I know there's 2 dwarves but one of them is a Shield Champion, and is thus Captain Dwarf. Speaking of which, Valum, Flurry works differently for Brawlers than it does for monks; essentially it gives you a restricted version of two-weapon fighting one level after you would otherwise qualify for it; 2, 8, and 16, so you don't need to spend a feat on TWF.

Hey everyone. I will be going thru the submissions this weekend looking to make sure all the bits are in order and making a list of all submissions so far. If I've missed any questions, please let me know.

There is still a few days before the deadline so anyone else wanting to apply still can.

Hope that is correct. I never pass an opportunity to use Path of War. I have a halfling Warlord 7 mostly built. The dossier will be fun to put together though. How do you feel about Deadly Agility? I can build him with or without it.

Ive heard/read I need it to use to branch off from it for martial flexibility. Although, I could be wrong and would be happy to be. I'd love not using my feat for it!

Also, lots of interesting characters.

Second character up for consideration for the GM, if he wants to have a more dwarven centric party. Something which I would be more than happy to be part of. Below I present Thorek Bloodaxe, dwarven magus. Good for diplomacy. Good for hitting an enemy for 1d10+4+7d6 damage.

Dossier for Thorek Bloodaxe
Age: 100
Height: 4'8
Weight: 180 lbs
Eye Color: Brown
Hair Color: Brown
Identifying Marks: Large scar running across his face, from his left eye to bottom right chin. Also has an ioun stone embedded over his heart. It is cracked from when a duergar hit it with a hammer. Though, as Thorek is wont to say, better to have a cracked done than a smashed heart.
Race: Dwarf (from Janderhoff)
Profession: Miner, Smith and Merchant

Known Warrants for Arrest: Riddleport (not an arrest warrant per se...but he beat a dishonest merchant who was under the protection of Boss Croat. Thorek escaped the town with his life, but returning there would be considered by many to be a mistake)
Special Considerations: Given his magical aptitude, Thorek lacks the natural resistance to magic of his kin. He makes up for this by being able to channel lightning through his weapons)

Introduction

Venture-Captain Jalden Krensharr,

I write to you in the hopes of recommending one Thorek Bloodaxe to you. I had the pleasure of receiving his aid while making an expedition into the underdark. While near the surface, so to speak, we were exploring what were believed to be ancient dwarven ruins, abandoned before the Quest for Sky. Reports led us to believe that the ruins were uninhabited due to seismic shifts in the earth that had buried most of the city. In this, we were wrong. I accept blame in our mistake in trusting our 'guide', who turned out to be a disguised Deurgar. The gray dwarf led us straight into one of the warrens of its people. One by one we went missing, until am ambush was sprung upon the entire expedition. By the grace of some benevolent deity, I was able to flee by the aid of my magical abilities. But while I lost my pursuers, I found myself hopelessly lost. My corpse would still molder beneath the ground were it not for a chance encounter with Thorek. At first I believed him to be but a lost miner, so far was he from his clan hold. Or worse, another disguised Duergar, come to take me into slavery. But given my half-starved state, there was little I could have done should his intentions have been ill. Rather, he guided me back to the his clanhold and the surface that beckoned beyond. During this trek, I was able to gain a measure of the dwarf. He is honorable in his dealings, surprisingly pleasant of nature for one of the earth-folk, and possessed of surprising magical ability. For when forced to fight through a group of troglodytes, his axe glowed with captured lightning. Furthermore, when my strength finally failed me, he was able to summon a sturdy pony from the earth itself to carry me. I was intrigued by this dwarf, and once I recovered I cajoled him about the benefits of joining the pathfinders. His talents, thus far, are unrefined, but with proper field experience I believe that he has the talent to become a valuable member of our organization. I ask you, from one pathfinder to another, to take him under your wing lest this talent be wasted in something as mundane as digging holes far under the ground.

