"Well, for one thing, you have a lot of pointy weapons." the devil observed, glancing at Farod. "I mean, maybe if I was a Barbed or something, I'd be more aggressive... but I like to think I'm smart enough to not fight an obviously losing battle. Anyway, following you isn't actually that hard for anyone who can take the heat of this place. As for why the Ragesians would come here... maybe you haven't noticed, but they've got the whole 'marching army conquering everything in sight' thing going for them. Their goal is to get everywhere, but the one who summoned me is kind of a jerk to begin with. He doesn't want you to get out of this fire forest, see... but if there's no more fire forest, well, you can't exactly get out of it, now can you? Not gonna lie, he probably should've seen this one coming, but it's funnier this way. I know you think we're all a bunch of natural liars - which is really sad and the result of a not-so-small smear campaign, since we don't go back on our word - but in all seriousness, I'm here to screw over my summoner. Don't take this the wrong way, but you're basically just incidental to me, and I get what I want easier if I help you. Now, demons would just betray you flat-out, the smarmy little abyss-maggots. We devils hold ourselves to a higher standard, though. ...Admittedly, that's not saying much considering what demons are like, but still. Sorry, that's all I can get out of that metaphor."

Male (Ye may check, I dinnae mind) Dwarf Barbarian / Warpriest-Wizard Gestalt 5| HP: 70/70 | AC: 19 / T: 11 / FF: 16 |(+2 vs magic and poison) Fort: +7, Ref: +5, Will: +9(11) | CMB: +9, CMD: 20 | Init: +1, Perception: +10 | DR 2/- | Fire Resistance 1

"Dinnae think ye lie," Umbriak said with a snort. "Nae need to. You speak it yourself - loopsholes, half truths, the right wording to make the wrong thing obvious. Nae need to lie. But I believe ye dinnae want to fight, and I can believe ye wish to be as free as your kind gets." The Dwarf looked at him evenly. "But I dinnae think you mean us any kindness, and I do think ye plan could have pitfals in it for us. So ye plan to remove the fire from yon forest. How?" It might be a useful bit of information to have, something that would help them even if the devil wasn't to be helpful.

Sense Motive: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9

Halfling URogue 3 / Oracle 3 | HP: 33/33 | AC: 19 / T: 14 / FF: 16 | Fort: +5, Ref: +8, Will: +7/+9 | M. Touch: +5, R. Touch: +5 | CMB: +4, CMD: 13 | Init: +5, Perception: +10 |

"Marching?" Ridley mused. "And we should be a few days' ride ahead of any army intent on marching, especially considering the time it must take to get that army through the city."

"You saying you think it'll be earlier to extinguish the whole forest than murder a couple of weary acolytes? Balance doesn't quite check out. You getting anything else out of this? Planning to kill the inquisitor who summoned you an want to trick us into helping without saying so upfront?"

HP: 10/10 | AC: 12 / T: 10 / FF: 10 | Fort: +2, Ref: +4, Will: +0 | CMB: 2, CMD: 14 | Init: +4, Perception: +5(+1 versus Traps) Low-light Vision

Farod kept his arrow pointed at the devil, albeit not at full pull.
While he was unwilling to contemplate working together with a devil, it would be stupid to refuse useful information based on who it came from. It would also be stupid to screw themselves over simply because not doing that would somehow advance this devils goals. Regardless, his allies had that covered, so he remained silent and vigilant - there was no guarantee he was alone, after all...
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
Perception to see if anybody is hidden nearby: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23

Farod didn't see anyone hiding nearby.

"Actually, yes, shutting it down is easier than trying to murder you. I mean, three-on-one odds with people who are a bit more than peasants? Stuuupid. The best way to shut things is to silence the wicked, twisted fey living in the village near the lake. It's their song keeping things as they are, see. Shut them up for even a few moments and poof! Fires burn out over a day or so. Shouldn't be much of a problem for you three either, given the violent psychosis they've all developed from the pain of the fire. Fey are weird like that. Put 'em in an environment they don't like, and yet it won't be long before they resemble it."

