Goldi looks at Truffles, what is it? Is Timmy trapped in the dark tunnel?
Truffles stops and just looks at goldi with a confused look
we should go this way she says indicating the Eastern path.
It looks like the group entered from that direction then went souh, but someone ran back this way and into that dark and dangerous, and scary looking tunnel, that really should be checked out by a really brave and strong warrior.
Ehlers Danlos |
"Round and round we go. Where we stop, nobody knows."
With another snarl of orcish, Ehlers renues the light spell on his staff.
"Lead on then. Freshly slaughtered friends don't last all day."
Jarif Selvaunt |
Jarif follows Goldi's directions along with the rest of the party.
We're going to the east, right? I don't see a door on the map to search, but Jarif will gladly search for traps as needed if we come to one, or if I'm reading the map wrong. Just let me know.
GM Shady |
The eastern tunnel travels downwards, then back up again, emerging into a small chamber, with doors to the east and to the south, both of which are shut.
At the centre of the room is the corpse of a man-sized brown and yellow beetle, recently killed. In the northwest corner of the room are the beginnings of what seems to have been a nest for the creature. Nearby is the corpse of a human female, burned beyond recognition but wearing the clothes of a Kassen villager.
Again, there are tracks on the ground.
Jarif Selvaunt |
Jarif enters the room, doing his best to avoid the tracks so he doesn't disturb them for those that can read them. He investigates both the beetle and the beetle's unfinished nest.
He doesn't so much as ignore the human corpse, but gives it a wide berth, gripping the bone in his off-hand a little tighter when he's near. "Anybody know if this one is going to rise up and take a swing at us too?
Robilar Hawke |
Robilar answers Jarif by unloading a whole crossbow's clip on the bugs' head, then kicking it a few times before recovering said bolts and loading another clip.
"As a trained doctor I can certify its death." he says with a smile before crouching to check the tracks...
Survival: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
... which he can't understand in the slightest, so he remains crouched adopting a thoughtful expression, waiting for Goldi to stat anything so he can back it without making a fool of himself.
Jarif Selvaunt |
"I didn't even think about an undead monster! Nine hells...." Jarif looks very disturbed as the reality of the situation weighs on him. He then indicates the burned human, still giving the corpse a wide berth. "But I meant that one; are we safe from that?"
Ehlers Danlos |
Ehlers strolls nonchalantly into the room
"Another friend of yours Goldi?"
He moves over to the body and rolls it over with his boot. Then turns and stares, with no attempt to hide his contempt, as Robilar fills the beetle with bolts.
"you hit it! A first time for everything I guess."
Goldilocks "Sugarsnap" |
goldi will chack for tracks after she learns what she can from the body.
Goldi is somewhat somber after seeing the sights she has so far. this makes another friend gone. this is pretty hard on a young girl and her first adventure.
Please Gozreh, let at least one be alive. she quietly prays as Goldi continues to search for which way to go.
survival: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26
GM Shady |
Goldi checks the body: it seems to have been dead about a week. So it can't be Dimira, Roldare's sister (since Jaer said she had survived, at the time Jaer escaped). Nor could it be one of the party, who made their last stand a few days later. By process of elimination, it must be Shelyn, one of the villagers from Kassen sent to set up the quest. The villager seems to have been killed in the same way as the two in the entrance hall, but then in this case the body was thrown on a fire of some kind.
As for the tracks, the party seems to have entered from the east, then entered the southern area (and exited in some disorder), before continuing down the tunnel to the west, whence you just came. The newer tracks, of the single escapee, continue back to the east. They're clearer here, obviously the tracks of something larger than human, probably a half-orc.

leaving the body, Ehlers follows the tracks Goldi points out
"Eugh! This hunt is tedious! Enough of it!"
he suddenly lunges towards the eastern door and attempts to kick it open.
Strength Check: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17
GM Shady |
The door, which was unlocked, flies open. Beyond it is a short corridor, running to the east, joining at its end another corridor that apparently runs north to south.
From round the corner, to the south, there's a voice. "Who's there? Who's there? We're armed! Get back!"
Ehlers Danlos |
"Yeah, we're all armed and various degrees of dangerous."
He looks sideways at Robilar
"Since your talking to us I'm going to say your not a skeleton. And since you sound like you have wet yourself at our approach I'm guessing your not some evil overlord. Are you from the village? What's your name, voice?"
Ka'narg |

Ka'narg |
"If you've ill intent I suggest you leave now, or else find that a crossbow bolt will be planted between your eyes," a second voice echoes from the room beyond the door, lower and less fearful than the first. "Now, answer your own question for us, and maybe we will give you our names in return."
Ehlers Danlos |
"my intents are adjusted according to the subject concerned. Goldi, you recognise the voice?"
Ehlers does not seem flustered by the threats, nonchalantly strolling towards the junction at the end of the corridor.
Jarif Selvaunt |
Oh goodness... Jarif inserts himself into the Chelaxian standoff. "We've no ill intent, unless it be to the walking bones of the previously dead. I'm pretty sure we're friends! We were on our way to Kassen when we heard someone was trapped in here, and we came to help. We're glad to find you alive! Please, no crossbows... or anything else!"
Goldilocks "Sugarsnap" |
truffles, calm down.... Goldi starts to say when she recognizes the voice.
Mr. K? is that you, ya big lug, its me Goldi. Are you alright? I'll sent Truffles down to ya ok?
Mr. K is a nickname goldi has always called you since she could never pronounce your name correctly.

