While on fire and severely injured by the twin blasts Rowan did the only intelligent thing there was to do. She pulled back heading the closed door and stepping out into the open area once more. She didn't have Julian's resistances and she knew another barrage would put her on her backside...

Yep, f*## this noise, I'm fleeing next round. If we don't die first, that is.

*Shakes fist at the dice* D< I blame you for this! Don't stack crits on my players until they have a few more levels!

Julian's able to douse the flames on his body, though Rowan hadn't yet gotten started. Tarov, on the other hand, actually did manage to put out the flames igniting him*. No more bombs were forthcoming, though, and the figure behind the wall of black energy growled slightly.

"Feh. Cowards! All brave and noble warriors until you find someone who can actually hurt you!" With that, he stepped forward and physically hit the barrier of negative energy. As he did so, the entire barrier shrunk down and wrapped around his fist, sheathing it in power as the two remaining clerics stepped backwards, clearly nervous about getting close to him.

"Come on, blood traitor. Unless you're afraid of a brawl?"

Julian charged forward as Tarov and Rowan focused on recovering, taking the brunt of the enemy's attention. Einherjar swung neatly through the air, carving into the man's flesh and digging deeply into him, though it might take a few more rounds to bring him down. The alchemist - for that's what he was - immediately retaliated with a right hook aimed at Julian's jaw.

Melee: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6

It seemed like his luck had been entirely used up by his earlier bomb tosses, because things had just gotten much worse for him. The energy around his hand was impressive as heck, but if he couldn't use it right, it didn't mean a thing. ...A good lesson to remember.

This sudden streak of luck was lost on the angry mutant as he unleashed his full barrage of attacks on the Alchmist again. He flung blood from his horns as he brought Einherjar to bear once more. never stopped as he brought it down to slash across the alchemists shoulder, followed by swiftly snapping his jaws at the mans face and clawing at his belly with his free hand. Neither bite nor claws landed on the alchemist, but Einherjar managed to cut further into his flesh, and he hissed in vexation. He stepped back a moment later, pulling a vial off of his belt and downing the contents. "Feh... time to finish this!" he growled.

Rowan stands up...

MA: Stand from prone
SA: Cast Askew Balance DC 14 Fort save @ Alchemist

Her injuries forced her to rethink her strategy, her previous words of justice were lost as she focused on aiding from afar.

The alchemist's fist moved towards Julian, still crackling with energy and whatever effect was being used here. Julian managed to duck to the side a moment later, though, grabbing the man's arm with his teeth and slamming him into the ground. Einherjar stabbed into his stomach a moment later, even as Tarov speared him through the lungs. The energy around his hand dissipated as the life left his body... and the two other cultists threw down their weapons a moment later, clearly having lost the will to continue fighting.

You'll need to figure out what to do with them - and with this room, given the desecration to what had once been the main temple of Iomedae within the building. Cleaning it by hand would take at least half an hour, though magic - such as certain popular cantrips - would cut that time in half.

You've also obtained two potions of cure light wounds, one of cure moderate wounds, one suit of +1 leather armor, a ring of protection +1, two silver holy symbols of Iomedae, one of Shelyn, one of Desna, and finally a portable alchemy kit.

Tarov slumps as the alchemist crumbles to the ground, before heading over to bind the two remaining cultists. "On yer knees, hands behind yer heads. I a'ready killed a score o' yer kind, I'd rather not spell more blood than is necessary," he tells them, a cold edge to his voice. He draws some rope from his satchel and uses it to attempt to tie the cultists up. "Come help me, lass. Julian, get th' bodies out o' here."

He shakes his head, before slashing the air with Einherjar prior to setting the black blade across his back once more. "Yes Tarov... ." Julian's outburst caught her by surprise but she was too worn out to care much as he swiftly regained control. It was a worrying thought to think he could turn on his own companions. That aside she assisted with removing the bodies from the room and eventually aided in the cleaning as well. She was also watchful in the hopes of finding something of use...

Once cleaning was completed

She swallowed down a few potions to heal herself...