Male (Ye may check, I dinnae mind) Dwarf Barbarian / Warpriest-Wizard Gestalt 5| HP: 70/70 | AC: 19 / T: 11 / FF: 16 |(+2 vs magic and poison) Fort: +7, Ref: +5, Will: +9(11) | CMB: +9, CMD: 20 | Init: +1, Perception: +10 | DR 2/- | Fire Resistance 1

Umbriak considered this. So, first thing, do not slay the Fae. "So, ye dinnae think we should deal with the Indomitability thing? How would silencing these Fae help, when yon creature claims to be the cause of the flames? Does there song prison it here?"

Halfling URogue 3 / Oracle 3 | HP: 33/33 | AC: 19 / T: 14 / FF: 16 | Fort: +5, Ref: +8, Will: +7/+9 | M. Touch: +5, R. Touch: +5 | CMB: +4, CMD: 13 | Init: +5, Perception: +10 |

"Actually, yeah. You ever heard of a thing called 'Indominability?' We're planning to meet some of those Fey, sure, but pardon if I'm not quite ready to take your word that a bit of killing will solve all our problems without doing some investigation first."

HP: 10/10 | AC: 12 / T: 10 / FF: 10 | Fort: +2, Ref: +4, Will: +0 | CMB: 2, CMD: 14 | Init: +4, Perception: +5(+1 versus Traps) Low-light Vision

Farod manages to laugh...but it's not a honest, natural one: "Easy enough, then. If the fey are violent psychopaths attempting to murder us, defending ourselves may well solve your problem. Could it be that Ragesia WANTS the fire gone because it blocks their path? I know only a bit about the geography, but I believe a flaming forest is quite an obstacle for an army."

"I have to wonder why you jumped straight to assuming you should kill them." the devil said, sighing and shaking his head. "All I said was they should be silenced for a bit, and any method for that would work. Going right to murder says more about you than me, I think. Mind you, given how violent they are, other techniques might be harder... but I'm not your boss, and I care more about the ends than the means. If you wanna protect the crazy tree-humpers, that's for you to decide. But really, it's simple. Indomitability is trapped. You could go kill it, of course, and get your hands bloody. ...Well, bloodier. Or you can silence the song keeping it trapped, and maybe not end up killing anything. Or you can stay here and burn when those cute little potions run out, because that thing sure doesn't want to let you leave until you help it - nice fight by the bridge, by the way. As I see it, though, my way is actually more in line with what you'd prefer to do... although I'm not gonna object if you want to finish Indomitability off instead of freeing it. That'd also be funny. You'll have to do something if you want to get anywhere, though."

Halfling URogue 3 / Oracle 3 | HP: 33/33 | AC: 19 / T: 14 / FF: 16 | Fort: +5, Ref: +8, Will: +7/+9 | M. Touch: +5, R. Touch: +5 | CMB: +4, CMD: 13 | Init: +5, Perception: +10 |

"Well, pardon, but I assume devils usually kill things, and I've certainly seen Ragesians do it. If you mean literal silence, that's simple. Though what exactly is this Indominability? You seem to know something about its strength."

HP: 10/10 | AC: 12 / T: 10 / FF: 10 | Fort: +2, Ref: +4, Will: +0 | CMB: 2, CMD: 14 | Init: +4, Perception: +5(+1 versus Traps) Low-light Vision

Farod took note of the Devils silence regarding possible advantages for the Ragesian Army if the fire forest would instead be a regular burned down forest...So that's it?
As for the Fey, it would be simple to see what manner of creatures they would turn out to be...considering the group was on their way to meeting them.
Turning around the things said in his mind, Farod remained silent.

Male (Ye may check, I dinnae mind) Dwarf Barbarian / Warpriest-Wizard Gestalt 5| HP: 70/70 | AC: 19 / T: 11 / FF: 16 |(+2 vs magic and poison) Fort: +7, Ref: +5, Will: +9(11) | CMB: +9, CMD: 20 | Init: +1, Perception: +10 | DR 2/- | Fire Resistance 1

Umbriak snorted. "Aye, nae one has ever meant silenced to mean killed. And, aye, we tend to reduce those that attack us to much smaller bits. If we dinnae go attacking ye, however, you can be assured we dinnae intend to murder anything else in cold blood." Not that Umbriak would mind headbutting the thing to death.

