If you'll notice Sunday we aren't doing anything else really, Yavanee went to get what she needed from and close up her shop for now, Jess refused to go anywhere and instead is resting, and Grace is now finding a bath here as opposed to leaving the grounds for it.

It's not about you leaving Rysky. We can only do one thing as a group or totally split. People is just giving their own reasons.

I totally understand your point, but we want to rest not because Kiley is now an NPC. As the character, it might be he only sees this option and even get angry, but as a player there are plenty of angles from you can see at the situation.

First, if this was not a game, we would not assume we have the capacity to rescue Kiley at all, we would not assume the challenge of the enemy lair is according to our capabilities. Daud might decide to suicide trying to go help her, but most of the other characters will probably weight the risk and attempt first gathering info about the place defenses, confirm if Kiley is really there and where, and then will probably attempt to get tones of other people involved in the rescue, the most the better, raising the temple, the guard or paid mercenaries against the enemy.

Secondly, our hp counter will not be just a number but ribs and arms broken, bleeding wounds and we will have terrible morale and frustration problems by now. We will hardly move tonight even if we desperately wanted because our bodies will simply not respond.

I totally understand you want to play Daud as a desperate soul who cannot care less about his own safety. But there is plenty of room to explain in character why we have to perform a game mechanic, refresh, so despite in character you can disagree, I think as a player you find ways to understand the group decision (I think we did not even took yet that decision). If this was just a story, a narration, that will probably not matter and you could do practically anything because the paper just holds it, but ultimately this is also a game, and if we want to keep it fun for everybody we need to keep making some assumptions, like we can face most challenges we are thrown, and splitting or never resting means very probably the end of the group.

Now, most of us seem to prefer resting (we can vote it), by stating you are done and you are leaving so we can have fun, you are basically emotionally blackmailing us. Which feels very crappy because I like Sunday's character and appreciate you as a player.

Wow. We're opening up to Spheres of Power? That's a very different system of magic from the spellcasting the other three magic users in the party have. I hope it doesn't cause issues.

So far it just reads as a slightly more versatile version of the 3.5 Warlock with more melee power. Seems pretty on par with a well built Magus of the same level but I guess we'll have to see how things play out.

Me too, but I'm planning on sticking with the Destruction Spheres. I can just as easily rebuild her as a barbarian or go with one of the other characters I've been wanting to play. I've been thinking about Ragnhildr's background and well, here's her updated crunch

Never played 3.5. I got started in Pathfinder when I was in college back in 2011. I have an option to do 1d10+2d6+4 with the Energy Blade shape, I can add another d6 by burning a spell-point, but that takes a standard action, so no full attack if I do it.

I've switched out a trait, shuffled some skill points and gave her some backup weapons.

Just incase one of those might be a better fit, here's the characters I would play.

Ragnhildr: A young, but battle-worn woman from one of the ulfen clans to the north. She arrived in Varisia a few days ago and was hoping to attend the Swallowtail Festival in Sandpoint. Obviously, she's a little late to the party.

She's a stalwart ally and will not break her word if given. On the flip side, she's a Desnan and loves to learn new stories and see new places. I imagine her being on the earthy side, and not a big follower of protocol. I also see her as being a person that lives life like there's no tomorrow, carousing with friends and enjoying her time with them.

Gkirkhan: A tall, almost too-handsome half-orc. He's not very bright, or wise, but he's charming in a goofy sort of way. He has a straightforward way of dealing with things, and love of friendly brawling. He'd be a fighter/Barbarian multiclass.

Angus Alehammer: The son of a retired Ulfen Guardsman and the daughter of a Taldane noble, Angus wound up in Magnimar after being shipped off. He's a little cagey about why, but it doesn't take long for anyone to guess it is his disdain for any kind of political authority figure, having seen the worst of Taldane politics. He's a trickster at heart and enjoys showing young nobles with more testosterone than sense what he thinks of them by embarrassing them in duels. He'd probably be either a fighter/rogue, swashbuckler, or slayer.

Ragnhildr's Story:

Near the shadows of the Grungir's boughs stands a keep atop a hill, it's ancient stones stained by time and blood and fire. It has seen the fall of countless Linnorm Kings and the rise of the Irisseni witches to the east. Within its walls live a clan known as the Whitescales, named for the magical shield gifted to clan that now hangs in the feasthall.

Nineteen years ago, a baby girl was born, and right away, the clan knew she would be special. Her hair was white, a sign that she had been touched by the spirits of winter and her eyes silver, though they changed with her mood, turning more blue when excited or agitated and more gray when her even her spirits became dampened. They named her Ragnhildr.

She showed a talent for swordplay at an early age which was just as well. The Whitescales had enjoyed a long period of peace, but a hag, intent on carrying the child off and selling her to the Jadwiga had watched the clan carefully, and stole into the keep on a moonless night to snatch the young girl from her bed.

