As the group heads out of town they get many strange looks. When they reach Makvor they notice him being eyed down by a group of boys about 8 years old. They continue staring, though with hostile looks, when the Half Orc is joined by another, then a well armed Elf, fire topped Gnome, and savvy Half Elf. When eyes meet suddenly the boys forgot something and depart.
Traveling down the road the sun comes out from behind a cloud and the day gets on with earnest. Traveling down the road the group sees where a large part of a wooded pole fence has been knocked down.
It’s not terribly odd, but a break in the fence is in interruption in the line that has been following your path since you left town and stands out.
Rounding the bend and coming down a slope into a thicket the group has only the hackles on the wolf raising before the bull makes itself known.
With a bellow, throwing of dust, and tossing its head the great black beast stares at you with wild eyes. Sharp ivory horns glint the sun, and invite death to its rivals. My Females, weakling-men, MINE!. Nearly 10 feet long, standing close to 5 feet at the shoulder the bull must weigh something close to a ton or more.
No initiative yet, but I am curious what do you do? We will wait until everyone has a chance to post there one action before moving on.

Wishing he hadn't used his second Speak with Animals for the day to chat with Spirit, the gnome assesses the situation and attempts to determine what exactly the bull is guarding.
Perception 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
The gnome then looks at his companion and signals to attempt to go around the bull quietly. If he receives nods from the group then he attempts to move quietly around the bull while keeping one hand near his great axe.
Stealth 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
Zatqualmie Fire-Top |
No, I thought this was the plan? To move calmly around it. I don't mean walk next to it, I meant make a wide semi-circle out from the road. Mrachni, I thought you were doing the same thing. What is your plan, just step back and wait?

I was just trying to be funny, I could care less if we fight this bull or not
I mean if we do, hey XP, if we don't then we may be able to avoid any unnecessary injuriesZatqualmie Fire-Top |
The gnome falls back and waits near Mrachni to see what happens. He places one hand on his top hat, seeming to hold it tightly so that it does not fall off. He places the other hand on the hilt of his great axe.

Approaching the bull sets it off. especially failing the Wild Empathy by more that 5 It charges...but its only a mock charge, ment to say I am STRONG, beware!,MY horns are sharp, my neck is stout MY line will pass on, STAY AWAY!! Intimidate 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (20) - 3 = 17
Nicely done, everyone is Demoralized by the charge, thus you are suffering from the condition Shaken. Makvor and Marchi you are both shaken for 1 round. Everyone else, including Spirit, is Shaken for two rounds.
A creature that big intent on running you down is not such a nice thing to look upon this early in the morning. With three foot long horns sharp as any spear.
Remember that there is a fence not more that ten feet from you. I will post a map in a few minutes.
GM Poisonblade |
Here be the map.
Refer to the campaign infromation for combat posting instructions.
Initiative Rolls just so there is a little more structure here. The Bull has not actually attacked.
Makvor 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
Spirit 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Mrachi 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13
Zat 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
Zord 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
Quayon 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11
Bull 1d20 ⇒ 13
Roll Mak 1d20 ⇒ 8 Zat 1d20 ⇒ 2
Order is
Zord
Makvor
Zat
Mrachi
Bull
Quay
Spirit
Zatqualmie Fire-Top |
Round 1, Hit Points 15/16, Shaken Condition 1/2
Delaying action and dropping initiative to 12 to see what the bull does.
The gnome, while appearing ready to react, pauses to see what the bull's next move is.
Makvor |
Round 1: Makvor - Hit Points 10/10, Shaken 1/1, Combat Expertise (-1 attack, +1 AC)
This assumes that Zord is actually moving toward the fence. If not, then I will retract it.
Makvor sends Spirit toward the opening in the fence, and moves toward it himself, then says something unintelligible and waves his arms. The plants around the bull attempt to trap it where it is, or at least slow it down..."RUN!"
5' step to L14, then cast Entangle, centered on D15, which will cover most of the grass, but not any players, allowing us all to run :-)
Quaylon |
Round 1: Quaylon - HP 8/8, Shaken 1/2
Quaylon, seeking some sort of cover from the animal, moves to N16.
Knowledge Nature (untrained with bardic knowledge, while shaken) 1d20 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (13) + 1 - 2 = 12
Mrachni |
Round 1: 11/11, Conditions: shaken (until init 13)
Mrachni picks up Zatqualmie and sets the gnome down behind him and to his left (N12). Move action to pick up an object, free action to drop it (set him down) in an adjacent square.
He then backs up next to the gnome, giving Makvor some space to move back as well. 5' step to N13.

