Harethvain |
Harethvain notices that neither human screams in agony when they interact with the trunk, so he joins them in investigating its contents.
"I shall examine the scrolls and the compass." Harethvain attempts to find a clear surface upon which he can study the writings.
If it has not been 10 minutes since the room with the temple of Nethys, then read magic is still up, and skill checks will likely be unnecessary on the scrolls. Without identify or detect magic, Harethvain cannot determine whether the compass is magical

G'Boar Hulighan |
after doing some research, I think that G'Boar would benefit nicely from the Buckler... he can use his bow or an off hand weapon with the buckler strapped to his arm... the masterworks studded leather armor is also interesting but if someone else could benefit immediately from its use (i.e. Kayla or Terps) then please do. I recommend that the short bow go to Terps as to aid in any ranged attacks. G'Boar is an expert archer and can give some pointers, but I understand that there could be some penalties for her use of the short bow. Of course Hare should have the scrolls, unless they are clerical in nature!
Kayla Striegold |
"Strange," Kayla says to no one in particular. "This looks like a complete set of gear for an adventurer...I wonder who it belonged to? The equipment is not old, so it probably wasn't left in the tower, but it is of exceptional workmanship and so probably doesn't belong to the troglodytes." She shrugs her shoulders and continues to look around the room.
G'Boar Hulighan |
G'Boar joints Kayla in the southernmost room with the chest. He adds,"Maybe we should see what awaits us on the rest of this level... I vote for this door here, leading to the Northeast."
G'Boar does his customary check for traps...

