Lilly grabs a hold of the yellow duergar's waraxe, knocking it out of his hands. "Blasted fox... Well, that does it!" He withdraws from Yizzik, triggering a lever next to a table in the back of the room. A false wall opens up to reveal a tunnel, and he scurries down the tunnel as quickly as he can.
This just leaves the invisible leader. Combat isn't over since there's no way for you to know whether he's there or not, so we'll stay in initiative.
Vingold and Poe are up
Lilly Hennett |
Wouldn't he be squeezing, since he's large and the tunnel looks 5ft wide. Maybe we can catch up?
"Good boy."
Poe Quickhammer |
Poe moves further into the room, trying to get a look at the retreating Duergar, but still wary of the invisible one.
Yizzik Uhari |
With golden eyes scanning for the invisible duergar, he hoped the large size of his enemy would give some telling sign of him even while cloaked by its innate magic. Yizzik though possessed no means of seeing an invisible creature.
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23
Lilly Hennett |
Vingold tries to lure the duergar out of hiding.
Bluff to provoke anger?: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (19) + 16 = 35
"Your mother is so ugly, even a gibbering mouther would turn away in terror!"
Insults worked for my bard in S&S, though he took one for the team by doing so. :)
GM Red |
A scowl is heard as Vingold curses at the duergar leader. "WHO YA CALLIN' UGLY?! A dwarf like yerself shud know better than anyone yer the reason we look like this, and why we're trapped in this blasted place... Or even underground at all! Now DIE!"
Warhammer: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 182d6 + 5 ⇒ (1, 3) + 5 = 9
Warhammer: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 112d6 + 5 ⇒ (3, 1) + 5 = 9
Heavy shield bash: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 181d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
The duergar leader's invisibility immediately fades as his hammer and shield connect with Vingold, bloodying the dwarf's face and arm. -15
Hinata, Yizzik (can change his action from perception since the leader is now visible), and Lilly are up
Yizzik Uhari |
"Leave him alone!" the reptile would bellow in his native tongue, charging the newly appeared duergar. He saw red as an ally took a hit he could prevent with his shield and ran in quickly, aiming his axe for the first reachable vulnerable spot.
Charge: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (16) + 12 = 281d8 + 12 ⇒ (8) + 12 = 20
Hinata Kyomi |
As soon as the leader made himself known again Hinata would send a stone flying towards him.
To Hit: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19
Damage: 1d4 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 + 1 = 4
GM Red |
You'll need to travel 10 feet to charge, Yizzik, but with that roll, it doesn't matter much.
Yizzik slashes the duergar leader's body in blind rage, his axe carving a deep wound across the leader's chest and moments later, Hinata's bullet-like stone lands directly in the wound. The leader is overcome with pain as he bleeds out, and as he falls to his knees, he's able to softly speak, "F-fools... Ya ain't gonna get outta here alive..." before succumbing to his injuries.
The duergar leader is down, and Lilly is up if she wants to chase after Yellow
Lilly Hennett |
She probably will.
Swift action: wrist sheath to produce wand of shield.
Standard to use.
4 minutes of shield.
Lilly jumps over the ankles of the fallen duergar leader, and goes after the yellow guy.
"Yoohoo! The others are dead, won't you come back and play?"
GM Red |
The panicked duergar looks back at the taunting fox/human in disguise and continues to flee, moving his legs as quickly as he can. The dark tunnel fades to black past the point he escapes. Lilly's special vision can still make out his outline in the distance.
He's off the map, about 10 feet past the end square. Chase after him, or stay in the fort? The choice is yours. I do feel inclined to warn you that many of those haunts are chained in nature, and may or may not have a reset time...
Poe Quickhammer |
Poe only needs a clear line of sight to handle the fleeing duergar.
attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21
damage: 1d10 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18