Sorry, the map is suppose to convey that the fence continues on. The breaks in it you see are trees over hanging it, from the top down you wouldn't see the fence but for the tree, but in hide sight, had I the time I should have put lines to make this clear - Resolved. The actual break in the fence was about 200 yards towards town.
Getting over the fence is an acrobatics check to do it as swift action as apart of any movement or a climb check if you fail the acrobatics as standard movement.
Considering most of you are heading that way anyway I will take care of the rolls. Then we will see where we are at the end of Round 1 begining of Round 2
Bull Save 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16 - SAVES! Seeing the Elf run for the Fence he charges as best he can in the grabbing plants. [ooc]No charge just a move and attack.
Acrobatics DC 15 if failed Climb DC 5
Zord 1d20 + 5 - 2 ⇒ (5) + 5 - 2 = 8 Climb 1d20 - 1 - 2 ⇒ (9) - 1 - 2 = 6
Zat - gets a lift over from free, YAY! Give him a pat on da' head, ahh.
Mrachi 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (11) - 2 = 9 Climb 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (16) - 2 = 14
Quayon 1d20 + 6 - 2 ⇒ (6) + 6 - 2 = 10 Climb 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (1) - 2 = -1
The Bull slams its head into the fence sending splinters everywhere. Zord panting barely makes it over in time. Landing on the other side. The Bull blows snot everywhere slamming its horns into the fence again and again.
Mrachi lacks the angle to vault over the fence, so he climps over
Quayon is struggling on the Fence still shook up. But he makes over, just a little more slowly that he would have liked.
Makvor I moved your entangle over. At a 40 radius it would have caught everyone in it, had you put it there.
Round 2
Zatqualmie Fire-Top |
Round 1, Hit Points 15/16, Shaken Condition 1/2
The gnome picks up after the bull from his delayed action unless Mrachni moving me over the fence counted as my action, then that is fine. If not:
The gnome looks up at Mrachni and curses at him "WHY WOULD YOU LEAVE TWO OF OUR COMPANIONS TRAPPED WITH THE BULL ALONE! I WAS COVERING YOUR ESCAPES!"
The gnome hops back over the fence and draws his great axe while moving next to Makvor. He takes a defensive stance.
Acrobatics 1d20 + 6 - 2 ⇒ (14) + 6 - 2 = 18
Swift:Acrobatics Check
Move: Move 20' and draw great axe, ending his movement in K14
Standard: total defense (Boosting AC +4)
If my action for round 1 is exhausted then ignore this and I'll go in round 2 based on what Makvor and Spirit do.
Zordlon Boweave |
"Zatqualmie!"
*The courageous Zorldon jumps over the fence and fires an arrow towards the bull in hopes to distract him from the gnome and the other.*
Acrobatics:1d20 + 5 - 2 ⇒ (5) + 5 - 2 = 8
Zordlon fires at the bull only if he has the time to in his turn
Attack1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
Damage1d8 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Mrachni |
To be fair, Zat, none of us realized they'd be trapped until the GM clarified about the fence.
"Leave it!" shouts Mrachni.
Will wait for the outcome of Zord's arrow before posting my action, if that's okay.
GM Poisonblade |
Before his attack can land I need to know where he moved or if he did. His post wasn't finished. He stated a move but didn't roll all the dice needed to move as stated. As this is tricky spot I am not going to assume for him. Climbing over the fence seemed like what everyone was doing, so rolling for that was ok.
Zord, you must also post combat posts as I have requested. Take a look in the campaign info. I will allow that one, after you finish your stated move, but none after.
Zordlon Boweave |
even though this seems bad, this is how this character is, he would gladly die to save those of his companions. He charged in (stupidly) but heroically, in an attempt to save his friends. I will wait to do anything until other people post :P
Edit: This is interesting. It will be interesting to see how this turns out
Quaylon |
Round 2: Quaylon - HP 8/8, Shaken 2/2
Quaylon advises everyone "Why are we engaging the bull, it could have attacked us, most likely killed, but it did not. It did nothing until someone threatened it!"
"stupid, stupid, stupid, just go around the bull! Why do people insist on fighting! It is a damn farm animal!"
Edited: Realized I was not in the square I thought I was and have no way to reach him and cast a CLW this round.
Quaylon, acting at the bottom, is just ranting and preparing to move out, not planning to engage this beast unless necessary.