With the aid of magic, the room was eventually put back in order, and was starting to look like a proper shrine once more. It needed some real work done to be truly restored - more than you could do now - but together the three of you were able to take the time to set things right.

Time taken: 15 minutes. Julian, double-check the duration of your mutagen and see how much time you've got left.

Rowan only:
As you look around the chamber once the cleaning is done, one section of the wall suddenly begins to glow with the image of a longsword, and the recent words you saw in Celestial echo through your mind. Neither Julian nor Tarov react to the light - it doesn't seem like it's something they can see.

40 mins worth of mutagen time total. we searched the entire lower floor and cleaned two rooms so I would say less than/around five minutes to be fair as we only had Two encounters and the searching went fairly smooth. I mean its hard to determine minutes in Pbp. So ultimately your call chief, your the DM so time is in your hands :3

Julian's form shifts internally and he staggers. "Becoming unstable... Time is short... Before I revert..." His voice was a mixture of clear and gutteral as evidence of this shifting in his mutagenic form...

Rowan pays the glowing wall little mind as they finish the cleaning, she nods at Julian's comment but once the cleaning was done she addressed him more seriously. "Please remove those two from the room, I need to pray in the hopes it will sanctify this place."

Once he had complied she shuts the door some before tapping Tarov on the shoulder and bringing him with her. In Celestial "I have been given a sign, but I am not sure what lies beyond this portal." She gestures to the wall before saying. "Let us inherit thine arms, Iomedae."

Don't let me regret sending the mutant out of the room... XD

As Rowan speaks, a section of stone in the southwestern part of the room swings open, revealing a hidden room.

This small chamber is free of dust. A holy symbol of lomedae hangs unmolested on the wall above a weapon rack filled with swords, crossbows, and spears. Three wooden dummies wear pristine suits of armor. A shelf holds several leather quivers, each stamped with a golden sun. Two silver shields hang from pegs on the wall.

The weapon rack contains three cold iron longswords, two cold iron shortswords, two heavy crossbows, a composite longbow (+2 Str), a masterwork cold iron heavy mace, two cold iron longspears, 50 cold iron crossbow bolts, 100 cold iron arrows, a +1 longsword, 5 +1 holy arrows, and an arrow of evil outsider slaying.

The armor dummies hold two sets of masterwork chainmail and a +1 breastplate emblazoned with Iomedae's holy symbol. All of the armor fits perfectly the first time it's put on, like it was quite literally made for you.

The two heavy steel shields are both marked with the holy symbol of Iomedae. One is a masterwork shield, and the other is a +1 blinding shield.

Julian nods, dragging the pair of cultists out of the room.

@Rednal If you think 40 mins have transpired thats fine too. Its all part of the game so fire away! ;D

Once they were at the foot of the stairs he accosted them, growling low as he towered over them. "What was the creature in the room over there? Blue skinned elfin like creature. Tell me..." He brought his claws to bear like a creature out of a nightmare as he dripped saliva down on the pair of unlucky cultists. "Before you call for help, you should know... We cleared your companions out of the floor above. They burned like charcoal... So answer the question. What was it?!"

The two cultists looked at each other, blinking a few times. "That? That's just a Caterwaul... they're not that uncommon." one of them said, sounding surprised that you didn't recognize it. "I think one of the commanders was keeping it as a pet or something."

Even as the cultist answered, Julian's mutagen flickered and died, reverting him back to normal.

"I like to think I know a losing battle when I see one. We lost the moment his hit failed to connect, and I saw no reason to force a bloody end for myself." It may have been worth noting that not every cultist of evil was a raving, fanatical madman. Indeed, most were in it merely for personal gain, or because it was how they'd been raised.

He makes sure he's within distance to protect Fey, should the dwarf's assistance be needed.

Rowan bows her head in thanks, at that moment she knew yet again that the goddess was aiding them in obtaining victory for Kenebras. "We will see these holy arms are brought to our brothers and sisters in arms. Thank you Iomedae for your divine aid."

