Arenya |
As Arenya reaches the warm water she begins to hear some commotion up top. [i]Damn it.[i] she thinks to her self. She is about to start making her way up, but decides to also check if there is anything in the water with her while she make her way back up.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
Btw do we have a shortbow in the party loot?
Morgrym Stonewall |
"Never liked bugs, but ive never had to squish one with an axe before, watch yerself lads i dont wanna cut ye!" Morgrym Moves to carefully take a swing at th bug latched onto his friend, it looks to be trying to suck the lifeblood right from him and Morgrym would have none of that
attack+bab-power attack: 1d20 + 6 - 1 ⇒ (17) + 6 - 1 = 22
damage+str+power attack: 1d10 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 3 + 2 = 12
GM Shathira |
Arenya only sees the two exits from the cove, one leading out to the sea, and the other in towards the cliffside. The water does churn a bit, due to the currents, making swimming a bit more difficult. The water in the two exits looks to be about ten feet deep in places, and seaweed grows from the bottom almost to the top of the water. Arenya, I need a DC 15 swim check, which you can take 10 on. Also I need a DC 15 Sailor, Geography or Nature check.
*************Combat Round 1 Cont***************
random stirge hit by Gar, even 2 odd 3: 1d2 ⇒ 1
Garavaen skewers one of the Stirges that was feasting on his friend, which pops in a splash of blood before it falls to the ground.
Morgrym moves towards Eli and takes a mighty swing with his axe, which, in surgical fashion, smacks the stirge off the goblin monk, leaving a greasy, bloody splotch on Morgrym's axe.
As you breath a bit of a sigh of relief at the demise of half the stirges, you look up and see what appears to be a nest of them above you.

Free from the bloodsucker, Eli sends a flurry of arrows into the hovering stirge swarm.

Davina Kurikami |
Seeing the stirges above, Davina prepares to cast a spell when they come in range.
Readied Ray of Frost: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 181d3 ⇒ 1
Arenya |
Swim(Take 10): 10 + 7 = 17
Sailor: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
Ri'el |
Still getting my blood sucked out by a stirge here, if I could get some help! XD
If Astein can't get the stirge off me, I'll need to use one of my uses of prehensile air to smash it before it sucks more of my blood.
Morgrym Stonewall |
Round 2
Not taking a moment to rest Morgrym still sees bugs that need swatting "Goblin, see to it you take some of the ones out of reach with that bow o' yours" and Morgrym takes another swing
attack+bab-power attack: 1d20 + 6 - 1 ⇒ (7) + 6 - 1 = 12
damage+str+power attack: 1d10 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 3 + 2 = 14
Ri'el |
Looks like we're going all out.
Ri'el readies an action to use his hair to swipe at the next Stirge that comes within range.
hair slam: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
damage: 1d3 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
GM Shathira |
Astein swats the last stirge off of Ri'el before it can drain any more blood from the Shaman, and Eli manages to shoot two more, which screech and fly back to the nest. To the party's dismay, there appears to be a great deal more movement coming from within the nest.
Garavaen Drusus |
Garavaen nods, sheathing the blade and reaching for the familiar, reassuring hell of his crossbow. "Everyone go. Now. I'll cover.". He stands near the edge and looks down again, If I need to jump, let's find a deep patch of water so I don't shatter my legs on the bottom. "
Astein Longblade |
Astein follows Eli, his hair gripping the rope as he descends.
Climb: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
However, slick with stirge blood the hair fails to grip the rope well...
Uh oh...
Davina Kurikami |
Thought we'd already made it down the rope. Whoops.
Davina begins climbing down the rope, hoping that she'll make it in one piece.
I'll take 10 if I can but since I don't believe that's possible in combat I'll add the roll anyway.
Climb: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
Ri'el |
Still a little woozy from the loss of blood, Ri'el spares a moment to cast a monkeyfish spell on himself before climbing down with the rest of the group, his hair ready to swat at any stirge that tries to suck any more of his blood. Use my previous roll if needed.
GM Shathira |
Eli and Ri'el manage the rope and climb well, but both Astein and Davina mishandle their grips and slip off the rope. I'll need an acrobatics or swim check at a DC 15 Morgrym and Garavaen are still at the top, covering the retreat. The stirges are circling the nest, looking like they're readying to swarm.
Ri'el |
Hi GM, I forgot to mention this officially, but Ri'el would have passed the ring of swimming to Morgrym when he asked for it earlier. I was only holding it for the purpose of identifying it, after which it would have went to the party pool where Morgrym could claim it.
That was what I had in my head, and thought I'd make it clear since it may become relevant quite soon! XD
Arenya |
Arenya realises that they do not have much time. She call out to her companions still battling above. "Come on! We need to hurry, the tide is coming in and the way will not be open much longer!"
GM Shathira |
Astein manages to twist himself in the air and plunges into the water feet first, and other than scrambling to the surface after the 30 foot fall, feels no effect from it. Davina tries to twist in the air, but her wings cause her attempts to turn too much and she lands on her side with a loud smack. 2d3 non lethal: 2d3 ⇒ (1, 2) = 3
Soon everyone is in the water, and you find that the tide churns considerably, but it's not too difficult to swim. The caves from here lead to the sea, and further into the mountain.
