GM-Reno's Crypt-Masks-City Trilogy Discussion

Male Logics Wizard 5/ Gamer 20+

DOT!

Dot!
And thank you - looking forward to this!

Male Logics Wizard 5/ Gamer 20+

Thanks Reno...

So, what are the guidelines for character creation? Or should we just stick to PFS guidelines?

I was checking the PFS rules and if we play straight up PFS, then there isn't enough XP to do all three in a row. This would be "Module Mode".

I could do Crypt, then something else, then Masks, then something else, then City. Another suggestion was do something to get to level 2, then run Crypt, Masks, and City. You'd be level 4 for City, which is a little low, but it's doable.

Alternatively, they can be run in "Campaign Mode" which allows for any rules, but you can apply the chronicle sheet to any of your existing characters.

Module Mode: Pathfnder Society Roleplaying Guild characters are the only characters allowed. All Roleplaying Guild rules must be followed. Most modules only give credit to legal Roleplaying Guild characters.

Campaign Mode: For sanctioned modules and Adventure Paths, GMs are allowed to use their own rules for character creation and running the presented content (the entire book or series). Credit is applied to an appropriate Roleplaying Guild character as if the character created was a pregenerated character.

I'll leave that decision up to the group. However, I'd follow standard PFS character creation either way.

I honestly do not mind either option, so will defer to consensus of the rest.

Anyone have any character leanings? I have a couple of vague concepts and wondered what others were considering.

Male Logics Wizard 5/ Gamer 20+

As for PFS, I would be fine with either as well. I say we go with campaign and play what we like for it and get credit if we choose to.

As for concepts I was toying with a few things earlier. Basically I would rather not play an arcane boom type character, otherwise I am up for anything at this point.

Grenfax, what are the concepts you are considering?

The two I have so far

A half-orc dragon blooded fighter (I forget the archetype, but it is from Legacy of Dragons). Gets cool dragon themed abilities instead of armor training and some feats. Besides that, mainly two-handed fighter smashing character.

A gnome or halfling Pei Xi oracle (my spelling is off) which is an archetype from Healer's Handbook, revolving around alchemy like things and lay on hands. Looking at the nature mystery or the new on Succor from the same source.

I was also looking at some kind of rogue like character but nothing jumped out at me before I saw the dragon/fighter concept and that kind of fell into place.

Dot!

Sounds like fun. Thanks for the invite!

I'd like to do as PFS if possible. Either mode is fine with me.

Is there any particular theme for the party based on the modules? Where do these adventures take place on Golarion?

Male Logics Wizard 5/ Gamer 20+

Hey guys...

So, unless someone really wants to play the healer I will volunteer, and also fill the role of back up boom.

Gnome Fire Mystery Pei Zin Oracle. I picture him as kind of like Egg-Shen from Big Trouble In Little China.

(Edited)
This is assuming Reno is cool with me using the Spontaneous Alchemy stuff from the Alchemy Manual.

But if not I can still play the healer, just might be a different version.

The first module starts and takes place in Nirmathas. Ideally, you're from the town of Kassen. I added some info to the campaign info tab. I'll some more NPCs and Locations later.

@ J Scot - I am considering a number of things... I have been leaning away from martial characters, so sorcerer, rogue/bard,
druids and rangers have always been a favorite, and this would be a good setting for those.
As i am considering such a wide variety,I may wait and see where Ebonezer goes...

Male Human (Chelaxian) Warpriest/7 - Hellknight/4

Seems J Scot really wants to be the healer so I won't stop him. I don't mind going the martial route if you're more interested in skilled/arcane. I have a few ideas along that road but nothing solid yet.

Just thought I should mention: Anything published by Paizo is okay. If there's anything from a 3rd party source, check with me first.

Male Logics Wizard 5/ Gamer 20+

Hey guys...

So yeah the character I am building is suited to take the role of healer, as well as providing a little boom later (might be a little at first but not much). Also, I am working to make him be the face for the group, unless someone else wants that responsibility (if someone else wants it, I am willing to take a different skill but as a CHA based character it is something he could be okay at).

Now the bad news...

I really shouldn't start this game until later in the month. I am leaving on the 19th for the Bahamas and won't be back until the 28th. I would definitely be ready to start then easily.

And in related bad news.... I will be going on vacation around June 5th, and will have absolutely no online connection for a week.

Well, we can start around the 29th, if you want to get that week in, or after Grenfax gets back. That gives me a little time to work on some things.

Start on the 29th then, it will give the party a week or two get together and role play out some early days.

Male Logics Wizard 5/ Gamer 20+

Sounds goods to me.

Male Human (Chelaxian) Warpriest/7 - Hellknight/4

Hey guys, so far my idea for the martial supplement to the group is a half-orc barbarian/monk(martial artist). Don't expect any social skills as he's pretty much all combat.

Also, since we're all sharing "bad" news, I'll be in Thailand for about a week and a half starting June 16th. I doubt I'll be on the internet.

Two of my coworkers have been to Thailand in the past six months. Both loved it. Of course one was Thai so he was just going home. Have a safe and enjoyable trip
We are all going to have point where life takes us away for a couple days or week.
We will just continue our games around those life events. No big deal for any of us

Not a big deal, but it's funny that all your trips are so close. Hope you all enjoy them!

So; I am considering the following to go with the oracle and barbarian/monk

dwarven 'wizard'
dwarven bard (savage skald)
halfling sorcerer
halfling druid
human slayer
(tbd) rogue

Thoughts?

Male Human (Chelaxian) Warpriest/7 - Hellknight/4

How about an actual Skald class for the dwarf? Ragesong would work great with barbarian rage. Having all the knowledges at your fingertips would prove helpful as well.

