Arialora, what's your goal for your character's combat style? Will you be going up for melee later on when your abilities come online?

No, I'll be mainly ranged, though melee won't be bad either. Are we allowed to multiclass? I was planning on letting her develop kinda organically.
Kineticist will be half of every level no matter what though. Just saw the full version on d20pfsrd this morning. Haven't had time to fully dig into it yet though.

so, ranged/arcane, ranged/psionic, and melee/divine. That WILL be interesting, because even if I can tank, I won't be able to block enemies alone. Anybody smart will be able to bypass me on either side and get to you guys.
In that regard, it may be a good idea to use some tanky summons to shield you guys if you call stuff in...which will also give me more options later on(because I won't need to stay close all the time).
Arialora Toralamae |
I mean, I can fight in melee, just not as well unless I get Weapon Finesse. I might do that if it seems necessary.
I am going for well rounded, since we are gestalt and a three man party. If we are allowed to multiclass I might sneak in some fighter or ranger levels to get a couple more switch-hitter combat feats.
With precise shot and weapon finesse, I will essentially be equally good at range and melee. Potentially better damage-wise in melee if I "nova" by using spells and spellstrike.
But my kineticist abilities are going to go mainly into improving my fire blast I imagine.

I was planning on making this my attempt at an arcane archer (without the actual prestige class). If we need to I can probably play around with it to go more melee instead though.
I do have standard action summons a few times a day, so perhaps that will be sufficient? What do you guys think?
Eliphas Diomedes |
I'd say lets go with organic and see where it takes us. We're in this for a long ride, so I think everybody should get to play what they WANT to play. Adaptation is fine, but nobody should need to abandon plans they had for their characters.
I think we can work around it.
Aria will have stumped BaB progression, and Maverick will have Arcane Spell Failure Chance and thus be limited with Armor. Both workable but suboptimal melee choices even if either of you would alter direction.
I say we just continue on the paths we planned. If we realize we really run into problems due to lack of something, maybe GM will give us some downtime for retraining somewhere down the road.
Maverick Silidar |
Sounds good. For now I'll just keep the focus on melee oriented summons to balance things out a bit. Maybe I'll try to squeeze in Augment Summons into my archery feats.
Also, if you would like to have us participate more in a particular conversation, address my character in character. " What do you think, Mav?" Or something to that effect and I'll add in to the conversation. Otherwise I'll chime in when I have important things to say.

Some melee summons sound great.
Regarding addressing you to participate, sure...it's a player style thing that that I fully expect we will learn to understand about each other. Some players want to participate no matter if it makes sense, others may wait until called to do so.Personally, I'm usually(when not busy for other reasons) checking in about 3 times a day(morning, night, and sometime during the day), so if there's no post from me for a long time, chances are I'm waiting to see what you guys do and hope to use that as input.
Thats also why my misinterpretation asking Rednal for an update, because I felt you did not want to participate/play it out with the woman for whatever reason-apologies for skipping to conclusions there. But as said, I fully expect that kind of thing will be totally fluid after some time playing.
@Rednal+Retraining
Actually I think I'll be quite happy. I have full BaB and full Divine Casting and a nice synergy. Flurry should compensate my lack of Strenght a bit. It's "basic", not fancy, but it's splendid basic ^_^
Eliphas Diomedes |
@Rednal: Please verify that she indeed means "right", not "left"...
taking a right at the intersection would take us Northwest, another 90° right then Northeast...which means either she is blatantly lying, or the farmer did when he said we need to go south of the village.
(Or the map is upside down).
I'll gladly realize either of them lied and roll my sense motive in-game, but I want to make sure it's really that way, not just an oversight(could be because they BOTH mentioned a pond nearby, independently from one another)
Eliphas Diomedes |
I am curious about those clarifying map parts. Because right now I believe Lora IS right to be paranoid.
If we come from the ferry, towards the intersection, taking a right turn at the intersection, with another right turn in the future, will firmly place us in the north of the village unless the map is upside down.
So either she, or the villager definitely lied. But my Sense Motive probably doesn't agree with me.
Eliphas Diomedes |
Hm. Yeah, definitely. I did not have to make a Sanity Check yet. Nor did I encounter a book that drains Wisdom or strange atmospheric phenomena.
I did play Call of Cthulhu RPG with quite an exquisite GM, my treeshold for paranoia is pretty high since then ^_^
I do understand that caution is in order, though - no worries there ;)

I just found out I made RPG Superstar top 32! I will not be posting in any of my PBP games until I get my entry for round two done. Thanks for being patient with me.

Any ideas how we should proceed with Milda?
I seriously hoped to get her away from the inner city or to someone who cares for her, but sending her off alone cross-country without packing her stuff first would be bad, especially since she is infected.
I would really like to save her, somehow, but I feel finding a solution here that seems satisfactory would bog down the pbp. Should we just take her with us to the Sheriff and hope they can lock her up somewhere?
We need someplace that feels save to leave her in.
Other than that, I would assume we check A9 and A10 on the way to A5...I would leave A7 alone for now and just check those things next to the road that you took note of.
Maverick Silidar |
Checking the stuff on the road would be my plan, yeah.
As for Milda, we could try to lock her up at the sheriff's office if there's a cell there, though that's a bit unpleasant for her. Alternatively, we can just keep her with us and try to protect her as best we can. I don't want to leave her alone where she can get to dangerous things since she's probably a bigger danger to herself than anything else while she's infected.
GM Rednal |
Level 1 is awkward like that. XD; One good hit can down even a tough character.
Here's hoping you can get up soon, though! ...Or you all die and what happened in the town remains a mystery to be revealed in Part 1 of the main adventure, which should be out soonish. 8D That might be a good story, too. I make no promises either way.
Eliphas Diomedes |
well, there is a tiny fey with an interest in my continued wellbeing, so if it turns into a TPK, there's a backstory-sponsored Deus Ex Machina just waiting to happen. I suppose a single Mass Cure Light Wounds would "solve" everything. *grin*
Just kidding, whatever will be, will be.
But yeah, it's one reason I really dislike Level 1. Squishyness :)
Eliphas Diomedes |
I just got an updated version of The Assimilation Strain. In this version, North is to the Right on the main map, which makes the citation of the old gnome's place being "south" completely correct. So, nobody was lying or messing with you on that.
Aye, now I can die in peace ^_^
You did want to run a undead campaign, right?
Eliphas Diomedes |
I know it's just the prolog, but still a pity if we miss out on it's contents - but I'm trusting you, Rednal.
It's really ridiculous though. One point less, or someone else hit that hard, and I could have channeled energy(for a roll of 6 no less, i checked out of curiosity). Sometimes I really hate first level. It's so swingy, a single surprise round+Init, or lucky rolls on bonus damage(burning, sneak etc.) mean instantdowned even without a crit. When both happen together? TPK-
I'm also very disappointed in Milda.
GM Rednal |
There's a reason for why she acted the way she did, and if you do all die, I will tell you what it was at the same time you find out the aftermath of what happened in the village (which should be earlyish in the first part of the AP).
I wouldn't start thinking about new characters just yet, though - one of you is still up, and might be able to pull through and get you some healing.
Uh, scratch that. Yeah, start thinking about new characters. o wo;
But yes, first level is swingy. XD; I totally understand where you're coming from on that one, Eliphas.