"Will ye give us some details of either the fae or the creature?" It wouldn't be wise to trust it, but it should have enough truth to it to be useful.

"What do I look like, a botanist? Contrary to popular belief, we don't know everything... although we can usually find out if the price is right. Buuuuut I suspect you three would rather not make a bargain of that sort with me right now, and I'm not going to try and trick you into it. The fey are friggin' fey - weirdly obsessed with nature, don't like cold iron (not that any metal's really cold in this place), and probably going to go psycho on you at a moment's notice. I'd like them if they weren't so weird, but as it is, they remind me too much of demons. As for Indomitability... well, you're creatures of flesh, right? That thing is a creature of dreams. It's not really supposed to be here anyway, and if you get rid of the magic keeping here, it'll poof off."

Male (Ye may check, I dinnae mind) Dwarf Barbarian / Warpriest-Wizard Gestalt 5| HP: 70/70 | AC: 19 / T: 11 / FF: 16 |(+2 vs magic and poison) Fort: +7, Ref: +5, Will: +9(11) | CMB: +9, CMD: 20 | Init: +1, Perception: +10 | DR 2/- | Fire Resistance 1

The Dwarf looked at the Devil. "Then we shall visit these Fey, and mayhap learn of things. I say nothing of slaying nor violence, Devil, so dinnae get your hopes up. I thinie we should be speaking to those who jail the beast, and see why it is bound, before loosing it on the world. I dinnae think a world of flames would be to our tastes." He glanced at the others, to see if they were done with this thing.

Halfling URogue 3 / Oracle 3 | HP: 33/33 | AC: 19 / T: 14 / FF: 16 | Fort: +5, Ref: +8, Will: +7/+9 | M. Touch: +5, R. Touch: +5 | CMB: +4, CMD: 13 | Init: +5, Perception: +10 |

"Well, that's something. Sure, I don't feel like fighting, I guess. No chance you know where we can find some of this 'cold iron' though?"

HP: 10/10 | AC: 12 / T: 10 / FF: 10 | Fort: +2, Ref: +4, Will: +0 | CMB: 2, CMD: 14 | Init: +4, Perception: +5(+1 versus Traps) Low-light Vision

"I agree, Umbriak. Lets go talk to the Fey, hear their story, see if they exhibit the violent psychosis this fiend claims is an integral part of them.", Farod was done with the creature...admittedly, some information may have been useful, but that's how devils lured people into their contracts...by being useful, but not quite useful enough without a price paid.

At Ridley's question, the demon just raised a hand and rubbed two fingers together, as if feeling a coin.

Halfling URogue 3 / Oracle 3 | HP: 33/33 | AC: 19 / T: 14 / FF: 16 | Fort: +5, Ref: +8, Will: +7/+9 | M. Touch: +5, R. Touch: +5 | CMB: +4, CMD: 13 | Init: +5, Perception: +10 |

"Is that... are you offering to sell us a cold iron weapon?"

Male (Ye may check, I dinnae mind) Dwarf Barbarian / Warpriest-Wizard Gestalt 5| HP: 70/70 | AC: 19 / T: 11 / FF: 16 |(+2 vs magic and poison) Fort: +7, Ref: +5, Will: +9(11) | CMB: +9, CMD: 20 | Init: +1, Perception: +10 | DR 2/- | Fire Resistance 1

Umbriak shook his head. He'd have no part in devil-tainted steel.

If I had knowledge(planes), I'd ask him for a silver weapon :P He is a bearded, right?
Farod did not shake his head, but otherwise shared Umbriaks reaction.

"Kid, I'd sell almost anything for the right price." the devil noted. "I mean, there's limits, yes... but it's true, I know where to quickly get a couple of those to sell to you. Of course, you're welcome to try and face the fey without their bane if you really want to, but that's not a risk I'd take if I could avoid it myself."