Yizzik Uhari |
For now, Yizzik would take a breath and walk towards his companions, watching them chase down the final enemy. Feeling the stress of combat, his more primal and reptilian side coming out from the haunting and battles, rather than chase he decided to calm himself some. Putting away his shield and axe, he watched as they brought down the duergar, pulling out his violin before beginning to play. He could feel the soothing presence of his god in that moment.
I'll take a 10 since I'm in no rush and not trying to earn money so I'll have a 20
Hinata Kyomi |
Hinata keeps a rock in her hand in case anything else shows up but seems to drop her guard at least somewhat as she goes to regather her stones.
"I'm running low on bomb supplies but I should be alright for now if we are going to keep going." She warned.
GM Red |
As Yizzik plays a soothing tune on his violin, you may take the opportunity to search the room.
In the pocket of the duergar leader, you find a letter detailing instructions, and signed with the name Zohir Totek.
After reading the scripts you found in the theatre's backroom, you recognize the name Zohir Totek as the apprentice to the fey necromancer Karexin, whom Delbera Axebringer and her adventuring band made their name defeating.
masterwork breastplate
masterwork heavy steel shield
+1 warhammer
cloak of resistance +1
a key ring
two heavy brass rings
138 gp
an ornate longsword carved from onyx
masterwork full plate
adamantine spiked chain
Underneath the bar, you also find a locked chest.
Poe Quickhammer |
"Aha! Now this is loot!" Poe exclaims with gusto. "Now I wonder what's so important that they'd come aftah us like they did?" Poe mutters as he reads the letter.
Yizzik Uhari |
Yizzik would watch the other collect their items and loot from their enemies. He trusted to get his fair share at some point so for now finished his song. Upon reaching the end, he'd put away his interment carefully, moving towards Poe to see if the lockbox held anything of interest.
Hinata Kyomi |
Hinata would fumble with the lock for a while before finally getting frustrated and trying to smack the lock open but that would injury her more than the lock, in a huff she'd abandon the lockbox hoping one of the others had better luck.
might be able to take it with us depending on size
Vingold Spiritheart |
Vingold grunts and shuffles forward, pulling out a lock-picking kit. "Gonna take me a minute. Get comfortable."
Taking 20 gets me a 32 on disable device.
Poe Quickhammer |
Poe sits down with a huff and breaks out his pipe. He leans back and reloads Olivia. Then, glancing her over, gives her a good polish while he smokes.
Poe Quickhammer |
"We should finish with the redoubt before we go down that passage." Poe says once everything has been bagged. "No doubt that will take us far away from our objective. 'less they be holdin' our missing residents."
Yizzik Uhari |
"I'm prepared to follow, my friends," Yizzik offered giving a wide, fanged mouth grin as he re-drew his axe and shield. He was ready to go and defend his allies from whatever other horrors awaited either in the redoubt or down the path.
Hinata Kyomi |
"With no risk of him warning anyone else we have time to make sure they aren't being held here but we should move the bodies in case someone comes looking for them while we're gone."
GM Red |
So move the bodies first, then?
Loot tracker up-to-date. Let me know if you're going to put on any of gear you found.
You head back outside the room, into the main hallway, and turn to the right.
A heavy partition divides this room into two sections. Shattered glass and looted armor and weapon racks litter the north end of the room, where a massive display case stands open and empty. A half-dozen animal trophies fill the southern half of the room, including the mounted head of a bulette looms from the eastern wall, a stuffed cloaker hangs from the ceiling in mid-swoop, and a stuffed dire boar prepares to charge from his central plinth.
Poe: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13
Vingold: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
Lilly: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
Yizzik: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15
Hinata: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21
Hinata: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
Yizzik: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
Vingold: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19
Poe: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22
Lilly: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
As you enter, you feel the ground begin to rumble, small cracks forming along the tiles. Another ghostly image begins to manifest in the room. Below the image, the ghastly head of a bulette begins rising up out of the floor. The image's face flickers in and out of existence, looking terrified as the mouth of the bulette becomes more and more apparent.

Poe Quickhammer |
"What in the blazes!" Poe shouts, his mouth hanging open.
Not knowing what to do, he goes to his old fallback: shooting it.
Olivia Says: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22 +1 if within 30 feet
Bolt damage: 1d10 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18
GM Red |
You have chosen... Wisely.
Poe targets the bullete and unleashes a shot from his crossbow, saving the ghostly Delbera from her fate. The phantom dwarven woman smiles for a moment before fading.
Another chant of dwarven voices is heard as the ghost fades, "We who are born with blade in hand."
Haunt dispatched!
Poe Quickhammer |
"... Ah still don' know what happen'd, but ah think I did it?" Poe stammers, trying to get saliva back in his mouth. "Still..."
He shakes his head. "Delbera had an excitin' life, eh?"

