in rage, Shira swings her battleaxe at Ibid. battleaxe: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13. In her anger, she swings wide, missing the old man.

GM Silbeg |
"Excuse me? Could you be a little more specific Snig? And be ready to stop when I say stop... Lort thinks I am too young for this... Who exactly was down here last night? About the time all the commotion happened upstairs?"
"oh, it was her, the pretty half-elf. She comes down her a lot. She is very pretty, and she lets them all do things.". He dry washes his hands again, and gets a big grin on his face. "She brought the elf, the bodyguard. They got all romantical there, he points to a neater part of the hold, where nicer blankets are laid out.
"She knows I am here. She lets me watch! Do you need more details? I saw it all. They were doing it when the attack happened, he left when he heard the first mate yelling. He was crying when he left, pulling his pants back on in a hurry.
Ibid. Oxley Abel |
The instant after the battleaxe misses Ibid, he grinds his teeth together while raising the longsword with bloody, fire seared hands. With a cry of anger the old man pulls the blade around, swiping violently at the one-eyed dwarf.
"It didn't have to be this way!" he bellows in a cry of furious anger.
attack(longsword, +1 BAB, +2 Str, +2 Ranger's Focus): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
damage(+3 Str for two-handing, +2 Ranger's Focus): 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
After the blade ends its arc, its weight appears almost too much for the old man to handle, yet Ibid remains rooted in place attempting to shield his ally.
Don't collapse now, old man, Ibid thinks to himself as he feels his knees start to shake and his bony, old hands begin to tremble while clutching the hilt of his blade.
Amaranti |
"Thank you, you was very helpful. Let us know if you remember anything else."
Should Amaranti hear Finarin's cries, he start running towards the sound, sending a command to Kaisharga as well.
GM Silbeg |
Is Shira wearing metal?
Shira is wearing studded leather.
Finarin Moonstep |
What a brave man to step in front of me, to shield me. I must stay with him to the end. If not, I could never look Cyrus in the eye.
5-foot step. draw Rapier, spend an Arcane Pool point, Attack
Rapier Attack W/ Arcane Pool Point: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 4 + 1 = 11
Rapier Damage w/ Arcane Pool Point: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Lort |
"Thank you, but further details will be unnecessary," says Lort, scowling slightly.
With that Lort takes the opportunity to scour this part of the hold for further clues, concentrating on the used bedroll. The half-orc is very careful to pick up any crusty-looking sheets from the corner with two just two pinched fingers held at a distance from his face.
I'll take 20 if I can.
Miro Ammars |
Knowing he can offer no other assistance at this time, Miro starts to sing, waving Amaranti ahead of him. Apparently his companions were not as gentle with their questions as he and the Garundi.
Cyrus the Flea |
Pending the results of the search of the area... Cyrus nods at Lort, knowing a certain alibi has just been confirmed.