She enters the room after that prayer and starts to look over the gear. She takes the Chainmail and replaces it with her chainshirt. She exchanged the wooden shield for the magical steel shield. "Tarov, come and arm yourself, plenty of demon fighting equipment." She places her crossbow and the magical mace on the rack in exchange for a cold iron longsword and the composite bow, she exchanged her bolts for arrows, taking the holy arrows and the outsider slaying arrow for the battle to come. Finally she set her masterwork Longsword on the rack. She needed only one blade but cold iron was far more useful.

After nearly ten minutes of equipping she looked every inch the paladin she should, her shield and armor emblazoned by her goddess. Her new shield shined with the inheritor sword and everything fit her like a glove. She carried a longsword and an array of weapons meant for demon slaying and in the name of Iomedae she would do just that.

"Well you two are more intelligent then your fellows. But why would you join such a cause in the first place? Gaining power I can understand in a way but power could be gained within a more worthwhile employment or does damnation not concern you?"

"Who else is in command of this garrison?"

"When we die, we'll become demons and join the armies of the Abyss. That's exactly what I want... and you didn't think that only self-righteous judgmental freaks like Lord Hulrun got what they wanted from the afterlife, did you? One day the Abyss will conquer everything - I just want to be on the winning side. As for our leader, Jeslyn's not here... which is lucky for you, or you'd be long dead by now."

@Rowan:
As you swap gear - placing new items on the racks in exchange for those you're taking - you feel a strong sense of approval radiating from the holy symbols you bear. Too many would simply take things without thought to give back, perhaps justifying it on the basis of what the situation needs... but those who remember to give, even when giving is hard, do not go unnoticed.

Tarov calls back to Rowan, "After Julian's finished interogatin' these bugs." The knight folds up the dirtied rag he'd used to clean his weapon and stores it in his satchel, before moving near Julian and the cultists. "Yeah, yeah, heard 'at a hundred times from yer lot a'ready. An' jus' a friendly tip, th' more yer kind tells us we'll get killed, th' more likely it is we'll throw th' spanner in yer plans. Ya run on cowardice and greed, an' it'll only last for so long," he says while chuckling. Tarov shifts his weapon to his other shoulder, and the wry smile on his face is clearly not one of mirth, but of pity.

Julian's face becomes grim as he nods at the same stupidty he has heard before. "The winning side, says the men on the floor. The abyss can't overrun Golarion let alone everything but Tarov is right, it's the same drivel we've heard before and If this Jeslyn was here we would defeat her too. Lucky for her." He was dead serious too, not a shred of doubt in his voice.

"I really don't care what they get in judgement. Lord Hulrun or you. We get what we deserve and nothing more, the only thing that concerns me is the journey along the way as we only live once in our current incarnation."

Feeling no need to sing to an empty choir he added. "So answer me this and I'll grant you your wish. How do you open the door up stairs?"

The cultist shrugged. "Use the doorknob, like everyone else? Othirubo put a magic lock on it, but you just killed him, so it's probably gone..."

She felt happy in the warmth she recieved and saddened that she would have to return and take more of the weapons therein to aid the wareffort. She could only hope she would be forgiven, if not she would ask for it when the city was once again secure.

She had been walking towards the door when she heard the last part of the conversation. "Fair enough..." She stepped out of the room clad in shining chainmail and bearing the mighty emblazon of the Inheritor. "Under wartime laws you are recognized as unrepentant. Willfully aiding dark forces, defacement of holy areas and attempted murder for your own gain. You admit your want for damnation openly and may Pharsma judge you fairly. I hearby judge you guilty, your punishment is immediate execution with the use of merciful means."

She draws the Longsword and stands behind each of the Cultists as she has done with each band before. Exceot this time they were awake to hear their crimes laid before them and to be judged fairly. For what Julian said was true, she would face her judgement at the end of her road and she knew that she would be judged harshly. She uses her ability to see into each of their souls, to see the evil in them prior to the falling of her blade. In fact the seconds that it takes her to determine it granted them time to search there souls and perhaps ask forgiveness.

