Once back in the room, Eri stashes the belt out of sight.

Upon awakening Eri casts http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic/all-spells/m/mage-armor and http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic/all-spells/m/message
He doesn’t waste any time to collect his gear and then seeks Khava.

Mort wrote:
”No! No! Of course we want to go!”

”Yes. Let’s get to the slightly less fetid air of the city. I do not like it here in this prison in a prison-city. Has anyone secured Khava yet?” GET ME OUT OF HERE!!! WHERE IS THE COFFEE?!?!?

Mort again wrote:
”In the very least -- finances allowing -- I think I might want to browse for a new weapon before we try to confront them again,”

”Need arrows, too.” need coffee

”Yes, stay together. When we leave we should watch to see if anyone follows us. I’m ok with going to that library. Probably won’t get as good a chance to get there undetected.”

Do not want any of the ‘to sell’ goods, er evils.

Mortimer balks as the party debates. He stands a little closer to Solrisa.

"I think the scrolls would be right down there, in that big hole-in-the-ground in the middle of the Cenoby. That is right over the chamber with the egg thing. The altar would be there," he says, pointing East of the hole. "One or two of us ... or I -- could climb down and check for the scrolls, it wouldn't take long -- assuming the guards don't stop us."

He turns to Solrisa. "Then we can head up to supper, learn about the house, and scheme to get in that way. If they think we know nothing about their Library after we leave here, we might have a better chance at surprising them."

The Champion Legio can certainly ascertain that the central silo that 'allowed' the ulgurstasta to erupt through the arena floor has been cordoned off in the way that an elite cadre of Asmodean priests can do so- the floor has been completely restored to stone, with no dome any longer occupying the central hub of the Catafalque understructure. There is no word circulating among the Gold Cloaks that anything below was revealed regarding Bozal's Haunt.

The Coenoby guard post is light, with the remaining contingent of Gold Cloaks stationed at Arena level, awaiting a brief escort for the Artists and Outcasts to ascend the grand staircase to Thrune Square above.

Returning to Bozal's lair should prove more effortless, now that the Gauntlet has concluded, and maintenance crews have been pared down to skeleton necessity. With Invisibility provided by Eidi, you can make your way back, for however long you require to investigate.

The altar is still intact, and it stands bare. The Apostolic Scrolls are no longer there.

Knowledge(Arcana) DC 20:

It's probable that the release of the ulgurstasta has destroyed the Scrolls outright, as by their very nature, scrolls are singular use items.

From Bozal's rabbit runs, the Legio can return to the Coenoby, where the singular pair of Gold Cloaks awaits you and your return to the surface, or the Artists and Outcasts can press onwards and upwards to the library, and the part of the Catafalque previously unexplored, where once ladies were heard conversing.

I'll keep Eidi's and Ascaria's wonderful rolls in mind, if/when the party returns to the city.

Ascaria has a flash of insight, that should have been obvious to him before, but the nature of the thing had eluded him. ”Of course - they’re scrolls!” he laughs ”Sol, the scrolls were used up in the summoning. They’re likely blank, or burned up in the process of the summoning and controlling of the great beast.”

He checks the altar magically, just in case, with a Detect Magic. Satisfied there is nothing here (hopefully), he suggests, ”We could listen in at the library again, or just head back and check out the other side in the city later. I vote to check it out on the city side. This place gives me the creeps.”

"Maybe," Sol says hesitantly reaching into her pouch and drawing out a scroll and nodding at it as if confirming she's correct. "But sometime scrolls hold more than one spell. Sometimes scrolls hold many spells because the paper is longer or the words are shorter or whatever, I think. I'm not saying it's not gone, but that we don't know that it's gone-gone." Solrisa looks around again, including many places she's already looked (like atop the altar again) and her own pouch (as if it might have gone in there).

"Let's go to the library now." Sol leads the party that direction again. "We're here and there is little reason to avoid it now."

Bald male Half-Elf elder

Eidi nods "I agree, just have a look at that library"

The elder half-elf sets himself in the middle of the group and continues tor provide the sphere of invisibility cover to them.

|Roll20 Link- Carrion Crown| |Roll20 Link- Age of Worms|

With Eidi's continued cloaking, you manage to access the small library once more. Nothing has changed, from your cursory inspection, though the room is certainly neatly appointed, and clean. The library door is closed, at present.

Roll20 Map is updated. To refresh your memory, you've taken a northern hallway from Bozal's lair, which led to a set of stairs leading up to the level of the Catafalque understructure which has been previously identified as a possible private wing for Loris Raknian, during the days of the Gauntlet.

”Wait a moment.” Ascaria cautions in a whisper. ”We don’t know what’s on the other side of this door. Could be a couple old ladies having tea. Could be a couple devils dicing up a victim. Let’s be ready.”

