The half-orc tilts his head with something like disinterest, his eyes slowly taking in the archers preparing another volley of arrows from above. He looks at the woman warrior, sniffing her for signs of something, before he raises his flail and tries to crush her skull.

Flail: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22 for 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13 damage

He looks up, pointing his now bloody flail at the injured warrior and grunting a wordless order. He then casually walks into the corner, turning his back on the women until he arrives at his new position.

He doesn't seem to notice Rae's errant blade.

Ascaria watches Sol rush off into the room beyond his sight. He then watches Pillette rush in and get pierced for her trouble. He wonders how many archers are in there and if anyone is going to bother with them, or just let them cut us down. He staggers a little as Rae is hit, though he can't see her.*

I’m not going in there. It’s stupid.

None the less, he does take a 5’ step toward the door, looking to see Tynan around the corner.

He tries to help Mort in his unexplained actions by drawing out the key (move) and holding it out to him, ”Shouldn’t we deal with the archers somehow? I mean I know Sol has the bow, but she charged in after something or other. Tynan throws stuff, but maybe he can’t throw that far. I don’t know if Pillette’s crossbow is going to be enough - I mean she isn’t even loading it. Do you have anything you can do?”

He heals Pillette, himself, and maybe Tynan too if he’s still got any injuries after he used his potion. Rae and Sol are much too far away to be healed.

Mortimer takes the key that is proffered by Ascaria. He places it into the lock, then tries to turn the key and open the door.

"Well, I am working on the archers, Ascaria. I'm hoping that there is a set of stairs behind this door that leads to the rampart upon which they stand. My aim is to toss them off."

Pillette nobly draws fire as she steps onto the slaughter floor. Tynan ducks under the balcony, and consumes vitality. Solrisa glides along the floor, cornering the half-orc with her sister. Raella overcomes the urge to flee, her aim deflected in the process. Ascaria hands off a key, and crackles his healing energy to those in range. Mortimer unlocks and opens his door, hoping to approach the problem from a different angle.

Ascaria, Mortimer:

The door opens effortlessly, revealing a lit corridor that extends beyond 30'. Mortimer can see another door at the end of the hallway.

The archers obey, firing with fervor at the bloodied warrior.

The half-orc comes to life a little, as almost every arrow fails to find its mark. He bellows his anger, and the tieflings moan quietly as they reach for their next arrows, save for the one tiefling holding up his duties.

A loaded crossbow in one hand, flash powder in the other, the light from Mort and Ascaria only allows her to see the statue, leaving the archers and combat out of range from her vision.

Unable to see any targets, she slips the flashpowder into her bandolier and scrambles to the side, trying to find any cover offered by the balcony, pillars or wall, as she grabs at a different pouch on her bandolier.

The woman on the balcony taps her teeth with her fingernail, then points at Pillette, Solrisa, and Raella. She sneers, as she starts to understand that the archers' work is being unwritten.

"Garras, take care. They're being healed. The coward in the corner quaffed a potion, but the others are receiving assistance."

She waves her hand to touch each little girl in the room.

Pillette and Raella, a Will Save, DC 14 to resist her Bane- -1 to Attack Rolls and -1 to Saves v Fear Effects. Sorry, Rae. Your sister isn't close enough for her lovely +4 to this Save.

Ascaria spits out a little blood as he continues to heal the party.*

He watches Pillette slip from view to the southeast. Seeing only Mort, he wonders what to do. I cannot heal them much from here… F+@$ it.

He firmly plants his hat on his head and moves into the trap. He drifts a little Pillette’s way hoping to see her again as he enters the chamber. When he reaches the statue, he heals himself with the wand.

Mortimer glances down the empty hallway and sighs as Ascaria scuttles into The Battle Arena.

No surprise there. Do they make potions to cure this sort of ... insanity?... He looks East at the 30' tall statue and scowls.

Deflect Arrows still going.
Keys in one hand, Mort quaffs the potion he's been holding in the other and moves purposefully into the Arena, still grasping the empty bottle. Gazing up at the statue and taking in the ramparts (what he can see of them), he positions himself in the Northwest corner of the room.

"Take your best shot, you cantankerous wads of lard."

This is easily the most reckless thing I've ever thought to do.

Pillette scrambles to secure something from her bandolier, hiding like a mouse from the circling hawk. Tynan removes a flask from his belt pouch, and finds a corner. Solrisa repays the half-orc for striking her sister by almost separating his arm from his body. Nice crit! Raella makes sure the half-orc won't rise with simpler healing magics. Ascaria bleeds, then follows the others like a lemming. Mortimer doesn't bleed, but mimics the blind gnome by entering the battle hall.