G'Boar Hulighan |
Quietly, but with urgency, G'Boar alerts this compatriots, "Team, there's something, or more likely someone, in this next room... I don't think it's a Trog, unless they have learned the common tounge."
He prepairs to enter the room, awaiting his companions to ready themselves for the possibility of more combat.
Terpsicore |
Seeing G'Boar ready himself for more combat, Terpsicore quickly kneels and places Scherzo on the ground next to the treasure chest. She then equips herself with the masterwork rapier and prepares for combat herself.
She then hesitates slightly and whispers, "Maybe we could talk to them, instead of barging through the door? I happen to be quite diplomatic when the occasion calls for it..."
GM &rew |
Inside this tiny room are two humanoid creatures, chained to the walls. One, an older human male, looks at you fearfully, as if expecting you to be the large troglodyte. He is bruised and bleeding from several gashes, and his wrists are red and raw from extended rubbing by the manacles that hold him to the wall. The other creature appears to be an elf. He is also in manacles but appears in much better shape than the human - perhaps he has only recently been captured...
Dave - you're up! Please give an introduction =)
Maldor Brock |
"Oh praise be to Saranae! Please, you have to help us escape! My name is Maldor Brock, and I am a member of the Pathfinder Society in Absalom. The troglodytes are planning to sacrifice us to their dark gods...we must move quickly!" He holds out his bound wrists and implores you to remove the manacles. "My equipment is likely somewhere close by. If you help me retrieve it I can be of some use as we escape from these foul creatures..."
G'Boar Hulighan |
"So you two are just 'hanging out?' Well our Rogue has a key we found on the large mass of green, rank filth in the room we just came from. Maybe it will fit those manacles." G'Boar adds, "...and this exquisite studed leather, rapier and bow we found must belong to one of you. But whoever owns it, if you die during the course of this adventure, I would like to lay claim to your armor!" with a chuckle.
Harethvain |
Harethvain retrieves the scrolls and compass from his bag. "I assume these belong to one of you, as well."
He is glad to see a fellow elf, but disheartened that it is in such present conditions.
Kayla Striegold |
Kayla huffs a little, walks over to Terpsicore, and takes the key. She then returns to the makeshift cell, unlocks the manacles for both prisoners, and says, "You are free to go. Or you may join us as we finish exploring this tower. Either way, we must be moving on. Here is the equipment we found..."
Maldor Brock |
The older man gratefully accepts his freedom and his belongings. "Like you, I wanted to explore this newly opened tower, but I was overpowered by the troglodytes and imprisoned. I would help you in your journey and see what else is in here. As I said, my name is Maldor Brock, and I am a bard of some talent." He finishes putting on his gear and nods that he is ready to go.
G'Boar Hulighan |
"Well met, Maldor. I am G'Boar and may the blessings of Tinker the Great Boar be upon you. Welcome to our troop." G'Boar hands the Bard some clean cloth strips from his pack to bind his wounds and stem the blood flow from his beatings.
"And what of you, friend?" G'Boar asks of the formerly chained elf. "You have been noticeably quiet since our arrival. I must warn, if you decide to leave our company we could not guarantee your safe departure. There are some monstrous 'survivors' along our trail to this point."
G'Boar leaves his question to fester and adjusts his equipment and shield, then moves towards the unopened door back in the bunk-room, ready to continue the journey.
ManFromIo |
Kayla and Brock follow G'Boar into the bunk room. The bard stands back a little, willing to aid the group but not take a front line position...
The half-elf stands, wobbly on his feet and says "My name is Toldyn, I am grateful for this rescue...It appears I have a head injury."
GM &rew |
With the party additions ready to go, the young band approaches the last closed door on the north-east wall. You hear nothing through the door, and detect no traps.
Please place your icons on the map in the order you wish when you open the door. For Toldyn, it's the "Map and Handouts" link at the top of the page.
G'Boar Hulighan |
G'Boar decides that since he is already by the door he should lead the way, so he grips his sword and shield and stands by for the rest of the party to acknowledge their readiness to enter the north-east door from the bunk room.
with or without acknowledgement, I'm going through that door tomorrow! ;) (Sunday, 5 April)
Kayla Striegold |
Kayla takes up a position behind G'Boar, and Brock stands behind her. She has placed another bolt in her crossbow and has it aimed at the door, ready for whatever they may find on the other side...
Maldor Brock |
Brock looks a little worse for wear, and takes up a position behind the young cleric. "I am ready when you are, good sir!" he says with bravado.
G'Boar Hulighan |
G'Boar works the ancient door latch mechanism as gently as he can, trying to avoid any unnecessary noise. Slowly he opens the door and surveys the layout of the next space looking for anything that might pose a threat to him or his companions. He whispers a quick offering of praise to his deity and steps in...
let's do this!
Terpsicore |
Terpsicore reluctantly returns the masterwork rapier to its owner and takes up Scherzo again, whispering to it, "I didn't mean it, dear friend. I was only testing out that other rapier to prove how much BETTER you are than it."
Terpsicore then prepares to go through the door, standing behind G'Boar and slightly to his right.
Happy Easter, y'all!!!

G'Boar freezes and quickly puts up his hand to halt his companions. In but a whisper, he warns "Have you ever seen a frog catch a fly? In this scenario I think we are the insects... so keep the 'buzzing' down and maybe we can sneak by."
Summoning all of his stealth, G'Boar keeps his shield up between the frog and himself, and his sword low and ready and slowly inches towards the south-east door...
Terpsicore |
Terpsicore enters the room behind G'Boar, takes quick stock of her surroundings, then clucks her tongue and harrumphs quietly, "This humidity will do NOTHING for my hair!! And don't let that creature anywhere NEAR me! I don't want warts!!"
She then catches on to G'Boar's intentions and silences her complaining, attempting to sneak along the southern wall behind him.

Round 1
G'Boar: Attempts to move along the southern wall in a non-threatening, but a non-food-like, manner...
Terpsicore: Follows the ranger.
Harethvain: Picks his nose in the corner...
Brock: Stays tucked safely behind Kayla, but interested in what is in the room...

Frog: The frog is quite hungry, it seems. It immediately lashes its long, sticky tongue at G'Boar! The human is hit in the chest and is now being pulled towards the giant frog!

