Solrisa looks around for the 'tough' ones that Ascaria was referring to as she barely had a scratch on her. It goes to her point that she'd be better at protecting if everyone would just attack her instead of others.

She beams at Ascaria as he offers healing, but she's feeling fine.

"Yes, let's get down and see what's next. If that silly dragon wanted something in here, then we should get it first," Solrisa says, now focused on a 'thing''.

If Mort is leading the party down, she will follow at the end. If Mort trails, Sol will take point and tread down the falls.

The Falling River continues to descend, deeper and deeper. Feeder streams meet and merge with the plummeting main river, sometimes reminiscent of pouring wine over pyramid-stacked glasses at a banquet.

You enter another largish chamber, this one with no flooring, only a grand Basin. Without your gift of flight, this passage would require intense climbing ability, as well as swimming in ice-cold mineral waters.

Deeper to the Basin, you find another Cascade, which violently mists on all sides, as the water buffets against various rocky formations resistant to the River's erosive effects.

Mortimer:

It is here, through the mists, where you detect something in the face of the rock. A stone door, impossible for the untrained eye to detect, and yet your eyes failed to miss it.

Further into the abyss, another Narrows awaits you.

Perception DC 25:

There is the faint tracing of a greenish-yellow light, roughly defining a depth of 200' down, where there appears to be another reflective floor, a possible ending to the Falling River.

Rae would usually eat the components, then take mine because she wanted to practice more...especially if the ingredients were honey or sugar. That's okay though, because I wasn't very good at spellology either."

"There's also an effort to mining that I appreciate. It doesn't come easy, these wonders." he looks around the spectacle before them, "...or often."

He smiles at Eri, "Glad you're OK. You're not used to being up close to the enemy much. But yeah, it's gonna happen. I don't suppose you can wear a shield or buckler?" he holds up his own mithral buckler. "These things are great! I wanted to get one for Mort, but got him the larger version instead. That was a mistake. Too unwieldy for when he grapples. He needs a buckler like mine."

He listens as Sol doesn't quite get it, but smiles at the story. I could use some lunch. he thinks to himself. Maybe when the spells start to expire we can take a break.

Eidi walks in the air to carefully study the stone door. The Theurge uses detect magic during his examination "Hmmm... interesting...".

Ascaria joins Eidi by the wall with a Detect Magic of his own. He hopes there are no more glyphs though, as he can no longer read them today.

He stares at the wall, and doesn't see the door, but he trusts Mort wouldn't lie about something like that.

"Nice find Mortimer, secret doors are always better than tunnels." he grins at the thought of what like beyond.

There do not appear to be any detectable magics afoot.

The walls are roughly hewn, and the stairs are wetted only for the first twenty feet from the mists of the River. The stairs ascend forward one hundred feet, as well as upwards one hundred feet. Eventually, you emerge at the top of the stairs, where you are greeted by room 40' wide, and 20' long. The ceiling is 50' above you.

Before you stands a pair of cyclopean black doors, which reach to the ceiling. Even from your position at the top of the stairs, you can begin to see gigantic runes in the torchlight, some at eye level, others reaching into the blackness above. The metal of the door appears pristine, as if freshly made.

Eri, please make a Will Save DC 22. Failure, and you are unable to approach the Doors.

As Eri tries to approach, those of you wise in the ways of magic observe the interaction.

Knowledge(Arcana) DC 28:

Eri was struck by an Antipathy spell, which appears to be attached to the Doors.

He turns to the magic users. "Is there some kind of spell to summon caterers? Maybe we can catch a bite here."

This is our tangent thread, where we come to discuss matters, Out-Of-Character. No need for blue words(literally).

This thread is a great place to let the group know about absences, to discuss my inevitable combat malfunctions, or to share a life's experience, since we'll be traveling together for the next couple of years!

Also, when leveling characters, we'll use this thread to post the adjusted stats. Karen and Scott, I'm chatting you up on this, but you're in great company, so when you see monkeys doing, do as said monkeys do, and you'll shine like they do.

It's been my experience that the OOC thread gets a lot of the 'grind' work done, including treasure allocation, crafting, and the like.

Speaking of which- Euan, would you be so kind as to set up the treasure sheet, when you have the time? Much, much appreciated.

So I can get the correct treasure allocated to everyone, please let me know what your starting gold was.

For example, mine was 200gp (if I did it right, hehehe). I don't care what you've spent - I'm not tracking that. I'm only tracking the max gold you've received from all sources (more or less).

Once I get that from everyone, and we get at least one item of treasure for the group, I'll share the treasure sheet. For now it's half-finished with placards where real data will go once I get some. :)

The treasure sheet is in its infancy, but here it is in all it's splendor.

I think GM Rat Sass is going to link it at the top with the other important links.

Normally I'd keep a small pouch of gold in the party until a good divvy point, but we're at a good divvy point so let's divvy our loot so far!

We picked up a pouch of gold at 240gp, so we each get 40gp for ourselves. Note it on your character sheet or wherever you're tracking such things.

I'll make posts like this in the future letting people know when we're selling stuff and divvying up the proceeds. It's also typical for us to buy things as a group (like wands of healing and the like) and I'll handle that as well for the group. Of course, we have to agree as a group to buy stuff - I'll not go off half cocked and buy stuff willy-nilly with your money.

Also, this is not being done in character. Ascaria is not good with gold and so you do not want him doing these things.

As with all things, let me know if you want me to track something different or you have questions about the spreadsheet.

I didn't believe the swarm requires a -4 penalty to throw 'into combat' unless it's actually on someone, but now I'm not so sure.

Two characters are engaged in melee if they are enemies of each other and either threatens the other. If your target (or the part of your target you're aiming at, if it's a big target) is at least 10 feet away from the nearest friendly character, you can avoid the –4 penalty, even if the creature you're aiming at is engaged in melee with a friendly character.

If your target is two size categories larger than the friendly characters it is engaged with, this penalty is reduced to –2. There is no penalty for firing at a creature that is three size categories larger than the friendly characters it is engaged with.

Precise Shot: If you have the Precise Shot feat, you don't take this penalty.

It says if 'either threatens the other' so if we're threatening the swarm we suffer a -4 (because it cannot threaten us). However, we cannot harm the beast with any weapon we carry (short of the fire of course) so it can be easily said we're just standing around the swarm and not actually threatening it.

That however is a DM call I think. Rat Sass - what is your ruling? I can find nothing on the message boards to support this one way or another.

It's an interesting scenario to consider, I'll give you that. We've got a swarm thickly carpeting the floor, as opposed to a murmuration occupying the volume of the 5' by 5' square. The downward trajectory alone would seem to indicate that there isn't as much risk to friendly fire your companions, in this instance at least.

For our game, I'm ruling that there is no penalty for targetting the swarm among you all. That should help with the subsequent swarms as well :) And I reserve the right to rethink as we go, of course. And to rethink my rethink...

GM Rat Sass, Tynan and I were chatting about cover this morning and have a question. Do you want us to apply Cover Penalties on our attack rolls? Technically it is a bonus to the target's AC.

I've always included my own cover penalties with my ranged warriors, but every DM is different, and I don't want to suffer a -8 for cover 'cause I'm adding it and you're adding it.

Let us know what you would prefer.