----

[i]"Ye be askin' who I be? Well, sounds right fair enough. Seein' as how I'm lookin' to join yer organization. The name's Thorek. Thorek Bloodaxe. Don't let the name fool ye, I'm an alright sort, if I do say so myself. An' I do. I'm a miner by trade, though I've been known to dabble in some smithin here and there, an' I sell what I dig from the earth. Now, yer probably wonderin', how'd an old miner like me get the name Bloodaxe? Well, ye see, minin' is dangerous work, if ye look for yer own finds. I've been known to go far beyond what me clan calls its territory in search of wealth. Earned me name by putting me axe to good use on the beasties that dwell in the dark. That, an' from puttin' me axe to work on young fools who think that a lone dwarf be easy prey. For ye see, I follow the old ways. The ways o' rune bindin'. Was told long ago that I've got that magic talent, ye ken? But I'm nay some finger wagglin', dress wearin' elfling. Nay, magic is far too dangerous to let it fly about, all willy-nilly! Ye have to take it, an' bind it. Put it in runes. Trap it, an' release it only when the time be right. Safer that way. For ye, an' all around ye. An' I'm good at it too, though I know that I risk bein' seen as arrogant when I say so. Quite good at bindin' lightnin' in me axe. Able to do quite a few other useful tricks as well, when I put me mind to it.

Now, why do I want to be a pathfinder? Well...I met me one. Was half dead when I found him, far under the ground. Not the best meetin' ye understand. But ye know what? Somethin' in that lad spoke to me. The passion that he had for explorin', for addin' to the amount of knowledge that we have. He was a good sort, and he convinced me about the worthiness of this cause. And ye know what? I'm not gettin' any younger. So here I am, ready to put me axe or me pick to good use, an' ready to see what this world has to offer."

Note: I plan to do the following.

Italics for speaking common with an accent
Bold for speaking dwarven without an accent.

Also want to point out...

(1) Orlog BrightShield
* Dwarven Warpriest

(2) Ivan The Mountain Stoneshoulder
* Dwarven Tower Shield Fighter

(3) Valum Stoneshield
* Dwarven Shield Champion Brawler

(4) Thorek Bloodfist
* Dwarven Deep Warden Magus

(5) Mystery Person

It's a dwarven shieldwall! Comes complete with healing, arcane magic, and plenty of tanking potential.

Be a interesting party but that 5th is def. not a dwarf:P Valzoa is the 5th and first which is a elf.:P

It'll be fun either way though. Good chance on more than a few dwarves for sure!

ooooo dwarven shield wall! guys, we should look into some teamwork feats lol.

we can stand shield to shield and advance with the elf shooting arrows/magic over our heads since we are short!

Teamwork feats! Good idea. Shield Wall would be a good one.

Sadly, Thorek needs to have a buckler because he needs a free hand to cast spells and the other hand needs to be a dwarven weapon. So he'd only give +1 AC to whomever is adjacent to him.

But everyone else has a heavy shield. With shield wall, they give +2 AC to the adjacent dwarf. And the bonus stacks!

So, for example. Marching order.

O - I - V
T - x - M

Orlog, Valum and Ivan up front. Ivan can go total cover from his tower shield, and he gives it to Orlog and Valum. He also gets +4 AC.

Orlog gets +2 AC from Ivan and +1 AC from Thorek. Valum gets +2 AC from Ivan and +? from the mystery player.

Furthermore, Thorek can cast enlarge person on himself. This grants him reach, and pushes his damage up to 2d8+5+7d6. Quite respectable, while still giving Orlog +1 AC.

I have no idea what the mystery player is going to play...but if he is a ranged character he could also have shield wall and fire with a buckler. Precise Shot, Point Blank Shot, Shield Wall. Then take the trait deadly aim (lets you ignore cover granted by 1 ally being in the way) and he could fire from the formation with +1 hit and +1 damage, while still giving extra AC to his allies. Or he could have a reach weapon. Between that and Thorek casting enlarge person, we'd have quite a defensive formation.

It becomes a dwarven wall of death. Advancing 30ft forward each round, grinding enemies to death. We'd just need to delay turns until we can all move together so no one dwarf gets caught out. And each keep a missile weapon incase we need to force the enemy to come to us.