Balcony Woman wrote:

From somewhere behind her, a conciliatory voice answers. "There, there, Kendra. No need to shout."

Almost as quickly as Mortimer enters the hall, the doors swing shut behind him, a solid click resonating through the room.

Directly behind Ascaria, a phantom mace appears out of thin air, and swings down on the hell-blesser.

Kendra wails, then points a finger directly at Raella. "Make her pay first." The tone of her voice is murder, and the archers carry out her order to the letter.

As Ascaria brings his torch into the room, the halfling's eyes can just barely start to identify the dim outline of the first archer in the otherwise dark arena. Hearing too many threats, bow twangs, and sword slices, she retrieves and launches a sunrod, hoping the impact will light it up.

Toss Sunrod: 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 6 + 1 = 9
She is aiming for a spot about 10' behind the statute, trying to shed some light on the dim and dark balconies as well as the combat happening towards the end of the arena.

The slip tosses a much needed sunrod into the center of the room, illuminating most of the chamber. Everyone, save Mortimer, is unaware of the back half of the balcony seating.

Mortimer:

A man stands ten feet behind Kendra. This is likely Thedrick, as he looks at Kendra with something like longing. He flicks his gaze back to the room, now newly lit. His hand slips from the throne languidly.

Kendra looks down on slain Garras, and the light of the sunrod glistens in the tears streaming down her face. She bites her lower lip, bringing a crimson flow down her chin, while she pulls a scroll from her waist belt. Whispered words mix with sobs, and the paper falls from her hands as the magic bursts forth, a magnified mirror of her wail. It targets the sisters only.

Spellcraft DC 17:

Kendra's cast Sound Burst.

Rae shakes off the sonic grief, her fury growing even more intense. She rushes the statue, trying to push it down to use as a ramp.

Tynan takes advantage of the distractions to dart out from the shadows and hurl an alchemist fire at one of the tieflings on the balcony. The flask sails swiftly, striking the devilish bowman squarely in the chest. It bursts open, the fiery liquid coating the startled archer.

Watching Rae line up opposite Mort and begin her run, Ascaria shouts out, "Rae, NO! The other way! Join up with Mort!"

The explosive sound still echoing in the room seems to stir something in Tynan and Raella, as the balcony, or, more specifically, the archer, ignites in alchemist's fire, and the central statue of Asmodeus topples into the northern balcony.

The grey rectangle on the map represents a makeshift ramp, which proves to be difficult terrain(x2 for each square moved)

Ascaria and Mortimer are up!

Unable to continue to aid the party indirectly, Ascaria drops his lifelines on Rae and Sol (immediate).

He shakes his head as Rae does what Mort intended to do. He can no longer see Sol, and he’s not willing to follow the silly sisters any further into the trap-room, so Ascaria takes what cover he can behind and under the statue to avoid archers and channels energy to heal the rest of the party. (channel reaches everyone excepting Sol)

Mortimer watches in dismay as Rae charges the statue from the opposite corner.

"Oh no Rae! The other way!"

He sighs as it topples away from Thedrick and Kendra and away from their very own archers Sol and Pillette.

I was wrong. He begins to hurry toward the fallen statue now ramp. There was a more reckless approach.
"Thanks for pointing it out," he barks sarcastically as he passes Rae ascending the ramp.

I'm just dreaming, right? I'm really back at the Salute. That jail/Smenk thing never happened. I'm just bored. This never really happened.
He recalls how -- without even cocking a ranged weapon -- everyone except himself and Ascaria charged into a room full of unreachable archers.

Yah, no. It's happening. Even I couldn't make that up.

Finding himself next to a Tiefling on the rampart, he prepares to acquaint its face with his fist.

Double Move.

Rae attacks the Ape in hopes of clearing a path for her beloved sister...and the little folk too. With her final attack, a shudder runs through her, her last breath catching her by surprise as she slumps to the floor at the Ape's feet.

Pillette injures the ape with a bolt into its flank. Tynan finishes what he started, ending the burnt tiefling's life. Solrisa pins an arrow on the apey. Raella finishes the ape, then collapses, finally. Ascaria heals most with his final crackle. Mortimer invades Thedrick's personal space.

The mace floats for a moment, then flicks towards the halfling still standing. Pillette becomes its new focus.
