Only thing i noticed was that you can study a target as an immediate if you sneak attack..
So far ive been doing alot of skimming and focusing on classes that i actually have atm.. So far i have found 1 badass thing though..
The 2 new magus arcana are gonna combo real nice for my 10th Kensai Magus.. He'll get the reposte and the precise strike from swashbuckler with it.. The latter will add +12 dam per attack as long as i have an arcane point.. Beast Mode..
GM Pox |
BTW im reopening a recruitment to replace Chester.. I would like to have a player who posts..
Hemket |
I've been warning the guy, but he has a mountain of excuses.
You could try the person playing Narissa in my game (forum name mdt), they are a nice and consistent poster.
I would focus on people you already know to be consistent posters.
GM Pox |
I understand RL man, but at the same time if ur that swamped you shouldnt be in a faster pace game.. Or attempt at one anyways..
Yea i would never pick someone with low overall post #s.. Ill ask MDT and see what pops up on the recruitment..
Hemket |
I will say I've learned my lesson trying people I know personally. In the future I will do private recruiting of forum people I know to have good regularity of posting and the ability to play smart.
Calla Voni |
(forum name mdt)
]I can vouch for him. He's spends more time here than any of us.
GM Pox |
I already sent him a message.. He deff has a leg up vs the competition.. Ill give it till tm and choose..
Calla Voni |
So, my reservoir changed from 3initial/10max to 5initial/8max, which in my opinion is much better. The wizard school power is decreased, so I have to keep only the Versatile Evocation power.
The human favored class bonus for Arcanists is pretty useless, so I guess I'll have to pick something else, skill or HP, or should I keep it the way it is Pox?
I'm out of time to check the rest, so please give me a little more time. ^_^
GM Pox |
I've got quite a bit a prep work to do for the next few things, so you have time.. Sry to be a meanie but we need to change the fav class bonus.. I told yall we would play it until the official rules came out.. 1 plus though, your arcane disk equivalent are the same price as pearls, not 150% more..
GM Pox |
Went ahead and selected MDT.. His post numbers are nice and he seems competent so.. Ill work him in at some point soon..
Logos The Mad |
Hiya all, checking in, and blushing at the compliments.
Obviously I'm not trying hard enough to kill some of the characters of people who are saying nice things about me. I'll work on that... pygmie tarrasque... In a closet... that'll work...
Logos The Mad |
BTW : GM
Hard to Kill doubles your the number of negative HP you can take.
Resurrected adds 4 to how much you can take.
There's two ways to process the two.
CON : 14
(14 * 2) + 4 = 32 (Death at -33)
(14 + 4) * 2 = 36 (Death at -37)
I put it in as the worst of the two (-32). If you think it should be the other way around, let me know.
At some time in the recent past you died, but you were brought back to life—whether because of magic, a blessing of the gods, a destiny you have to fulf ill, or perhaps it just wasn’t your time to die yet. Whatever the nature of your resurrection, your experience gave you a fascination with death, and you hope to f ind some insight into the nature of mortality by exploring the tombs of Wati’s famous necropolis.
You gain a +2 trait bonus on saving throws against death effects. In addition, you do not die until your hit points drop to a negative amount equal to or lower than your Constitution score + 4.
Whenever you're below 0 hit points, you automatically stabilize without needing to attempt a Constitution check. If you have an ability that allows you to act while below 0 hit points, you still lose hit points for taking actions, as specified by that ability. Bleed damage still causes you to lose hit points when below 0 hit points. In addition, you don't die until your total number of negative hit points is equal to or greater than double your Constitution score.
GM Pox |
Ill say the double overrides your normal and then u add the +4.. So -32.. Still not bad..
I should have my critters done by tm.. Ill be pushing forward at that time..
Logos, reading your backstory I like Raging Vitality for your bonus feat..
Calla Voni |
Just don't embarrass me bad kitty!
I believe we're going back to the 5/day now...
Scath Lynx |
Stupid two leg...
I did think about updating and submitting Scath, but awakened animals weren't listed in the valid race selection. :) Been trying to find a game for him, I enjoyed playing him, but none of the games have awakened animals as available races. :)
Calla Voni |
GM Wolf may take you into Kick in the Door, but I warn you the campaign is kinda messy...