The best part of this is the tower shield. Total cover for everyone makes it quite a good defensive item when staying in formation.

I'm still here. Work kicking my ass today, I'll get the submission list up tonight. Just back from holiday break and paying for it big time.

I see a bunch of questions I need to look over, I'll get those answered tonight too.

Small tiny bit of clarification though:

Sidenote, I can use most of teamwork feats.;)

Also @GM what kind of accounting? I'm public and tax

this was how I imagined it. Perhaps someone could take a reach/trip weapon? they get close, trip them, and we marche over and an envelop them! lol.

everything was perfect, until the fireball attackedd....

Yes! Zeebu is a goblin and I'll stick with it :) I know people are talking about the whole dwarf party and I think it's a cool concept, but I just love Zeebu too much to submit anything else, hehe.

@Josh.Ingle sorry I had missed the original question. There will be some time for social, but it will likely be more weighted on the combat side. Most of the social is fairly early in the first module, then a lot of dungeon crawl. For future possible modules, unknown.

@Zayne Iwatani toss up the build and I'll look it over. feat looks ok so far, I know there are a few similar feats for specific weapon types.

@Caeldran Windstalker Which character has preference? Dwarf only for more dwarfiness, or either one equally?

@Valum Stoneshield General, I am one of two accounting managers, but I mainly do our external/related parties books and all tax/licensing.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Last 24hours! Still time for submissions.

I also want to say, I wish I could take everyone. But I will need to narrow down to 4 + rungok. I already know this will not be an easy decision based on the outstanding submission pool I have so far. And who knows what tasty tidbits will submit in the coming hours.

Given that you just said that this is combat heavy, I think that the dwarf will be more useful to the party. With that said, you know the story better than I. Whichever character that you (the venture captain) thinks is better for the job is the one I'll play (assuming one is chosen)

Going to have to take it anyway. He was gestalted with brawler which lowered the int req on feats. Because of combat expertise's 13 int req I need to drop the str I had. Build isn't complete but here is the fluff.

Description:
Kennen is a little more charismatic than your average Halfling Friend in Every Town. When he sings, he sings loud. When he meets new people, he's always ready with a joke or a smile. When he fights, he fights hard. Also when he fights, he is more prone to launch himself at the largest, toughest enemy and hope for the best.

He grew up in the slums but had a surprisingly happy childhood. At least for a little while. He lost a dear friend when he was young to an accident involving some local bullies. An accident he felt he could have prevented if he was stronger. A strong protective instinct and determination grew in him from this accident. But weapons felt awkward and magic eluded him. Instead, he cultivated his own fighting style, one based around his own strengths.

He eventually grew strong enough to challenge the bullies and win. Then he could take on adult human thieves in the slum. Then he could take on almost any thug in town. He grew extremely adept at weaving through the population centers Crowd Dodger. When he thought his home safe enough, he moved on, helping out everyone he could in every town he went. Though he helps any he comes across, he is still focused on his own race as their size makes them prime targets for certain nefarious deeds. For that reason, he even joined the Bellflower network for a short time as a rogue agent.

I don't usually find myself in cities, but when I do there is always something exciting to see. This visit was no different. I was re-supplying for my next venture when I came across a not uncommon scene. Some brutish looking fellows were trying to bully some foreigner for coin. I thought I might step in but someone beat me to it. At first I thought it the man's child but he was certainly not dressed as a child. No, it was one of the small, jovial race of halflings. He approached confidently and stepped between the foreigner and the ruffians. They talked for some time, the halfling leading them on and talking circles around them. Finally they could stand no more and attacked. Brilliant maneuver to get them to through the first punch. The people of Cheliax are big on rules. Anyway, from experience, I have not known many halflings to stand at the front of a fight, not at least without a companion. Again, I thought to help. But after the first nearly effortless dodge and retaliation, I held back. It was fascinating to watch. Three grown men versus one halfling and they could not touch him. I could recommend him on battle prowess alone but his attitude aligns with the Pathfinder's quite well. He killed none of them and immediately turned them over to the authorities so he is both merciful and obeys the law. I spoke with him after and found he has journeyed quite far. He is amicable and delight to talk too. He's also written a fair share of his journey in a very odd journal. Apparently he belongs to a non-centralized organization that collects stories like his writeen in the hand of the adventurer themselves. If we could work with him on this we could also expand our own libraries and knowledge base. When I suggested joining he seemed amenable to the services we offer. I think this could be mutually beneficial.

