GM ShadowLord's SFS #01-01: The Commencement (Inactive)

Game Master The Rising Phoenix

All Starfinders complete their training by conferring with Guidance—a network of uploaded personalities embodying paragons from the Starfinder Society's history. Before receiving the blessing of Guidance, the PCs must meet with and assist critical missions on behalf of key leaders of the Society's leading factions. With the events of the Scoured Stars Incident still fresh in everyone's memory, there's plenty that needs doing to set the Society back on track.

Harrac turns a critical eye to the trap, "well designed Lan." He moves to grab the handle of the extinguisher and looks back at the others, "ready?" Just as they indicate they are, he turns toward the door and Harrac screams as he slips and the "well designed" trap goes off.

With that settled, Harrac leads the group towards the doorway with the intention of grabbing the fire extinguisher. As he nears it however, the trap is triggered by some unseen mechanism. The fire extinguisher opens up and begins to unleash gallons upon gallons of the fire retardant foam all around the room. The entire party is doused with the chemical as it takes nearly a full minute for it to full empty all of its contents.

–2 penalty to ranged attacks and skill checks for 1 hour; Reflex DC 11 avoids.

Once the extingguisher is emptied, he is finally allowed to open the door. Sort of. It's hard to see in here. It seems like the life support systems have gone haywire like the other systems around here. There's so much moisture in the air that it's like a fog cloud.

This area consists of two adjoining chambers. Four large containment capsules fill the fore room, three of which hold stasis-locked objects, including a tablet, a strange curved sword, and an odd spiral of bio-luminescent coral. A crack leaks fluid from the fourth capsule, which displays a foot-wide breach near the bottom. The aft room contains several desks, each hosting a deactivated computer terminal.

There are holes everywhere, about a half meter wide. It looks like it's chewing through walls and coming out places. It MUST be the cause of all the trouble.

You can find their pet with a Survival check, you could try to follow the path with an Acrobatics check (watch out for sharp edges!), or you could use your knowledge of Engineering to deduce where the pet is now in relation to the holes.

Kai was still getting the sweets from the kids and turning back towards the door when the trap went off. He managed to turn just in time to avoid catching blast full on in the face, and he reeled to the side coughing and choking. Kai was too busy trying to cough fire suppressant out of his lungs to berate Harrac, but it would come. Oh yes, he would remember that for the future.

Eyes streaming from a combination of the flame retardant and the coughing, Kai tried to figure out where the creature had gone, based on his memory of the plans and the holes in the wall.

"Between the fire extinguisher and whatever this stuff is, I'm going to need an hour in the sonic scrubber to feel clean after this mission."

"What the..." Jena never completes her sentence as she gawks at the incoming spray. To her chagrin, much of it is forced down her throat, up her nose, in her eyes, ears, and drenches much of her clothing. Choking, she staggers to the side, crashing into the wall, clawing at her throat and retching. She falls to her hands and knees, coughing up flame retardant foam and gagging. Warning lights flash in her eyes as her systems report degradation from the foam infiltrating throughout her senses.

Several minutes later, she lies in a pool of foam, continually coughing and rubbing her eyes. Sitting up, she starts to dig the foam out of her ears as best she can while tears stream down her face from the chemicals affecting her eyes. "alp... ppft" she croaks. She coughs up another large amount of foam and clears her throat. "Help me up..." she says in a husky voice. She reaches out her hand for anyone.

In her head, she deals with the warning lights flashing before her eyes as each affected system reports a degraded state. Great.... I'm going to hurt someone."

Inari is talking with the children when she hears a loud burst and screams of agony behind her. Turning quickly to see what is unfolding she screams out "NOOOOOO! Not in these shoes!" as she quickly leaps grabbing hold of the scaffolding above her. Once she sees a clearing she hops down and enters the dark room.

"Hrm, look at those holes. I am sure that has something to do with blue here. Lets see if we can follow his trail."

Once more Bewm and Kai prove they have more than their share of technical proficiency. They quickly pinpoint the most likely location of the creature due to the chewing patterns and holes throughout the room. After their deduction they throw something into the hole they suspect the creature is hiding in and are rewarded when a sudden a creature pops out!

It looks like an eight legged cat with a head the size of its body, and most of THAT is taken up by a mouth that contains rows upon rows of teeth. The eyes stare at the party as Bewm flushes it out. It begins making a series of noises that are far too complex for animal intelligence, but there's nothing remotely close to an understandable language.

It's obvious NONE of you have ever encountered, or even heard of, anything like this. You can blast it or catch it. Catching it won't be easy. I'll take an Acrobatics, Athletics, or Diplomacy check.

The party quickly works together to corner, and capture the strange creature. Not a single one of you know what it is, so you can assume this is a first contact of some variety. The children CLEARLY had no idea what this new "pet" was.

Fitch is ecstatic! You've managed to not only help with the situation, but you've discovered a new species! It doesn't take him long to contact HQ and before long you get a call back from Guidance asking you to return.

The intelligence once again presents itself in a holographic form—this time taking on the appearance of a wizened male Korasha Lashunta — to congratulate you on your successful missions. It goes on to state that in the aftermath of the Scoured Stars incident, the Society needs skilled agents more than ever, and that it sees potential in YOU as you start your new careers as Starfinder field agents.

By not only completing all your missions, but completing them WELL, your reputation within the organization quickly begins to grow.