He, being paranoid, casts a few buffs before the group heads out. He uses the rod to cast Bless (+1 attacks & saves vs fear (morale)). He does the same with Protection from Evil, communal and even casts Protection from Energy Communal (16 minutes or 120hp of Fire damage, whichever comes first) though not with the rod.

Sol brightens as Ascaria mentions tea...because that usually also means 'cookies' as well. She's had a lot of cookies recently, but that doesn't mean she doesn't want more.

While waiting for Ascaria, she gives barkskin to herself and Mort.

When others are ready, she opens the doors hoping for tea and cookies...or the chance to remove Loris' head from his shoulders. She'd like that more than cookies.

Eri steels himself for a bit of tea by casting Gravity Bow and cracking his knuckles.

"It is never bad to be ready" says Eidi while producing a small bone from his pouch and casting defending bone on himself.

The half-elf then sets himself next to Mortimer to advance with the giant brawler into the library.

"We should check if there are cookies receipts in that library"

Mortimer opens the library door, very carefully, very slowly. Beyond lies a large chamber wrought in stone, a hall of sorts. The walls are lined with evenly-spaced rectangles made of marble. Each rectangle is etched with fine writing. The central reflecting pool is surrounded by sandstone support columns, as well as two braziers that seem to be doing their job in dispersing both heat and light to the entire room. The light and heat likely extend through the small sets of stairs that leave the room to the north and west.

On the opposite side of the reflection pool sit two maidens, dressed as one would expect servants to dress. One has fair hair, while the other bares brunette tresses. Both are under twenty years of age, at first glance. They sit with their backs to you, enjoying a repast of bread, cold cuts, and cheese. How long they will go unaware of your intrusion, who's to say.

Mortimer nods to Solrisa, points to the reflecting pool and the stairs. He steps through the doorway, puts his index finger to his lips, then gestures to invite all the invisible everyone elses into the room. He holds the door open for them whether it is necessary or not.

He will carefully and quietly close the door once everyone is through.

Ascaria double moves into the room, just past the door and along the wall, trusting to his invisibility to hide him. He follows the group (Eidi in particular) wherever he goes so as to stay hidden.

He says nothing, but his eyes sparkle with excitement.

The party breaches the large hall, closing the door behind themselves only after everyone is quietly clear of the library doorway.

The nearby walls are enough to confirm the nature of the room- you stand in a grand mausoleum. The rectangles of marble in the walls are etched with fond words for the departed.

Knowledge(Local) DC 15:

Some of the names are fallen gladiators, but only the champions of previous years. Other plaques self-identify as honored sponsors, others patrons of the Gauntlet.

As the group violates the private conversation of the two maidens, it is unwitting co-conspirator to the gossip afoot. One of the two, the fair-haired one, defends her man, Auric, as the rightful victor of yesterday's culminating battle. The brunette crassly suggests that the only thrust of the argument she can relate to is pelvic, which causes the blonde to blush. The brunette, on the other hand, puts forth the large man among the Outcasts as something she'd like to mount in the middle of the arena, for all to see. This causes the blonde to blurt out false protestations of shock and disgust, allowing both maidens to fall into shared laughter. The conversation turns to other aspects, of their Lord's foul manner, of their shared hatred of the new harlot on his arm, and of their uncertainty for the next year's employment stability.

Off at a distance, other footsteps echo from the stairs to the west, as well as new female voices.

Bald male Half-Elf elder

Eidi attempts to go through unnoticed, following Mortimer. The half-elf signals to exit the room and avoid the maidens.

He then has to bite his lips in order to avoid breaking into laugher with the women.

Not believing his ears at first, Mortimer glances around at Eri, Ascaria, Eidi and Tynan. Turning beat red and sheepishly shrugging, he tries to avoid eye contact with Sol.

She's got to mean me... right?!

Forgetting that he's invisible for the moment, he nevertheless tries to get a glimpse of himself in the reflecting pool.
Perception: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (10) + 16 = 26 Plus two more (+18) for ... well he IS invisible.

Yah! I've got it, baby!! No need to check! ... Boy, I wish things were different right now. We really need to save these ladies... do away with Loris -- give them job security... C'mon! Stay focused!

Recovering from his previous embarrassment, he puffs his chest out and quietly moves into position near Solrisa.
Despite his attempt inner resolve, he finds himself glancing over his shoulder to try and get a better look at the ladies.

Ascaria keeps up with the group and largely ignores the women. They don't know what they want. the little man shrugs.

He sticks close to Eidi and worries they'll be discovered by innocents. What is this place?

The servant girls finish their meal, wrapping the food items up in butcher's papers and tucking them into apron pockets for later in the day. They take a look about the chamber, pleased with their cleaning work, before departing the chamber at the insistence of another female voice from deeper within the complex.