[ooc]everyone needs to make a dc15 swim check. You can take 10, but not 20[/dice]
Ri'el |
Ri'el has a swim speed, giving him a +8 racial bonus, -1 from str penalty, for a final score of 17 on a take 10.
Despite his blood-loss, Ri'el's spell enables him to maneuver skillfully through the water into the nearest mountain-wards cave.
Garavaen Drusus |
Garavaen relaxes considerably as he gets away from the nest of bloodsuckers, Wonder if they have a dormant time where we could burn the nest with them in it? Of course, if we're still here, the boat'll leave without us, so I'd best worry about the task at hand...
Swim (Taking 10): 10 + 7 = 17
Morgrym Stonewall |
I understand we are now in the water and i was retroactivly given the ring of swimming so i can take 10 and actually pass the 15 swim check cuz of the ranks i put in swim, because i can auto succeed i think ill pull up the rear to keep us safe
Morgrym was never fond of water but in this case they didnt have a choice, with the magic of the ring he had been given his swiming skills were strong enough that he could hold his own in the waters of the bay "Thanks to this ring i can handle these waters with no issues lads, make your way to safty ill pull up the rear and keep us safe as i can. just dont make this take forever, move your butts lads!"
preparing an attack if anything gets near and move as best i can to keep up with the group
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
1d10 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
Arenya |
Take 10 and autopass
Arenya swims forward as she watches her companions descend into the water. She swims against the pull of the currents, managing to make progress with only a moderate amount of effort. For a moment she forgets the situation they're in, enjoying the lovely water and the swim as if she were relaxing, but the moment passes quickly as the reality of their situation once again dawns upon her. We need move fast, we need to find Sandara, we need to get back to the ship and stop Plug and Scourge.
Davina Kurikami |
Davina cries out in fear as she realizes what is about to happen, the loud smack of her body hitting the water obvious;y very painful. Once in the water she manages to right herself and then casts a spell before trying to swim anywhere. As it finishes her hands and feet grow webbing taking on the appearance of flippers. That finished she begins to swim after her friends.
Standard: Cast touch of the sea on myself.
Take 10 on the swim check with a 30 swim speed for a total of 18.
Davina Kurikami |
Seeing that Astein is having troubles Davina swims to him and places the same spell on him. "There that should help."
I cast touch of touch sea on him too. I'll look through that list I get home.
Arenya |
Arenya would have traded her dagger in for a MS Dagger and a MS Shortsword from party loot.
Garavaen Drusus |
Garavaen's got a masterwork handaxe -- so, I think that's it. Though if nobody's carrying the Alchemist's Fire, he'll take one or two.
Davina Kurikami |
Davina nods and then replies, "Of course, I'd have just as much trouble without it as you were. I'm just glad I figured it out how to do that."
Arenya |
Arenya continues to swim on in the lead, looking back every now and then to check on the rest of the group.
Auto pass a take 10
Elias aka 'Eli' |
Shathira, is the map updated? It looks like we are still in the tunnels and not really close enough to do much. Also, are we treading water or standing up in the surf? I'm trying to figure out how much move we have and what combat mods will be in play from here.
Davina Kurikami |
Davina gestures at Ri'el the beginnings of a color spray and then points to him and then to one group of the critters and then to herself and the other. She gestures for the others to wait and then moves into position before casting a color spray into the group of grindylows. Once finished she gestures the others to attack.
Davina moves up and color sprays the south group of grindylow. Dc 16 will.
If I can't do that for some reason then I will simply stay back until the rest of the party has attacked them.
Elias aka 'Eli' |
OK. Decisions... decisions...
Like a crocodile, Eli stays low in the water - only the top of his bumpy green skull and red eyes showing above the waterline. He creeps silently into the shallows, unshoulders his bow, and rises out of the surf behind a grindylow ready to fight.
Surprise Round
FREE: 5' move (on Map)
MOVE: Draw Bow
Morgrym Stonewall |
I will move up to a grendelow and swing away should i be in range, time for some solid axin
Morgrym sees that the present threat to the party presents itself in front of the group, and swims hurredly to the shallower waters these beasts seem to be standing in and brings his axe to bear upon the first foe he can get in range "Makle quick work o' these beasts lads, i dont like bugs at me back and squids in me face!"
1d20 + 6 - 1 ⇒ (4) + 6 - 1 = 9
1d10 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 3 + 2 = 9
Garavaen Drusus |
Garavaen sees the spellcasters preparing and pauses, bringing up his crossbow and making ready to fire at whichever beast doesn't fall from the magic.
Crossbow: 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 6 + 1 = 9 Ugh.
He curses as the shot goes far wide, Idiot! You need to focus on the target in your mind to get off a snap shot..., then starts to ready to fire again.
Arenya |
Arenya draws a fine short sword out as she swims towards the enemy!
Knowledge check?
Ri'el |
Btw my colour spray's DC is 16 as well. I presume what is happening is that Eli is stealthing ahead of Davina and myself, and Davina and I are walking up and unleashing the bright-colour-assault.