After the search is complete, Cyrus accompanies Lort back up to the upper decks to confer with the rest of his companions.
Assuming we come up to find out about the cook's attack on Ibid and Finarin, I will wait until that is resolved to react unless something else happens in the meantime.
Ibid. Oxley Abel |
I see that Miro is ahead of Ibid in the initiative order, and because Miro can hear Finarin and I calling for help, Ibid should be able to perceive Miro's singing which means Ibid would be under the effects of Inspire Courage.
As such, Ibid's attack roll would be 19, with 14 damage.
As you can see, I really want the extra damage to try and bring this dwarf down :)
GM Silbeg |
Lort and Cyrus
Snig sniggles (a cross between a snicker and a giggle), in a very creapy way, and says, "Yes, yes, are you sure that is enough? They were so very romantical... making the beast with two backs. Did you know that elves..." Snig stops as Lort gives him a look that shows his patience is at an end. "Well, never mind. Snig will just sit up here and watch you two as well." Snig grabs his crossbow, and crawls back into his "nest", very careful not to aim the weapon at the two adventurers.
While carefully searching, Lort discovers a small leather purse hidden in the bedding (not Snig's, the bedding that has obviously been used by the "morale officer"). It contains a few small gems worth about 108gp.
If you haven't done so already, Lort and Cyrus, could you update your tagline for your current AC, with the damaged armor? Thanks!
GM Silbeg |
The rest of you...
Karshaiga: Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Ibid takes his longsword in both hands, and takes a mighty swing. Unfortunately, it seems to bounce off of some sort of invisible barrier just before it hits the dwarf.
Ibid: Kn: Arcana: 1d20 + 7 + 1d6 ⇒ (8) + 7 + (4) = 19
Finarin: Kn: Arcana: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
never mind!
While Ibid isn't sure what is causing this, he thinks'That must have been what she drank!'
Finarin then steps up next to the old man, also not understanding what deflected Ibid's attack, draws on his inner reserves of arcane power, and lunges at Shira. Still shaken by the bomb, his attack misses.
Outnumbered two to one, Shira is looking a little 'concerned'. She decides that she needs to get clear, in order to throw her bombs. She then notices the big Garundi coming in, lance in hand. She decides to go with the bomb this time, since she has faith in her magical protections.
Shira bomb attack vs. Finarin: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11scatter: 1d8 ⇒ 2
Finarin: Ref: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Finarin: AOO: 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 5 + 1 = 23 for: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Ibid: AOO: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
Finarin: Ref: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
Ibid: Ref: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
Shira: Ref: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
As she throws, Ibid lands a solid blow on Shira. This throws her aim off, causing her to land the bomb at Ibid's feet. Ibid and Shira are able to avoid the brunt of the explosion, but Finarin takes it all.