Further words of damnation only lead to her immediately performing the act of finishing them. She had no time for their evil and the city could suffer their ill will no longer.

"Thanks, I'll see you in..." He was interrupted by the timely arrival of the Paladin, looking a lot better and clad in beautiful armor. He was impressed with her handling of the situation and left her to administer the punishment as he headed back into the room and to the secret alcove she had found.

He felt awkward walking into an Iomedean armory but the weapons therein were too great to ignore. He turned over his old scimitar in exchange for a cold iron longsword and his sickle for the +1 longsword. Both of which he planned on giving to the companions they left behind in Defenders Heart.

He couldn't part with his mothers Starknife, so he placed the masterwork chainshirt in their for someone else to find before awkwardly picked up the cold iron bolts. He couldn't use them but he was sure others could. "Desna gives me a grand adventure indeed. I pray I survive to its end..."

As he steps out of the armory he sees the door they overlooked and approached it cautiously. "Well looks like we missed one room. Tarov, watch my back will you please." Nodding to Tarov he moved to open the last door in the room...

XD!! Crosses fingers that there isn't a bomb! Edit 1 Also shows I have been using your maps everyday! :D

I believe this is where the other players say to stop giving the GM ideas. =D

A long table and six chairs have been pushed against the western wall. On the opposite wall, a tapestry depicting a map of Mendev hangs from a silver rod-the tapestry has been slashed several times and splashed with filth. A bedroll sits on the floor, and on the nearby table is an array of alchemical devices and a long wooden sword case wrapped with cords, as if ready for travel.

Tarov carefully guards Julian as the Tiefling inspects the room.

Julian gives a low whistle as he steps into the room twirling his tail casually. He gives the slashed up map of Mendev a asad look before pulling it down and rolling it up for later. If anything the silver rod could be melted down for alchemical ingredients.

The alchemy goods seem to be a masterwork alchemy lab, good for making all sorts of concoctions. The sword case is significantly more interesting, mostly for what it contains - a sword glowing with power and a note tucked inside. Well, that explains how it got here, at least...

Definitely snagging the masterwork lab! Once this is done... :3

Julian smirks. "So much for being on the winning side..." He draws the sword out of the case and gives a low whistle. "Now... What do you do eh?"

Hoping Rowan was done administering her swift justice to the two cultists he stepped out with the glowing blade. "Got something for you. Apparently they were sending it to Drezen to some Lord Staunton." He shows the others the note as he hands the blade over to Rowan. "All yours, not my style." He smirks as he pats his blackbladed scimitar.

@Rowan:
One glance is all it takes to identify the blade as formerly belonging to your friend Irabeth, passed down to her by her father - you've seen her kill more than a few demons with that blade, and indeed, it was specifically created as their bane.

Tarov breathes a sigh of relief when the room is empty of threats. "A'right, we still need t' take care o' the th' wardstone fragment, then we can come back here an' grab all th' stuff we can carry. I figure we'll need it for th' folks back at th' Defender's Heart."

She had just cleaned the blood off her blade and regards Julian curiously as he presents the shining blade to her. She nodded to Tarov as she said to Julian "This blade is Irabeth's... A family heirloom, she... Would never part with it. Why is it here..." She took the note from Julian as she grabbed the note from him.

She read over the note swiftly and was even more confused almost downright upset Irabeth would sell it. It took her a moment to get her emotions under control and she slashed the air with the blade. I will speak to her when I see her. She will want this back. The corruption in the nobility was vexing but not surprising in the slightest.

"Lets finish this, we will reclaim this place." She leads the way back upstairs, shining shield before her and Irabeth's blade in hand...

The passage upstairs is safe, and you are unmolested as you traverse the path. As you reach the upper hallway, it's easy to see that the magical sigil barring your way is now gone, allowing you access to the only chamber you haven't yet visited.

Edit Rednal is a ninja...

Seeing Julian moving towards the Basin she waves the Tiefling off and points towards the stairs in a Watch my back. She wasn't about to waste his enormous fighting talent nor Tarov's and instead busied herself with clear the basin.
