Meran has been standing back thinking quietly about the situation. She's listened to all sides, and takes a step forward. "I've listened to both sides of this argument. I must support Thalia."

She steps next to the girl, and Roran. "As Roran said we were tasked with finding proof of corruption, and gain support for our fight. I believe Thalia can get us what she promised. I'm sure her father and Koriana won't keep to their bargain. I think out of sight will turn into out of life once they can find a way dispose of Thalia, and I can't let that happen. I'm sorry."

Khellek, seeing the situation turn worse stands up and asks.

"How may we be sure you will follow through on your aid? And how may we be sure that Thalia would not be harmed?"

He looks upset with the alchemist.

"It does your case little good if as soon as you are frustrated you threaten to turn to violence."

He puffs out his feeble chest. "But we are pathfinders. We Explore. We report (including on corruption), and we Cooperate. While I don't agree with my fellows all the time, cooperation is at the Core of the society and what we do."

His words echo around the room, hopefully making everyone feel good about being a pathfinder.

And kicking off an inspire courage as it looks like combat is pretty much about to start.

Meran notices a floorboard loose under the alchemist's desk. When you pry open the floorboards, you find a cache of documents. They provide evidence that the Andares family has colluded with several other families to rig elections and keep each other in important office. There are also hints that Sander Bryton may have had an arrangement with Tercio Andares where they use their influence to help each other keep their positions as consul.

Thalia looks over the notes that you find, and points out that although Sander Bryton appears to have been slightly involved in her father's schemes (and you now have evidence of this), he may be able to provide the military aid you need.

In Koriana's display cases, you find many potions, including a potion of enlarge person, a potion of reduce person, a potion of invisibility, and three potions of cure light wounds.

Thalia asks you to accompany her to see Captain Demrick to have her father arrested, and to share with Demrick the evidence you found. You bring her as she requested. Demrick allows you to hold on to the evidence you have found temporarily, if you wish.

You go and find Sander Bryton at his home. You are invited to sit in his parlor, and drinks are brought to you. Sander Bryton sits down with you and begins to speak. "Thank you for saving my cousin Thalia. There are rumors that not all was as it appeared, and that cousin Tercio may be in trouble. Can you tell me more about what is happening?"

Khellek is about to respond when Jarlaxle puts it quite succinctly.

diplomacy(aid): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20

The scholar simply nods his head.

"Well put Jarlaxle."

Anyone else want to aid the diplomacy check? I know some of you seem to post at different times of day, so I'm going to wait for everyone to have a chance.

"What he did was go too far." She waves to the documents. "Between these documents, and Thalia's own words. It should be enough. There are others implicated in those documents as well."

Meran leans back in her seat. "There will be some cleaning out of the leadership I think."

"Perhaps we should take this time to mention that a certain name has also come up being implicated in these documents. One of which you may want to take personal notice." She lifts an eyebrow, keeping the implication obvious without speaking aloud.

Sander Bryton looks carefully over the first few pages of the documents. He does not get to the pages where his deal with Tercio is mentioned. He looks up at you, a troubled look in his eyes. "I had no idea that Tercio was subverting not just the letter of the law but also the intention of the law so much. I would never have agreed to stretch the rules a little to keep him in office if I had known of this. The Pathfinder Society has done the entire nation of Andoren a large favor by helping this come to light. I will certainly do what I can to help with your goals in the Worldwound."

The courts eventually convict Tercio Andares of betraying his oath of office and Common Rule, stripping him of property and position. Further investigations may eventually lead to the conviction of Sander Bryton, but he survives the Andares case practically unscathed. Thalia’s unswerving adherence to Common Rule and her role in rooting out corruption cause the judge to favor her request to maintain much of the family’s property with some concessions, and she donates much of the
Andares fortune to the Pathfinder Society. Sander Bryton is true to his word and sends Eagle Knights to help with the fight in the Worldwound.