Lort |
Done on the AC front! I just noticed I'm 1 hp down, if you don't mind, Lort will take the opportunity to treat deadly wounds.
Heal, treat deadly wounds: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25
Lort pockets the gems, bandages himself up, dons his rusted armor and makes his way upstairs to meet the other investigators. I'm getting very sick of these debauched scoundrels and this ship in general. I may get an overland caravan back to Absalom. I hope our friends have had better luck - and that Ibid is able to make something of all this.
Miro Ammars |
Miro continues hurrying towards the combat, singing a bold song of seaward adventuring and plundering, wincing at the sounds of another bomb going off. He presses on, falling in behind Amaranti as he foresees the party trying to take down the ship's cook. Well...he supposed he couldn't blame them, for the slop she continued to offer.
Finarin Moonstep |
Miro I am at 1 hp and Ibid is at 3hp - might be nice to break out the happy stick and CLW on either of us. If we don't take her out this round there is a really good chance Ibid and I go down.
Finarin Moonstep |
Realizing that the dwarf needs to go down, Finarin attempts to execute his specialized form of combat, spell casting and melee attacking.
Spell combat:

Super - spell fizzles out and I miss
Ibid. Oxley Abel |
The old man notices his companions approaching from the stern of the ship and carefully steps five feet in order to adjust his position around the one-eyed dwarf.
Move Action: Ibid 5-foot adjusts, map updated.
As Ibid steps to the dwarf's flank, he calls out to his friend. "Amaranti! Bring that big ol' lance of yours and step to the opposite side of this dwarf as me," Ibid's voice is tired as he asks his companion for help. "And then skewer her!"
"You'll have to let your guard down for second, Amaranti, in order to get into position," the old man calls on the verge of collapse. "But it will make this one-eyed monster easier to take down!"
I'm going to hold my attack until Amaranti is (hopefully) flanking with Ibid before he takes a swing. I may even burn two uses of the Investigator's Inspiration ability in order to add an extra 1d6 to the attack roll.
GM Silbeg |
Ibid realizes once he has said this, that Amaranti's lance is a reach weapon. Finarin could have 5' stepped into the space to give Ibid a flank, and will be allowed to do that if he posts before everyone has gone. I assume Amaranti will just move up and 'thrust' with his 'lance'... oh, wait... that's what Azuretta would want ;)
Finarin Moonstep |
I will use that 5-foot step. Updated and flanked. Stick it in her, Amaranti ... the lance that is. Thanks GM. Let's all have dwarf on a stick rather than that junk she is serving.
Ibid. Oxley Abel |
ha! Damnit, that's not going to work! :)
Miro Ammars |
Miro I am at 1 hp and Ibid is at 3hp - might be nice to break out the happy stick and CLW on either of us. If we don't take her out this round there is a really good chance Ibid and I go down.
I'm coming as fast as my stumpy little legs can carry me! I have a movement speed of 20 ft, ya know! LOL
Amaranti |
Amaranti comes in running, casting a spell to distract the crazed cook.
Cast daze DC 12
Sorry guys, no thrusting with 'lance' yet... I'm still on mobile device, could you move Amaranti to reach distance, and Kaisharga as close as possible
Ibid. Oxley Abel |
Reeling from the injuries he has taken, Ibid attempts to strike at the one-eyed dwarf, but finds the blade is too heavy and unwieldy in his tremblings hands. The attack, though all he can muster, is clearly the last ditch effort of a man of the verge collapse.
attack(longsword, +2 Str, +1 BAB, +2 Ranger's Focus, +1 IC, +2 Flank): 1d20 + 2 + 1 + 2 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 + 1 + 2 + 1 + 2 = 12
The old man's eyes well up as his attack, as expected, is not threatening to the cook in the least.
Finarin, I'm sorry, the old man thinks, looking to his companion. I've let you down and now one of us will fall.
"I'm still standing," the old man rallies, attempting to draw the dwarfs wrath upon himself. "You one-eyed b~$&~!"
Finarin and Ibid are both at 1 hp.
GM Silbeg |

will reroll: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9 using it now, because I think you need the break!
Shira looks like she's a bit out of it right now!
GM Silbeg |
As it happens, Amaranti could have attacked with the lance, but the Daze works well, too.
The heavily wounded Ibid and Finarin surround the crazed cook, but their injuries prevent them from successfully landing a blow. Amaranti, however, is able to daze the cook with a flurry of magical motes of light.
Shira shakes her head, trying to clear her head.

** spoiler omitted **
That is correct, yes.
Finarin Moonstep |
Thanks GM! So what to do now - as the Clash sang, "Should I stay or should I go?" I figure that we now have Miro in position this round to heal - go heal Ibid, Miro. We have 3 attacks with Ibid, Amaranti, and me. Next round, if she range attacks, that is 3 AoOs BEFORE she throws. So that is 6 attacks from us before she can attack again. I am going all in - wish me luck boys
Finarin, grateful for the Garundi's and halfling timely arrival, knowing this is his last chance, again combines his knowledge of the Arcane and Melee to attack.