HP: 10/10 | AC: 12 / T: 10 / FF: 10 | Fort: +2, Ref: +4, Will: +0 | CMB: 2, CMD: 14 | Init: +4, Perception: +5(+1 versus Traps) Low-light Vision

"Aye, you're around. If it comes to that, we'll whistle for you. Coming with weapons that are "their bane" to a first meeting would not be a very diplomatic thing to do, don't you agree?", Farod tried to cut off the negotiations.
He fully expected the Devil to disagree, weasel his way out of this with words, or simply ignore him, but then, he was mostly talking to Umbriak and Ridley, addressing the Devil was a means to that end.

Halfling URogue 3 / Oracle 3 | HP: 33/33 | AC: 19 / T: 14 / FF: 16 | Fort: +5, Ref: +8, Will: +7/+9 | M. Touch: +5, R. Touch: +5 | CMB: +4, CMD: 13 | Init: +5, Perception: +10 |

"Maybe I'll just dip my sword into the river until it gets cold," Ridley suggests. "Beg pardon, but I agree with the others—I'd rather not make more deals at the moment than we have to."

Male (Ye may check, I dinnae mind) Dwarf Barbarian / Warpriest-Wizard Gestalt 5| HP: 70/70 | AC: 19 / T: 11 / FF: 16 |(+2 vs magic and poison) Fort: +7, Ref: +5, Will: +9(11) | CMB: +9, CMD: 20 | Init: +1, Perception: +10 | DR 2/- | Fire Resistance 1

"In this we are in agreement. I'm sure ye will be around, if such things change." Umbriak moved away and towards the lake, keeping one eye on the creature and one hand clenched on his axe's haft.

The devil looked more amused than anything else at Ridley's suggestion. "As you wish." he said. With that, he bent down, picked up his weapon... and teleported away. There was a slight burst of flame around him as he did so - nothing significant or remotely dangerous to you, but not quite normal for teleportation, either.

Male (Ye may check, I dinnae mind) Dwarf Barbarian / Warpriest-Wizard Gestalt 5| HP: 70/70 | AC: 19 / T: 11 / FF: 16 |(+2 vs magic and poison) Fort: +7, Ref: +5, Will: +9(11) | CMB: +9, CMD: 20 | Init: +1, Perception: +10 | DR 2/- | Fire Resistance 1

Spitting in the direction of the devil and muttering under his breath, Umbriak continued heading for the lake...and kept his eyes open incase the Devil left a few traps along the way.

"Yep, that could have been more helpful," Ridley shrugged as he followed the others down the river.

EDIT: no, my character's not named Umbriak, whoops

"Helpful enough in my book, for a Devil. He wanted us to stop the Fey from singing. So there's one thing we definitely should ask the Fey about...what effect their song has and why they keep it up-", Farod suggests, lowering the bow, returning the arrow to the quiver. The devil was around, but he'd look just like a fool being paranoid about that.

Everyone's got the dwarf on their mind? XD

Wisps of song emerge from the ever-present roar of the forest fire as you continue heading downstream. Sung in a mournful minor key, but with a discordant trace of hope in the voice, the aural melody sounds like something from the swallowing depths of an endless dream. For a moment you think you see images of tragedy and history at the edge of your vision, but then your attention snaps back to the real world as you realize the song is real, and its singer close.

Male (Ye may check, I dinnae mind) Dwarf Barbarian / Warpriest-Wizard Gestalt 5| HP: 70/70 | AC: 19 / T: 11 / FF: 16 |(+2 vs magic and poison) Fort: +7, Ref: +5, Will: +9(11) | CMB: +9, CMD: 20 | Init: +1, Perception: +10 | DR 2/- | Fire Resistance 1

Everyone appreciate Fine Dwarf Lovin' (the link leads to Something Positive, and the page I got that phrase from. Mostly safe for work. Mostly)

Umbriak paused, as the song elicited memories. His family, fighting against trolls. The screams and shouts. The burning. The smell of burning hair and charred flesh singed his noise and the Dwarf coughed, shaking the images from his mind with a vicious shake of the head.

Well, hopefully the Fey was willing to answer questions rather than blindly attack. He approached, calling out, "We mean nae harm! We come seeking answers to the forest's plight."

Of course, if it did attack, he'd reduce it to mush cold iron or not.