Yizzik Uhari |
Giving a sigh at what looked to be happening, the reptile gave the dwarves crossbowman a nod and the thumbs up. He had done well and likely saved Yizzik from looking like a fool again from all these hauntings.
Hinata Kyomi |
Hinata would like to move the bodies before we go yea
In a panic Hinata desperately reaches for her bombs but by the time she'd drawn them Poe's bolt had already ended the event leaving her looking around slightly confused. "Well that was surprisingly easy, be careful it might not be over." She warns as she creeps forward bomb still in hand.
Lilly Hennett |
Like Hinata, Lilly saw everything happen so fast, that it was over before it properly started.
"That went quickly...sw~~~eet."
She helps moving the bodies.
"This one is weighing excessively....has he been eating boulders?"
GM Red |
A quick look around the trophy room turns up another stash of useful items.
+1 spear
+1 light steel shield depicting a Taldan wedding
mithral shirt
slightly vandalized suit of masterwork half-plate
masterwork longspear
masterwork composite longbow (Str +4)
a bejeweled longspear sized for a pixie
After moving the bodies into the tunnel, you head for the final room (other than the Danger, Do not enter room) on the lower floor.
An anvil-shaped altar stands prominently at the northeastern end of this chapel. A cold furnace is cut into wall behind the anvil, while tools of the forge lie carefully arranged about the worship space. A blacksmith's apron lies across the anvil.
Lilly: 1d20 ⇒ 11
Hinata: 1d20 ⇒ 20
Yizzik: 1d20 ⇒ 18
Poe: 1d20 ⇒ 7
Vingold: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
Entering the room, the forge behind the altar flares to life, and the image of a dwarven girl - barely beyond puberty - appears beside the flames. Hinata and Yizzik feel the swelling of evangelical devotion, and the girl begins to sing hymns to Torag, the Father of Creation as she prepares to use the forge.
The ghost doesn't appear to be malicious as she sings. She is waving her hands in a beckoning motion, inviting others to join her whether in voice or instrument.
Given the focus on metal, you get the feeling the haunt is likely susceptible to electricity.

Haunt
We're almost done with the spooky ghosts, I promise. :)
Yizzik Uhari |
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18
Yizzik watched as the girl appeared, at first reaching for his axe. However, she seemed less aggressive than the rest and even the lizardfolk was able to catch on what she needed to be put to rest. Following her lead, he would again put away what he had to draw his instrument once more, playing along with her hymn to join in her worship of a deity he could respect much like his own.
Perform: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20
neat, I get to use my gimmick xD
Hinata Kyomi |
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
Seeing Yizzik try to appease the ghost Hinata would do her best to join in, however she wasn't nearly as skilled a singer as Yizzik leaving her tune slightly off.
Perform, Aid Another: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
GM Red |
Although Hinata's pitch is way off mark, Yizzik's epic performance relaxes the ghost, who begins giggling as the lizardman plays his violin in sync with her hymn. The ghost hammers the weapon at the forge once before she fades and all is bright again.
Another Dwarven chant is heard when the ghost fades, swearing, "By sweat and blood, we have come here."
Poe Quickhammer |
"So ah see its not jus' me that's fulla surprises. Great tune, Yizzik." Poe admits, grinning.

GM Red |
With the entire lower floor of the Redoubt investigated, put to rest, and looted, you head up the stairs.
Stout dwarven pillars support this open stairway. A balcony overlooks the floor below. Three doors stand to the north, east, and south.
On the ground is a dead dwarf in a town guard uniform.
Next to it.. three duergar mercenaries notice Yizzik as he leads the group up the stairs. One of them chugs down a bottle of glowing liquid as the group walks up, and other two grow to twice their size.
"A lizard? The hell's a lizard doing in HERE?"
Hinata: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
Yizzik: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21
Vingold: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15
Poe: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17
Lilly: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
Duergar green: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (5) - 1 = 4
Duergar red: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (2) - 1 = 1
Duergar blue: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
So I've got Lilly and Hinata on the middle of the stairs leading up, Vingold and Poe nearly at the top, and Yizzik at the top. Everyone acts before the enemies, so everyone can post and I'll resolve in order of initiative.
Stairway Landing, Round 1
Everyone is up