Male Logics Wizard 5/ Gamer 20+

Be aware, the gnome oracle will not have access to a lot of knowledge skills, so we might want to see how we can stack those up.

My plan is to take knowledge (nature), but if someone else like the barbarian wants to take that one I can move on to planes or religion.

Also, while the gnome may be close to melee, he will try to avoid actually being involved in melee if possible. So, as a skald there is a good chance of backing up the melee.

That may leave the fourth slot open for a ranged or even more melee. Wouldn't be the first time I've played a caster in a group of melee characters.

Honestly; after reading into it, I have no interest in the Skald class. Although barbarians are great to have in a party, I have no interest in playing a rage machine; or a bardic wanna be.
If I go with anything martial, it would be the slayer, but even then, I am not looking to to be front line - hence, none of my proposed characters are heavily martially oriented.

Male Logics Wizard 5/ Gamer 20+

That's cool.

I guess my next question before recommending anything would be what kind of sorcerer? Ranged boom? Or more support styled?

I still think bard and sorcerer would be what i recommend. But it is more what you are most interested in.

Also I may make changes to the Oracle. Possibly going halfling and less boom. But it kind of depends on how the rest goes. Still mainly healer though.

Sorcerer would be a little boom, a little utility.

Every time I start leaning on way, I change my mind...

Dwarf bard is good for knowledge, backup healer (assuming we have a wand, he would be able to use it)

Slayer would be good martial (or ranged) and have trapfinding at level 2

a sorcerer or druid would add caster boom, and utility spells....

I am leaning towards dwarven bard...at the moment.

Male Logics Wizard 5/ Gamer 20+

A dwarven bard could be cool. Bards are always welcome in my mind.

Grand Lodge

I'mma luuuuurkin... And dotting. 'Sup guys?

Male Logics Wizard 5/ Gamer 20+

Glad to see you on here Upaynao. Welcome to the group?

Welcome Upaynao!

Have you all decided on your characters yet, or still working on it?

Liberty's Edge

Male Half-Orc Barbarian/1

I believe I'm going to go with my half-orc barbarian/monk concept for the meaty martial role. I'll work on adding the stats to his character profile over the next couple of days.

Male Logics Wizard 5/ Gamer 20+

I am holding off on my final decision until hearing Grenfax is going Sorcerer or Bard, but my decision are narrowed down significantly.

If Grenfax goes Sorcerer I will play a halfling oracle (Pei Xin) with the succor mystery. Healing is the primary aspect but will also focus on aiding in melee.

If Grenfax instead goes with Bard I will play the gnome oracle (Pei Xin) with the flame mystery. Healing is again the primary aspect but will also be able to toss some booms around. This build is more fully fleshed out, and for character reference I picture him as a gnome version of Egg Shen from Big Trouble In Little China.

Dark Archive

Male Dwarf Bard (Archivist)/1

I have been leaning toward dwarven bard - not an "optimized" build, but I think the character will be fun!

Sovereign Court

Male Gnome Oracle (Pei Zin Practitioner) 1

Gnome healer present!

Male Dwarf Bard (Archivist)/1

Nat looks over the rim of his glasses, and begins making notes in his journal. He takes a long drink of something in a tankard, and continues to write.

I've sent out introductions to Nat, Grog, and Ngonunho. Is Upaynao still interested?

Nat is gone next week, and Grog is gone on the 16th. Let's plan to start on the 12th, if that works? We can get a few days in before Grog leaves. That also give Upaynao time to work on the character, if still interested.

In the meantime, you can start with the introductions I sent out.

Grand Lodge

Good thing I decided to check on in. Yes, I'm still interested! I'm not sure what the party neds at this point. But count me in!

Liberty's Edge

Male Half-Orc Barbarian/1

Alright. Thaak's profile is finally updated (PFS legal build). Planning on playing the martial front-liner. No skills. No magic. All beefcake.

Sovereign Court

Male Gnome Oracle (Pei Zin Practitioner) 1

Ngonunho Adrelsandmar Kaeranta, accomplished healer and crafter of various herbal remedies. If you suffer from it, I should be able to help cure it. Or hopefully prevent it!

Male gnome Flame Mystery Oracle with the Pei Zin Practitioner archetype (lay on hands like ability and mercy like ability later). Good healer and some boom. A little unfocused in personality but believes in good over evil.

As for what is needed maybe something skilled and/or ranged. We have most of the social/knowledges covered but could use some stealth and trapfinding I think.

Grand Lodge

So you need a master of the arcane? I'll flesh something out ASAP.

I haven't been able to access the site since Friday. I'll post the beginning tomorrow (assuming I can get on) and we can have a few days before Grog leaves.

Just a heads up...Grog should be back Monday. I'm on vacation next week, but I'll be "around" so I should be updating at least once a day.

Dark Archive

Male Dwarf Bard (Archivist)/1

Soooooo.... who else finds it suspicious that the 93% human town is sending a dwarf; an elf, a half-orc; and gnome on a quest.

Nope, not suspicious at all, nothing to see here. Move along, move along.

I was on vacation last week and thought I'd have more time to post, but obviously, didn't Sorry about that. I'm back now and ready to go! I just created a link to the Roll 20 Map. I'll add some generic tokens for you as well.

Dark Archive

Male Dwarf Bard (Archivist)/1

Are you going to do languages based on real world languages ie Varisian=Romainian? If so, what is Orc equal to? Nat speaks Orc.

Yes for actual languages like Varisian. Orcish would be more guttural and snarling, I don't want to equate it with an actual real-world language. Feel free to make something up phonetically or just a "makes guttural sounds" and then a translation.

If I could make a suggestion? Using Google Drawings or Google Slides might be easier that trying to feed you enough information to move our icons on the map.