To the south, Solrisa identifies the way back to the Catafalque understructure's main circular hallway. The hallways to the north and west have their own branches, further in.

Mortimer quietly drifts his body along following Solrisa and Eidi, but his mind is clearly still on the maidens as he watches them depart.

Must find Auric after this...

Mortimer finally focuses on Solrisa once more, and wonders about her staring aspect.
What is that she's doing?

He waits patiently against the marble lined walls waiting to see which way Solrisa will pick next to go.

While he waits, he tries to fix his cowlick into his headband out of his eyes. Intermittently glancing down the hall in which the maidens disappeared, it becomes apparent to all that see him that he is pining to know where it is the maidens went.

Male, Gnome

Ascaria keeps up with the group, but when the room clears he suggests, whispering, "We're just in another area of the arena. We're not going to find Loris down here. I say we fall back before we're discovered and come at him another way."

"We're not going to find any scrolls either. Let's leave." he suggests.

"Shhh! Er," he looks around then relaxes a little when he sees no one but the party. He continues in a hushed tone, " -- I mean -- no. I'm pretty sure we're just north of Thrune Square.

He peels himself off of the marble lined wall to take glance down the corridor that swallowed the maidens.

Rats! Can't see a thing.

"That secret door in the Library didn't put itself there. Loris lives for the Gauntlet, it wouldn't surprise me if he lives around down here."

He glances down the corridor once again, straining to see.

"Did you hear those ladies? They said they did not like their "Lord" or the "new harlot" on his arm, and they are worried about their future employment. Who else could they have been referring to other than Loris and Kendra?" he asks, rhetorically.

"Let's just wait to see what Solrisa can glean from -- whatever that is she's doing."

Male Human Fighter (archer) / Sorcerer (stormborn) / Eldritch Knight 1/7/7

Eri keeps up with the group. He gets a little red faced listening to the bawdy talk from the maidens while at the same time being drawn by it. He tries to keep up.

Solrisa leads the foray into the grand hall's side hallways. The halls wind back and forth, and she catches sight of the maids attending the northern section of the complex, where they've begun to work on the walls, first with dusters, then with wet rags to remove smudging.

To the south, another set of hallways, with the sound of female voices holding conversation. The current temperature is quite comfortable, what for an underground, stony apartment.

As Solrisa veers south, she leads you all into a hallway that opens into a slightly larger room, attended by two different maids. Both are seated, both are knitting and talking pleasantly about their progress in fashioning blankets, socks, shirts, all for their charge. Another bout of voyeurism, courtesy of Eidi, and you manage to piece together a more detailed conversation.

One speaks to the other about taking a break, only to agitate the other, who insists that only after the Lady has returned with her child, would they be able to ask permission to put down their work, and eat. The hungry one moans about how long that might be, knowing that she and Loris have been gone since last night, without instructions as to when they were to return.

Solrisa returns to the main room, indicating that others should join her. When everyone is out of easy earshot of the maids, she will whisper-speak as she sheathes her sword and stows her shield.

"I think I'll go talk to them and see if they will lead me to Loris' quarters or to Loris. Why don't you all follow along?" Solrisa smiles, confident that nothing can possibly go wrong, nothing at all.

If no one complains...:

Solrisa will break out of the invisibility and politely stride up to the first servants she sees.

"Pardon me. I'm lost...I'm Solrisa, from the tournament," Solrisa points to her champion's belt in case they don't recognize her. "Can one of you lead me to Loris' room? We have Champion's things to discuss."

Mortimer considers.

Does she mean the first two girls? Is she -- serious? He looks curiously into Solrisa's eyes, trying to divine what she really has in mind. After what they said, why would she want to? I can see why they might want to show her though... She's not... testing me or something, is she?

He pulls on his forelock nervously. I wouldn't mind talking to them, but maybe not in here...

Then whisper-speaks/messages back, "'Them'? Who 'them'? Of those last two, one of them seemed very disciplined -- by the book -- more likely to call for guards. The first two...," he pauses, scratching the back of his head while having an unpleasant flashback to being trapped in a room with a mob of teen and pre-teen girls, "-- well, they seem a little young. They might be just too excitable."

"Maybe -- " he concludes, "maybe we can just find it ourselves down those corridors to the north and west. Eidi -- how many of these InvisoSphere things can you cast?"

Bald male Half-Elf elder

Eidi whispers back to Mortimer "Up to two more, 18 minutes each thanks to the rod"

The half-elf holds back maintaining the rest of the party under the invisibility "I am quite enjoying this hiding game. Do you think we will discover which of the maids prefers Eri? or where do they hide the chocolate cookies?"

I think as long as we remain quiet and unobtrusive we could check things out down here for 10 minutes or so."