She succeeded, but in the act drew the wrath of the clan on her head. Not even an hour passed before the hag was forced to flee for her life, carrying the young girl to the east. The hag was not without allies though. Frost trolls and ogres moved to slaughter the riders following the hag as ice-hearted fey kept pace with the hag.

It was then that the child awoke and proved that name was not for nothing. Even though she was bound and far smaller than the hag carrying her, she fought, scorching the hag with lightning and chilling her flesh with frost. The hag managed to knock the girl unconscious, but she was too wounded to continue running. The riders caught the hag and slaughtered the fey.

For the next seven years Ragnhildr found her clan beset by a bevy of hags, witches, and mad crones all seeking to avenge their sister or to take the young woman for their own purposes. Finally, though, the last of them fell and the Whitescales once more could feel at peace.

The moon turned and word was brought to the keep that a festival was taking place to the south, the Swallowtail Festival. Ragnhildr, restless and wanting to see beyond the lands around her home, left the next day with the blessings and well-wishes of her family. Though it would appear that luck was not on the young woman's side. her ship sailed not to Magnimar, but to Korvosa, and the approaching winter left Ragnhildr with little choice. She left on foot for the City fo Monuments.

The journey was long and hard. More than once she was attacked, but goblins are no match for the fury of winter and her blade, and bandits soon learned the folly of attack the young, silver haired woman. Now she is at the gates, dirty and tired, looking for anywhere she might rest and take a hot bath.

Alright, there is a lot of tension here and I'd like to try and find a way to gentle defuse it if possible. First and foremost, I don't want to see anyone leave or quit the game.

I'm going to kick the group off on the next morning and get the ball rolling again. I must admit I don't have a lot of great material to tie Ragnhildr to the story yet, but one thing did catch my attention. The end of her story she mentions she just arrived in Magnimar and needed a hot bath.

Can all the girls who are at the baths somehow tie together a reason or way to pull Ragnhildr in somehow to accompany them to the "stone tree" the next day? I'd like Ragnhildr to set off with you if possible.

Perhaps there could be a bit of background rewriting? Perhaps he can be Yavenee's part-time bodyguard for when the natives get particularly anti-witch? And he happened to be at the shop when she woke up that morning?

They are both from the north... so it might be a good solution.

We can look also further into the adventure. I do not know about Yavenee motivations to follow us back into Sandpoint. Maybe her relationship with Ragnhildr can provide a reason to tie them further into the adventure?

We discovered some ruins under Sandpoint, so maybe they can have a genuine interest on studying those ones or the goblin's lair ones? Perhaps a rumor or profecy that motivates them to explore or defend the place? Maybe some other campaign trait might give a good quest motivation to defend Sandpoint?

Or perhaps Ragnhildr also has someone kidnapped by our enemies and we find him there attacking or infiltrating the place. He might be also looking to save Kiley, or be held prisoner with her. He can even be an old friend of Daud or any other character, for whatever reason he was looking for him and Shalelu told him he was here in Magnimar and has finally found us in the temple.

Actually, if you guys need Ragnhildr at the Shadow Clock, why not have the Brotherhood sheperd her there? Sure, she could cut her way through the cultists, but a pragmatic warrior would try to avoid a fight, even if they knew their enemy was trying to herd them somewhere. If GM Shadowlord doesn't mind e doing my own narration, I have an idea for a pretty cool entrance.

Aifa Whitescale (aka Shadowlord's hostage):

Aifa grew up in the Whitescale Keep alongside Ragnhildr. She was born a few months after Ragnhildr, but the two of them were more like sisters than cousins growing up. While Ragnhildr studied the sword, Aifa studied the bow. The younger Whitescale left for Varisia a year before and became a scout for caravans, and a bodyguard for her employers.

She has a cheerful demeanor, and is able to keep joking, even in the grimmest of situations. She has red hair, blue eyes, and fair, freckled skin. She wears a chain shirt over a thick, long-sleeved tunic and a thick kilt over her trousers. Her boots are sturdy, meant for travelling, and she wears bracers on her forearms.

Sadly, her last job went sour. She was hired to help protect a middle-aged merchant from whoever was murdering wealthy merchants left and right. She fought well, but she was overwhelmed and made to watch as they carved a seven-pointed star in her employer's chest, then killed him by ripping out his throat and shattering his jaw.

She was spared, though, and taken to the Shadow Clock. Why? She does not know, though she expects nothing good to come of it.


GM Only:

I know we talked about it and I said I was okay with her dying, but I just wanted to point out that crippling her would have the same effect, and might be more impactful emotionally. It'd also give you the opportunity to show Aifa's more protective side.

Speaking of Aifa, she'd be a ranger following the archery track. I don't have any stats for her beyond that though.