"Oooh, how pretty! Doodler, be a dear and rapidly retrieve that jade statuette resting recumbently amid the rubbish!"
Terpsicore's mental faculties seem to be fully regained and she gestures towards the hidden treasure as she volunteers the young Harethvain for action.
Harethvain |
Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
Can Harethvain make a Knowledge check to identify anything about the figure represented by the statue?
Harethvain decides that it is actually his own volition motivating him to enter the damp chamber, not the Rapscallienne's request phrased as demand. He cautiously approaches what remains of the broken table.
Though he is not inherently bothered by the presence of the large frog, he recalls during his apprenticeship that there were more than a few awkward incidents involving unnaturally large animals, expensive and delicate arcane reagents, lack of care from a sense of familiarity, and many ruined hours of preparation as a result of the interaction between them all.
G'Boar Hulighan |
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Unaware of anything but his current sticky situation, G'Boar angrily wipes off the viscous saliva covering his chest with disgust. Although grateful they were not required to extinguish the flame of this creature, he can't help but to think about the potentially glorious banquet that could come from the proper preparation of the hind-haunches of the amphibian...
He quickly clears his head and immediately comes back on alert, knowing that the 'calls' from this giant frog might just bring more unwanted guests from elsewhere in the tower.
"We should keep moving and give this glóthach fhroig its space; who knows what manner of vile creature has been alerted by that incessant croaking."
G'Boar moves to the south-east door and prepares to breech it and looks back to his companions to fall in behind him.
G'Boar Hulighan |
"Well team, that completes this floor... onward and upward!"
G'Boar heads back to the central staircase to continue the exploration of this tower, ensuring to secure the frog room door behind him to keep the monstrous amphibian sequestered in his wet room.
GM &rew |
The four wings of the tower are completely open on this level, forming one great, cross-shaped chamber with arched ceilings. The decayed remnants of a carpet run from the doorways at the end of each wing, meeting in the center, where a spiral staircase drops out of sight below. A large, throne-like chair stands in the middle of the eastern wing next to a big chest.
Behind the throne on the balcony, staring out over the city in the distance, is a full size troglodyte, wearing a flowing cape and wearing a scimitar. Next to him is a small, white crocodile. He doesn't notice your arrival at the top of the staircase, but his stench is stronger than the younger troglodytes from below. (Everyone make a DC 13 Fort save or be sickened for 10 rounds. You have a surprise round - one move action OR one standard action - not both!)
Kayla Striegold |
Fort save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14 Kayla manages to keep her insides from coming back out at the stench of this creature! She will defer her action to see what the group does - but she has her crossbow ready...
Maldor Brock |
Maldor seems immune to the smell - perhaps because of his long stay with them...he starts reciting an epic poem of a hero overcoming hard situations and emerging triumphant. (Maldor does an (Inspire courage bard performance - characters get +1 bonus to hit and damage rolls.)
G'Boar Hulighan |
Fort save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
G'Boar recoils in disgust; first the frog spit and now vomit covers his chest. He sheaths his sword and readies his longbow for a ranged attack assuming that this Trog will be no more hospitable than the last.
Harethvain |
Fortitude: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
It would seem that G'boar and Harethvain are d20 buddies this round (Go Team "Nat 2"!)
Harethvain is unable to quell the roiling motion in his stomach. Clearly he has pushed the limits of his superior elven physiology. He decides to take a moment to regain some of his composure.
Harethvain is taking no action during the surprise round.
Terpsicore |
Fort Save: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (7) + 0 = 7
Terpsicore moans and attempts to regurgitate what little contents remain in her stomach.
"I have had ENOUGH of these stinking creatures! Scherzo, dear, are you ready for some more entertainment? I know I am!"
Terpsicore readies herself for battle and moves into flanking position with the cleric.
I can't actually move my token yet, that'll have to wait until I get home this evening! My apologies!!
G'Boar Hulighan |
After re-reading the rules, I guess I could have equipped my bow and fired a shot since I have a base attack bonus of +1,so I will post that move here. Please disregard this post if I have misinterpreted somehow.
...And yes, Harethvain... rocking the "deuces" is awesome... hopefully our attack rolls will make up for that!
G'Boar attempts to plant an arrow in the base of the skull of the Troglodyte but the regurgitation residue on his draw hand causes the arrow to slip prematurely from his release, causing the missile to miss its mark wide.