Logos The Mad |
I'm in his Borderlands campaign already. Besides, Scath isn't really the right character for that game, just perusing the gameplay a few pages.
Logos The Mad |
I'm seriously considering dipping into something with Sneak Attack just to add another d6 to the claw damage when flanking. :)
Calla Voni |
A question for you then: Who are on planning to flank with? ^_^
Isn't Taldane supposed to be common (english in this case) mdt? Crazy kitty...
Logos The Mad |
Yes, but there's at least one person (Hadjii) in your party who doesn't have Taldane/Common on their character sheet, only Osirian. Which means I can't use 'english' for Taldane as that kind of defeats the purpose. So I used a close relative, French. :) Same root language. Plus I grew up around Arcadian, which is a closer relative of French, and I can at least tell if the translator is getting it mostly right. :)
As to flanking, I flanked with the other person attacking in melee. For now, there's no flanking as we are not in combat.
GM Pox |
Eventually he'll have a large wolf to flank with.. If you really wanted to go that route 1 level of vivisectionist would get you your +1d6 sneak plus a +4 str mutagen, going 2 levels would get you feral mutagen discovery for a bite attack as well..
Calla Voni |
Oh gods....
I just meant there is no currently strong melee character aside from you, so you will not get that sneak attack damage so often ^_^
But hopefully Hadjii will overcome the trauma and summon a new meatshield animal companion!
Logos The Mad |
Yes I was thinking Vivisectionist if I did a dip. :)
GM Pox |
Seeing as this is far from the standard book i would say no.. And im not really sure how to do that to boot..
Sorry for the delays.. Me and the wife are actively searching for a home to buy so been busy..
Hemket |
Actually it doesn't make any difference how the home game is run, you can still issue the sheets if you want (considering AP standard is 15 point buys, they are really not made for PFS). The sheets are just for promoting PFS.
But if you don't want to, your call.
GM Pox |
Do you just apply the credit to whatever pc you want? If so ill look into and get some sheets ready if yall want the credit..
Calla Voni |
If Pox does not do it I can also report it for us.
Logos The Mad |
So, with regards to sneak attack and/or trapfinding...
Snakebite Striker Brawler gets full BAB and Sneak attack at 1st level. But not trapfinding.
Slayer can get trapfinding at 2nd level, and sneak attack at 3rd level. Lot of dipping, but full BAB.
Rogue get's sneak attack and trapfinding at 1st level, loss of one BAB.
Vivisectionist get's sneak attack, but not trapfinding at 1st level, loss of one BAB (made up for by mutigen for str bonus).
Off hand, it's looking like a loss of BAB next level to cover the missing components (plus a loss of an HP for the hit die).
Logos The Mad |
Oh! I didn't realize you had them Hemket!
I was trying to cover the rogue stuff because I thought nobody had trapfinding.
I'll let you be the rogue. :) I want the sneak attack for a little extra damage on attacks. I might go Snakebite Striker Brawler then for a level to get another d6 when flanking. I completely missed you were a slayer for some reason. I thought everyone else was a caster for some reason.
GM Pox |
I personally think 2 levels of Vivisectionist would be cooler.. Gain that bite attack, mutagen.. Go beastmode for reels..
The only thing i dont like about the whole claw/claw/bite attacks is that you pretty much stuck with 3 attacks forever, unless your hasted of course..
Logos The Mad |
Helmet of Mammoth lords gives a gore attack.
Only issue I have with Vivisectionist would be the loss of BAB. Still, might go that way too. But it also adds a round of prep so first round of combat I would be buffing, rather than attacking/shielding. If I go snakebite and get a helmet, I can still get the 3 attacks. Also, can always go vivi down the road.
Hemket |
A couple of levels of Brawler is well worth consideration now. They really ramped that class up from the playtest when you consider all factors. The fact that they basically can get pounce and clustered shots for their melee attacks is huge.
Also the available archetypes are some seriously good stuff.
Logos The Mad |
For that matter, if it's just getting natural attacks, I could go synthesist summoner for a level dip and add gore and bite and tail. :)
EDIT : Yep, the brawler does have some nice stuff. Although it honestly does get it mostly front loaded. They made it a good dip class, but I don't think it holds up over it's entire 20 levels.