Haska watches the scene unfold. A survivor; finally some good news in this mess.

Ka'narg |
"Goldi, is that you? By the wind and the waves.. hold on."
After a short scuffling of boots on hardened ground and the scraping of items from in front of the door, the door opens a crack to reveal a half-orc man of about nineteen years on the other side, looking like he hasn't slept well in days. His eyes appear to be scanning at the head height level for a gnome, and if the person in front is taller, a scowl quickly replaces his tired countenance, and the tip of a dagger appears in the crack in the door as well.
So very sorry - in the pure crazy of my week at work last week, I could have sworn that I had written a response, but apparently not :( Very sorry to have held the game up for this long - it won't happen again.
Ehlers Danlos |
"You must be Mr K. Great. Are you all that is left, orc?"
Ehlers steps fully into view of the crack in the door, still at casual ease holding his illuminated staff in one hand.
Ka'narg |
"The name is Ka'narg, and other than Roldare it would appear so."
The half-orc steps aside and helps move the door open enough to let people slip past the barricade behind it. "Now get yourselves in here before the shadow to the south awakens again."
Ehlers Danlos |
"You seem hale Ka'narg, ran before the fight began did you? Tell us of this 'shadow' and while your at it, what in the abyss is a Roldare?"
Ehlers steps into the room.
Ka'narg |
Ka'narg narrows his eyes at the rude elf. "For your information I was felled first in a battle against a horde of skeletons. When I came to, the rest of my companions had either fled or been taken. I made it back to this room where I was given a potion of healing by Roldare," he says, motioning to the source of the first voice heard by Ehlers and the others. "Also, Roldare is one of the townsfolk who came before my companions and I to prepare the way for us, I suppose you could put it.
"His sister is still missing, so unless you've more than a snarky attitude to accompany you, I suggest you leave."
Ehlers Danlos |
"'Felled first' my mistake, not a coward but a hom. (Orcish:Weakling) You must show us where you fell, there may be other survivors of friend Roldare's 'preperations'"
FYI i'm using Klingon for Orcish
Lord Admiral Truffles |
Truffles rushes in to greet Ka'narg once there is enough room.
though at first it looks like he is charging in to attack, it ends up much more like a puppy meeting an old friend after a long absence.
Goldilocks "Sugarsnap" |
Goldi makes her way in as best she can You OK? I have a little bit of healing left.
Goldi immediately starts to check over "Mr. K" and Roldare I'm sorry about these guys, I met them in the woods when I found Jaer badly wounded in the woods. Don't worry, She's ok and was taken back to the village.

Jarif Selvaunt |
"His sister is still missing, so unless you've more than a snarky attitude to accompany you, I suggest you leave."
Jarif moves in, honoring Ka'narg's urgency. He looks troubled at word of another person missing in the crypt. He ignores Ehlers, and steps on the elf's undiplomatic words, speaking over top of the glib elf, addressing Ka'narg.
"Do you have any idea where this sister is? Is she in danger from this 'shadow' too? If we're safe here--are we safe here?--do we need to go find her?"
"'Felled first' my mistake, not a coward but a hom. (Orcish:Weakling) You must show us where you fell, there may be other survivors of friend Roldare's 'preperations'"
Roldare |
FYI i'm using Klingon for Orcish
One thing - on languages please check with me beforehand. I have a standard set I use.
Roldare stares at the newcomers. "It's been nice to have the company, but Dimira is still the death-speaker's captive. And Krayl's still angry, since the others took his dagger."
Ehlers Danlos |
Ehlers leaves the others to talk and begins to look around the room and at the barricade, looking for anything useful
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28
Ka'narg |
Ka'narg kneels down as the happy boar approaches, patting the porcine beast on the head and giving a scratch behind the ears, surreptitiously tucking the dagger back into his boot. He turns to look at Goldi, relief flooding his face. "Jaer's alive? That is good news - when I found the dagger she was using and nothing more, I feared the worst. That she found help is better."
As Roldare explains to the newcomers who Dimira is and who has her, the half-orc turns his head to the man. "In all fairness, the shade was very angry before Jaer took its dagger from the brazier. She damn near burned her hand to uselessness to do so as well."