The scenes at the edge of his vision blurred from one to another quickly, as in a dream. No doubt this effect was brought about by the weird music reverberating in the forest. Music that got louder as they closed in on the singer.

As a gesture of well-meaning intentions, Farod stored the bow on his back, continuing towards the singer unarmed.

Ridley decided that, if the Fey in this village were as crazy as the devil claimed, perhaps Umbriak was better equipped to talk to them.

HP: 10/10 | AC: 12 / T: 10 / FF: 10 | Fort: +2, Ref: +4, Will: +0 | CMB: 2, CMD: 14 | Init: +4, Perception: +5(+1 versus Traps) Low-light Vision

Please clarify: Are we at the Fey village already? The "singular" of singer and lack of flavor text regarding a settlement made me believe we came up to a single fey somewhere in the burning woods/near the stream? Going up to one potentially crazy Fey unarmed is one thing, walking right into their village uninvited a whole different one...

You are not at the village yet. o wo/ It will be made very clear if/when you get there.

As Umbriak called out, a figure stepped out from behind a nearby tree, looking a little surprised to see you. She was definitely fey, with leaves for her hair and somewhat tree-like skin. Several leafy wings sprouted from her back, but before she could say more than one word, six more fey appeared out of nowhere with their shortspears already stabbing - at you and the fey girl.

Attack vs FF (Farod): 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 5 + 2 = 27 for Damage: 1d6 + 2 + 1d6 ⇒ (1) + 2 + (1) = 4
Attack vs FF (Ridley): 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 5 + 2 = 15

Attack vs FF (Fey Girl): 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 5 + 2 = 13
Crit Confirm: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 5 + 2 = 11

Despite their well-timed ambush, however, only one of them actually managed to land a blow - and it was a pretty shallow one, at that. The good news? You were quick enough on the draw to retaliate now that you knew they were here.

You're 20 feet away from the fey girl. There is one enemy next to each of you, and three next to her (on her far side).

Male (Ye may check, I dinnae mind) Dwarf Barbarian / Warpriest-Wizard Gestalt 5| HP: 70/70 | AC: 19 / T: 11 / FF: 16 |(+2 vs magic and poison) Fort: +7, Ref: +5, Will: +9(11) | CMB: +9, CMD: 20 | Init: +1, Perception: +10 | DR 2/- | Fire Resistance 1

Umbriak took in the situation. The girl seemed peacefully. The other six seemed less peaceful. Perhaps there was some kind of disagreement between the Fey. What Umbriak was able to determine was that this one was trying to kill him, and he wasn't overly fond of that. That they were attacking the girl seemed to make her an ally, and therefore worth helping.

"This is why people think ye Fey are capricious, ye ken?" Umbriak muttered as he attempted to apply an axe to the Fey attacking him in the face.

Surprised, Farod steps back from his assailant, and retrieves his bow again, shouting: "Stand down. What is this madness?"
Infusing his bow with eldritch power while fetching one of the blunt arrows from his quiver, he takes aim at the one who stabbed at the Fey Girl.

"Try not to kill them, maybe this is a misunderstanding!", he shouts at Umbriak when he sees the Dwarfs axe strike one of the attackers.

Ridley babbled incoherently, and moved to try and assist the fey "victim." (Move to flank with her, then full defense action to AC 23)

Umbriak's axe solidly connected with his attacker - and slammed them straight into the dirt, unconscious and bleeding out. With a shriek, the fey woman darted forward to cover his body before a followup strike could be made, even as Farod struck (but did not down) his own target. The other fey stabbed out with their spears again, those who'd been by the woman turning to the (closer) Farod. The one he'd stepped away from followed - they seemed rather worried about approaching Umbriak.

Farod, quite capable of using a ranged weapon at close range without leaving himself open, weaves through the stabs and fires off two more blunt arrows as he does so, both solid shots aimed with an intent to knock assailants out: "Dúirt mé leat chun seasamh síos! Cén fáth a bhfuil tú ag ionsaí dúinn?"

Sylvan:
"I told you to stand down! Why do you attack us?"