* If any of my assumptions are incorrect, can I please revise the action?
Finarin Moonstep |
Do I crit on a spell?, if I do. Also do I add +1 to damage for IC on the Spell?
Touch Attack Confirm & Anatomist vs Touch: 1d20 + 8 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 8 + 1 = 22
Finarin Moonstep |
From the PRD:
"Touch Attacks: Touching an opponent with a touch spell is considered to be an armed attack and therefore does not provoke attacks of opportunity. The act of casting a spell, however, does provoke an attack of opportunity. Touch attacks come in two types: melee touch attacks and ranged touch attacks. You can score critical hits with either type of attack as long as the spell deals damage. Your opponent's AC against a touch attack does not include any armor bonus, shield bonus, or natural armor bonus. His size modifier, Dexterity modifier, and deflection bonus (if any) all apply normally."
Schocking Grasp additional Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 3
After reading the PRD yet again:
"Inspire Courage (Su): A 1st-level bard can use his performance to inspire courage in his allies (including himself), bolstering them against fear and improving their combat abilities. To be affected, an ally must be able to perceive the bard's performance. An affected ally receives a +1 morale bonus on saving throws against charm and fear effects and a +1 competence bonus on attack and weapon damage rolls."
So is my touch attack a weapon attack? GM ruling on that?
So my total damage from Shocking Grasp 6+3=9 and possibly +7 from Rapier. Ibid's 19 missed but my 23 hit so not sure if a 20 hits.
Or with the +1 from IC 7+4=11
Ibid. Oxley Abel |
regained 3 hit points. Thanks Miro!
The old man feels a tingling sensation as life begins to return to his bruised and battered body. Bolstered by Miro's healing, the old man turns back to the one-eyed dwarf and brings the edge of the longsword around in an attempt to cut down their foe.
attack(longsword, +2 Str, +1 BAB, +2 Ranger's Focus, +1 IC, +2 Flank): 1d20 + 2 + 1 + 2 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 + 1 + 2 + 1 + 2 = 23
damage(+3, i.e 2 Str while 2-handing, +1 IC, +2 Ranger's Focus): 1d8 + 3 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 3 + 1 + 2 = 9
Ibid. Oxley Abel |
@ FInarin: As far as I understood the rules, your magic spell/touch attack would be a crit, and also the extra damage from Miro's inspire courage would be multiplied. I've found the rules usually spell out if something should not be multiplied on a critical hit, such as precision based damage. If it were me, I'd treat Miro's inspire courage sort of like the extra damage from Power Attack, which is multiplied on a critical hit.
Obviously, GM Silbeg will have to weigh in for the final say, but that was my understanding of how the rules would work.
Finarin Moonstep |
@ Ibid - I want your longsword that deals 21d8 damage.
Ibid. Oxley Abel |
Hahahah, whoops! Sorry about that. I had the code all set up for the damage of my attack, but then added another set of brackets within the code to show I was two-handing the longsword, so it wouldn't be confusing because I'm adding 3 damage from my Str instead of just 2.... and then everything went to crap.
also, in my defense, I really wanted to beat her :)
GM Silbeg |
Spell damage is not weapon damage, sorry. It can crit, though.
Finarin hits hard with the shocking grasp, lighting up Shira, but misses with the rapier, as it bounces off the invisible wall, again.

Ibid then swings his longsword once more in a haymaker-style move, this time breaking through the invisible barrier. She goes down like a sack of potatoes, still crackling with electical energy, and with a massive new dent in her helmet.

Meanwhile, somewhere belowdecks, a mostly naked half-orc is struggling to put on his reddish-brown stained armor. Every time a fleck of armor falls to the ground and crumbles to dust, he curses.
"Vittu nämä jumalat kirottu vitun olentoja ja vitun häkki he tulivat tänne. Kuka käyttää Fuçking Metal vitun lukko vitun ruostetta hirviöitä?"
Amaranti, why did "fuçking metal" translate to "Fuçking Metal"? Is it a proper noun in Finish???
Finarin Moonstep |
Really? Frankendwarf lives? We need to end her already - Amaranti take her out please!
@ GM When this is over can you PM me what the Kn Arcana spoiler is? Feel like a kid that found my Christmas gifts and I am resisting opening them.

@Finarin:
She goes down like a sack of potatoes...
I'd be working under the assumption that she was alive but unconscious. Sacks of potatoes aren't usually very good in combat. Also, if you haven't been, do feel free to open my orcish spoilers. After all, I don't spoiler Lort's thoughts and you can read those. Speaking of...
Lort continues up the stairs.
Man, it is taking ages to get out of this hold. Is that spilled stew I smell? And here I was hoping the air would get fresher as I ascended.
**EDIT** Cyrus'd by the GM! Ah, whatever. I'll leave my know-it-all text in there.

Cyrus follows Lort up the stairs, grumbling similarly about his own precious armor. He pauses for a moment when he realizes the two are complaining nearly in sync...
