GM Shady - been doing some more refining of character's backstory (Cornish myth and folklore) and was struck with a twist for my character, that grew into an niggle lol...
Am mulling the idea of Eoten having two heads... (in the spirit of the Ettin and also due to the fact many Cornish/Old English giants seemed to sport multiple noggins).
I've a few ideas on the mechanics - the Intellect reduction from the good Professor is simply his intellect being split 2 ways. Some fun schtick elements too and decent game mechanics (adding Uncanny Dodge and Second Chance for example)
Wanted to sound you out before I made any changes as this bolt of left field inspiration came about after selection.
Note - would not necessitate a rebuild, just some minor tweaking of powers, advantages and abilities.
Let me know what you reckon GM-S

Yeah, I think you're going to have a hard time getting people to trust you and not recoil in fear at the sight of your two heads.
Also, it seems like you intended for Æthelweard to still be "himself" in his giant form, albeit with decreased intelligence and struggling to keep his destructive instincts under control. A two-headed creature with two distinct personalities doesn't fit with that.
Eoten - Giant of Albion |
Tweaked Eoten's powers - dropped the Impervious Toughness as we have that in spades with Challenger and Gracie. Added Contacts (British Museum) for Æthelweard (ties into his background as a archaeologist and scholar).

Decided I don't really like the Shapeable area effect. Switched it to a Burst.
Also, I thought it might be cool if I picked up a Duplication power with the Feedback flaw. In reality, this would be Lightning Blade quickly moving back and forth between two positions, attacking from both places in the same round. They both get hurt when the duplicate is attacked, because they are actually the same person.
On the other hand, it would take 20 points to create a duplicate equal in power to me, which is a pretty significant loss. And we may already have our share of melee fighters without another version of me crowding things up.
What do you guys think?

Hmm, maybe it could also be Limited to performing the same actions as me every round. If it can't, it disappears and has to be summoned again.
I like it - Chain Lighting per say.
@Gracie: Aye - Impervious Toughness is damn handy but Eoten is still pretty sturdy without it.

I like it - Chain Lighting per say.
Oh, that's good. Mind if I use that?
I might need some time to make the numbers work, but I'll try to be ready when the action starts.

Cool. I'll drop one rank of flight speed in exchange for:
Chain Lightning
Duplicate, rank 10 (+3/rank)
Feedback (-1/rank)
Limited to same actions as Lightning Blade (-1/rank)
Check required: Acrobatics DC 19 (-9)
Total: (1*10) - 9 = 1
Barring unusual circumstances, I can only fail the check on a natural 1. It'll be a somewhat situational power, but incredibly useful when fighting a single tougher enemy.
(Also it'll look really cool, and that's what matters most.)

Sorry about delay in posting - while waiting, could you please put commonly required stats (e.g. initiative, perception etc) in your profile lines so I can pick them off quickly? Lightning Blade has it and I think Spellbound, but it would save me a fair bit of time getting going with combat posts.
Thanks.

Am indeed - like I said the setting detail has been great - kudos to GM Shady and am looking forward to seeing how the group develop.
Still mulling over the right feel for Eoten's character and speech - to make him distinct, but also an extension of the Professor as well. Regardless having a blast thusfar :)

Got back from my business trip, catching up on the way too many campaigns I'm playing/running (as well as work). Anyhow.
Gracie's response to the commander was before they left the chopper, which I'd why I was careful to quote what she was responding to so the timing was obvious. She would not be arguing once they disembarked. If we can't backtag (respond to earlier scenes) developing RP is going to be tough, since we all post at different times.
Backtagging is usually fine but if it demands a response (and the issue here is insubordination more than it is misuse of the comm) I then have to insert it into the thread without it somehow forking into multiple timelines. I thought it better to treat it that way for that reason. I think dramatically it did work though, and if you're ok with it I will feed it into the character's arc.
@Longbow - fine to adjust the character for now, just don't do it too often!
@Lightning - also fine to change your action.
@Eoten - Eoten is Old English myth, maybe fish out a copy of Beowulf (Heaney's version?) and use the rhythms in that. Use words with Old English origins (avoid French, Greek etc words), plenty of compound made-words and move the participles to the end of the sentence.
Right I will go and set up initiative for what is now a cast of 1000 or so characters.

Understood not wanting to disrupt the flow. My issue is she would not talk back when the fight was about to start--it makes her look like she doesn't care what's about to happen or would endanger the team just to have an argument, when the whole point is she is concerned for their safety--most of her complications are about her being concerned with doing the right thing, after all. I do not want something she never would have done to be part of her "arc."
I'll be careful about timing her responses, and will err on the side of not responding if it would risk her being mischaracterized or misinterpreted.
Eoten - Giant of Albion |
Mmm last dialogue was a little too Shakespeary upon reflection.
Will go with the flow... Pulled up and Old English translator that I used in one of my own games - will reference that.
Still getting my head round the rules and how they'll actually play out in-game rather than on the page.

Yep, been running my own game for awhile and weekends always slow down. We're doing well especially given there is a lot to track.
GM Shady, if you decide to use a map, FWIW I find sharing a GoogleDraw document works well--if you set it to "any one with link may edit" people can move their own pieces; if you want to control it, just set it to "anyone with link may view." You can use its own limited drawing tools or import a map from elsewhere (including simply copy-pasting from other websites). There are other resources of course as well but this is pretty easy to use and accessible without requiring people to make an account at a site or something.
Good Knight Gracie |
I personally prefer nothing I have to make a new account for--I've tried to set a moratorium on random gamer accounts as it seems too easy to get overloaded with stuff to keep track of. Hopefully in that case we can manage without--but if that's what is used I'll go along with whatever works best for the group.
Eoten - Giant of Albion |
I'm with GKG on this one - not too found of multiple accounts to access same pbp info - and the boards are far more convenient as you can update several games in one sitting.
That being said if it becomes a deal breaker then I'll revisit.
GM Shady |
It's only for maps (and potentially for counter placement where required), any game play happens in here. I am I think running 7 campaigns and playing in 3. Two GM gigs I inherited don't use Roll20 but the hassle for me managing counter-play on Google Draw is enough that I'm not going back to it.
Should say if it's a static map then I'm happy with Google Draw.
