Male Gnome Bard/4 -- HP: 34/35; AC18, T14, FF15; F+4,R+7,W+6; Per +8; Init +2

Varg, forgetting good manners calls back:
If we were cultists, your building would already be on fire. Now come out before we leave you behind to deal with the next roving horde of demons.

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23

Despite the general biting nature of his comment, the diminutive gnome's call still has a friendly and soothing ring to it.

Vardan says, "We have a paladin. I'd imagine the evil Cultists find paladins hard to come by?"

There are a few moments of silence which hang over the building for a seeming eternity before the voice calls out from behind the door. "Al-Alright we're coming out, you all stand back, no funny stuff or I'm slamming this door shut!" The group hears bolts being thrown and locks being undone and then two elderly humans step out still dressed in nightshirt and dressing gown. The grey haired man with his nightcap on, nervously brandishing what appears to be a cast iron fireplace poker. The woman lets out a despairing gasp when she sees the state of the room, and the man's shoulders slump, and he quietly mutters "...all ruined..." The poker falls from nerveless fingers to clatter loudly on the ground.

Godwin steps around the still steaming bodies of the demons and greets them. I am afraid your shop reflects the state of the entire city. It was only by chance that we happened to come by here in our search for our loved ones and shelter. But have heart. What is lost can be rebuilt. When things are made safe again.

Male Gnome Bard/4 -- HP: 34/35; AC18, T14, FF15; F+4,R+7,W+6; Per +8; Init +2

Drakra bows low, a look of mock seriousness on his face.
Good Sir and Lady. Yes, the vile demons have destroyed your home and business, but we have slain them. Apparently ignoring his habit of hiding behind things while others do most the fighting. We now are searching for other survivors of the demon attacks so that we can create a resistance to take back Kenabres. He says all this with great flair, as though the destruction about were nothing but an immaterial inconvenience.

The old man sags visibly in relief, the poker, still in hand, dropping to his side. "Oh, thank the gods. We were afraid those, those THINGS would ruin everything." His wife busies herself around the store, letting out small cries of dismay as she touches various outfits or broken mirrors. "I apologize for my attitude, I've just seen so much these last few days." His wife comes over and gives him an elbow to the ribs and sharp jerk of her chin towards the group. "OH! My manners. I am Belthis Loumis and this is my wife is Nira. The shop is Fine Fittings. Although I'm not so sure how fine it will be now." This last elicits another elbow from his wife. He sighs, and smiles "In any case we are in your debt. There isn't much that I can offer, but please allow us to give you something." His wife beams a smile and starts to rummage through some cabinets that survived the destruction, turning back and forth between the group and the storage with a discerning, practiced eye before she comes back out carrying several bundles.

She hands a package to each of you in turn, "The fit may not be perfect but you can come back after we get things cleaned, up and running again for tailoring." She smiles bravely but you can still sense the sorrow behind her eyes at the state of the store.

In each bundle is an outfit that would rival anything that you've seen in court, or at a gala event.

The outfits are worth about 100gp each

Vardan positively beams at the gift, "These are lovely... truly beautiful.... You are clearly artists...." He takes a breath as he looks around the ruin of the shop, then sighs, This is almost like my time with Nastir... taking from the weak.... although, I suppose the difference is that we didn't make this wreckage...

He shakes his head, and tries to hand back the package, "There is no need... especially given the difficulties you've just suffered."

Godwin would have refused any gift that would have taken resources away from the elderly couple, but the fancy courtly clothes were useless trinkets in a demon besieged city. He accepts them graciously.

Drakra looks at the clothing, but only noticing the dust on the garments, and completely missing the fine cloth beneath, makes a disgusted face.

He is about to insult the old couple when his companions say their thanks. Deciding that silence is the better part of valor, he takes the clothes quietly and sticks them into his backpack without care.

"We've shelter here enough, I suppose. I think my wife and I would just slow you down. We hear that there is a stronghold of sorts at Defender's Heart. If you make it there, maybe you can send someone back to retrieve us? We're safe enough in the basement till then."

Vardan says, "That seems as good a plan as any. Connecting with the survivors will give us a better picture of what's going on."

Hunting about for the direct route to either the Gwerm Estate or Anevia's house proves to be fruitless, as you come across huge chasms created by the passage of the demons. Heading west a bit, you come to a gate in the wall, which looks like it would lead north again, but you come to impasse. Crossing a smaller chasm here would probably be quicker, but also much more dangerous from the look of it, or you could skirt around the wall entirely, adding more time out in the city with you and the refugees with you.

Drakra peers at the deep chasm and nods.
Yes, what kind of a tale is it if we just jump across. We shall take the road less travelled. It shall make for a great ballad.

If anyone is foolish enough to listen to the small bard, they can tell that the thought of traveling across the deep rift is not something that Drakra wants.

Fomiel likes the dangerous chasm. But he realizes they have to protect their charges.

The group makes their way around the wall they are again thwarted from following what once was a large thoroughfare by a yawning chasm and are forced to the north once again. Picking the way through fallen rubble and still smoldering buildings takes some time, and by early afternoon, the group is covered in soot, ash, and dust, layering everyone in a fine layer of grime. As they approach a partially fallen watchtower, they can see several people hurriedly digging in the rubble.

Some of the folk scramble away from the rubble turning defensively at the group, but don't seem like they really want a fight. Seeing the heraldry displayed, they seem to ease a bit. Drakra, nods in agreement.
Yes and . . . and I shall record the great deeds.

With that, he pulls some paper and charcoal from his pack and begins to make notes, which means he is of absolutely no use to those seeking to get into the rubble.

"There are three trapped. Please be careful!"

As the party approaches they can see that the rubble has fallen in a way that has three people trapped in a void in the collapse with barely any movement available.

[spoiler=engineering, stoneworking, 15]The stones don't seem to be too difficult to move, but it would be easier to dig lower than the people and try to slide them out.[/b]

Godwin lends his strength to helping with the digging operation.

Sheesh, great spoiler, huh? *shakes head*

With some effort, and Drakra expertly directing the work, the group takes about 90 minutes working at the rubble and is able to slip the people out of the tight spot. Other than some bumps and bruises it looks like the people were otherwise unharmed. The worst of it is a gash on the head of a young woman, who also seems a bit disoriented.

After a moment, the people drop to the rocks in relief, one man wearing the torn and tattered garb of a city watchmen regards you all with a weary look, his face covered in dust and grime making it a bit more difficult to sense the gratitude, until he speaks. "Thank you. That could have turned out to be a disaster if you hadn't happened by. Ser Gnome, without your knowledge, I think the whole would have fallen in on our friends, and without your fellows strength, I fear it would have taken us too long, and someone or something else would have discovered us. Iomedae truly favors us this day." As an aside you hear him mutter, "Although I fear she does not the city."

Basking in the glory of the praise being placed upon him, the grin on Drakra's face is impossible to not notice.

With a bow, flourishing his hat, which he seems to have acquired somewhere, the gnome thanks the people.
It was an honor to be able to help you. Tell all those you see that heroes have arrived. Heroes who will save this city and banish the hordes back to the abyss.

It is hard to tell if the gnome is suddenly becoming brave, or merely butting on a show of bravado.
