Fleeing with unceasing screams and garbled comments about their own melting faces and yellowed skulls, Horus and Pioni make no sense to the others, who merely look into the dark pool with disinterest. The Mosaic here is ornate and obviously well cared for over the years, each generation of villagers ensuring that their own children know the tale of their ancestors.
As their own screams can be heard echoing down the corridors of the place, you can hear the skittering cries of small creatures as they pour in through the opened portcullis.

Seeing he is the only one prepared to meet this new threat emerging into the room, Helm draws a flask of acid from his bandolier, draws back his arm, and lets it fly. The samurai's throw is perfect in its precision, striking the swarm dead-center and spraying them with acid.
He then moves back toward the entry. "Spread out!" he warns.

Hmm, this might be bad without anyone having Alchemical weapons. I will remind you that you have a bottle of brandy to use as an improvised Molotov, takes a full-round to prepare and throw as in the rules...
As Sesska backs away and draws forth a treated branch prepared to be a torch, the bats screech in pain-fuelled rage flocking over the Half-Orc warrior and seeking to shred his skin. The other horde, wary for now wait beyond the Portculis as more bats awaken and flock together.
Horus continues his blood-curdling screams and tears off after Pioni. Once in the rounded chamber they find themselves able to stop, breathing heavily, the fear of their visions still remains preventing them from returning to the pool room for now...

Falling back at Helm's shouted orders, Sesska and the good Doctor retreats into the library room with her un-lit brand. With flint and steel Sesska manages to get the torch lit. Still panting heavily, Pioni and Horus wait in the central chamber, the thought of going on too much for them at the moment as the horrific images sear their mind.
Meanwhile, the enraged bats swarm forth over Sesska and Horus, their sharp teeth and claws nicking away at the two warriors. In the other room, the other mass of bats begins to move forwards.
As they hear their allies cry out, Pioni and Horus regain their backbone to rejoin the fray.

Horus staggers back dry-heaving as Sesska necks the healing potion she had drawn, some of her wounds closing and her bleeding coming to a halt before she drops her torch at Pionis feet and backs out of the cave
It seems that divine guidance is exactly what Pioni needed, though failed to find as her make-shift molotov strikes the corner of the bookcase, covering one of the bats in burning alcohol but little else.

"Well fought," he says to the others. "And thank you for your healing magics," he says to Horus and the Doctor.
"Let us continue past this water, but do not look into it," he suggests.
On to the next room, then...
Sethran-GM |
Healed up and collecting yourselves, you manage to pass through the room with the Haunted pool and impressive fresco and into a small chamber filled with more ancient shelves, bare of anything other than bat guano and dust. Another Corridor leads you to another chamber, a quick check of the door shows it to be unlocked and missing any nasty surprises.
Pushing open the door to reveal the room beyond you find that the vaulted ceiling of this vast chamber shows significant signs of damage, with numerous cracks along its surface. In the centre of the room, a 10-foot-wide bridge crosses a deep chasm. On the other side, a pair of stone statues watch over the end of the bridge in front of a set of grand brass double doors. The statues depict villagers holding shields and spears.

Cautiously making your way across the bridge, you spy a pressure plate in the centre of the structure, Sesska is then easily able to render it inert, the nasty trap looking like it was designed to sweep you all from the bridge and into the chasms to either side.
A large set of Brass doors bar your path, they are unbarred. What do you do?
Dr. Rygel |
"If the rest of this place is anything to go by, I shouldn't be expecting a warm welcome."
Rygel stays behind Helm as the doors open, crossbow at the ready.
Helm Akodo |
Once the others have cast any spells they are going to cast, Helm pushes the doors open.
Guessing we have all healed to full with all the channeling we had. If not, I have a wand for anyone to heal with first.
Sethran-GM |
Yep, fully Healed!
Having the blessing of Horus settle upon you all, Helm steps forwards and pushes on the large ornate doors. The wide brass doors swing open on silent hinges to reveal a vast crypt. The only light emanates from a torch mounted above the crypt, flickering with a pale golden fire. Tall pillars march across the chamber, ending at a dais on the far side, on
which is set a large stone sarcophagus. A single form rests beside the coffinn, that of a comely woman in tattered clothing. She appears to be asleep or unconscious.
As you all take tentative steps inside the grand chamber, a dry mirthless laugh echoes through the space, its source initially hard to pinpoint.
“So, Kassen’s heroes have come to fight me again. You will make fine minions in my army of the dead. Come and meet your fate.” With that, a wicked-looking skeleton strides into view wearing polished mail and brandishing a cruel sword in both hands. A cold blue flame burns in its empty eye sockets. As it does so, you can hear the familiar creaking of Skeletons standing from the sides of the room.