Trying to knock out the one I hit first, if he goes down, the second arrow goes to the one who hit me before.

Umbriak paused, head tilted slightly. The burly Dwarf grounded his axe with a resounding thud.

Muttering for a moment his favourite spell, the Dwarf spoke, "De ye ken what I be, Fey? I am Umbriak! I felled your fellow with one blow, and I dinnae even swing that hard. I am nae charred beastie from this forest driven mad. I am Clan Embersworn! Fire is where we live. Stand down ye weapons, and none shall be harmed. By the fire in my veins I so swear. Lash out at Farod, and I shall be angry. Ye dinnae wish my anger." As he spoke, the Dwarf grew larger, his form shifting until he loomed over them all.

Sucking down a deep breath, Umbriak roared, "Stand! DOWN!"

With two shots, Farod managed to knock another target out (although it probably wouldn't be too long before he woke up). They looked a bit confused when Farod spoke, though - even as a song washed over the three of you, coming from the one they'd been attacking.

You are currently under the effects of Inspire Courage.

One of them spoke a moment later.

Satiesfied to have gotten a response, Farod replies: "Mura bhfuil tú ag iarraidh orainn cur isteach, ní ba chóir duit bheith i gceist againn. Mar sin, beidh tú ag míniú a thabhairt ar díbh féin, nó an bhfuil gá dúinn a dhéanamh ar an mbealach crua?"

Sylvan:
"If you don't want us to interfere, you should not have involved us. So, will you explain yourselves, or do we need to do this the hard way?"

Farod nocks another blunt arrow, stepping towards the Fey Girl so that he stays between her and the other Fey, adding:"Tá mé cinnte go bhfuil sí sásta labhairt. Cén t-ainm, cailín?"
Sylvan:
"I am certain she is willing to talk. What is your name, girl?"

Them still seeming hostile, but not having acted hostile, Farod is content to wait for their next response...but is ready to intercept anybody attacking himself or the Girl, all the same.

If one of the Fey performs an attack:

Perfect 1: 1d20 + 7 - 4 ⇒ (8) + 7 - 4 = 11 Nonlethal: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
Perfect 2: 1d20 + 7 - 4 ⇒ (12) + 7 - 4 = 15+1 if already hit before Nonlethal: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6

Umbriak stood, looking from Farod to the Fey. He had only a vague inkling of what they were saying, since Elven was as close as he could manage. He simply remained ready to hit the next Fey he could reach that tried to be aggressive.

Readied Action (Non-Lethal Smack a Fey): 1d20 + 13 - 4 ⇒ (6) + 13 - 4 = 15
Damage: 3d6 + 15 ⇒ (2, 4, 1) + 15 = 22

Ridley drew his sword, and waited.

Everyone wants to smack the fey.

Sylvan:
<"You come into our forest and dare to give us ultimatums? Truly, the arrogance of mortals has no limits."> the speaker sneered. "All you need to know is that we're going to end the flames once and for all. Now begone.">

Meanwhile, the fey girl was still singing - more quietly than before, but loudly enough to continue providing assistance to you.

Umbriak stared at the speaking one. Just...stared. And kept his axe to hand.

Readied Action (Non Lethal Smack): 1d20 + 13 - 4 ⇒ (5) + 13 - 4 = 14

"They claim WE are interfering here, and demand we leave them to their business. Which, it seems, would be ending the flames once and for all. Funny timing, now, after dozens of years. You think our previous visitor could have something to do with this? - Regardless, do stay alert...they may not like what I say next...", Farod takes a moment to update Umbriak and Ridley on whats happening, further stepping between the Girl and the other Fey.

Sylvan:
"Aye, we'll gladly leave you to whatever other business you may have. The girl gets to leave with us, though, any stabbing you had planned there won't happen today. You call it arrogance, but that's a fact."
, Farod points at the two downed Fey with a swift motion, still ready to pre-emptively strike an attacker at a moments notice.

Ridley kept waiting.

The fey discussed among themselves for a moment, and you caught the word 'Vuhl' being spoken a few times. Then the fey simply moved into the underbrush, rapidly vanishing from sight here in their home terrain... leaving the wounded and the girl.