GM Pox |
Excpet that gunslinger and summoners are not allowed :)..
2 levels of viv and you loose 1 bab.. you gain the bite, which means with your fancy helmet youd have claw,claw,bite,gore.. The mutagen lasts 10mins/level, drink it when you go in to a spot you think is gonna get nasty.. There are some decent extracts at level 1 as well..
Hemket |
I don't know if I fully agree. While the late abilities are pretty much crap (Knockout and Awesome Blow both blow), the progression of their flurry and the increases in base damage are pretty impressive. I've been screwing around with some builds that have some pretty obnoxious DPR. I tend to have to dip other classes to optimize, but even a pure brawler is no longer to be sneezed at (the one from the playtest was a joke).
Just a 2 level dip into master of many styles can result in some very impressive damage (pick up dragon style, dragon ferocity and run them with pummeling stye, pummeling charge). Do this with mutagenic mauler archetype and you will be impressed.
That's really a seriously badass set up.
Logos The Mad |
Yeah, but it requires multiclassing. So I stick by my statement that a pure brawler starts falling off at higher levels.
I have a level 14 Sohei tengu monk that cranks out between 0 (no hits, unlikely) and 330 (5 hits and all crit maxed) DPR per round base (Usually averages about 200 DPR with a 1d8+25 2h PA Flurry with an urumi and improved crit). Added onto that is a unicorn cohort mount (she only adds about 35 DPR, but improves mobility massively). I don't think the Brawler could match that DPR at 14, not consistently. I could be wrong of course, haven't sat down and crunched the numbers fully.
Hemket |
If the requirement is no class dipping, I suspect I could do it even then, I'd just have to do some build choices I didn't like (stunning fist being needed and the wisdom for that is the biggest annoyance). I'll see what I can cook up and then DPR it (I have an excel DPR calc I use for such things).
Hemket |
There is great irony in being called out a nerd on a RPG forum dedicated to PbP gaming.
But I just realized that there's no way to have dragon style and pummeling style both active at once on a pure brawler, so it's rather moot really. I'll see what I can do anyway.
Calla Voni |
It's when I see you guys that I realize how normal I am ^_^
Seriously.
Hemket |
Hmm, pummeling style does make damage calculation rather tricky at that. Honestly that feat really needs some FAQ clarification (on a number of issues). But one thing that is fairly clear is that if one hit is a critical threat, the whole resolved damage gets the critical multiplier applied.
So on the test build, I have damage of:
+5 adamantine cestus +26/+26/+21/+21/+16 1d10+28+1d6 (acid) 17-20 x2
The confirmation roll is at +27 (since it always confirms at the highest bonus and I have critical focus).
So if any of those four dice come to a 17-20, then the total of damage is doubled.
The odds of no critical are: .8^5= ~1/3. Thus the threat range on the attack really translates into an 8-20 x2.
If I feed this into the calculator with the appropriate AC of a CR 16 critter (around 32) I get 202 DPR.
I'd have to see your actual Sohei build to see how it stacks up in DPR. The damage range really is quite meaningless since it doesn't account for target AC.
For comparison here, max damage is 410.
(note I had to go back and include mutagen since I had for got it, hence the edit)
Tychi |
Here's Tychi.
Note, he's not optimized for combat, just what can be done with a Sohei without optimization. Also note I didn't include the 'spend a ki for extra attack at highest to-hit'. The DPR should probably be based on a 20, 25, and 30 AC for comparison. If your optimized brawler is hitting about 200ish, and my non-optimized Sohei is getting about the same, I'm feeling ok about my statement on the Brawler not being all that good at higher levels in a straight build.
drbuzzard |
Interesting, I can cheese it up using unarmed attacks instead and pump the DPR a fair bit.

Logos The Mad |
Not bad, although the DPR is limited based on mutagen. So, it seems like there are some nasty archetypes for the brawler. Granted Sohei is also an archetype, so it's a fair comparison. I wonder if pummeling style wouldn't push the Sohei build over and above though. I'd have to check the requirements on it. As I said, not an optimized combat build, although he's the highest damage output in the group he's in.