Hadrian is a good-natured, but impulsive person. The son of a travelling doctor, Hadrian and his father were attacked by Chelish slavers and themselves enslaved when the younger vishkanya was but a child. Growing up a Chelish slave was difficult, but he survived it, escaping when the Bellflower Network attacked the caravan that was transporting him to Kintargo two years ago. They wouldn't help him further than that; he was just incidental, and the Network only actively aided halfling slaves, but journeying the rest of the way to Kintargo saw Hadrian meet up with a group of rebels called the Silver Ravens.

At first, his membership in the Ravens was limited to that of a field medic, but he learned enough of combat to take the field himself, soon enough. He fought with the rebels until the Chelish government took matters into their own hands and struck back, hard, scattering the Ravens to the winds.

The moment Hadrian fled Kintargo was the moment he met the leader of the Sczarni in Absalom, Guaril Karela.

Letter of Recommendation:
Venture-Captain Krensharr
FWD from Ambrose Valsin

Dear Ambrose Valsin,

I recently encountered someone who you might be interested to hear about. He's a vishkanya, or so the scales around his eyes tell me, which is intriguing enough, but he's also part of that failed Kintargo rebellion you seemed ever so interested in. A bit noble for my tastes, but I digress. He's definitely a talent up your alley, or maybe Venture-Captain Dreng's; no silly magic or divine prayers, just his own wits and a pair of knives, but damn if it wasn't impressive to see him cutting his way to the docks with a squad of Hellknights on his tail. Doesn't bother with any of that "fighting fair" nonsense that those damn Crusaders won't shut up about, either. If he weren't so damn moral...

But, you know the fate of the Ravens as well as I, possibly better given that I've only been paying incidental attention to them, and this young man finds himself bereft of a job. He's got talent, and if he wouldn't surely find the Sczarni... objectionable... I'd field commission the lad myself. I feel like this Hadrian fellow might be a good person to have a marker on, so if you could pass this on to a Venture-Captain looking for new blood I'd consider it a personal favor.

Sincerely,
Guaril Karela

Escape from Kintargo:
"Damn these traitorous cowards!" The cry was loud, and the slam of a curved knife into wood reverberated down the alley, but the vishkanya kept running even as the awning collapsed on top of the lead Hellknight.

The Ravens had been betrayed, a few of the newer members panicking as the Hellknight presence in Kintargo increased, and confessing in a desperate effort to save themselves.

Idiots. The Order of the Rack wouldn't spare them just because they'd confessed before the torture.

The rogue's cloak billowed behind him as he rushed through the alleyways, the metallic crashing of a squad of sprinting hellknights following him as he wove through the back alleys of Kintargo towards the docks. Those bastards were faster than anyone in full plate mail had a right to be, easily keeping pace with Hadrian even though the relatively-unarmored vishkanya was panting with exertion. The white-haired man pulled a square of paper from his pack as he darted into a particularly narrow alleyway, taking a few precious seconds to lay it on the ground and rip the protective wax paper off the tar trap before again taking off at full tilt. His efforts were rewarded with the sound of a curse and the crashing of at least two Hellknights together as the trap caught them fast.

In his celebration, Hadrian almost ran into the Hellknight that they had sent ahead to watch the docks. Spitting venom on his weapon, Hadrian slipped his kukri between the plates on the man's knee and kept going. Behind him, the lone knight staggered after Hadrian before slumping over into unconsciousness, even as the rogue made a flying leap to the one ship that was already moving, rolling onto the deck and panting hard.