He whorls around, looking at everyone, then continues his pep talk. "This is a great opportunity! What do you say -- we just take those stairs over to the northwest? I'm guessing part of it goes up to street level, and the other part is one level or so above us. That might be the most interesting level. We should try to find out as much about Loris and Kendra and their plans as possible while we are here!"

Taking a brief look into small storage rooms just off the large chamber, you establish that the main hallways lie to the north, and to the east past the servants.

Mortimer's words are proven mostly true, as the northern passage from the main chamber veers left/west, and sharply upwards. Map is not to scale. You emerge behind a metal gate, which swings open easily, and into a pristine crypt, where you are greeted by, of all things, natural light!

Through small, stained glass windows, the light of day bathes the quaint crypt. Opposite the metal gate is a pair of stone doors, which open smoothly into a public graveyard. The sounds of Egorian can be heard before opening the doors, and only grow louder once the doors are swung open. The graveyard is dense with stonework of many small, above-ground mausoleums, allowing coming and going without notice.

Mortimer correctly places the location of the graveyard as north of Thrune Square.

Artists and Outcasts are left to decide if they want to return below, and receive a proper escort from the Coenoby, or take advantage of the obscurity of Loris's backdoor passage, and remain above-ground.

"Perhaps we should ask for directions indeed Solrisa" the half-elf gives the idea a thought "Perhaps if we could leave a package for Loris, we would see if they took it to his place, or perhaps even to himself"

The elder check his own equipment finding only a bunch of scroll cases...

"I guess we are not ready, let's just hope we can find him once outside"

The Artists and Outcasts finds its way back down into the Coenoby, now a little wiser for its time exploring the last wing of the Catafalque understructure.

The Gold Cloaks acknowledge your return to the Coenoby with polite handwaves, though they return to their conversation soon enough. "When you're ready, we'll take you up."

When the time comes to ascend, your team is escorted up the several sets of stairs that allow you passage from Coenoby to Catafalque understructure, from understructure to Arena floor, then lastly from Arena to Thrune Square. You pass several pairs of Purple Cloaks on the main stairway leading upwards to the awaiting Egorian. The personal guard allows you to leave without themselves drawing undue attention with their presence by escorting you into the daylight.

It takes you the better part of an hour to leave Thrune Square itself. The small, awaiting crowds accost you in all manner of exchange. Merchants interested in getting your attention try to offer you services and goods in their various wares, only asking you to visit their shops for special ribbon-cutting ceremonies. Citizens of Egorian paw at you, hoping to touch one or more of you in your passing, with little regard for courtesy or personal space. The children are the most aggressive, hands extended for the drop of a coin or handing off of a personal item. They try to help themselves to a piece of cloth, tearing if necessary. Other awaiting adults sometimes shoo away the young, only to help themselves to a stronger attempt at wresting a handshake, or tugging on a scarf or slip, encouraging you to part with it. When the grand stones of Thrune Square settle back into the ground, you are given a small respite, while attentions are drawn away from you, to distance yourselves from the thicker parts of the crowd.

The later part of the morning greets you. The promise of a dinner with Ekaym, the Crooked House and its residents, Eligos and his estate, and his final conclusions of Worm study. Egorian awaits your next movements.

Bald male Half-Elf elder

Eidi patiently greets all the people that attempts to touch the group, he gives head strokes to the little children, and shakes hands with the adults. When requested he even performs some prestidigitation to represent the last moments of the fight with Auric and the worm beast.

"We decided to visit Ekaym, didn't we?" he asks the group as he tries to move with it in that direction "We would likely have to find a moment to report to Celeste as well"

Ascaria feels a weight fall from his shoulders as they find daylight once again and are free of the entire complex structure. ”Whew, that’s worse than any mine.” he mumbles.

But he’s not prepared for the crowds. He should have been, there were warnings after all, but he didn’t register them. He clutches his sling bag and tries to stay in the center of the group so he’s not overwhelmed by the children especially - many of whom still tower over his short form. He’s even happier when they break through the throng and find some solace down some alley or other…

”Right, Ekaym for dinner I think, but we’ve hours until then. We could report to Celeste now, get it out of the way. I know Sol, at least, is eager to face that scoundrel Loris just as soon as we can. Shall we?”

Ascaria takes a deep breath of the fresh air, and waits to see what the others think.

Solrisa smiles and waves to the crowds, a combination of blushing and happiness and excitement and glee in every wave and smile.

"Yes, let's go visit Ekaym," Solrisa says, sensing some sort of agreement and begins to head that direction. As soon as someone mentioned 'dinner', Sol was moving in that direction.

As she walks, she continues to take the time to shake hands and pose for sketches with all her fans. She extols the virtues of the team and working together as the reasons for their victory.