The sound of applause made the vishkanya look up to see a Varisian man who could best be described as "greasy". "Well done, young lad," the dark-haired stranger said. "I don't suppose I could interest you in a job?"

Got a heavy day of work today, I'll be re-reviewing the submissions tonight when I get home, trying to narrow things down further. Probably tomorrow before I can post the selections.

I'm waiting with bated breath. Only YOU can determine how many freaking dwarves I'll have to work with! :P

3 people marked this as a favorite.

a shame there aren't 7 of them, though. I'd follow the adventures of valzoa and the 7 dwarves.

Are we suppose to start singing, "Heigh-ho, Heigh-ho, it's off to work we go?"

Hi Ho Hi Ho , Its Off To Work We Go!!
We did dig dig dig dig dig dig dig
In our Mine the whole day through
To dig dig dig dig dig dig dig dig
Its what we like to do
It aint no trick
To get rich quick
If ya dig dig dig
With a shovel or a stick
In the Mines (Echo: In the mines)
LOUDER: IN THE MINES(echo: IN THE MINES)
Where a million diamonds
LONG: Shhhiiinnnneee (shine)
We dig dig dig dig dig dig dig dig
From early mornin' til' night
We dig dig dig dig dig dig dig dig
Up everything in sight
We take our time
Then find some more

Well...Thorek does have +15 in mining.

DIGGY DIGGY HOLE!!!

Venture-Captain Jalden Krensharr sats in his study, a comfortable chair behind his large sturdy desk. Reading another report from the Mithral Scarab, this time good news. Raegos has finally agreed to speak with his representatives.

If only he had someone to meet with the man. Jalden sighed. Jaku and his men had just left for the Sodden Lands a few days before the khamsin swept thru the valley. Still no word from Harkeen and his wife, going on 4 months now.

He glanced at the stack of dossiers on his desk. "Guess this will have to do" he said aloud to the empty room and began sorting them into piles. One for rejects, one for those with the most potential. As he sorted, the reject pile grew large quickly. He didn’t want anyone too green, who would too easily get themselves killed. A few names he recognized, rumors and gossip from here or there. One he recognized from the newest batch of local wanted posters.

After an hour, he had two piles. The rejects easily three times as tall. The potentials about a dozen names, maybe less. And two files still in his hands.

Valzoa Coldhearth – Ustalav. Recommended by VC Trice. He did owe Trice a favor. And Valzoa looked capable enough. Jalden moved that file to a third pile. That’s one.

He looked down at the last file in his hands, Zeebu – Goblin, and started to move it to the reject pile without opening it. Then the recommendation caught his attention and upon it the Seal of Lord Erannius Aldori. Well, now, that is interesting… Jaldren read thru the letter, rechecked the seal for authenticity, then reread the letter once again. His curiosity peaked, he placed the file on the potential pile.

Taking the potential pile, and Valzoa’s file, he headed to the Den. This would take some time to review. May as well get comfortable, perhaps with a drink or two.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

By the time Jalden had finished reading the reports and letters several more times the candles had grown dim and the carafe of wine was almost drained. "Subtle" would not be this groups name. But they did seem capable enough to deal with any attention they brought on themselves.
Valzoa Coldhearth
Zeebu
Orlog BrightShield
Valum Stoneshield
Thorek Bloodaxe

Picking up his antique quill, he began making travel arrangements and notes for information the group would need upon arrival.

Thank you everyone who applied. This was not an easy decision to narrow down.
Discussion and Gameplay threads will be open soon.

I'm sad now =(

but congrats to those who were accepted and hope you have an amazing time!

Excited to play. Looks like it'll be an interesting group!

I haven't GM'd for a pbp, but choosing people would be rough. I'm normally forced to GM games with my knuckle-headed friends, so I never have to worry about who to choose. Although, for a couple of them that wouldnt be so bad.

Alas, this dwarf will return to his travels.

My thanks for choosing this character. Really looking forward to this RP
